## Betterment at Work Reviews
  ### 1. Helpful expert support and automated investing, but limited to the UK

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angella N. | Full stack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers free consultations with financial experts and has friendly, responsive customer support. It also gives me helpful insight into savings and crypto investing, which supports my long-term planning. On top of that, the platform automates investing, making it a reliable and efficient tool for me to use.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The only downside is that it isn’t available internationally, as it’s currently limited to users in the USA

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the name suggests, Betterment at Work helps individuals set aside money for retirement. Its automated investing features support long-term saving by steadily building funds and allowing users to earn returns over time. The platform also integrates with payroll systems, making contributions and overall fund management more convenient and efficient.

It also supports cryptocurrency investments, giving users another option for diversifying their portfolios. Because automation handles much of the process, investing feels more streamlined, which can help users grow their savings and manage their earnings more effectively over time.

  ### 2. The 401(k) program from Betterment at Work is very simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tamara M. | Chief Marketing Officer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Before using Betterment at Work, our company did not offer a 401(k) plan which made it difficult to recruit and retain employees looking for employer sponsored retirement plans. Establishing a retirement plan for a small group of employees appeared to be overly complicated due to the compliance requirements and paperwork; however, using Betterment at Work’s system has allowed us to establish a 401(k) plan and allow our employees to begin saving for retirement rather than only allowing them to contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), which has higher contribution limits.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The fees appear to be too expensive for what is offered to a small business and there are too many things that you need to help with or be told what to do. The mobile application for the website is very poor. Also this may be petty, however, I think the selection of investments available through Betterment at Work is limited.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I really like how payroll integration helps by automatically sending contributions based on payroll so I don’t have to take the time to manually input each time and also I like how employees can go into their account and adjust their contribution amount as many times as they want without bothering me.

  ### 3. User-Friendly App for Quick, Reliable Views of All Your Finances - Great for Start-Ups

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lauren F. | Business Strategy Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

User-friendly app, easy place to see financial information in one place. Only downside is it took some effort to integrate with outside providers like Vanguard, Janus Henderson, etc. But the app always worked well and was available when I needed it for quick views of finances.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

It took a while to integrate information from different financial providers, but that's pretty typical of any app that amalgamates information across sources. No slower than peer apps, just an annoying process no matter what.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used it for management of retirement accounts, and that was beneficial because I could see all of this information in one place and the app had a nice, clean UI. We did eventually switch off as our company scaled.

  ### 4. Smarter employee retirement benefits management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucinde B. | Benefits administrator, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The thing that I like about Betterment at Work is that it is transparent about charges and investment portfolio. The platform is transparent on costs, and this is often inquired of by the employees and this creates trust. The process of implementation was organized and it assisted us in the roll out without any confusion. I also like the fact that the staff members log in frequently to check on their progress and this indicates that they feel more engaged in their financial planning.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One of the weaknesses of Betterment at Work is a limited choice of investment courses, in favor of more advanced investors. There are some seasoned staff members of our organization who would want to have expanded control of their portfolios. Although the platform addresses general needs, it might be inadequate to meet the needs of very specific funds. This has resulted in additional meetings to clarify constraints and set and regulate expectations regarding the flexibility of the retirement plans.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Betterment at Work, we have tackled the problem of delayed retirement contributions by the employees. In the past, the confusion on investment options was a setback in making decisions. The new platform now directs the new hires to the appropriate allocations at the beginning. Due to the frequent use that we often make it in the onboarding process, the participation has increased to a large extent. This change will help us to achieve financial stability amongst the staff and also enhance our benefits package in general.

  ### 5. I’ve noticed that it really helps more employees get involved

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Flavia C. | Employee Benefits Specialist, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

My favorite feature of Betterment at Work is that it made managing the retirement of employees easier. Once it was implemented, we connected it to payroll and contributions became smooth. I apply it to various occasions as often as onboarding and benefits season, and this makes our HR processes effective. The features which provide customized investment advice and tracking of progress will provide enough features so that the employees can have a chance to plan their retirement without overloading our staff with questions and handwork.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work has weaknesses. Although it does a good job in contributions and tracking of goals, it is not very flexible in extracting detailed reporting information. The size of features is good on the whole, although the creation of detailed reports can involve the exportation of data and restructuring. Since we also use frequent reporting when we are reviewing benefits, this introduces additional work to the HR department as well as slows the decision making process when making changes.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The largest issue Betterment at Work solves to us is having the employees themselves engaged in the retirement plans. In the past, there was need to have manual tracking and reminders. Employees become more regular with saving, having such features as automatic contributions, goal guidance and portfolio rebalancing. Since it is a frequently used tool in our case, when we go through benefits checks, the HR is aware, and employees feel valued. This has enhanced trust on retirement plans and minimized paperwork.

  ### 6. Convenient Anywhere Access with Seamless Account Changes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleia G. | Scheduling Associate, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I liked the convenience of being able to access Betterment from anywhere, including my phone. Requesting withdrawals and making changes to my account were also seamless processes each time.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't like that withdrawals require approval for money that belongs to me. I also wish it were a more instant process to receive my money into my linked bank account.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's helping me to keep track of my 401k, and I can also save for additional goals I set for myself.

  ### 7. Smooth management of employees

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuela Z. | HR Benefits, Food & Beverages, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I have now understood the value of Betterment at Work in relieving the burden of focusing on the benefits in terms of financial management through the automatic organization of the contributions. The payroll integration means that I am no longer concerned about the mismatches, and my usage rate remains high since it is integrated into my daily routine. The features that help the employees to navigate their choices make the difference between a bunch of questions that I would have received all the time.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Certain layout and control features are too rigid, and it made creating our benefits flow slightly more difficult when implementing it. The gaps are even more pronounced with our frequency of heavy usage. There is also responsiveness to customer support but a couple of spots still feel unsophisticated to what we desire as a more customized experience.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The greatest advantage to us is that Betterment at Work simplifies the cluttered processes involved in assisting employees to join savings programs. With the payroll integration, I no longer have to take time to correct the contributions. When I use it regularly, it has simplified the benefits management process and the ease of use has enabled my team to be confident whenever orienting new staff.

  ### 8. It helps our staff stay on track with goals and company HR

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas G. | Employee Benefits Specialist, Utilities, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

What is of most value to me is the fact that Betterment at Work simplifies and automates retirement management. Connecting it with our payroll and HR systems will make the contribution process smooth, and the accounts will be current. It is used on a daily basis to verify enrollments and balances. Its goal-tracking functionalities, automated adjustments of its portfolios and personalized recommendations allow the employees to plan confidently with minimal workload on the HR side.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

What I do not like is that reporting might be more elaborate to give in-depth information about the employee involvement and performance. Payroll and HR integration was not problematic, though there are issues with contribution updates that appear occasionally. The small errors may lead to additional work as they are used every day. Moreover, the investment recommendations can be too general, and those employees, who require highly specific advice, can go to other places.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The greatest advantage of Betterment at Work is that it removes confusion and manual control of retirement programs. Employees will not need to be continuously mentored as automated updates and customized suggestions help them to concentrate on their objectives. The fact that it is used daily makes it accurate and increases investing confidence. The HR department can use the saved time to correct mistakes or monitor enrollments, and the employees will have easy and clear instructions on how to plan their retirement.

  ### 9. Seamless Payroll Integration and Holistic Financial Wellness

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rae S. | HR Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work has surpassed my expectations. I was searching for a platform that provided fair value to both the company and its employees, and this solution delivers on that. I especially value how smoothly it integrates with our payroll system, making administrative management for HR both minimal and highly efficient. Our employees also really like the user interface, which makes it easy to set personalized financial goals. Its comprehensive approach extends beyond the standard 401(k) plan, offering a more complete sense of financial well-being.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Although the digital support is efficient, reaching a human advisor by phone can be unreliable during times of high demand. In particularly busy periods, the wait time may even surpass the length of the participant session, which negatively affects the overall participant experience.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work is a cutting-edge financial wellness platform that has become essential for RR.S.S. The cost-benefit ratio is outstanding, making it a valuable investment. It helps reduce fiduciary complexity while providing an excellent user experience that encourages engagement. This platform is a strong asset for both retaining and attracting talent, and it has greatly enhanced how our benefits package is perceived.

  ### 10. Clear, Uncluttered Retirement Tracking with Instant Contribution Changes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

401-k and management of retirement in general can be confusing, what I like most about Betterment is the easy understanding of my online account. It is not cluttered and full of overwhelming information. It is clear, easy to maneuver, and numbers are reported in a way that is easy to understand. In addition, I really like that it is easy to log in and change my contribution amount at anytime and that change is instant! Lastly, the fact it is integrated with my payroll system makes life easy and money goes where it needs to each payroll.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I could use more support on meeting compliance requests. I suppose I could reach out to the support center more frequently to help my understanding.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at work saves me time, I set up my account and customize my retirement plan and everything is taken care of each time payroll processes. Set it and forget it!

  ### 11. Reliable platform for structured retirement benefits

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Violette S. | Employee experience manager, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work is unique in that the responsibility of retirement planning has been positively changed. I use it frequently, particularly when I am training new employees. The payroll integration is very reliable and it was implemented with ease than expected. The features are what I like most since they guide the employees without my involvement. Such transformation in itself has minimized interruptions and made my workday more committed and foreseeable.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work does not suit very customized benefits structure, as far as business is concerned. The said restriction has introduced additional processes in my workflow particularly when making payroll amendments. The platform is used on a regular basis, and therefore minor inefficiencies are noticeable. There are certain features that seem to be reserved by pricing levels and this restricts the flexibility of small teams. It has not prevented us, but has brought about workarounds.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work is a way to deal with the issue of administering retirement benefits without the need to strain the administrative type. It is useful to my business in that it saves time and mistakes are minimized. Employees are more involved, and hence I have fewer follow ups. I make regular use of it, and the payroll integration helps to maintain everything on track. The process of onboarding and the continued benefits is better, and it makes daily HR work less stressful and less demanding.

  ### 12. Retirement planning made finally simple

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Natalia B. | HR Benefits Manager, Health, Wellness and Fitness, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The feature of Betterment at Work that I like the most is the ease with which it manages retirement accounts. It integrates well with our payroll system, and this ensures that the contributions are correct. I often scrutinize plan performance and communicate with the employees. The learning materials and investment options in the platform have saved me much time and have simplified the process of assisting colleagues in the plans to enable them plan their futures without getting lost.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

A disadvantage is that there are certain reporting capabilities that are restricted. The platform has also forced me to spend additional time pulling data to make management reports since not all the breakdowns required by me are always available on the platform. It causes some processes to slow down and sometimes minor frustration with reconcilment of the payroll contribution and plan activity. Nevertheless it is still manageable, except that they should report better.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work is useful in assisting the employee in retirement planning. It simplifies the process of tracking the participation, demonstrating the performance of plans, and supplying learning materials. This makes everyone engaged and up to date, eliminates unnecessary questions and I am able to direct my time to other HR programs rather than being on top of retirement matters.

  ### 13. Great company to deal with our 401(K)

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George S. | Head of Finance, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 10, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We’ve been really pleased with our experience using Betterment as our 401(k) provider. The platform integrates seamlessly with our payroll provider, which makes contributions and employee management effortless. The online portal is intuitive and easy to navigate, for both administrators and employees, which saves us time and reduces errors.

Betterment’s customer support has been responsive and helpful whenever we’ve had questions, and the overall setup process was straightforward. The platform provides clear visibility into plan performance and employee participation, and the educational tools available to staff are a great added value.

Overall, we’ve found Betterment to be a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly 401(k) solution that fits perfectly with our company’s needs.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing negative to say about Betterment

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work makes managing our 401(k) so much easier. It syncs perfectly with our payroll, so contributions happen automatically without any extra admin. The portal is simple for employees to use, and it’s helped more of our team get involved in saving for retirement. It’s been a big time-saver and really smooth to manage overall.

  ### 14. Betterment at Work smoothed our benefit reporting, freeing HR for higher impact initiatives

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rita H. | Manager, employee financial benefits, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The flexibility of the employees to increase or decrease their percentages of contributions whenever they wish to, without the need to go through human resource. This Air Flex has a great deal to do with it. Such an interactive outlook as a simple what-if scenario builder helps staff members visualise the effects of moderate changes in contributions on their long term scenario, which is again more interactive than a standard projected outlook. The quarterly insights reports that we provide to employees have proven to be surprisingly useful in drawing attention to forgotten benefits specifically related to tax, something that most employees do seem to find useful.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

In the administrative dashboard, there is poor filtering with which to segment the engagement data according to department and tenure of the employee. It becomes difficult to recognise particular support requirements. We would also like the ability to stream specific financial wellness messages to specific groups of employees directly in the platform. Impersonal messages come out poorly The lack of an HR internal messaging system so that HR can influence the employee to do something like review annual statements involves introducing email campaigns.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was so overwhelming to think that one day they had to save long term, many of our junior staff had student loans and they were not able to picture a long term savings scenario. They did not have a clear and easy to digest and understand starting point which is more than just retirement. Betterment at Work made saving procedural, categorizing payment into smaller more controllable units such as humanitarian funds or travel in the future. This brought the term wealth building to a more practical, less-scary place. Within a short period of time since going live, we have observed that there is a marked increase in the engagement captured of these different savings objectives, indicative of a mind-set change of moving away to a state of financial paralysis to proactive planning amongst our younger workforce.

  ### 15. Ease and Quick Support, Perfect for Financial Planning

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alejandra R.

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like the ease of the process when opening accounts at Betterment at Work, which makes it simple for different clients to set up their goal-oriented accounts. I also appreciate the quick and efficient support from the Betterment team, as responses usually arrive within 24 hours and are detailed and personalized. Additionally, I find the initial setup quite intuitive, thanks to the videos on their site and the help from the support team via email.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Perhaps it is not a tool for people from countries other than the United States, and it also does not yet have the possibility to open accounts for minors like custodial IRAs.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work for our clients to open goal-oriented accounts. Solve financial planning needs by creating savings, emergency funds, and financial habits. I like its ease in account opening and the fast and detailed email support in less than 24 hours.

  ### 16. Very happy with Betterment at Work after a number of years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Molly S. | Head of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We've used Betterment at Work for a number of years to manage our team 401k plans. Overall, I've been very satisfied with the service and resources they offer. As our employer admin, I really appreciate how clearly it maps out the specific actions I need to take to stay in compliance, and keep my team up to speed. The support team is also very helpful when I have questions or need help with something, and the online interface is very user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

When we initially transitioned our 401k platforms to Betterment, it was a somewhat difficult and convoluted process, however I can't be completely sure if this was more due to the complexities of our previous platform. Since shifting over, I've been very happy with the Betterment offering.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work helps streamline our 401k offering and reduce the administrative work required to administer the plan to our employees. There is always some amount of work required to successfully offer and manage a 401k plan for a company, but I think Betterment does a great job of handling the complexities and making it as simple as possible for the Employer.

  ### 17. Working great for my private medical practice

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arthur G. | Assistant Professor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I am the President/owner of a medical practice with 5 physicians. Last year revenue was 3.5M. Betterment is top in transparent pricing, and surprisingly outstanding and responsive customer support. We were a complicated spin off of a larger group that had a 401k with a vesting schedule through Vanguard/Ascensus and really poor personnel records from the group we were leaving down to wrong employment dates. It was as complicated as it could get and Betterment customer support always responded within a day, worked with the Vanguard 401k, and the old company to get everything the way it should be. I have worked directly with Fidelity, Vanguard, and independent financial groups, and Betterment was at least as responsive and expert as any of them. Their QACA plan is ideal for a medical practice which by its nature has high turnover, and vesting is fixed at 2 years.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing I can think of. The platform is outstanding and easy to navigate for my employees. Their boiler plate emails are well done and easy to understand. If you thought you needed someone to call in the phone, it might not be for you as that's not gonna happen, but calls can be scheduled.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Again, great to have access to a QACA plan, and being able to carve out a no-match for my HCEs (doctors) was nice, and even having a say in their investment offerings (QQQM for example was important for me).

  ### 18. Betterment has been a great solution for our small company!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jenica F. | Director of People, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has been a great solution for our small company! When we were ready to implement a 401 (k) plan, we found Betterment because it was integrated with our HRIS (TriNet); however, we were pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to implement and utilize. Our company has about 55 employees, and I'm the only HR professional, so I needed the plan to be as simple as possible, which is what we've found with Betterment. Not only was the plan easy to set up, for both the employees and me, as the administrator, but it also comes with added benefits, such as the ability to use Betterment for 529 college savings plans, access to financial advisors, and the ability for the company to match qualifying student loan payments, and deposit them into their 401 (k) plans. I have administered several different 401(k) plans throughout my career, and Betterment has been the easiest plan to oversee.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

We have only had the plan for about 9 months, but at this point, nothing.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is our 401(k) provider for our employees.

  ### 19. Works well for our organization

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary O. | Chief Administrative Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The admin interface works well and the user side is also straightforward. The onboarding was relatively smooth. Our staff is happy with the investment options, and it is easy to make changes. It integrates well with our payroll platform (Gusto) which makes the backend easy. When there are tasks and compliance work to be done, they make it clear and easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I do not like that you can't pick up the phone and talk to a person when you have a question or issue. Their online support is fine, but sometimes I want a person. There is some user features that we had with our old system, like seeing how much your paycheck would change if you altered your contribution, that Betterment does not offer.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We changed payroll platforms and needed a new 401k provider. It helped us set up a new system to get former employers out of our plan.

  ### 20. Seamless User Experience with Room for Improvement in Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daria F. | Manager, HR, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work offers a user experience that is both intuitive and visually appealing. The platform allows users to navigate with ease, enabling them to access resources and complete tasks. Most employees find it straightforward to manage their retirement plans, which significantly enhances their overall experience with our 401(k) offerings.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The primary area for improvement is the integration process with our HRIS system. It could have been more streamlined, as the current setup is somewhat complex. Additionally, better communication during system updates or changes would be beneficial. Keeping us informed throughout these transitions would help us manage expectations and ensure that all integration aspects run smoothly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work effectively addresses challenges related to 401(k) management. The user-friendly access to financial resources and educational tools empowers our employees to make informed decisions about their retirement plans. This increased understanding and accessibility enhance the value of our benefits package, contributing to higher employee satisfaction and engagement.

  ### 21. Excellent 401K

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah O. | Global Shared Services Director, People Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The ease of using Betterment started during implementation, their attention to detail and incredible onboarding team made the process easy and efficient. Their compliance team identified options to address essential items that were missing from our previous vendors advisory support, and helped us quickly (and inexpensively) correct our plan to maximize employee experience and overall filing requirements. The experience over the last few years has been excellent, including easy to use API connections, corrections on payroll updates (current and historic), and the overall employee facing support.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Can not think of anything that I dont like.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment puts the 401k management into the hands of each employee, with the least amount of "clean up corrections". They make the employee elections and changes super easy, allowing the employee to choose far greater options that any other provider. And their API configurations are super functional. Previous APIs at other 401k vendors were clunky and produced regular errors. Betterment's is super functional. And if an error pops up there is immediate access to support to help clear it.

  ### 22. Seamless 401k Experience with Outstanding Support

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has made our company’s retirement plan administration incredibly simple and stress-free. Their website is intuitive and straightforward, which makes enrollments, changes and distribution requests easy for employees to handle without confusion.

Their administrative support team is excellent—every question we’ve had has been answered quickly, typically within 24 hours or less. They have also helped with non-discrimination testing and Form 5500 to make life easy from an administrative stand point. Also, Betterment provides great webinars and resources to assist with administering 401k.

Betterment also offers a wide variety of plan options, allowing us to tailor the retirement benefits to meet the diverse needs of our team. From start to finish, the entire process—from setup to ongoing management—has been smooth and efficient.

I highly recommend Betterment to any company looking for a hassle-free 401k solution.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment is an excellent choice for small to medium-sized employers, especially startups or companies in their first five years. However, as organizations grow and their workforce becomes more complex, larger employers may find they eventually need a provider with more extensive plan customization or enterprise-level features. This isn’t a flaw unique to Betterment—it’s more about matching the provider to the company’s stage of growth.

That said, it’s a best practice and a fiduciary responsibility to review retirement plan providers regularly. As our company scales, we plan to evaluate Betterment’s capabilities alongside other options to ensure we’re always offering the most suitable plan for our team.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment simplifies the entire process—administration, enrollment, and ongoing management—into a single, easy-to-use platform.

For HR and finance, their automation reduces manual tasks like tracking contributions, handling distribution requests, and assisting in ensuring compliance.

For employees, the automatic enrollment and increase each year eliminates barriers to participation. Team members can enroll quickly, make changes on their own, and access helpful resources to guide their retirement planning.

Overall, Betterment at Work removes complexity, helps us stay compliant, and empowers employees to take ownership of their financial future—all of which makes offering a retirement plan far less stressful.

  ### 23. Simple, Modern, and Reliable Financial Partner

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has been an excellent platform for managing both retirement and non-retirement investments. The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, making it simple to set goals, track progress, and adjust allocations as needed. I especially appreciate how transparent the platform is around fees, performance, and rebalancing—there are no hidden surprises.

Their automated investing approach takes the guesswork out of portfolio management while still giving me the flexibility to customize when I want to. I also find the cash management options and retirement planning tools practical and user-friendly.

On top of the product itself, customer support has been responsive and helpful whenever I’ve had a question.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Occasional delays in syncing external accounts, but nothing that impacts the overall experience.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As Head of People Operations, one of my top priorities is ensuring our benefits are meaningful, modern, and easy for employees to use. Retirement planning is often a source of stress and confusion, especially in a global, fast-scaling environment. Betterment at Work solves this by offering a seamless, intuitive platform that takes the complexity out of saving and investing for the future.

From an HR perspective, it reduces administrative burden—we don’t have to wrestle with clunky plan management or confusing compliance requirements. From an employee perspective, it provides a straightforward way to set goals, invest wisely, and feel confident about their financial future. The experience is clean, automated where it should be, and backed by excellent support when questions arise.

The biggest benefit I’ve seen is employee peace of mind. People genuinely appreciate that we’ve invested in a solution that not only makes retirement savings easier but also reflects our commitment to their long-term well-being. It’s become a differentiator in how we talk about total rewards and culture, Betterment at Work aligns with our values of empowerment and trust.

  ### 24. Modern, transparent, and employee-friendly.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elizabeth C. | Administrative Operations Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

•	Clear Pricing: Unlike some traditional providers, Betterment is upfront about costs. You can see the base fee, per-employee fee, and fund expenses without digging. That made budgeting much easier.
	•	Tech & Ease of Use: The platform is sleek and integrates smoothly with payroll, which cut down on admin headaches. The employee dashboard is intuitive and gives people a good snapshot of retirement progress.
	•	Fiduciary Support: Betterment takes on fiduciary roles (3(16) and 3(38)), which is a big relief. It means they handle a lot of compliance and investment oversight that would otherwise land on me.
	•	Employee Perks: The add-ons are a nice touch—things like financial coaching and even options for 529 college savings or student loan repayment. My team appreciated that it went beyond just retirement savings.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

•	Fees for Smaller Teams: If you’re very small, the base + per-person fees add up quickly. Larger companies may feel the value more.
	•	Limited Customization at Lower Tiers: The “Essential” plan doesn’t allow for much flexibility in vesting or plan design. You have to upgrade if you want more control.
	•	Digital-First Support: Most things are online, which I liked, but if you want heavy personal hand-holding, this may not be the best fit.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work is helping us solve the challenges of high administrative burden, confusing fee structures, and low employee engagement with retirement plans. By handling compliance and fiduciary responsibilities, offering transparent pricing, and providing an easy-to-use platform, it saves us time, reduces risk, and gives our employees a benefit they actually value and use.

  ### 25. Efficient and Reliable 401(k) Solution for Employers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marina H. | Director of Finance, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

What I like best about Betterment at Work is how seamless it is to manage our 401(k) plan alongside payroll. The platform is intuitive, transparent, and easy to navigate, which saves me time and gives me confidence that everything is processed correctly. The integration with payroll reduces manual work and minimizes the risk of errors, making it much easier to stay on top of compliance and reporting.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Overall, my experience with Betterment at Work has been very positive. If I had to mention a downside, it would be that some of the reporting tools could be more customizable to fit specific finance and payroll needs. The core functionality is excellent, so this is more of an area for potential improvement rather than a major issue

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work addresses the challenge of accurately managing 401(k) contributions alongside payroll, providing seamless integration that reduces manual reconciliation and potential errors. For me as Director of Finance, this improves operational efficiency, ensures compliance, and gives confidence that all employee retirement contributions are processed correctly and on time.

  ### 26. Betterment is User Friendly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gillie M. | Benefits Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I'm relatively new to managing certain aspects of our company's plan and Betterment has made it very easy for me to get up to speed. I particularly like all of the resources that are available for plan administrators. I was able to easily create a presentation for our company using what Betterment had already provided. Also, I recently had an issue with an employee who could not access their account and the customer support team handled the issue very promptly and to my satisfaction.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One downside to Betterment that I have noticed is that many of my employees somehow skip adding beneficiaries when they set up their accounts. I don't know why it's not more obvious in the flow for them to complete that step. In my estimation, 80% of employees neglect that step.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work gives me the resources to educate my employees, which ultimately contributes to an overall positive culture.

  ### 27. This 401k program has been essential to recruiting new employees

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Implementing the Betterment 401(k) plan for our small business has been a seamless and positive experience from start to finish. As a growing company, we needed a retirement plan provider that offered a modern platform, low fees, and strong employee support—and Betterment has delivered on all fronts.

Ease of Setup & Administration
The onboarding process was straightforward and well-guided. Their platform integrates smoothly with our payroll system, which has significantly reduced the administrative burden on our end. Tasks that used to be time-consuming are now automated and easy to track.

Employee Experience & Engagement
Our team members appreciate the intuitive user interface and the ability to personalize their portfolios based on their goals and risk tolerance. The educational resources and automated investment guidance have helped even first-time investors feel confident about saving for retirement.

Cost-Effectiveness
Betterment’s transparent fee structure is very competitive, especially compared to traditional 401(k) providers. This has allowed us to offer a high-quality retirement plan without straining our budget as a small business.

Support & Compliance
We’ve been impressed with the responsive customer support team and the way Betterment handles compliance and fiduciary responsibilities. It’s reassuring to know those bases are covered so we can stay focused on running our business.

  ### 28. Smart!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

What I like best about Betterment at Work is how seamlessly it combines financial wellness with accessibility. The platform makes it easy for employees to take control of their retirement planning and long-term financial goals, without feeling overwhelmed. I also appreciate the transparency and user-friendly design. It feels empowering to have tools that help make smart financial decisions right at your fingertips.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One area I think could be improved is the level of personalization in the platform’s guidance. While the tools are helpful, sometimes the recommendations feel a bit too generalized and not fully tailored to individual financial situations or goals. A bit more customization or interactive support could make the experience even more impactful.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me personally, it’s helped take the guesswork out of saving for the future. I feel more confident about my financial decisions and more motivated to stay consistent with my contributions. It’s empowering to have a resource that supports financial health without needing to be an expert.

  ### 29. Easy to use, transparent, and helpful for our team

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment makes retirement benefits simple and approachable. The platform is easy to use, the interface is clean, and the setup was smooth for both admins and employees. I also appreciate the transparency around fees and the diversified investment options—it helps employees feel confident about their long-term savings.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There’s not much to dislike, but I think reporting features could be a bit more customizable for admins. It would be nice to have more flexibility in how data is presented for internal tracking.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work helps simplify retirement planning for our team by providing an easy-to-use platform that takes the guesswork out of 401(k) management. ### 30. Betterment at Work has been such an easy decision for us, not once, but twice.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer C. | Finance/HR, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

A previous company that I worked with was looking for a new 401k administrator and we happened upon Betterment - they were so easy to get implemented, both for the employees and for the administrators. When we started a new company we knew immediately who we entrusted with our employees 401k accounts. The rollover process was simple and making any changes is immediate for the employees wanting to update their contributions.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

As far as downsides go, the only thing we've ever had issues with is customer support. At times it was a bit difficult to get ahold of someone, but in recent months we've been assigned a direct account rep so any questions that we've had, we go directly to that person and our questions are answered much quicker.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is helping our employees with their 401k management.

  ### 31. Boosts Employee Motivation with Easy Financial Planning

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I appreciate the automatic investment strategies on Betterment at Work that make it so easy to set up goals. The platform takes the complexity out of the process, which gives me peace of mind knowing that it handles the work efficiently, making the investment process faster and less stressful. The Duca Sonar content provided is also very helpful as it simplifies understanding of how to index, further empowering me to manage financial activities effectively. Additionally, the educational content is written in a way that is easy to understand, empowering clients to take control of their financial decisions without feeling lost. The initial setup was pretty simple to complete, with the system guiding us step by step through the onboarding process, making it smooth and efficient without consuming too much of our time.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I would like to see more customer support options for the remaining plans. Sometimes, the options don't meet all the company's needs, so a bit more flexibility would be helpful. Additionally, the mobile app could be a bit more user-friendly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage employee benefits and investment options, enhancing financial security and motivation. It simplifies complex tasks and provides real-time growth insights, which connects employees to their financial goals. The automation reduces stress and speeds up processes.

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's always great to get a review on some of the basics as well as more technical/legal aspects of Betterment 401K plans. It was a well rounded presentation and it was nice to hear from different perspectives and roles within the company.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Would love more practical and day-to-day basics presentations, especially when it comes to best helping employers educate themselves and educate employees. This could be reviewing Betterment product offerings, how to best get employees set up for success, how to navigate the website and use the tools that are offered.
Would be great to have an employer education on this and something that is shareable with employees.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment does do a great job of offering different plans and tools to provide for employer/employees. Would love more education tools on how to best utilize the offerings

I appreciate its features because they are excellent and intuitive. The interface is user-friendly and has a modern feel, which makes managing accounts and handling construction changes much faster. My colleagues also really liked the automation, as it is perfect for employees who prefer management with minimal intervention.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

What I didnt like was only one thing and that is the options that only focus on ETF based portfolios.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I really liked it; it was excellent and addresses many challenges involved in offering a 401(K) benefit. It is also helpful for managing investment portfolios and supporting overall financial wellness.

  ### 35. Great Services, but terrible onboarding experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt S. | Chief Compliance Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2024

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The fees are low
Easily integrates with our payroll provider
Employees have appreciated the many different products offered beyond 401k/Roth accounts
Dedicated person to speak with on questions/complications (must schedule ahead though)

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

We had a terrible onboarding experience and it was very hard to get into contact with the proper people. The missed some specifics in our plan document and misinterpreted how we wanted things structured that took months to fix.

I can have a question I need answering at 9am, but it's impossible to schedule same-day customer support. However, the system is much better than previously where you were thrown into the email queue and it took the better part of a week to get someone to respond.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integration with payroll system
Various options for employees to invest their 401k/Roth

  ### 36. From financial stress to confident planning

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raoul B. | Head of Financial Wellness and Equity, Performing Arts, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The customizable financial advice in Betterment at Work has been valuable to me, particularly the information about debt management. The software has also enabled us to integrate it with our payroll system and onboarding employees into the program has become easier. The learning materials are also amazing; the investment strategy webinars have assisted my team to gain smarter financial ways of doing things.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Another area of concern is the fact that there is a lack of diversification of investment options in some of the managed portfolios. I would like to have some flexibility there. Also, the establishment and implementation demanded a higher IT-support than I expected. The interface of the mobile app can be optimized to get the information faster.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our issue was poor employee enrolment in our retirement plan. One of the biggest obstacles was the unawareness. Our enrollment and engagement rates have been on the rise since Betterment at Work was introduced. The simple reporting is making employees feel better about their financial future.

  ### 37. Streamlined Project Assignment, but Integration and Reporting Could Improve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Celina O. | Employee performance manager, Media Production, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The thing that I would like to genuinely appreciate about Betterment at Work is the way it has made internal project assignment process straight forward. It becomes a lot more convenient to check who is working on what and to redistribute the resources in case of urgent requirements. The real-time team bandwidth dashboard has also come in handy with regard to realistic project planning.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Sometimes, the integration to our old system of HR may be a bit cumbersome and some manual data input will be necessary, which seems unnecessary. I would also like to have the ability to have more granular reporting of customized team metrics beyond the standard project views. The notifications may be rather excessive at times unless controlled carefully.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our hybrid workforce was also having difficulties with consistent communication and alignment of projects, resulting in missed deadlines. Since the introduction of Betterment at Work, we have a centralized location where all the project updates and tasks can be tracked. This has greatly minimized misunderstandings and everyone is in the same page irrespective of their whereabouts.

  ### 38. Seamless Payroll Integration and Easy 401(k) Management

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jesse N. | Director of people Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment has been a great partner for our 401(k) offering. The platform is intuitive for employees, and from an admin perspective, the payroll integration is seamless - it just works without extra effort on our end. Their automation and ease of use make plan management simple and efficient. Easy-to-use platform for both admins and employees with strong automation that reduces manual work.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Reporting could be more customizable, and there is limited ability to tailor certain features to unique company needs.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is solving the challenge of managing a 401(k) plan without adding administrative burden. The seamless payroll integration eliminates manual work and errors, while the automated features make it easy to keep the plan running smoothly. This saves time for our team and gives employees a straightforward, user-friendly retirement benefit.

  ### 39. Affordable, User-Friendly 401(k) Solution for Small Business

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As a small business with 6 employees, we value Betterment at Work for its simplicity and affordability. The seamless payroll integration automates contributions, saving us significant administrative time. The intuitive app empowers our team to manage their 401(k) investments easily. Low, transparent fees—around $5 per participant monthly—make it cost-effective, and the responsive email support ensures quick resolution of any questions.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There are a few areas where it falls short for us. Primarily, the lack of phone support means we're stuck with email responses, which can take days to answer questions for our small team and this can be frustrating when quick resolutions are needed. Additionally, the portfolio options, though diversified, feel somewhat limited for employees seeking more customization beyond the basics. A Flexible Portfolio option exists for tweaks, but it's not as intuitive for non-experts, and we'd love more specialized choices like heavy ESG or sector-specific funds without extra hassle.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work addresses several key challenges for our 6-person small business, primarily around offering a 401(k) plan without the complexity and high costs of traditional providers.
Administrative Burden: Managing a retirement plan can be daunting for a small team without a dedicated HR staff. Betterment’s automated platform handles contribution calculations and payroll syncs (despite occasional hiccups), freeing up our time to focus on core business operations.
Cost Barriers: Traditional 401(k) plans often come with high fees that are prohibitive for small businesses. Betterment’s low-cost structure—around $5 per participant monthly—makes it affordable, allowing us to offer a valuable benefit without straining our budget.
Employee Engagement: Our team lacks deep financial expertise, so the intuitive app and pre-built portfolios (like the Core Portfolio for broad market exposure or the Social Impact Portfolio for ESG-focused investing) simplify retirement planning. Employees can easily track and adjust their investments, boosting their confidence and participation in the plan.

  ### 40. Keeps Us on Track, Needs More Personalization

The platform provides our team with extra resources like mindfulness exercises, time management tips, and personalized wellness plans, which are incredibly valuable for maintaining work-life balance. The initial setup was straightforward, and the onboarding process was simple, which made it easy for my team to get started without any significant issues.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I think the ability to customize more aspects of the wellness plans could be improved. Sometimes, the general template doesn't fit everyone perfectly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to enhance work-life balance with tools for progress tracking, goal setting, stress management, mental health, and personalized wellness plans, which serve as invaluable resources for my team.

  ### 41. Quick Enrollment and Assistance

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah S. | Office MAnager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The enrollment for new employees is very efficient. It allows me to onboard new hires in moments. I am in Betterment multiple times a week and the websites ease of use is efficient and economical. I don't ever have to look from one tab to another trying to find what I need.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Occasional issues with employees receiving emails and/or delayed emails for enrollment. I prefer to have them sit with me when they first log in but there are times that we have to wait, I resend the invite and we wait more. Employees emails are verified, so I assume this is a communication issue.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of enrollment and billing. It has allowed time to interact with new employees instead of sitting and setting up all benefits we offer.

  ### 42. If you're with Rippling (or any payroll other than Gusto), pick Betterment for your 401k

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacob D. | Director of Development, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 16, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We love how Betterment does the best job of optimizing low fees & great technology. We recently switched to Rippling as our payroll provider and we looked into the ~40 different 401k providers that integrate with Rippling. We quickly narrowed down the list to the 3 tech-forward companies that most integrate with Rippling (Human Interest, Betterment, Guideline), 2 other newer low-cost options (401GO and Employee Fiduciary), and 2 of the legacy providers (Fidelity and Vanguard). Most of the other options were other legacy providers that simply had higher fees or less brand-name recognition than Fidelity or Vanguard. Of those 7 options, we researched them further, set up calls, and realized that: a) Guideline was recently acquired by Gusto and there's a lot of uncertainty of what's happening to the non-Gusto accounts, b) Human Interest has very high list fees (they charge 72 basis points to the participants for advisory and other fees when Betterment charges 25 basis points). Yes, you can negotiate them down, but there's always the concern that they'll shift you to the listed fees. Plus, they don't have a mobile app (Guideline and Betterment both have highly rated apps), c) 401Go has had 1 review in 2025 on G2 and has very few reviews on their mobile app, d) Employee Fiduciary seems like a great low-cost option if you plan on forever staying in the under 50 employee range (we plan on growing) and they don't have a mobile app, e) Fidelity wouldn't even talk to us (we filled out their form online twice, called them once) - they are more focused on the larger clients. Plus, even if they do talk with you, they charge 50 basis points (that's twice as expensive as Betterment's 25 bp), and f) Vanguard has low flat fees, but it's actually more expensive for new / startup plans. When you're a mid-size plan with a decent amount of assets, then Vanguard's fees are less than many other providers, but you're not actually with Vanguard - you're with Ascensus and any employees who don't have a personal Vanguard account, would use the "ReadySave" app which has pretty bad reviews. We actually were feeling quite annoyed and frustrated going through this identification process because there seemed to be glaring cost or technology issues with most of the providers. Until we had a call with Betterment. Shout-out to Kyle! Thanks for all your help and we're excited to partner with Betterment for their 401k solution.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Not much. Maybe it was their contract was pretty long to read, but that's probably pretty standard for most 401k providers.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is helping launch our 401(k). We picked Betterment because they are the best provider based on the two main qualities we were evaluating: great technology and low fees.

  ### 43. Streamlined Admin Work, User-Friendly, but Needs Faster Issue Resolution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ali M. | Operation Maneger, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

This system has played a crucial role in greatly reducing our administrative workload. As a result, the company has seen a marked improvement in its financial well-being. Additionally, the system stands out for its user-friendly design, which has made the implementation process even smoother.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

While the system is notably easy to use, I have encountered occasional errors and challenges when trying to integrate specific vendors. In addition, I have observed that the response time can be slow when dealing with more complex issues. Lastly, some of my colleagues have mentioned that the withdrawal process tends to be sluggish.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The adoption of Betterment at Work has greatly improved our internal processes. This tool has made management more efficient by substantially reducing the time spent on registration, contribution calculations, and transfer tasks. As a result of this increased efficiency, we are now able to allocate more resources to strategic initiatives.

  ### 44. Betterment was incredible to work with and made the onboarding process so easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jennifer S. | Accounting Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

That it seamlessly integrates with our payroll provider Gusto

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I have not found anything I dislike about Betterment. The program is easy to use and manage and the support we have received during set up and implementation has been above and beyond

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our employees have access to their information in real time, with an app that is useful and easy to navigate. They are able to make changes to their own accounts without having to go through me and that is such a time saver. Also the Betterment courses and literature have been helpful in educating our employees about the reasons why investing is important for their future, and how to go about making the best investment choices for their personal situations.

  ### 45. Quality program and responsive service

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Julie A. | Chief Administrative Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I love the Betterment Dashboard and how easy it is to navigate. I also like that I can approve a payroll before it is processed. It's ease of implementation and integration into my payroll system was top notch. Customer support has always been responsive and helpful with all my questions as well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't have any dislikes thus far. I am happy with all the features.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Retirement and investment potential for my employees. It is benefiting our small business by the offering of a Safe Harbor plan, which protects us by requiring a 6-month waiting period before employees are eligible for entry. It also requires an employee to work for two consecutive years before they are vested with the employer match.

  ### 46. Clear, Modern UI with Powerful Automation and an Easy-to-Use API

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shahin M. | Senior Software Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really liked the user interface because it’s clear, modern, and easy to navigate, and the API is simple to use. I also loved the automation, portfolio linking, and tax loss collection; those features are excellent for me.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I ran into some integration issues, and I didn’t like that customer service didn’t resolve them.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s an excellent tool that runs in the background while I focus on my code. On top of that, its robust, automated system has been very beneficial, and I find it aesthetically superior to other options.

  ### 47. Betterment at Work transformed our team's communication, ending the information silos

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adam N. | People Analytics and Insights Manager, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I do like the fact that Betterment at Work assists us in recording the development of our internal knowledge base. It has made it so much easier to track who made what and when which has been essential to keep our team accurate as it grows. Our training materials also have a version history that can also be described as a life-saver, as it ensures that old information does not spread.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Search option might be a little stronger. I have the problem that I can sometimes find particular older documents that I know are there. It would also be nice to be able to have it more easily integrated with our project management software without having to have it custom-written.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our problem was in the way of provided internal communication and sharing of knowledge between our remote teams. With the introduction of Betterment at Work, all people have a focal point where they can get updated policies as well as procedures. This has greatly saved misunderstandings and saved us many hours searching information.

  ### 48. Responsive Team, Clear Guidance—A Great Start with Betterment

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The team has been great about responding to requests. They explain things very well and have guided us in all aspects where we have needed them. The cost is also much less than we were paying with our previous provider.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

So far we do not have any aspects we are unhappy with. In full transparency, we have been with Betterment less than 6 months but it has been great.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They provide the 401k management. Without them I would not know how to do any of this stuff. Their webinars are also fantastic.

  ### 49. happy with Betterment 401(k) services thus far

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jay A. | chief operating officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

after researching a few different 401(k) providers for our small business, I decided to go with Betterment. the 401(k) system easily integrated with our payroll processor which was helpful. the website is easy to use. what thing that was very important to us is that Betterment offers both pre-tax and ROTH 401(k)s for employees. one of my favorite things about Betterment is access to ultra low cost ETFs.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

one thing I hope Betterment will add is access to the Mega/ Backdoor ROTH 401(k) which is currently not available.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we use Betterment at Work for the 401(k) platform ... we are a small/ newer company so Betterment offered a great, cost effective solution to provide retirement savings vehicle.

  ### 50. Excellent/Simple 401k Plan Administration

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John G. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The interface is very simple--allowing employees to control investment choices by simply setting a risk tolerance which equates to a pre-set allocation between stocks/bonds. These choices can auto-adjust via Betterment's algorithm as well. As an administrator, the interface is very simple and modern. It's easy to add new employees, integrate with a Payroll company and upload payroll data on a monthly basis. Support has been easy to work with as well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

When the integration with payroll was advertised it wasn't well-baked and needed some corrections after being established. But support was very helpful in getting that done.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to offer a great benefit of a well managed 401k plan to our employees.
