SharePoint works well as a modern replacement for a classic file server. Our team can collaborate easily on files uploaded to SharePoint, and because it’s a cloud solution, we don’t need a VPN to access a traditional file server. It works from anywhere with an internet connection and is accessible from mobile devices as well.

It was straightforward for us to implement SharePoint document libraries since we already had Microsoft 365. I use SharePoint daily, and it’s easy to integrate additional workflows into SharePoint using Power Automate. SharePoint also includes built-in version control for documents, along with co-editing.

While SharePoint works well for my team, it isn’t a good drop-in replacement for a traditional file server. Before moving content into SharePoint, the data really needs to be cleaned up and reorganized so it’s structured appropriately. I am not a fan of sharepoint because it is not user friendly and requires the user to be logged into microsoft. It seems like a rigid user experience compared to something like google workspace which is very easy to collaborate on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
