I like that ElevenLabs allows me to create high-quality narration for my freelance video projects without needing a soundproof booth or high-quality mic. The ability to generate studio-quality voiceovers in noisy environments, like a crowded cafeteria, is a lifesaver, and the audio is crystal clear and professional. I can quickly iterate on my projects without the need to re-record, just by tweaking the text and hitting generate. The feature to easily switch between professional corporate tones to high-energy voices in seconds is impressive. I really appreciate the startup plan and the professional plan that I've tried recently. What stands out most is how I can create very custom voiceovers by typing effects like low cinematic bass, high excitement, or even a gasp or whisper. It avoids sounding robotic or AI-generated. The multilingual model is also very helpful for translating my scripts into various accents like British or American English, saving me from paying extra for specific accents. Plus, the background music creation that matches the mood of my prompt saves me from digging through royalty-free libraries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I don't really like is when you're paying for a subscription with your own money, the fails hurt a lot more because they cost you credits. The credit drain is my biggest gripe. Every time the AI misinterprets a sentence or adds a weird glitch and I have to hit generate, it takes up my credits. If there could be a low-res preview just to test the sentences' intonation for free, that would be really good. Another issue is sometimes when changing the voiceover to a different accent, it doesn't really dilute the previous or base accent. You end up with a mixture of accents, like Indian plus Latin, which is not that great. If I'm opting for a British English voiceover, I would rather it be entirely British. Of course, there is some hallucination that happens, and if you click on generate multiple times, it shows there's an unstable long-form generation, which is a bad way to use all your credits.
