I like that Paylocity is a full suite and is constantly updating and requesting product feedback. We've seen many enhancements over the past few years, which shows that they take feedback seriously. Additionally, I appreciate the ability to house international employees in one system, which is a significant improvement over our previous system where we needed separate logins for different regions. Paylocity does have limitations in functionality, specifically around platform customization. Many features are standard and unable to be customized, specifically with reporting, automatic messaging, and workflows. The system doesn't allow you to manipulate and combine some fields in reporting, so you have to run multiple reports, and then pull them together through Excel. Having the ability to pull any field into a single report directly from the system would help with efficiency, and for those who don't have strong skills in Excel. I like that Paylocity integrates with Blue Marble (their international payroll arm). I also appreciate that I can run as many payrolls as needed, which is especially helpful when employees resign at the last minute in California and Hawaii (both immediate pay states). I like the number of modules you can choose from, and I’ve been particularly happy with Time and Labor. The pricing is very reasonable for what we get, and we haven’t had issues with the system being down. Onboarding varies by country, but overall it has been very good. I also have regular calls with our team at Paylocity to work out any kinks as they come up. Finally, I like the reporting the system provides on turnover and employee information. It’s not always clear what’s required for international staff in Paylocity, or what will trigger sync issues—France, in particular, has been challenging. Time-off accruals also aren’t real time. We had real-time accruals with our previous HRIS system, so I know it can be done, and I really wish Paylocity offered real-time accruals as well. This gap definitely creates issues for our finance team.

I also don’t like that when someone moves to a new location (we’re a global business with global mobility), we have to fully terminate them in the system and then rehire them as new. That process disrupts the employee ID number we use in Concur. As a result, someone in Paylocity has to delete all of the “pay history” from closed payrolls just to change a location in the system, which is definitely frustrating.

What I like best about Paylocity is its intuitive design and flexibility across HR, payroll, and data reporting functions. The system allows seamless integration between timekeeping, benefits, and payroll—reducing manual entry and increasing accuracy. From an HRIS and payroll management standpoint, Paylocity provides the perfect balance between technical control and user accessibility, allowing both administrators and employees to interact with data efficiently. What I like least about Paylocity is that certain modules, while powerful, still operate in silos and require manual workarounds to achieve full integration. For example, some data feeds between HR, benefits, and payroll may need additional configuration or support tickets to ensure consistency.

Reporting flexibility is excellent, but creating advanced or cross-functional reports often requires extra formatting or export steps to achieve the desired output. Additionally, workflow routing and file-feed setup could benefit from more built-in automation tools to reduce dependency on support or custom development.

While the employee mobile experience is great, the administrative backend can feel a bit fragmented. As of recent, we've had a few issues with the report writer. We believe it's not the most user friendly or easiest to use. If there were more training on how to build reports, that would be great. Support time has been slower as of recent, but averaged out over the last few years that I've personally used the system, it's been good overall. The AI piece has a long ways to go to really be considered helpful. Right now it just gives you articles from Paylocity's PEAK area to assist with troubleshooting, but doesn't answer questions fully and it can't pull real-time data from the system (like an employee's pay, how many hours did employee work within a time frame, etc.). The biggest benefit of Paylocity is having several HR functions in one system. Employees can access payroll information, benefits, time off, documents, and other employment information without having to go through HR for everything. My biggest frustration with Paylocity has been the overall user experience and reliability. Some processes are not as intuitive as I would expect, and there have been glitches that make relatively simple tasks more difficult or time-consuming. The paycheck calculator can be challenging to use at times, especially since it's not always clear which boxes need to be checked for it to function properly. I also wish there were an option to enter my spouse's income, as this would help provide a more accurate picture of our tax situation when it comes to payroll. Paylocity continually brings new features to their product based on customer suggestions. The support options are top notch. I especially like the help topics (articles) that show me how to complete what I need to accomplish. I often work at odd hours and appreciate always having a step-by-step option. It's an odd dislike, but it is hard to keep up with all of the new features Paylocity offers. They continually make upgrades and improvements (which is great), but it's hard to stay up to date on every change due to time constraints. Paylocity announces the new features in a newsletter, so it's really on me to keep up with the changes.

I really like the recruiting and electronic onboarding process Paylocity offers, along with easy payroll processing. Posting jobs and sponsoring them on Indeed is super simple, and I find tracking applicants and then transitioning to onboarding and hiring seamless. I also appreciate how the electronic onboarding allows candidates to upload their documents, saving me time. The new update to the payroll system, like the pay grid change, has been fantastic. I no longer have to scroll through pages and can now view all employees at once, streamlining adding bonuses and commissions. I find it a bit cumbersome that I have to manually manage performances and add employees to them rather than having an automated process.
