What do you like best?

Their systems are written using the software they provide. Therefore no matter who you talk to at Appian - they all have had experience in the system. Everyone from the incident management to the higher-level representatives is always available when needed to work on or escalate issues. Education provided by the online learning center is free and quick digestible segments instead of large time-consuming training sessions. If I need to learn how to build a dynamic interface or develop an effective database. They do have a certification path if that is of interest to your team. They have a very nice community site that is also based on the product. Easy to navigate and search for helpful information. Incorporated into the community site is the app market that does boast numerous amount of plugins for Appian. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The quarterly update is a bit excessive for my team's regression testing abilities. This requires more effort as we are moving into more processes developed requiring more time for regression testing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

They are a great company to partner with. They do give a wealth of knowledge and they have a path to keep them successful in the BPM market. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Automation of manual processes that removes many emails and human errors. We initially converted our existing processes out of Oracle BPM and into Appian. We have expanded upon those applications and have created new applications to cover additional needs. While we did utilize a partner to help us begin our Appian journey - we are now doing all development in house. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The Appian suite allows for swift delivery in business value. What would take weeks or months to deliver in a legacy ERP system takes days in Appian. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Since Appian is a suite, it has many tools to solve your business process needs. That being said, if you consistently need features outside of Appian the platform and their marketplace does not have a Java plugin for you, you may want to consider going with a different suite or strategy for building business applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Use Appian if you want to standardize your business processes and gain insights into how your business performs in terms of cycle time, SLA fulfillment, and continuous improvement. Once you have standard processes, then you can use more advanced features such as RPA, IDP (Intelligent Document Processing) or even perform advanced analysis on your Appian data-points using some process mining. Appian is a great place to start your journey into optimizing your corporate business processes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Appian has improved SLA's, increased interdepartmental collaboration, standardized processes, and decreased process waste. Appian is a powerful tool and will give you tremendous control over your business processes when used to its full strength. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The ease of designing the business processes and then simply configuring them to make it work is the best thing I can say. Community is very rich and helpful. There's everything documented properly and it's very easy to pick Appian as a new developer. I started with the development last year and now, I play a vital role in my team. All thanks to Appian! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I've got just one word for this: NOTHING! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

JUST GO FOR IT! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As far as our project is concerned, we have automated the complete employee onboarding process (from filling forms to assigning project) by using Appian. Our client is so happy with the solution, they are extending the support to many services and recommending Appian to others too! I think, designing and programming ease is the few of many benefits that I can list out of Appian. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It is quick and easy to get an application live and in the hands of an end user. Can keep companies up and running remote during these tough times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

That there is a lack of styling customization. There is only so much you can do to customize the look of the apps. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For getting developers for the tool, send them to the Appian training camp. Hiring developers for this tool is very expensive if they already know the tool. But you will get every penny out of those developers because of the time saved creating the applications over custom development. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving issues with our company that involve a lot of paper pushing and processes that can be sped up electronically. We have been able to make our company able to work remotely in this rough time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It's low-code and easy to develop. It's one of the smart tool to build applications quickly and helps address business problems fast. It's also easy to check and deploy to higher environments using Compare and Deploy feature withing the tool. If we are missing anything the deployment package, the tool will let us know immediately. It's easy to revert changes using versions. It's easy to build UI"s with lot of features and drag and drop options.

The processes will run fast and we can create many instances at once. Processes have lot of plugin options to help developers to do lot of stuff. If we need some feature which is not available OOTB then we can develop our own plug-in and deploy to server and use them in real-time. It's easy to monitor processes as well and manager security.

Easy to build reports for business needs.

It's easy to learn for any new developer with little or no programming language. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Long running processes are not recommended.

Adds unwanted code lines when drag and drop is used.

Hard to debug with the generic errors Appian throws.

Deploying plug-in in cloud is difficult and time taking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We recently developed an app in Appian for health care customers to see the member info and all the cases and record the interaction activities and get the reports emailed to business people. Loading file and sending files/emails are all automated. In Java, they were expecting it to be completed in 6 months. I built it in 2 weeks using Appian and it's been used by customers from past 2 months without any defects. They liked it so much that they have asked to enhance the app with new features and continue using Appian. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The ease of use. The modelling flow chart to model process flow diagrammatically instead having to write line after line after line of code. I like how you can pretty much create any process type application for so many industries. I can see it being used in totally different industries from healthcare to education to inventory type systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The one downside is that I have to learn a little bit of coding. The SAIL language is not too bad to learn, but it's a little confusing for non programmers. I don't like some of the restrictions put on the software, like only being able to have 5 menus on a webpage. But with a little creativity, I'm sure people will find workarounds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For non-coders, business people, they can help developers model the business processes in the same project or app. This does lift the burden a little bit off the developers. It is also suitable for performing the agile methodology with dev-ops, which seems to be the industry standard in rolling out software applications. It also has a robotics and automation component to it but we didn't demo it. Considering the competitors out there like pega, appian is very similar and the ease of use is quite good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I wasn't solving a problem with Appian. I was sent to a week long developer fundamentals class taught by Gabriel Salas. In that class we solved a problem for a car rental system. this system included maintenance scheduling, email notification, task assignment, process flow modelling, decision tree making. There was also another app that we used as a demo for a class training resource site and a doctors office, that is populated with doctors, nurses, prescription medication and patients. Patients will get automated e-mail notifications for appointments and they have their own portal so that they can set up an appointment time, pick the doctor they want and fill in form for their own diagnosis. What do you like best?

Smoothness of developer experience.

Built-in tips, context sensitive help and

Ecosystem support are great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

- Proprietary, lack of migration tools to open source products and tools or other cots vendor tools.

- Serious coding skills unique to Appian are required to produce most real-world applications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

App Ian is great for business, time to produce working useful applications beats other tools, except perhaps Pega, but cost far less than Pega. Appian is committed to growth and encompassing DevOps and better UI tools, important fir protecting your investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I love the quarterly upgrades, that enable Appian to be cutting edge. Constant platform improvements continue to allow us to provide the best product to our business partners. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Reporting. Using the out of the box reporting functionality produces slow, inefficient reports. Developers must also become proficient in SQL to create views of data that the Appian reports can be produced from. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've built numerous custom applications on Appian, supporting multiple business unit. To name a few...Marketing, Compliance, Client Ops, Trade Ops and Creative Services. We have learned that we can manage the flow of work across departments, to allow them to focus on their core responsibilities, instead of getting caught up in process. We've also mitigated risks and ensured that necessary consent and acknowledgements are received. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like using the process modeler to map out the work flow; also like being able to test the UI forms when creating them. Also - although I had learned from the early days - how to create forms using just SAIL, the drag and drop components that have evolved over the years really do make it easy for new developers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Although the quarterly updates usually have some great enhancements, it's cumbersome to have to do regression testing every quarter - would probably prefer updates twice a year which would be more manageable for a cloud customer. Also - if one developer is working on a process, it's not easy to break up the process to allow multiple developers to work on it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Take time to assess the business's needs for reporting, workflows, approvals - a little extra time spent on this up front will save time later on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Improved accountability of tasks with several workflows; migrated legacy data and older workflows easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Drag-and-drop process modeler is good and easy to use. There is automated task managemnt, and the platform overall offers an actual no-code experience. You can also separate it out and provision separate access for regular business users and more technical IT staff with individual processes that integrate together. This enables teams with distinct talent pools to work together on the same platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Fairly expensive and not all the workflows are obviously intuitive. Thats not to take away from the the value though - you often get what you pay for and also they offer a free trial so no commit to buy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problem is that not all of the folks on the application side have deep technical experience. Having a code free experience lends value, but you will need folks with the requisite knowqledge to be able to build the objects and enables integrations, etc. etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It's easy-to-learn and easy-to-use for both developers and end users. The interface is slick and powerful. Both the Appian product and the implementation team have been an excellent fit for our organization. The product is robust enough to handle mission-critical membership tracking for our 500,000 members, while flexible enough to also provide internal leave tracking for several hundred employees. Appian issues quarterly product updates that we can schedule with their Cloud team at our convenience. The Cloud team team makes the upgrade process completely painless. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The Tempo interface and social features are a waste for our organization. Thankfully the big focus in recent releases has been on the much more user-friendly Sites interface. Excel and Word templates are not easy to use and need more official support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Partner with either Appian or a 3rd party on your initial project to learn the ropes, even if you plan on going in house later. Leverage the cloud offering if possible. Start with some quick-hit applications that show value before moving on to a large scale project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We utilize Appian in all parts of our organization. Our primary use case is for our mission-critical membership tracking system that also includes a major batch file processing component. We have leveraged their RPA capabilities to handle routine tasks and free up employee time for more valuable tasks. We have also used Intelligent Document Processing to organize a legacy document dumping ground into a powerful and searchable tool. We even built our internal employee portal and leave tracking solutions in Appian. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Executable BPMN development environment lets us directly translate business process. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The deployment model is single server. If an upgrade to capacity is needed, it requires a rebuild of the VM. You are often required to create strongly typed CDTs, which makes it difficult to use dynamic JSON payloads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Always try a free demo, and partner with your business stakeholders to document a business model and immediately run it as code. This is an eye opener and game changer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have standardized orchestration for our core APIs, giving us a single place to track business transactions. We do not use it for creating user interfaces. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
