Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central fits nicely in the Microsoft ecosystem so it has a lot of integration and support with Outlook, Azure, partner apps, Excel, SQL Server tools, Power BI, and much more.

It's also highly-featured; it contains a vast set of functionality. We were seeking a solution for a busy 130-store specialised retail chain, with warehousing, inventory, etc. This is a little more complicated as the company has a franchise model so there is a diverse set of companies and inter-company transactions occurring too. Business Central has proven to be a robust and stable enterprise-grade product, vs. the previous financial systems we used which were much more aimed at small business.

I also like the role-based security and the potential to use SSO with your existing Active Directory, so this makes identity and access more secure and seamless.

You can also host it on-prem or have it hosted for you as a SaaS app by Microsoft. In our case we went on-prem, albeit on cloud-hosed VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It's an extremely cumbersome product with a clunky user interface.

It's not easy to navigate; the way to work through menus / field selectors / etc. is not always intuitive.

Finding underlying table numbers is quite difficult. The app allows you to view table structures and even make exports/imports - but finding the right table number from any given screen is not simple.

Further, the database structure is painful - if you work with database tables, for reporting, etc. purposes, you'll find every company you create (and we all know accountants love creating multiple companies) is in the one database, with its own set of tables. And then there are more tables for each extension. So, tables are named like this - [company$table$extensionGUID] - you can seriously have 10s of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of tables, in one database. It can be taxing for data engineering pipelines.

I don't know why the product does not simply use a 'company' field in one set of tables, vs. making new tables for every company; nevertheless, this is how it is so your queries/reports will need to UNION things together.

Thus, my complaints summed up in two: (a) it's a convoluted database for querying directly, and (b) the UI/UX is not awesome either. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What I like best about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is how easy it is to use once you're familiar with it. I use it every day to manage my work, and the interface is well organized, making it simple to navigate between different tasks. I don’t have any major complaints so far. One small improvement would be having a built-in AI assistant or guide specifically for Business Central that could answer questions and provide guidance based on the company’s setup, processes, and specific uses of the system. One area I find challenging is that some advanced customizations and reporting requirements can require additional configuration or technical support. It makes my day-to-day work much smoother because finance, sales, inventory, and reporting all connect automatically. That means I’m not wasting time jumping between systems or manually reconciling data. I like that Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central brings different business processes into one place, making it easier to manage finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, and customer information without switching between different systems. The depth of functionality is impressive – we cover general ledger, AP/AR, inventory, and reporting all from one platform without needing third-party add-ons for the basics. The integration with the rest of the Microsoft ecosystem (Outlook, Excel, Power BI) is genuinely useful in day-to-day work, especially being able to pull data straight into Excel and push edits back. Role-based dashboards help keep people focused on what's relevant to them, and the dimensional accounting setup gives us flexibility to slice financial data in ways that would be painful in smaller systems. The user interface still feels dated in places and navigation can be clunky when you're jumping between modules. Initial setup and configuration require real expertise – it's not something a small team can spin up without a partner or consultant. Performance can slow down on heavier reports, and customization often pushes you toward AL development rather than simple configuration. One of the newer things I really like about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is how much focus they’ve started putting on AI and automation.

Recently, features like AI-powered agents (for things like sales orders and payables) are really interesting. They can automate repetitive tasks like processing emails or matching invoices, which saves a lot of manual effort and reduces errors.
