Updates are phenomenal. I'm using the PowerDirector mobile, and it's amazing how granular and vast the effects options are for the price. I pay $4.99 a month and have access to three enormous stock libraries of images, movies, and music, plus I'm using a fantastic chroma key, gaussian blur, and tons of really pretty effects like fire and magic that just make it so much easier to create fantastic worlds. They incessantly goad you to update - and when I tried to get what was promoted as a "free" update, it put watermarks on my video until I paid.
