Before Paylocity, we used a well-known payroll company just to run payroll, and we paid more for less. We didn’t have time clocks or an HR module, and the whole situation was truly ridiculous. They only offered us a discount after we put them on notice that we were ending our account, and then months later they sent a more competitive offer that included the HR module. But knowing they were taking advantage of a non-profit, shredding that piece of mail was so satisfying! **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I honestly can’t think of anything I dislike. Were there bumps in the road at the beginning? YES, but in my opinion that is to be expected. I understand that moving an entire payroll system takes a massive amount of time and dedication by not only us, but Paylocity as well. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** So many benefits. We didn’t have a time clock before, and adding one has helped cut down on the waste that was happening when employees recorded their own time on paper timesheets. We’re a non-profit organization licensed by the state, and we’re held to a very high standard, so reducing that risk matters. It has also cut down on potential onboarding errors. Having the HR/Payroll, Time and Labor, and Performance modules has been a game changer for our organization. Our payroll isn’t average—it’s complex for most payroll companies. Before my tenure, the organization tried two other payroll companies in an effort to save money. Both said they could handle our payroll, but after each implementation it became clear they couldn’t. Because of that history, it was honestly a little scary to hear another company say they could handle it. However, after a call with Paylocity where we walked through what our payroll would look like, I had far fewer doubts. Our implementation specialist guided us through the first two to three weeks of running payroll to confirm they could support our needs and to help our payroll specialist feel confident running payroll independently. ### 2. The full suite of HR modules covers every aspect of HR management, which is very convenient. It was also a cost-saving move for us compared to our previous HRIS. Additionally, Paylocity has made running payroll efficient across the US and Canada, and it allows for easy handling of benefit enrollments and premium collections. I appreciate the way it manages recruiting and onboarding processes directly on the platform. The reporting feature that lets me capture and analyze data for organization metrics regarding headcount, compensation, and retention is also really helpful. The initial setup of Paylocity was streamlined, making the implementation process as smooth as possible. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** One area that could improve is the customization. Different modules have different customization capabilities. Some modules we can configure to fit our needs, whereas other modules have very little configuration capabilities, so what it presents is what you get. It can be frustrating to figure out which modules can be configured and which can't. It would be great to fully customize fields and workflows. Paylocity has introduced conditional workflows, but it doesn't allow for much customization on the fields or pathways. When there are things I don't understand between the knowledge base, AI interface, and their customer service I get answers rather quickly. After reviewing many other services, with the integrations that are available - it made the mose sense for us to stay with Paylocity. The price was more favorable than other services with I feel the right amount of support for the size of our oranization. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I still feel I have to do a lot of research on my own to fully understand the product and what I need to do to stay compliant. I recently enabled the HR edge feature with the understanding that it would help with compliance, but many of my questions get turned back to my standard paylocity team. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm able to track HR services throughout all of my businesses and see what's going on without spending hours tracking it down. We grew really rapidly from a team of about 10-12 to over 50 within a few years - timecards and payroll were still done manually in spreadsheets and on paper so switching to an online system really helped bring us into the current century. From their our use of Paylocity really grew and grew as I worked to keep track of compliance. ### 6. I also appreciate that I can run as many payrolls as needed, which is especially helpful when employees resign at the last minute in California and Hawaii (both immediate pay states). I like the number of modules you can choose from, and I’ve been particularly happy with Time and Labor. The pricing is very reasonable for what we get, and we haven’t had issues with the system being down. Onboarding varies by country, but overall it has been very good. I also have regular calls with our team at Paylocity to work out any kinks as they come up. Finally, I like the reporting the system provides on turnover and employee information. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** It’s not always clear what’s required for international staff in Paylocity, or what will trigger sync issues—France, in particular, has been challenging. Time-off accruals also aren’t real time. We had real-time accruals with our previous HRIS system, so I know it can be done, and I really wish Paylocity offered real-time accruals as well. This gap definitely creates issues for our finance team. I also don’t like that when someone moves to a new location (we’re a global business with global mobility), we have to fully terminate them in the system and then rehire them as new. That process disrupts the employee ID number we use in Concur. As a result, someone in Paylocity has to delete all of the “pay history” from closed payrolls just to change a location in the system, which is definitely frustrating. I would like their analytic reporting on disability and other things to be global not just US based. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Global payroll is much easier now that it’s all in one place. We used to have workflow issues, but the workflows are now consistent across the board, and it’s one system for everything. ### 7. The system works seamlessly between each platform you can purchase in your suite. The support received by the account manager has been helpful and quick (most cases). **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** As of recent, we've had a few issues with the report writer. We believe it's not the most user friendly or easiest to use. If there were more training on how to build reports, that would be great. Support time has been slower as of recent, but averaged out over the last few years that I've personally used the system, it's been good overall. The AI piece has a long ways to go to really be considered helpful. Right now it just gives you articles from Paylocity's PEAK area to assist with troubleshooting, but doesn't answer questions fully and it can't pull real-time data from the system (like an employee's pay, how many hours did employee work within a time frame, etc.). **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paylocity is currently helping us with one of the reports that we've built in report writer. It's our 401K report that we have to send to our carrier each payroll. They're also looking at setting up 360 integration with our carrier that way we can hopefully do away with the report. One of Paylocity’s greatest strengths was its responsive customer support—whenever an issue arose, I could easily reach a live representative by phone for immediate, effective resolution. The platform itself is highly intuitive and user-friendly. Beyond its cost-effective pricing structure, Paylocity provided robust integration capabilities that competitors simply couldn't match, allowing for a far more connected tech stack. Although my hands-on experience took place over four years ago—prior to the widespread adoption of modern enterprise AI—the core platform was exceptional. Given their track record of innovation, I anticipate their current AI-driven features deliver substantial efficiency gains for payroll and HR operations. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** My only minor critique involves account management continuity post-onboarding. Although we were assigned a dedicated account representative, support calls were consistently routed to available general representatives instead. Across roughly five support interactions, I rarely—if ever—spoke directly with our primary contact. I find running a payroll the best feature. It allows me freedom to review and edit time punches, PTO and other customizations. The payroll reports are simple to export and clearly read. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** I found it challenging trying to make a correction after the time cards had been approved. However, I was able to get an agent on the phone to walk me through unlocking the individual needing correction. It was a little confusing, because it did not unlock the entire list of employees. You can only unlock one category ie full time employees. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paylocity helps file our Quarterly and Wage Reports as well as other withholding and tax reports which greatly simplifies those tasks for our company. It would otherwise be an extremely time consuming endeavor to compile all that information. Also the report library is extensive and provides the reports needed for monthly reporting to our Board of Directors. This too saves time in preparing for these meetings so we can concentrate on other aspects. ### 16. Paylocity is on top of legislation which gives you comfort in knowing you are compliant **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** My downside is at one point we left to go to a different provider. After 9 months we came back. We were not able to utilize the same accounts. We were able to copy much of it but I am not able to refer to those accounts for records without being charged significant amounts. IRS is starting many audits from several years ago and would be nice not be charged a lot of money to see those accounts knowing that we paid for them at the time we were using them. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I think PL has a true understanding on every aspect of a business from on boarding to payroll, to compliance, to operations of the business to the business side on finance and gives you a one stop shop platform. Adding our employee handbook and policies to the AI tool is very nice so that employees can ask questions before reaching their manager or HR. Paylocity integrates well with LinkedIn Recruiter to automatically post jobs on our Linked In page. Overall, it performs very well as a full HRIS solution. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** Some of the integrations can be a little costly such as with our 401k vendor, performance tools, etc. There are some things I would love to integrate but the per headcount cost is a little too high. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our Paylocity account manager is amazing and organized. Anytime I open a ticket to optimize the system or fix glitches, she follows up with my regularly and explains them in depth. They've also gone far and beyond to accommodate our unique setup since 2014 and we cannot be more thankful. We continue to expand our client base and look forward to the many enhancements and new features to come. **What do you dislike about Paylocity?** Honestly, there is not much to dislike with Paylocity's platform. Like any vendor, hiccups occur but they're so infrequent, it's hard to pinpoint one or another. In a Utopian world, perhaps we'd expect no downtime, timely payroll package deliveries (not even Paylocity's issue here, to be frank) and more legal support (I know this is not part of the service offering). With that said, we are overall happy. **Recommendations to others considering Paylocity:** This is a tech organization that became an elusive, all-around leader in the payroll and HRIS space. Give them a shot when considering an ideal payroll platform for your organization. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a PEO, Paylocity is helping us accommodate a common pay master setup for our business that would otherwise require us to use a PEO-friendly platform (Paylocity was never in the PEO business, truly). Where we've come with this and, more or less, the success rate of the setup, has benefited our organization in being able to run properly and in compliance with PEO-mandated laws in the country. ### 49. For example, timecards were recently updated to show 4 decimal places. I understand this is required in a few other states, but for us it has made tracking time a bit more cumbersome, since rounding to the nearest two decimals is no longer an option. It also ends up confusing employees. **What problems is Paylocity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Onboarding has been much smoother for us. We’re in the hospitality industry, and our busy season is in the summer, so we bring on over a hundred seasonal workers in a short time frame.
