It is definitely one of the best tools for anyone who cares about data ownership and privacy. We spent many years hosting it ourselves on our own servers which gave us total control over the setup. Recently we switched to the cloud based version and it has been great because it takes away all the technical maintenance and server management. The tracking is very accurate and we love that there is no data sampling so we always see the real numbers. The UI is excellent and honestly much better and more intuitive than Google Analytics. We also found that the integration is very nice even with Angular since it supports Google Tag Manager. The performance is very solid and everything loads quickly. We only had to use the support team one time and the experience was fine because they were helpful and resolved our question. It is a very powerful alternative to other mainstream analytics and the transition from self hosted to cloud was actually very smooth. **What do you dislike about Matomo (Formerly Piwik)?** The biggest downside for us has been the pricing structure on the cloud version. It feels quite expensive compared to other options especially when you are a smaller business. Another major frustration is that on the specific package we are using you can only add 3 websites. This limit feels very restrictive and it would be much better if there was more flexibility to add a few more sites without having to jump to a much higher price tier. **What problems is Matomo (Formerly Piwik) solving and how is that benefiting you?** Matomo solves the problem of needing deep analytics while keeping full control of our data. Since we have been with them since the Piwik days we have a huge amount of historical data that is very valuable to our business. The benefit of switching to the cloud is that we no longer have to worry about security patches or server uptime ourselves. It gives us all the advanced features like heatmaps and goal tracking in a reliable environment. It has made our workflow much more efficient because we can just focus on the insights instead of the infrastructure. ### 2. Most ad blockers block the tracking code from matomo. We changed the code and name of matomo so that the ad blockers couldn't block our matomo script. Obviously its not good not to respect the privacy but from a business perspective, its good because sometracking is very critical to some businesses. Also some users unintentionally block matomo script. **What do you dislike about Matomo (Formerly Piwik)?** Graphical user interface shows different data than the database. It uses fingerprinting technology which identifies the user on the basis of a certain parameters including IP, Device etc. It means that if multiple users are visiting a website from the same company, PIWIK automatically identify them as one user and associate the actioms from different users to only one user. Users coming to your site and trusting you to keep the transaction between yourselves shouldn't be worried about a third party collecting more data on you. The fact that Matomo respects peoples' privacy and wilfully doesn't track someone if they don't want to be tracked, that..., that it what makes them the best. Any data that is collected about a person's behaviour on our website never leaves our server, is not sold to a 3rd party and becomes no one else's business. In the past, I've had to deal with a lot of products not working the way they were intended to work, breaking down in the middle of something, not providing accurate information.
