What is the top-rated service desk software for large enterprises?

Looking for some input from folks running IT at scale. I’m trying to figure out which service desk platforms actually hold up for large enterprises and don’t collapse under complexity.

From the G2 Grid, here are the top-rated ones:

  • ServiceNow IT Service Management: The heavyweight, with full ITSM, automation, workflows, and integrations. Known as the enterprise standard, but comes with complexity and cost.
  • Jira Service Management: Strong for companies already deep in Atlassian, good Dev + IT alignment, though it may require extra customization for full enterprise ITSM.
  • Freshservice: Easier to deploy than ServiceNow, ITIL-aligned, with decent automation — but might not cover every enterprise-level need out of the box.
  • SysAid: Mid-market friendly, with solid asset management and ITSM features. Can work for enterprises, but not as widely adopted as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • ManageEngine: Broader IT management suite with a service desk included, appealing for enterprises that want a single vendor across multiple IT tools.

For those working in large enterprises, which platform has actually been the most reliable for you? And is ServiceNow really the gold standard, or are lighter platforms catching up?

I’m also curious, for those of you who’ve rolled these out at enterprise scale, what ended up being the biggest differentiator? Was it automation and AI features, deep integrations with the rest of your IT stack, or reporting/analytics for leadership?
