## FreePBX Reviews
  ### 1. Flexible, Cost-Effective Asterisk Management with a Web-Based GUI

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nayan G. | Linux Administrator, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 15, 2026

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

It makes Asterisk easy to manage through a web-based GUI, while still allowing for advanced customization when you need it. The modular approach keeps it flexible and cost-effective, and it integrates smoothly with platforms like Twilio and Telnyx.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

More advanced changes often mean you have to work directly with the Asterisk configuration files, and updates or new modules can sometimes break things or cause unexpected issues.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It handles call routing, IVRs, extensions, and trunking through an easy-to-use interface, rather than relying on manual configuration.

Benefit:
It saves time, reduces errors, and makes it possible to deploy and manage a scalable VoIP system without needing deep telephony expertise.

  ### 2. Feature-Rich and Easy Way to Install Asterisk with FreePBX

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jason H. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2026

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

FreePBX is a free solution for office phone network that is full of features and an easy way to install Asterisk and integrate into your office enviroment.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

FreePBX, while much simpler to use than Asterisk alone does have a small learning curve.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FreePBX provides a robust office phone system solution for my business with many features found on more expensive PBX/VoIP integrations for a low cost.

  ### 3. Great free features and easy setup, ideal for virtual installations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kennie G. | Chief of Technology, Transportation/Trucking/Railroad, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 09, 2025

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

It has great free features and is easy to set up, call reporting system, and best of all, it can be installed virtually.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

Your update process sometimes loses the configuration of the trunks or network card when installing if there are many SIPs.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows at low cost to implement a Telephone Central solution and interconnect via IP (Internet) telephone extensions, IVR, and much more

  ### 4. Full Featured Phone System

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Terry R. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2022

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

FreePBX allows us to not only take calls while not in the office but also ties into our CRM software to let us know who is calling as well. No longer do we have to wait around for calls. We have the system deployed in the cloud so there is no need for us to keep a system or servers running as well as maintain the firewall permissions for the system. All we have to do is have a VOIP Phone available or use a VOIP mobile app to access the system.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

Although the system is very powerful and full of features, the interface is a little bit overwhelming. Also, the interface compared to others like 3CX feels more cluttered. In setting up it took a while to find the options and menus that I was looking for in the system.

**Recommendations to others considering FreePBX:**

If you are considering FreePBX, I would recommend finding a hosting provider to set it up on. Doing this fixed our firewall issues as well as the need for the server to be located in-house.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

FreePBX allows us to make calls while out of the office using our office phone lines. Gone are the times of having to block phone numbers on our cell phones so that we don't have customers calling our mobile phones instead of the office line. Also we can access our voicemail while out of the office as well as have it transcribed and sent via e-mail.

  ### 5. Powerful open source PBX based on Asterisk, must consider if SAAS is no-go

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Алексей . | Chief Technology Officer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 23, 2021

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

FreePBX is one of the simplest PBXes to install on-premise. You should consider it if SAAS PBXes are a no-go. Powerful security rules, comprehensive settings, many features that you will use, great extensibility

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

Of course, on-premise PBXes have some disadvantages. The first thing that you should know is that your connectivity must be reliable, or your communication will not be that great. Next, you should consider setting up proper backups. At last, some features of SAAS PBXes like fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) will not be available for you (at least not as easy as on SAAS PBXes)

**Recommendations to others considering FreePBX:**

You should know that if you are going to put FreePBX on your machine, it should have a stable power and network connectivity

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using FreePBX as our main office PBX, and it gives us an essential ability not to depend on one provider, so we can easily switch between them. Also, using some "VPN magic," we can communicate between our offices for free. We regularly use it in conferencing (not only between colleagues but also with our customers).

  ### 6. FreePBX with VOIP.MS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David L. | O, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2022

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

Inexpensive compared to other providers.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

Recently they experienced a DOS attack rendering the service inoperable. Fortunately, I had a secondary VOIP provider. I'm sure VOIP.MS has learned a lot from this attack and is better hardened. Having a provider experience this kind of unfortunate attack gives them the opportunity to re-evaluate their security. Doubt they will be in this position again. Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face. I believe VOIP.MS has a plan now.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Low cost VOIP for my home & home office. Easily integrated into my home automation system.

  ### 7. Free PBX

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

I love that I not only get my voicemails on my phone but by email as well.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

I can't set my voicemail message. At least, I have not figured out how.

**Recommendations to others considering FreePBX:**

I recommend Free PBX to anyone looking for telephone services. It meets all of my expectations and more!

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I no longer have to use my cell phone for work. It has cut down our telephone service costs by

  ### 8. FreePBX powers complex VoIP solutions without the complexity

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Benjamin M. | Activation Manager, Telecommunications, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2019

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

The custom programming and configuration options are limitless. Our company is powered by FreePBX and it's extensibility. I love that it's a cinch to install, and intuitive to configure from the graphical portal. It's truly powerful.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

The back-end functionality is fairly complex, but there's good documentation available via the official means as well as third-party resources.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making VoIP managed with ease. Registering phones, adjusting call flows, and managing the more complex details via GUI is a treat. We needed something to manage Asterisk and other VoIP-oriented programs, and this has been the key.

  ### 9. This is a feature to have to make sure you never lose a business call.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jacqueline E. | Administrative Assistant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2019

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

That you can change the forwarding phone number from anywhere.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

I haven't found anything really that I dislike yet.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to transfer after hours phones to anyone in case of an emergency is very helpful for employees and the business.

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

It’s a great solution if you’re an asterix newbie and need the flexibility provided by a self hosted pbx.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

The interface can be a little confusing. Unless you’re familiar with some of the voip terminology, that is.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy self hosted voip solution, but still offers the ability to dig right into the asterix if you’re an advanced user or have specific needs.

  ### 12. Review of FreePBX

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2019

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

The interface is too complicated for some employees to use, if it had a more user-friendly display that would help our part time & temporary employees.

Communication between agencies internally and externally is greatly helped with this product. We have observed increased communication across the board.

  ### 13. Good if You Know What to look for

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jared W. | Senior Project Analytics Specialist, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 13, 2018

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**

An incredible amount of options to choose from, at minimal costs. If you want your phones to do something, they probably have it.

**What do you dislike about FreePBX?**

On the other hand, the vast amount of customization can feel very overwhelming at times. It becomes harder to find common options.

**What problems is FreePBX solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing extensions becomes much easier.

  ### 14. Free open-source PBX system

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Gambling & Casinos | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about FreePBX?**
