Drivetrain AI is incredible. I can give it prompts and it will create dashboards, edit models, and change scenarios, and it handles everything like a pro. What I like most about Drivetrain is its flexibility and ability to bring financial and operational data together in one place. While Drivetrain offers a lot of flexibility, there is a learning curve, especially when building more complex reports and dashboards. Some features are not immediately intuitive, and achieving the desired results can require trial and error or assistance from the support team. I believe there is still room to improve the user experience and make report creation more straightforward, particularly for users who are less familiar with the platform. One of the biggest limitations for me is exporting reports to Excel. Currently, exported reports contain values rather than the underlying formulas. Having the ability to export reports with formulas intact would be a significant improvement, especially for Finance teams that need to perform further analysis, validate calculations, or modify reports outside the platform. Drivetrain lets a small finance team run like a much bigger one. Our actuals from QuickBooks, headcount from Rippling, and pipeline from Salesforce all come into one place. I can build our bookings and ARR forecast on top of that data instead of stitching spreadsheets together. The headcount planning is especially helpful. When someone joins or leaves, the change appears as a card I can accept, and the forecast updates without me rebuilding anything. It’s also made scenario planning much faster. When leadership asks “what if this deal slips a quarter” or “what if we pause hiring,” I can show the impact on burn and cash the same day. The support team has been responsive and easy to work with. Data syncs can quietly stop. Our QuickBooks, Rippling and Salesforce connections went 7 to 10 days without updating, and nothing alerted us, so I was forecasting off stale numbers until I noticed and synced them by hand. I’d like to see alerts when a sync fails. Some defaults also create cleanup work. Accepting a termination card adds a “backfill” row automatically unless you uncheck it. Drivetrain is intuitive, easy to use and very flexible. Support is amazing, change requests are handled efficiently and the team is ready to implement solutions for special requests. Connection of data sources is very simple. We wanted to move away from having endless Google sheets and having all our important business data in one place - Drivetrain helped us achieve that in an efficient and quick way. Some of the setup steps can only be handled on the backend, however the support team is always there in case something needs to be changed. Error messages are often generic, it's not always clear what needs to be done to get rid of an error. The level of support we’ve received from the Drivetrain team has been excellent. The tool itself is powerful, but that power comes with a lot of complexity in how it functions and operates, especially on the backend, which made it feel pretty daunting at first. That said, the onboarding and ongoing support have been a lifesaver. They’ve helped our team understand best practices, taken some of the more complicated requests off our hands, and let the experts handle the work. As a result, the day-to-day experience of using the platform has been a breeze.

Once our tools were fully integrated and we built out the initial reports (with some help from the native AI system), we’ve been able to track company performance across multiple systems in one place. It's a very powerful and complicated platform, which gives it a lot of capabilities, but also requires our team to lean on the ongoing support provided more than I would like to. For example, when we create a new field in our project management platform, or a new tracking category in our bookkeeping software, we can't simply start reporting on those fields, we have to request that support add them to our existing data sets to make them available for building metrics and reports. Ease of use, speed to bring new product features live, exceptional support on Slack and otherwise, competitive pricing, AI features that lets us interact with the numbers in a way that was not possible before and integrations with the financial tech stack that we already work with with little to no lift on our side. Some of the AI features took a long time to come to GA, while other platforms have made even creating reports and financial plans fully agentic, Drivetrain still retains the older interface with only a chat with data feature which is now outdated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We implemented Drivetrain to replace Power Plan and support budgeting, forecasting (scenario planning), 3 statement reporting (P&L, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet). Our workflow includes dashboards, Budget vs Actuals reports, GL Drill-downs, Forecasting with Commentary.

We find it very easy for non finance budget managers to find their numbers and understand their variances. We had to develop our own internal training to help users navigate these tasks. Users have commented that the interface is easy to navigate and intuitive.

We use a google sheets upload to integration daily. Our GL is FE NXT. Drivetrain is where end users get their actuals as we do not have unlimited users in the GL software.

Divetrain is blank slate budgeting and reporting software where everything is designed how you want it. Performance is excellent after the upgraded back-end database enhancements in 2026.

Pricing is very competitive and comparable to our previous software. So the ROI is excellent as the system is the next generation software which also includes the AI functionality. Our integration file wasn’t included in their list of modules. We currently run flat-file exports of our FE NXT GL Transactions and Paycom employee data, then drop them into Google Sheets to sync with Drivetrain.

Mapping is still somewhat manual as new data comes in and new projects and departments are created. Those items have to be mapped by hand into our hierarchies.

Another pain point was the time zone difference during implementation and support. Drivetrain is flexible, but we’re in EST, and if issues come up around 1 p.m., support isn’t always readily available.

We also had to go through several iterations of our dataset before we finalized our models. As a result, some legacy data ended up in their dimensions that we didn’t actually need.

AI is still learning and slower than Chat GPT.

Lastly, as they roll out updates it can impact some reports or functions you thought were final. One example is formatting and coloring of reports. I used color themes on the reports, but an update got rid of that and now allows you custom color the reports which I rather pick a theme then manually make the them for everything. Powerful & Flexible Forecasting: Drivetrain has very flexible forecasting models that allowed us to build our entire forecast from top line, expenses, balance sheet, cash, headcount all interconnecting with each other and our other systems (ERP, CRM, HRIS & ATS). The formula writing is intuitive and has a short learning curve when transitioning from excel and even shorter with the AI formula writing! DriveAI and Commands: The DriveAI additions have been a game changer for our team. Commands let us kick off analysis, build views, and answer ad hoc questions in seconds instead of manually building reports. Claude MCP Connector: The Claude MCP connector has unlocked an entirely new level of automation and analysis for us. We can connect Claude directly to our Drivetrain models, metrics and boards to run deep, multi-layered analysis, draft variance commentary for budget owners and build automated workflows that span Drivetrain and our other systems. Drivetrain is the foundation of our AI-driven FP&A function. Workflow Automation: Being able to automate recurring workflows directly in Drivetrain has taken repetitive, manual steps out of our processes. Things that took hours can now take us minutes to complete. Collaboration: As a finance team member I wanted a tool that serves all of my forecasting and reporting needs, but also allows for cross functional collaboration. Drivetrain's reports are perfect for this with features like tagging in comments, user level restriction, and customizable and visually appealing graphs, charts & tables. Implementation and Ongoing Support: The CS team has exceptional expertise and provides fantastic customer support. The implementation was smooth and every since has run smoothly. The team is always available and great to work with. Yes, the platform is powerful and flexible, but what has impressed me most about Drivetrain is their team. Since implementing the tool about a year and a half ago, I'm continuously impressed at the pace of product development, and how open and responsive they are to customer feedback. The Support team are also excellent and very accessible, even beyond implementation; they continue to help us find solutions for our reporting and planning needs, and do a good job keeping us in the loop of new product features so we can leverage most of the platform. Because the tool is so powerful, it comes with a steep learning curve. Learning to use Drivetrain as an end user who only updates existing models or uses the reporting features is simple enough. What I like most about Drivetrain is the way it blends advanced financial modeling with practical, connected planning. We can model program spend, headcount, and other operating costs in real detail, and then link those assumptions across our financial statements. Because everything is interconnected, it mirrors how our business actually runs and makes it easier to see how a change in one area impacts the broader financial picture.

The interface brings models, reports, and dashboards into one place, so it’s easy to move between deep, detailed analysis and higher-level outputs. The integrations also help connect our source data to planning and reporting workflows, which reduces manual handoffs and keeps things more consistent. I also find the ability to compare versions and scenarios across complex models especially valuable, since it gives us a reliable foundation for evaluating changes.

DriveAI and the AI connectors are real standouts. They’re robust, powerful capabilities that expand how we explore models and work with financial data. They help us dig into assumptions, pull the information we need, and build repeatable analysis and reporting workflows. From an ROI perspective, the value is in making our finance team more effective and helping us get more out of the models and data we already maintain.

The support team is exceptional as well. They’re consistently available, responsive, and willing to go the extra mile to work through complex questions and help us get more out of the platform. If I had to identify a challenge, it would be the initial learning investment that comes with Drivetrain’s breadth of capability—but that’s also a design choice I appreciate. Every business has its own nuances, and I value a platform that can accommodate different industries, operating models, and planning needs. A more rigid system might be simpler to set up, but could become limiting as requirements evolve.

For us, Drivetrain’s flexibility is worth that investment. Its continued development of DriveAI and robust AI connectors makes those capabilities increasingly accessible, helping us work through complexity while retaining the freedom to model our business thoughtfully.
