Don't like anything. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** My experience with Paylocity has been nothing short of a disastrous administrative nightmare. If I could give this company a zero-star rating, I absolutely would. To start, their customer service is shockingly unprofessional. Their representative, Kaleb Whittekiend, had the audacity to call me at 6:00 AM. Not only was the timing wildly inappropriate, but he was also incredibly rude, obnoxious, and completely useless in actually resolving any of our issues. The entire implementation process was completely butchered from the start. We relied on them as our professional payroll provider during a transition, and their team failed to bring a massive, critical tax registration issue to our attention. Because of their sheer negligence and incompetence in handling our California EDD account, they defaulted to submitting our tax payments via paper checks without our knowledge or authorization, violating state electronic filing mandates. This catastrophic failure in their system and communication directly resulted in our company being slammed with nearly $90,000 in EDD noncompliance penalties and a subsequent bank levy. We trusted them to handle our payroll and tax compliance, and their botched implementation cost us tens of thousands of dollars. This is by far the worst payroll transition and customer service experience I have ever encountered. There are some good project managers but sometimes, I end up coming up with a solution for problems. Our specific account manager is never available. I have been working on one problem for almost a month and have had to repeat myself almost every time I reach out. The system's reports were wrong at one point, and the response we received was 'we know but there's nothing we can do.' We started integration with time and labor, and they set up our timecodes wrong, and they still have not corrected this. I can run any data I want or if they do not have the report, it's easy to build any report I want to run. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** They keep changing everything too much. When something works fine, there is no need to change. I hate how they changed all of their colors from orange to black. The colors are so depressing when trying to do payroll. I also hate how talking to an employee at paylocity, they won't help you and try to get you to read some peak article that still doesn't help. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** The only new change I am excited about it they are bringing changes to the mobile app where employees can change their direct deposit themselves and not have to log in on a computer or have me do it. ### 4. Cost is bad, service is bad and software is bad. There is nothing to like **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** A year in to our relationship and couldn't be more disappointed. First off our account manager dropped us after 4 months saying he would be with us the whole way. He is still at the company just not servicing our account so nice bait and switch there. They told us a bunch of things during our implementation that were not true. We even caught them pretty clearly in a lie and they tried to gaslight us saying "I know it is confusing but that was not the intent" even though it was said extremely plainly. They ended up giving us a discount for the pricing discrepancy but kept saying they were not admitting they were actually incorrect. Had to take tax payments away from them on the first payroll because they handled it wrong. You never get your actual account manager when you call support it is always some random and you have to pray they are helpful (about 10% of them are). Today the agent on the phone told me I should not change the settings for employee account permissions because it doesn't actually work and will create problems and that I should instead reach out to the security team as they cannot change the settings. The security team has a response time of 3-5 business days..... Now my employee cannot run payroll till they get back to us. Every time you ask them about something "oh they just told us that is how it is set up and we cannot change it". $15k a year to just have nothing work **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Timeclocks is the only thing they are doing semi effectively and even that is requiring a bunch of manual fixing ### 5. We were sold this product as a better solution to our HRIS needs, but it has been nothing but a disaster with total self-implementation and zero support before or after. The salesperson lied about the support we would receive, and attempts to escalate issues have gone unanswered for over six months. The promised services for HR and Payroll do not deliver. The reporting, which was supposed to be a robust, customized solution, is confusing. There's absolutely no support in learning the system, dealing with problems, or finding responses to issues. I can't get anyone at Paylocity to return my calls or emails. Also, promised integrations can't be done. Some are very rude and sound like they don't want to be at work. Since we started with Paylocity, we've had many problems, and my team often figures stuff out on our own. I also think the data insights is very helpful and a good way to get a quick look at company data. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** Reporting is not always accurate. I wish supervisors could send the performance revies of their direct reports to other managers for collaboration (Currently i have to assign another reviewer manually). You can't future date payroll things, or it will throw off the current payroll. We currently have HR& Payroll and Bwsift (benefits on separate platform) The two teams HR&P and Benefits don't talk to each other. When I ask one a question, they will say that's a benefits question and won't offer further assistance or even copy in the benefits team. We are trying to implement the Ben Admin through Paylocity to get rid of Bswift, but we can't even get a call with the Benefits team to do this. Our sales rep tried to get us a call, but we've been ghosted and they won't respond to our emails. I also don't like how you can't do many back-end things yourself. You have to put in a ticket for a rep to do it, and sometimes they don't understand, they don't do it correctly, or it messes other things up. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm not sure what this question means. Not everything is user friendly. WHen i call in for support, they usually don't know the answers either so I don't usually trust them. ### 12. Time and attendance don't work well for me at all; nothing maps correctly during setup, and the team couldn't build the necessary pay codes for staff. This means I have to go in and make amendments every payroll. The employees seem poorly trained and are so narrowly focused that they lack a real understanding of the subject matter. They appear to have no grasp of how the system is actually used in practice. I can't even obtain basic information, such as which fields are available. The training consists of watching a video and reading an article that often doesn't apply and is frequently outdated. When I have questions, I'm told to wait until the next week's meeting, where I have just one hour to get answers. We ended up delaying our initial live payroll four times. There is no real consulting available, as the employees themselves don't seem to understand their own system. Always helpful when needed **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I9's can't be redone just by section 2, the applicant must do everything over again if there is an error, and the auto fill in on the documents has lots of errors. Too many clicks just for simple EAFs, and when transferring someone store location needs changed in 2 different places. In community you can not remove someone from a smart group that was manually added, you basically have to delete the group and start over. Nothing on the face of the app to show if you missed a communication! You can not zoom in on pictures and or reports when using the app. When using the app you can not access the customized journals (this happened after the last update). The way it section is set up, the fact that the system is not smart enough to understand that when an employee is going out on leave at a future date that the person is still active till that date. Vendors are able to manage themselves, which is a lovely feature. Routing for approval and paying within Airbase is simple. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** 1. Onboarding was insanely painful. We signed up right as Airbase got bought by Paylocity and it was a disaster in changed policies/practices, etc. Our onboarding took nearly 5 months from signing to being able to use. 2. We were sold on Airbase because we wanted to continue to use our corporate Amex cards within Airbase, and were ensured we were able to do this. Were told Airbase had "all the functionality of competitors Expensify and Ramp". We were sold a huge lie. The corporate card function is pathetic - see below. I'm only outlining the bigger problems; there are countless other UI/UX issues that make the product annoying but not impossible to use. CARD RECONCILIATION ISSUES: Note: We use Amex cards, imported into Airbase. I can't speak to Airbase's own cards, although I imagine functionality is the same as below. 1. BIGGEST ISSUE: When reviewing submitted transactions, YOU CANNOT REJECT A TRANSACTION BACK TO EMPLOYEE/TEAM MEMBER. So "send for approval" isn't for approval. You can't reject. --> If coding is wrong, accounting team needs to change MANUALLY instead of sending back to submitter. --> If receipts aren't acceptable, you need to obtain proper receipts outside of Airbase. You cannot replace the receipt. --> If notes/comment aren't correct, you cannot change them (or send back to user to change) 2. ANOTHER HUGE ISSUE: Card transactions by default are AUTOMATICALLY synced to your Accounting System AS BILLS in Airbase. Meaning in your Bills module (in Netsuite, in our case), you have a mess of $2 parking charges, and thousands of line transactions as bills. --> They also 'automatically' make a 'payment' in your accounting system, which makes a mess when reconciling the TRUE credit card payment. --> because it is auto-sync by default, it pulls in IMPROPER CODING bc employees aren't given a chance to update. Terrible. --> They are unable to sync to the Credit Card Module, or even sync as Journal Entries, like other competitors (and as promised). --> If you want to avoid this, the only option is to manually export/import into your software, but their reporting is TERRIBLE (even they have stated as much) and there is no report where you can accurately pull all the information you need via CSV. You need to pull 2 reports, marry them together, and manually import to your accounting software. Once done, there is no way to quickly sort by 'approved' and mark all as manually sync'd - you need to do in small batches. This bandaid process takes at least 3-4 hours. 3. HUGE ISSUE #3: THERE IS NO WAY TO REQUIRE EMPLOYEES CODE CREDIT TRANSACTIONS. If they got credited for a flight, the transaction DOESN'T EVEN SHOW UP FOR THEM TO SUBMIT FOR REVIEW/APPROVAL. --> If that transaction was to hit a certain project, Class, or division, the employee won't submit anything unless you manually request information outside of Airbase on the coding, and manually add to your accounting software. --> So if an employee says "a credit is coming through", you'll see it on your ccard statement but never submitted for coding/approval. --> we now have to run reports monthly to pull all credit transactions, filter by employee, and manually send for coding outside of Airbase. So stupid. ---> Managers aren't seeing credit transactions when reviewing a team's credit card spend, meaning monthly charges submitted are overinflated. This is hugely problematic in production (returns are commonplace) 4. When reviewing/approving, you can ONLY sort (and see) by the 'submission date'. Anyone in Finance knows, submission date is irrelevant. They are unable to change this to 'transaction date' so you can accurately review coding/notes consistent with dates $ was spent. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** At this point, Airbase is only solving quick and easy Accounts Payable functionality. They are causing more problems than solving on the Credit Card side. Since our implementation, our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. First and foremost, Paylocity failed to adequately transfer essential data during the implementation process. This oversight resulted in numerous issues, including but not limited to, failure to file unemployment reporting with the states, negligence in filing quarter and year-end reporting for federal withholdings and federal unemployment, and failure to report withholdings to the state. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues, Paylocity continued to demonstrate a lack of accountability and competence. Not only did they fail to rectify their mistakes in a timely manner, but they also failed to produce accurate W2s, a fundamental responsibility of any payroll company. Moreover, Paylocity's support team proved to be utterly useless in resolving these critical matters. Their delayed responses and inability to comprehend the severity of the situation only exacerbated our frustration. As a seasoned professional with over a decade of experience in payroll and accounting, I can confidently say that I have never encountered such incompetence and negligence from a payroll service provider. Had an employee request time off yesterday and I got the email notification as I always have. Today, when I logged into Paylocity and went to the time off request section, there were no requests. I then went to a different time off request section and it wasn't appearing there either. All of the above is forgivable, I comprehend that tools can sometimes run into technical issues. What isn't acceptable is that they will not answer any manager questions as to why their tool does not work. I called and wasted 30 minutes speaking with transient support agents. Confirmed my company, account, my ID, my employee's ID- the agents were able to see he submitted a time off request- but they then blew me off with no explanation as to why the request wasn't appearing. Don't have some basic reporting that ADP and Paychex offer. Any report that is not pre existing they tell you it's a custom report and want to charge $375. ADP does not charge for custome reports. They talk you through it on the phone and it's done. Yes, it's easy to get someone on the phone at Paylocity, but not so easy to get someone who is actually helpful. If you are currently with a payroll company really think about switching to Paylocity. You could just be exchanging one headache for another.
