On top of that, it balances no-code and low-code features nicely, allowing people to build useful automations without needing to write everything from scratch, while still giving advanced users the option to code where needed. I use n8n every single day and it has completely transformed how I automate workflows. However, I still miss two small features to achieve absolute automated happiness 😊

1. Management and saving of credentials

It would be very appreciated to be able to save the credentials either locally or on the network, in order to easily re-import them in case of server change, migration, or crash (which we obviously prefer to avoid, but you never know).

2. Organization of the canvas

I love workflows that breathe order and serenity. A feature allowing:

- to align a group of nodes vertically, horizontally (or both),

- and to set a regular spacing between the selected nodes (vertical or horizontal),

would make the canvas even more pleasant to use... and would greatly please fans of well-organized workflows, of which I am one 🙂 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

With n8n you can integrate pretty much any tool if there's an API available for it, I've integrated mutliple tools using it... for which I would've had to wait on developers otherwise.

Plus, you can connect multiple AI Models, and kind of bring in AI Agents in workflow, be it for research or task executions like Posting on Social Media, Newsletters etc.

And, you can find tons of workflow templates on their marketplace (plus, n8n being widely known, you can find tons of templates that can be implemented in your business e.g. AI Newsletter Creation, Automated Outreach, Social Media Posting etc.)

n8n stands out as one of the most dependable automation platforms I have worked with. Building workflows is simple, thanks to its intuitive user interface, and the self-hosting experience is robust. I operate it on Docker Swarm with several replicas and rolling updates, and upgrades have consistently gone smoothly with almost no downtime—even as AI agents and workflows continued to run. When dealing with complex workflows, debugging remains a time-consuming process. Tracing data as it moves through numerous nodes or runs is not always straightforward, and the error messages provided are often too generic to be truly helpful. Additionally, managing large workflows—such as handling versioning, reusing subflows, and maintaining readability—could use further refinement. Some of the newer AI-related features and nodes also seem less mature, often requiring additional tuning and the implementation of extra guardrails before they are ready for production use. The concept of orchestration, ease of use, and product intelligence: it supports without over-automating.

Workflows are now fully part of the IT environment. The ability to centralize, on a single interface, access to multiple services and specialized containers (in my case) is particularly powerful.

The readability of a workflow's progress, tracking the number of processed elements, error management, and the ability to inspect inputs/outputs at each step—even on workflows with more than twenty steps—make debugging and optimization truly enjoyable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

In my version (2.9.3), the sticky notes are not really "sticky" to the canvas, which slightly limits their usefulness.

n8n is an incredibly affordable automation tool with powerful capabilities. The self-deployment option on Hostinger Cloud is cost-effective and gives you complete control. The main drawback is the steep learning curve. Advanced workflow configuration requires understanding of JavaScript and data structures. Documentation could be more comprehensive for beginners. I like being able to drag and drop the nodes and modules without coding. You need to know how and where to insert the API's but workflows can be completed in a short time.

My membership expires in 2 days, and I wish I had the money to try another month to really get into it. So many things came up and I just didn't get the amount of time I wanted to dig in.

I also believe that it would be wise and beneficial to know this platform, regardless of what direction AI takes. It pays to know the inner workings of everything so it would be easier to troubleshoot.
