**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

At Empire Portfolio Group, we’ve been using Betterment for Work as our 401(k) provider, and the experience has been outstanding. As a company with a large number of young employees, we were looking for a retirement solution that was intuitive, low-cost, and built for long-term success. Betterment has delivered on all fronts.

One of the biggest advantages of Betterment is its ease of use and automation. Our team members appreciate the seamless onboarding, goal-based investing tools, and the ability to “set it and forget it” while knowing their money is being invested wisely. The platform’s emphasis on low-cost, diversified index funds aligns perfectly with our company’s commitment to financial wellness and smart investing.

The fees are transparent and minimal, which is a big win for our employees who are just starting to build their retirement savings. Betterment’s modern user interface, financial education resources, and personalized advice make it approachable for those who may be new to investing.

On the administrative side, Betterment has been simple and efficient to manage. Their customer service is responsive, and the integration with our payroll system makes everything from contributions to compliance seamless.

Overall, Betterment for Work has been a great fit for Empire Portfolio Group. It’s a solution that truly supports our team’s long-term financial health, and we’d highly recommend it to other companies looking for a modern, employee-first 401(k) option.

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The low fee structure and accessibility for users are what attracted us to Betterment originally, these continue to be strong points. Users report that information is easy to understand and generally there have not been problems on the employee side.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Customer support has been a struggle. Frequently initial inquiries are linked back to general articles on the website that are not helpful. We had a problem with our annual compilation and our initial support staff was totally incapable of handing the issue. They gave us 3 different answers that conflicted- at one point telling us we didn't even need to complete the compilation. It wasn't until I inquired about closing our account that we were elevated to a staff that seemed capable of addressing the issue. Once this person took over a solution was quickly implemented, but the answer was so different from what the initial agent said that we are left wondering what kind of training support receives. 
We had a similar issue happen with a staff that was incorrectly made eligible for benefits. Support was able to confirm that the employee's profile was set up correctly. And agreed that the eligibility had occurred in error, but the customer service technician said they had no information on how this could have happened and would follow up with the tech team. We never heard back.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment helped us increase participation in our retirement benefit. We attribute this largely to the ease and usability of the platform. Most of our staff work at or below the Median wage and don't typically see themselves as the people to have financial instruments. Betterment's user friendly approach is great for this demographic.

We're a small CPA firm and we all wear a lot of hats.  Betterment allows me as a busy owner handling all payroll & HR functions to worry less about our 401k administration function due to automated processes, communications & payroll integration.  The employees participating are happy with their 401ks and rarely (e.g. never so far!) reach out to me with any problems they found with the adminisitration.  Keeping the employees content makes my life so much easier!

We set up a 401K with Betterment in 2024 for my 12 employee office.  The process had support, a surprising amount of flexibility, and best of all very low overhead fees.  I could also pass those nominal fees off to staff to discourage inactivity.  I pay roughly 2k/yr to run everything, and their fund fees are also the lowest I could find.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Phone help can be hit or miss.  Typically initial concerns are replied to with automated responses.

They provide a low-overhead yet flexible 401K option for my teams.

As an administrator I have enjoyed the ease of use of the platform and the service needed. As a user I have loved the APP expereince and the diveristy of options with in the app. By having the company 401K , our employees now have ease access to other products that could assist them in growing wealth.

So far I have not found any issues in working with Betterment

The first thing I liked was the seamless setup, as new employees contribution changes are automatically synced. This is great because it eliminates the headaches of spreadsheets and computer errors that used to cause.

The user interface could be a little better to make it more intuitive, thats all.

Its really been a huge help because Betterment at Work is practically the upgrade our HR team needed, saving us hours of training, reducing compliance errors, and making the 401(k) an attractive benefit again.

As an HR department of one, having strong support is so important. Betterment's customer service is consistently responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. 

The platform itself is very user friendly for employees, which cuts down on questions and confusion. But knowing I have a reliable support team behind me makes a huge difference.

I've been very happy with our experience with Betterment and really can't say that I've run into any issues and had complaints in the 8 years we've used the platform.  I've noticed over the last couple of years they are marketing the learning resources they provide, and I would love to see more educational tools for users.

I appreciate how clean the system is, and I find it especially helpful that the data flow in our payroll system eliminates duplicate entries. This significantly reduces errors, which is a real relief at the end of the month. The platform is also very easy to use. These are the main reasons I liked using Betterment.

So far I can say that support for specific questions takes a little longer to scalate to an expert.

The most helpful part of betterment at work is how user friendly the website is. I’ve trained multiple employees on how to use the admin side and it is always extremely easy. If there ever is a question, the betterment team is pretty quick to reply and help.

It is very clean and sleek and the integration with payroll is seamless.    It is self explanatory and very easy to use.The communications are a nice touch and ensure that each person is well aware of the contributions.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There is a lot more work that needs to be done with 529 plans.  Not every state is available for direct connection to payroll and the ones that are seem to have higher processing fees.

Adding beneficiaries is not a requirement of enrollment and as such this data point is often overlooked and requires additional support behind it.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The user experience for every employee enrolled is transparent and easy to understand.  The education tools for our users is also an amazing resource.

I have really enjoyed how easy it has been to use betterment at work, compared to some other 401K websites this one has been easy to use. It has clear instructions that anyone can follow. It allows you to update and change things without any issues.

The downside of betterment is that it doesn't integrate with all payroll companies (but it does sound like it is moving towards full integration).

I love how user friendly it is from and employee standpoint. If I am unsure how to do something, it is very easy to email support for help. Our employees love betterment because they can view everything in an app. They like how much control they have over their investments.

Not all functions can be performed in the app.

The problems we have most often is employees needing to move or withdraw funds. I can email support and get help quickly.

I find that using Betterment to support our organization has been completely intuitive and simple. It integrates with our HRIS (Gusto) seamlessly and I never have to think about if new employees are setup for success or not; they just are.

Nothing comes to mind. I haven't noticed anything about Betterment at Work that has been challenging so far.

We use Betterment to manage our 401K offering for our employees, as well as manage our employer match across all employees on an annual basis. The fact that I don't have to manage those calculations myself, and that our employees don't have to fumble around trying to understand their 401k is a huge benefit to our organization.

The people i worked with to onboard and set up the plan were extremely easy to work with and made the process as smooth as could be. Anytime i contact customer support i get a detailed answer within 24 hours.  The price was also much cheaper than competitors.

Nothing comes to mind.  They are cheaper than the competition and also provide every service we needed.

Betterment At Work is performing so much better than our previous provider.  The website is easy to use.  Having the website send employees an enrollment invitation via email and allowing them to self-enroll has saved HR a lot of time.  Our assigned Success Manager is very knowledgeable and helpful.  The plan's investment offerings are diverse and are performing well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

While there are many reports available, I can't always get what I need in one report.   Often times I have to run several reports in order to get the specific data that I am needing.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The employee's self-enrollment and management of their own account saves HR Department's time.  The resources on the website are helpful.

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

1.  Great menu of investment choices with low expense ratios for employees.  

2.  Nice clean user interface.

3.  Provides multiple options for investment planning based to match the sophistication of the employee (i.e., can be more or less detailed).  Turnkey for novice users.  More detailed for sophisticated users.

4.  It was easy to integrate with our payroll platform (Rippling and then Gusto)

5.  Streamlines the annual compliance and reporting processes for the plan administrator.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

To my knowledge, it does not offer easy download or integration with with personal finance software such as Quicken.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1.  Very reasonably priced offering for us as a small business.
2.  Investment options are much better than other plans I interacted with while working at larger companies.  Ultimately this is better financially for our employees.
3.  Consumer friendly user interface helps with rate of employee participation.

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's overall a great product and can largely be automated once set up. We have it connected to our payroll, and it automatically enrolls new team members, sets up their accounts, and takes care of all the payroll processing. All very smooth.
For employees, they have an excellent selection of low-cost ETF.  The predefined portfolios can be adjusted manually, if desired. App for the employees is also great, and they can user other services like IRA or Roth, incl. more complex features like backdoor Roth conversions
Customer support is responsive and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The annual testing and getting the fidelity bond still require some manual work (even though only once a year). The only other downside is cost as the percentage fee of the managed amounts grows steadily as employees contribute. I wish there were tiers of decreased fees for higher balances.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We set up our 401k about 7 years ago, and the main benefit is that it is largely automated and provides peace of mind that we are compliant with all the complex regulations.

The various options and features my staff has access to when it comes to financial planning for themselves. It's an easy to use platform, implementing and integrating with other platforms  for my staff was simple, and I login multiple times a week.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Response time through Support is slow. Would like it to be much faster of a response time.

It's providing me a 401k option to my staff, while also educating them on financial planning best practices.

Their website is very user-friendly, which is great since we have so many employees and multiple entities. I also appreciate they have webinars every quarter to help you stay up to date on what's happening with employees' investments.

Honestly I don't have an answer for this! Though I will say I'm not our office's most primary user, and we're new to Betterment this year. But so far, so good from my experience. I do with it integrated with our payroll software, but I think that's more an issue with our payroll company than with Betterment.

It helps us easily manage and track everyone's 401k. I love that it's so easy to use!

Simple to setup and manage on a bi-weekly basis. Wished it fully integrated with all the major payroll vendors but we've moved to Paychex and it is great now. Also, as a participant, I am very happy with the simplicity of reporting, the cash account, ability to move money around, etc.

Nothing more than the issue with not integrating with my old payroll vendor.

The set up was very easy. Betterment had a great on boarding team that was helpful, knowledgeable and listened to my concerns and questions and answered all of them. I also like the dashboard and ease of adjusting investment portfolio.

My only complaint would be the way we set up the initial rollout of betterment with our employees.  We opted in employees to maximize participation which upset some of the employees.

We finally got almost all the employees saving.  Before I took over the company, they did not have a 401K plan.  I was told that they tried to do it before and no one participated.  We are at 1 year and I couldn't be happier with the participation rate and the employees are happy.

Betterment gives employees options with ways to invest to meet their financial objectives. It allowed us to go from a one-size-fits-all approach for our workplace to a platform that gave people choices with their money. Whether it's a 401(k), a Roth IRA, or an education plan, Betterment lets people choose where their money goes.

Change is hard, and some transitions are difficult. While the onboarding process was pretty smooth, we are still working out some kinks with integration.

Betterment at Work gave us an opportunity to evaluate our benefits package that we offer to employees and offer a plan that they can tailor to their needs. It has helped improve employee satisfaction and has made all of our staff more conscious of their options.
