## Morningstar Direct Reviews
 ### 1. Morningstar Makes Portfolio X-Ray Fast, Credible, and Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gina H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The Morningstar platform helps me evaluate clients current portfolios so I can provide feedback as to where the new portfolio will help them achieve their financial goals. Love how the portfolio provides the x-ray update on the portfolio and it gives credibility to the client I am speaking with.
It is easy to use and can usually find information within minutes.
In addition the daily articles are on top of current events and helps me stay informed.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Where I would like to see improvement on Direct is in the search bar. When I am looking for a sector or ESG or other specialty type investment, the search bar is not useful.
Also would like more portfolios to build out, I believe it limits the count to 20 or 25 today.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The site provides credibility to my recommendations for my clients. In addition, it keeps me on top of trends or highlighting sectors or ETFs I should be thinking about for my clients.

 ### 2. Intuitive Platform with Powerful Portfolio Analysis and Great Value

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John M. | Managing Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I really like how easy the platform is to use. I use it daily, and it feels more intuitive each time. Morningstar’s tools let us run portfolio analysis and compare different asset classes. Overall, it has been an excellent fit for our data management needs and provides great value for money for our company.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I have nothing negative to say. Customer service is their greatest strength—there’s always someone available to answer my calls or emails and help resolve any issues I have.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform has become a valuable part of our investment management operations, and at this point we really couldn’t function without it. It delivers independent, data-driven insights that help streamline data collection, research, and reporting, making the overall workflow much smoother. In my day-to-day work, it saves a considerable amount of time.

 ### 3. Robust Platform with Flexible Commission Structure and Fast Reporting

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paolo B. | Digital Marketing Department, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I really like the tax optimization tool, and the platform feels very robust overall. It offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to the commission structure, and the clean, clear design makes it easy to navigate and use. I also love the quick report-generation features, which help me pull together and present the necessary information without hassle.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

It requires numerous manual configurations, and sometimes the data doesn’t transfer correctly. Generating the proposal can also take a considerable amount of time.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The visual format of the data improves customer interaction and helps us bring everything together into a coherent view. It also makes it easier for us to engage with clients and manage our interactions with investment accounts. The audit features further support this by allowing us to visualize the information clearly.

 ### 4. Powerful Billing Tools with a Clean, Intuitive Dashboard

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leonti B. | General Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I find the billing tools extremely helpful across the board. The detailed historical data is invaluable for reviewing past activity and informing decisions. I appreciate that we can create planning features for clients, and the suite of applications feels comprehensive. The dashboard is clean and quite intuitive, which makes it easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I wish it were more intuitive overall. Learning all the functions can be difficult, and I'd like to see faster integration. Sometimes it feels overly complex, and the lack of customization is also an ongoing issue.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me optimize processes and save time. The system tracks account funds and operates more efficiently to meet my needs, managing data effectively while providing a clear process for completing tasks. Together, these features help me streamline my workflow.

 ### 5. Comprehensive Insights but Frequent Glitches

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Grace H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like how I can run reports and performance reports really easily, and a lot of times it'll come up in conversation when an advisor or client wants something to look at quickly. It's nice that I can just pull it up and also compare our model portfolios on how they are constructed today versus how they were constructed in the past. Morningstar Direct makes it quick and easy to find out underlying details, which is great for when we have new clients with a bunch of holdings. I can import their existing portfolios and categorize everything by asset class, helping me transition it to one of our portfolios.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

A lot of the times, there's errors going on. Even though I use it for performance reporting a lot. The alternatives, whether it's product equity, part of real estate, infrastructure, or private credit are really delayed to get reported on. So it's usually not accurate even if it's saying it is. And there's just often glitches. So it crashes a lot. I'll be running a report or something, and it'll completely crash out or the screen will go blank. Specifically in presentation studio, it could take forever to load and refresh.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct makes it quick and easy to find underlying details for mutual funds, ETFs, and equities. It helps import and categorize client portfolios by asset class and transition them to our portfolios. Running and comparing performance reports is also really easy.

 ### 6. Comprehensive Data, Easy Setup, Needs UI Enhancements

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aldo Arcanian D. | Market Research Consultant, Mutual Funds, Wealth Management, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the speed of calculations and the comprehensiveness of the data in Morningstar Direct. It's great that there are a large number of fields available, making it easy to create and export reports. I also appreciate the ability to schedule reports. The initial setup was very easy for me, and I like that no admin access is required to set up and update.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I can't use the same fund/ETF in multiple groups in performance reports. I also can't schedule reports outside of performance reporting. The presentation studio is clunky and the design is confusing, making the data points difficult to figure out. Some tabs could use a cleaner interface, and I wish there was autocomplete for field searches. It would be great to have more data points available in the Excel plug-in.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for performance analysis, creating custom benchmarks, and centralizing data. It speeds up calculations, offers comprehensive data, and makes report creation and export easy.

 ### 7. Data-Driven Powerhouse with Clunky Software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I really like the gigantic amount of back data available with Morningstar Direct, which is the biggest advantage for me. Through its API, I'm able to do pretty high-level data analysis and test hypotheses.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The software itself is quite slow and clunky. The online version does not solve for this. Because in browser is not as good as an application. There is no Mac version of the app, which is a huge issue. Because Macs have better computational power and the client service team is largely undertrained. The biggest problem and this continues to be a problem, is that the customer service team is largely unaware of what capabilities already exist on the platform. So I've had to do pretty much all my own guess and check and personal training.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for managing portfolios and performing investment analysis. It provides access to vast data, backtesting capabilities, and an API for building dashboards, making high-level data analysis and hypothesis testing easy.

 ### 8. Powerful Mutual Fund Research with Excellent Data Access and Search

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Access to data and the search function within Direct to best narrow down mutual Fund searches and performance data. The ability for us as a firm to do mutual fund research to better understand the performance of a Fund is second only to asking the managers outright, which is not always feasible.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Lack of integration with AI tools and models. The also lack of consistent bond data makes it a lot of harder to utilize the tool for our entire suite of holdings. I would also love a better way of creating charts or visuals for client use presentations.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Direct is solving the problem of organizing and having all of the performance data in one place for the client presentations and also allowing us to search for alternative Funds and to do research on our current allocations. It is also benefiting us with keeping our models organized and tracking performance.

 ### 9. Comprehensive Data and Tools, But Sluggish Performance At Times

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar offers an extensive range of holdings and performance data. Additionally, it provides tools to interact with this information using the Presentation Center.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

While Morningstar is capable of handling almost any task, it often lacks speed. The system can be sluggish at times, and I find it somewhat cumbersome when trying to manipulate the data the way I want.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct enables me to take a comprehensive approach when analyzing client portfolios, allowing me to evaluate both performance and risk statistics. It also gives me the ability to model proposed changes to a portfolio and clearly show clients how these recommendations could affect their investments.

 ### 10. Good software

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Puneet J. | Associate Professor of Finance, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 23, 2024

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I think the move towards a web interface for many aspects is helpful for Mac users like me.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

1. Longer Customer Service hours or a few hours over the weekend. I often find myself using the after-hours and wanting help.
2. Perhaps I don't know how to do this, but a faster way of finding PDFs of reports (esp. Primers). The search feature should be more specific.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Evaulating securities worth investing in

 ### 11. Near Real-Time Data Visibility That Makes Managing Datasets Easier

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle B. | Sr. Manager - IT Product Management, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I love being able to see the data in (near) real time while I'm managing datasets in the workspace.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The data can load a bit slowly sometimes. Sometimes I wish there were comprehensive packages of the most relevant data for an asset class so that I can browse more easily.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes Morningstar's broad datasets visible and actionable. I'm able to quickly find the information I want, now that I've gotten a feel for how to query data points. If I wasn't a savvy searcher, I imagine it would be rather cumbersome.

 ### 12. Independent Insights, Needs Better Portfolio Monitoring

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pushpam J.

**Reviewed Date:** February 06, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I appreciate that Morningstar Direct is an independent platform providing unbiased opinions, which I highly value. I use it almost weekly, sometimes more frequently, for everything from research to portfolio tracking. The screening tool for stocks, ETFs, and funds, as well as the folio tracking support, are features I value. The platform is great for all things investing, such as screening, tracking investments, and understanding markets. Setting it up was very easy. I'd say the portfolio tracking feature is among the most robust I've seen.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I find the portfolio monitoring function could be much better since it's missing a lot of robust features. It starts to not function well, especially with larger or older portfolios. It has severe limitations on the number of positions, how long you can track it for, and it seems very buggy, particularly with manual portfolios.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for everything related to investing, from screening and tracking investments to understanding the markets.

 ### 13. Powerful Research Tool Marred by Data Inconsistencies & Software Issues

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley G.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I most specifically like how you can save workspaces to create almost personalized dashboards for the data I need to use consistently. It saves me a lot of time from having to consistently build these each day.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The data quality is iffy at best. We often find numbers that don't make sense, missing data points or things that we flat out disagree with. There are often data points that are wrong. Recently we have had portfolio manager listing mistakes that have caused us to unnecessarily write reports, Sustainalytics data points that are incorrect and cause us to deviate from our firm's stated processes, and data points that we just have to delete because they are clearly mistaken, creating issues in our quantitative processes. We also frequently run into tools that don't work, consistent software crashes, and other issues that make Morningstar a significant pain point in our workflow.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct primarily for fund research, analyzing, and tracking performance. It gives me access to more data than public fund websites, and I like saving workspaces to create personalized dashboards, saving time daily.

 ### 14. Versatile Yet Inconsistent Data Platform

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brad S.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I think it's probably the add-in. That's frankly what we use it the most for or what I use it the most for. It allows me to put together various things regarding our investment analysis. Once I open an Excel file, if I build it correctly, it just updates itself. I also use it for graphs and materials for our quarterly correspondence with clients. It helps me customize things; I use a lot of ideas that other people have but make my own tweaks, so I'm not just copying and pasting from other people's reports. Typically, the data I need is also in Morningstar.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

It seems like there are times when the data is missing or doesn't update in a timely fashion, and it feels like unless we alert Morningstar, nobody realizes it. It's odd that there's not some trigger that gets tripped when something doesn't update by a particular time. I've also had issues with a data point that we've been using for nine years which just went away without any real advanced notice. The only reason we stayed with Morningstar was because of the cost and the fact that everything was already built out. Also, when I tried to contact our relationship manager, I reached out three different times and heard nothing. That's frustrating, especially when they're accusing us of something that's not in our contract and expecting us to respond within a certain time period without responding back to us.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Morningstar Direct pulls all data into Excel, allowing flexible, customized analysis and seamless updates for investment analysis and client materials.

 ### 15. Deep, Consistent Data and Powerful Tools That Streamline Investment Research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Austin B. | Institutional Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The most helpful aspect of Morningstar Direct is the depth and consistency of its investment data combined with powerful analysis tools in one platform. It allows me to efficiently research funds, ETFs, and managers using standardized performance, risk, and attribution metrics, which makes comparisons clear and reliable. The ability to customize reports, screen investments based on precise criteria, and access long‑term historical data significantly improves both due diligence and client‑facing analysis. Overall, Morningstar Direct helps streamline research workflows and supports more confident, well‑supported investment decisions.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The least helpful aspect of Morningstar Direct is that it can feel complex and unintuitive, especially for less frequent users. The platform has a steep learning curve, and some features require multiple steps or prior familiarity to use efficiently. Additionally, customization and report building can be time‑consuming. While the depth of data is a strength, navigating and extracting insights quickly can sometimes be cumbersome compared to more streamlined tools.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct helps solve the challenge of conducting thorough, consistent investment research and due diligence at scale. It centralizes high‑quality performance, risk, holdings, and manager data, which reduces time spent gathering information from multiple sources and improves the consistency of analysis. The platform supports portfolio construction, fund comparisons, and ongoing monitoring, enabling better‑informed investment decisions and more efficient client reporting. Overall, it helps streamline research workflows while increasing confidence in recommendations and portfolio oversight.

 ### 16. Powerful Data Access with a Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William Cole M. | Research Analyst

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Direct has all the data in one place, which reassures me that work will take less time with fewer moving parts. I value the customizability of the data and reports, as being able to change the format, time periods, and measurement periods is always necessary. The Excel Add-In brings access to Morningstar Direct to my entire firm and provides ease of access to the data found there in a more user-friendly way than Direct itself.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The user interface looks old and intimidating. It is not always clear what module will be required to obtain what I'm looking for. It's difficult to search for anything because a single difference in naming convention will result in no relevant results. It's not always clear if the data is available or up to date, leading to long waits for calculations that might end in errors or outdated results. The presentation studio is extremely hard to use and customize. Sometimes entire IDs break and return a different index than expected (without telling you). Having to log into the Excel Add-In every day is annoying. Even when I'm logged into Direct, I'm prompted multiple times to sign back in, although closing the prompt works too.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct centralizes data access, reducing time and frustration. Its Excel Add-In simplifies firm-wide data use in a user-friendly way, and customizability allows me to adjust data and time periods flexibly.

 ### 17. Excel Integration Saves Time, Needs Improved Stability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maclaine R.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I find Morningstar Direct easy to use and intuitive. The Excel plugin is what I like most because it allows me to directly connect to Morningstar Direct from Excel, which is a huge time saver. The plugin lets me create formulas and data feeds that connect seamlessly, enabling me to easily refresh my Excel files with the latest data every month. This feature saves me significant time since I don't have to manually source the data every time.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I think adding more templates or making it easier to create formulas in the Excel plugin would be great. Additionally, the new Direct can be glitchy at times so I find myself switching back to the old one when running performance reports.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct to pull performance data and create models. It provides easy access to data and saves time by reducing manual Excel work. The Direct app is intuitive and easy to use for the most part.

 ### 18. Unmatched Fund Data Depth with Strong Tables, Graphs, and Charts

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar has the most complete dataset of any provider on mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs. they also have a solid library of hedge funds and are expanding successfully into interval fund data. There is no valid competitor in terms of data availability and they are on par with peers in the ability to illustrate the data in tables, graphs, and charts.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar's UI definitely needs to be updated and the cloud rollout seems to have struggled to match the capabilities of the desktop client which I still use. It is not as friendly as it should be in the modern age. Upgrading the UI and making some of the features such as portfolio/account imports would make the software infinitely better.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar helps me search for, analyze, and graphically illustrate strategies across ETFs, mutual funds, and SMAs. it also helps me analyze portfolios for prospects and clients to determine positioning and risk exposures that are intended and unintended.

 ### 19. Essential for Smart Investment Decisions

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** H M.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the price to fair market value estimate ratio for ETF portfolios. The Morningstar 9-box benchmark style index is helpful for deciding where to allocate regular investment contributions through dollar cost averaging. Also, the initial setup of Morningstar Direct was easy.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

There are so many indexes and they can be confusing. It would be helpful to know if iShares Morningstar ETFs are designed to track those underlying indices. I noticed that in portfolio price/value ratio and ETF fair value estimates are not available for the iShares ETFs that track Morningstar style box indices. Historical fair value estimate that goes back more than 1 year would be helpful. Longitudinal fair value estimate versus ETF portfolio price shown over time would be helpful.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct to find investment funds and identify undervalued stocks for my portfolio. It helps me decide fund allocations through its 9-box index and understand ETF fair value estimates, though I wish it had longer historical data.

 ### 20. Powerful Data Insights, Needs Search Flexibility

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Drew R.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the access to information that Morningstar Direct provides. The new advanced search features are really strong, making it easy to identify specific trends in a user-friendly way. I also find it convenient to export data to Excel, and I love that I can toggle things directly in Morningstar before exporting. The initial setup was very easy, and the team was very helpful with setting up meetings whenever I had questions.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The search features are still a bit hard to work with. For example, I was recently trying to search for AUM, which was labeled 'fund size'. I had to look through every option to arrive at fund size. It would be nice if fund size came up when I searched AUM or assets.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for analyzing ETFs, identifying trends like flows and new launches. It helps us create sales materials. The advanced search is strong, and exporting to Excel is easy. It allows me to identify specific trends in a user-friendly way.

 ### 21. Comprehensive Insights, Ideal for Serious Investors

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Guang (George) L. | Financial Advisor

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like Morningstar Direct for its investment ideas, especially the five-star ratings and moat ratings, which are very valuable for understanding the value and durability of the competitiveness of the companies I invest in. I also appreciate the style and size box, a three by three matrix, which helps me understand the currents of the market. This matrix is organized by value versus growth and the size of the companies, providing a better understanding of what's happening in different parts of the market.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I would like to see more companies get covered, especially smaller companies. Morningstar Direct focuses on large companies, which is understandable, but I think there are investment opportunities in smaller companies.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for researching company stocks and understanding market subcurrents. It matches my investment approach with a discounted cash flow method and provides valuable insights through dedicated analysts who understand industry specifics.

 ### 22. Expansive Data and Customizability, Needs UI Improvements - Great tool but room for improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Misael M.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I really like how expansive Morningstar Direct is in terms of data and customizability. It helps with researching various different types of investments and getting multiple perspectives on Morningstar's platform. It's also helpful to filter and sort by data that is relevant to me.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Some things that don't work so well include laggy/slow feedback of navigating the system, confusing/complicated interface, or certain bugs/quirks when working inside of Presentation Studio. For example, when searching for an investment, the system automatically updates the search with every new letter added to the query. I would think it would let you add the query first and then let you hit search to do so.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for consistent and reliable data sets in investment analysis. It helps research diverse investments, offers multiple perspectives, and lets me filter and sort data relevant to me.

 ### 23. Robust Legacy Tools, But Persistent Bugs and Poor Support Hold Back Progress

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aaron B. | Head of Asset Manager Research, and Portfolio Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The legacy tools are strong and we have grown accustomed to navigating modules to support our research process. The program has tremendous amount of info across mutual funds, ETFs, and also SMAs where the latter universe was lacking years ago. They do introduce some good new features that sometimes fly under the radar w/o being promoted.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Obviously important datapoints like "firm total assets" are left unpopulated while other worthless datapoints are expanded and made more prominent. The Tech is also prone to bugs and many issues have been persistent over 10+ years. New tools are introduced in half-assed way while trying to force people into new U/I sometimes that is less functional than old U/I. Customer support is terrible and needs to be dramatically improved ASAP.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us conduct quantitative analysis of investment managers. It is also useful for portfolio management as we have our model portfolios built into the program.

 ### 24. Powerful Data & Visualization, Helpful Customer Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Milo P. | Associate Investment & Retirement Research Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar Direct is quite useful for handling various daily office tasks. I appreciate its ability to aggregate data, compare funds, and easily create presentation materials. One of Morningstar's main strengths is its comprehensive data coverage across a wide range of open-end funds, ETFs, and investment strategies. It excels at comparing mandates, analyzing holdings strategies, and presenting information through its diverse visualization tools. The asset allocation feature is also valuable, as it helps identify the optimal allocation based on the investment universe you provide. Additionally, their client success team offers helpful and responsive support whenever I have questions or need guidance.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar Direct has several areas where I hope to see improvement. In particular, I find the search criteria could be better organized; with so many options available, it can be difficult to locate exactly what you need. Additionally, the older version of the app includes some features that feel outdated and are not very user-friendly, while the newer interface, although more modern, sometimes lacks certain functionalities. This means I often have to switch between versions to complete my tasks. Despite these issues, I believe most of the drawbacks are things that could be addressed through future updates.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar addresses several key needs for us, including enabling manager performance comparisons and category rankings. It also assists in creating visualizations that are useful for presentations. Additionally, Morningstar supplies risk metrics and data that support our managers, and it plays a role in shaping our capital market assumptions.

 ### 25. Essential Portfolio Tool with Some Minor Issues

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elias S. | Investment Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Morningstar is really helpful for looking up mutual funds and ETFs, which is a core part of our business. I really like the excel plug in, that is really helpful for our day-to-day functions. Our team uses it almost daily to review our portfolios. The access to information is also great. The Monte Carlo simulations are also very nice to have, and we use them from time to time as a gut check.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Having to sign in multiple times in an hour is extremely frustrating. It only takes a few seconds but that's a few seconds I didn't want to be signing in for the 3rd time. Sometimes there is a lack of data in certain areas, like returns of specific securities. It's also slightly frustrating that there isn't a guide to how the excel functions work, because most of my issues in excel are figuring out how the formulas work, and there isn't really a clear guide. (If there is I haven't found it).

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Ease of access. Without it we would probably have to invest a lot more time in digging through various fund literature to find good funds. Morningstar definitely shortens that process. Helps us find several funds we'd like to implement in our portfolios in one afternoon, instead of the process taking weeks to acheive.

 ### 26. Comprehensive Data, Slightly Confusing Setup

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy Juyoung C.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the diverse data points that Morningstar Direct offers and its good measures of returns for each fund. As a researcher, I need various different types of variables with less error, and I think that Morningstar Direct does a great job in providing good quality data.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I wish the data points that were time series would increase so that I am able to keep track of the historical performance of funds and as well as managerial data needs to be improved. The initial setup was confusing at first but it was okay.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for data collection. It gives me fine grain data and diverse data points with good measures of returns for funds. As a researcher, I appreciate the various variables with less error, providing high-quality data.

 ### 27. Essential Tool for Unbiased Fund Evaluation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** William A. A. | Director - Financial Advisor

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the one-page PDF that Morningstar Direct offers for each investment, as it shows fifteen years of performance, which is very helpful. The relative benchmark index performance is also beneficial. It's laid out in a way that I'm familiar with, similar to the old value lines, and I find it easy to see how funds and their similar investments performed during up and down markets.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I feel like a more timely update from the Morningstar staff on their evaluations would be more helpful. It seems to be spotty. Some funds get two or three evaluations a year, others get maybe one.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct helps me evaluate funds and ETFs among holdings in a non-biased way, focusing on long-term returns to find the best options for clients.

 ### 28. Powerful Reports but Needs User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Declan C.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I use Morningstar Direct for fund research, attribution, and custom portfolio analysis for prospective clients. It helps me learn more about funds and all details about their investments and process. The Presentation Studio is very helpful in creating powerful reports, allowing me to generate risk return reports that include all the metrics I care about. The initial setup was easy.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I find the data reception inconsistent and the UI difficult to navigate. It would be great if the interface were more user-friendly, especially for tasks like searching for products, sorting, and incorporating data across databases. These should be straightforward if anyone was paying attention.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for fund research, learning about investments and processes, and generating custom reports with all necessary metrics.

 ### 29. Easy-to-Use Format for Analyzing a Variety of Investments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael V. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The format is easy to use and helps me analyze a variety of investments.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Not really any that I can think of. I like all of the aspects of the software.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me cut through some of the noise involved in my analysis of investment products and reduces the time I spend on this task.

 ### 30. Strong Functionality and Data, But Presentation Studio Needs More Flexibility

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sam C. | Investment Analyst & Senior Trader, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Wide range of functionality and availability of data. Decent customization of outputs

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I wish there was some more customizable functionality with presentation studio, allowing for additional changes or conditional formatting, such as making negative numbers red or changing single cell sizes. Also would be nice to have the ability to upload multiple spreadsheets into direct rather than have to go one by one

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows for us to create in depth reports for clients and compare potential investments or strategies

 ### 31. Overall Positive, Would Like to See Improvement in the Future

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I've been in this role for six months and it's my first time using the service. Overall, I enjoy it and find it helpful. Could be a little easier to navigate. I use it daily to weekly, really just depends on the time of the quarter. Our customer rep is Matt is always helpful.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Sometimes it can be a little slow, or data won't pull through one day but will the next. So maybe some consistency. Presentation Studio can take a long time for the requested data to load.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We do analysis on money managers, so the profiles MorningStar does is very help as well as the portfolio holding analysis we use to evaluate positioning is crucial to our role.

 ### 32. Comprehensive Data and Stellar Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dagmar N.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I love the breadth of data that Morningstar Direct offers. Once you know the tools, it's fairly easy to use. I really like the customer support because it's very easy to access, the team is highly knowledgeable, and they always follow up. I also appreciate some of the existing reports and the flexibility to change them based on my needs.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Sometimes it is really hard to find a particular fund or benchmark. Also some data is not available based on the level of subscription. It would be great if certain indices could be purchased individually rather than in bulk.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct to access data in a consistent format, which is essential for my research and analysis.

 ### 33. Easy to Use, Quick to Implement, and Backed by Fantastic Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eugene D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I truly enjoy the ease of use and easy implementation. I've received fantastic customer support. I use it frequently.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

There is nothing about this I dislike in any way. It is truly great.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar takes away the burden of building the portfolio myself. My true job is to be a relationship manager.

 ### 34. Comprehensive Fund Analysis with Room for Enhancements

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brett S.

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like that Morningstar Direct includes the entire universe for comparison and offers multiple tools. I can set up templates for comparisons and save them, which is handy, especially across different categories. The initial setup was easy for me because I used it at a prior employer.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I wish there was a better way to use rolling returns. In the scorecard, for example, I would like to implement rolling batting average.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct gives me access to crucial data for fund risk return and characteristics analysis. I appreciate comparing strategies, having the entire universe to compare, and using multiple tools. I can set up and save templates for different categories, improving my research efficiency.

 ### 35. Learning curve is steep and there's little on-hands help.

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Boris W. | Director of Investments, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

It has a lot of flexibility to manipulate data

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Support isn't instant - you can't get a quick reply on how to do something so your work is delayed and it's a complicated package so you run into this often. Also there's no team that will do something for you on creation - they won't give you say a template to kickstart your work or anything.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It hasn't solved for much yet as I'm trying to track models and properly report on them. The incremental support and lack of how-to help makes it very tedious. If this was a cheap product, perhaps I'd understand. The 'newer' version you can click on seems better but loses functionality - so even the trainers basically don't use it. Are they getting somewhere with this?!

 ### 36. Great Support, But UI Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ethan D.

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I find the support provided by Morningstar Direct to be very good. I value the league charts and workspace, as they allow me to view a lot of information on how asset managers compare and to create custom lists. The initial setup was very easy for me.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The UI is clunky and a bit confusing -- I'd be lost without support. I think it could be improved by making categories less confusing and adding descriptors to everything.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for pulling tough data on asset managers, solving difficulties in finding information. The league charts and workspace let me compare asset managers and create customized lists, enhancing my work. The support is very good too.

 ### 37. Flexible, Multi-Platform, and Excellent Customer Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Drew A. | Financial Analyst

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like the flexibility of Morningstar Direct as it allows us to use the tools via downloaded software, add-ins for tools like MS Excel, and the newer online portal that lets us use Direct through a browser. I also appreciate the hands-on help that the customer support teams provide. We enjoy the Jupyter notebook feature because coding is becoming an important competency, enabling everyday investors to combine large language model (LLM) use with their job responsibilities. The setup was very easy, and the cross-platform capability along with more support is beneficial.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

nothing in particular.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for capital market assumptions and running asset allocation scenarios, solving investment allocation questions aligned with trust goals.

 ### 38. Powerful Investment Research Tools with Insightful Morningstar Medalist Ratings

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shane V. | Associate Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Useful tools for researching and analyzing potential diversified investments. Proprietary tools, such as Morningstar Medalist ratings, can help determine which investments are likely to outperform.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

It’s difficult to use with a class of students. The support team is often slow to respond, and when they do, the help isn’t always useful.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct in my Applied Portfolio Management course to give students hands-on experience with a real-world, commonly used service in the financial services industry.

 ### 39. Effortless Fund Analysis with Minor Date Setup Flaw

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda M.

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like using Morningstar Direct for its presentation studio, which stands out to me. The table option for multi-investment performance is particularly useful. I find it easy to compare funds to the benchmark and peer groups. The initial setup was super easy, which I appreciate.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Sometimes I have issues changing the start date from '5 years ago'. I think that stats shouldn't auto default in Presentation Studio to a 5-year time frame, and the user should be prompted to select the time range before the data is run.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Morningstar Direct for stats and returns on mutual funds and stocks, which help in my research by allowing comparison with benchmarks and peer groups.

 ### 40. Versatile Tool for Fund Analysis, Requires Naming Consistency Improvements

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter B.

**Reviewed Date:** February 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like that I can perform a wide range of functions within the software. Morningstar helps us to evaluate a wide range of fund strategies in one software location. I also appreciate their vast dataset of fund performance metrics.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The naming convention of data sets is extremely inconsistent and cumbersome to work with. Market indices, for example, are often abbreviated in various ways, making it extremely difficult to search and locate specific ones, without having known how Morningstar decided to abbreviate certain words within the name.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct provides access to a vast dataset of fund performance metrics and helps evaluate a range of fund strategies in one software location.

 ### 41. Flexible and Easy to Adopt for New Users

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

Flexibility in use and adaptability for first time and new users

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Not much, would like to see more integrations in the tool itself.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quick analysis and overall ease of use in managing softwares and cutting them down to 1 tool instead of many

 ### 42. Comprehensive Analysis Tool with Responsive Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jake B.

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I have been greatly benefited in my professional role due to Morningstar Direct's exceptional reporting functions, which are unparalleled in my experience. The platform's superior analysis, compared to others like YCharts, significantly enhances my work. I particularly appreciate being able to upload client portfolios and perform a comprehensive X-ray analysis, which provides valuable insights. I absolutely love the Presentation Studio and the ability to run custom reports, which adds another layer of utility and professionalism to my outputs. The analysis and the updated charts and outlooks from analysts in Direct Compass are invaluable for staying current; they are up-to-date and highly useful. Additionally, I'm very impressed with the responsiveness and timely responses from customer service, which makes problem-solving much more manageable. I found the onboarding process very easy, with the representative answering all my questions kindly, facilitating a smooth transition to using the platform effectively.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I encounter delays and loading issues occasionally, which can disrupt my workflow. Currently, I am unable to download newsletters in Direct Compass, which is frustrating. Additionally, I feel the process of uploading portfolios could be simplified; I wish the system could scan statements to upload holdings and tickers automatically.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct helps with stock analysis, performance reports, due diligence, and provides excellent reporting functions. Its x-ray analysis of client portfolios and presentation studio enhance my job performance. The updated analysis and customer service are also notable benefits.

 ### 43. Great Data Breadth and Helpful AI Chat, but Some Features Are Dataset-Limited

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Greg P. | Manager, Investment Product Development, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The breadth of data is great. The usability is much improved in the new version and the AI chat feature is quite helpful.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Some of the core features are limited to certain data sets.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting competitor data quickly and straightforward

 ### 44. Great Mutual Fund & Separate Account Hub, but Limited Bond Holdings Analysis

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Investment Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

It has information on open, close and separate account strategies, all in one place with detailed information on all of them. In addition to this there is stock research and analysis, economic insights, webinars and whole bunch of tools making it a one stop shop for all things related to mutual funds and separate account analysis

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

There is not much analysis one can do with client's individual bond account holdings.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All the data for comparing your strategy vs peers and indexes is easily available. One can drill down to the holdings level and see what is dragging or contributing to performance vs peers

 ### 45. Poweful but not used to its full potential

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeppe C. | Industry Research Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The flexibility in gathering data. Especially that the data can be tailored specifically to the currency and timeframe I'm looking for. Though not all data is available, I can usually find the data I need. It's also great that Direct can be accessed both through the desktop application, and via a browser.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The desktop platform does not seem very intuitive, and I have a feeling that we are not using the platform to its full potential. Whilst the platform is great for gathering data on most funds, there are funds I cannot find information on. The data available on bonds also seems limited, so when we try to analyze a portfolio that includes bonds, we may not get the full picture of the portfolio. Selecting the specific data I'm looking for can also be a bit difficult if I don't know what naming convention Morningstar is using. Looking through the categories, there are often hundreds of different data types, and scrolling through them to find the one I'm looking for can be time consuming.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct helps with gathering data needed for financial research, usually involving funds.
Part of this is to help analyze the risk and return characteristics and funds, but also to research the impact of certain fund features like currency hedging.
Data gathered is also used to try to identify trends within the industry, including through fund flows.

 ### 46. Innovation and analysis up to date, but high subscriptions and no packages

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I like innovation in products, the analysis model, they are up to date with products and services, and data can be accessed from various platforms (Excel, Python)

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

The subscription costs seem high to me, the purchases are one by one, you can't create packages to get a better price. I don't like the navigation of the new Direct image in "Performance Reports", I can't adjust the performance calculation, I can't add or remove stations.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Access to information for the entire investment fund sector. It doesn't help me with the Afores in Mexico.

 ### 47. Comprehensive Data, But Presentation Studio Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** KimChu P. | Director/Strategic Sales and Service Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

The system offers an impressive breadth and depth of data, which enables me to make more efficient use of my research time.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

Presentation Studio could benefit from a significant update. To create more engaging visuals, I frequently have to export the data and use other tools to design more attractive proposals. It would be much more effective if the software included additional marketing features, such as support for layers.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct addresses the major challenge of data fragmentation by bringing together global investment data within a single, unified platform. This consolidation saves me considerable time and ensures a consistent basis for my analyses. The platform allows for in-depth, actionable insights through its performance attribution and risk analytics, going well beyond basic data review. It also gives users the ability to generate highly customized and automated reports tailored to specific client or regulatory requirements. In the end, Morningstar Direct delivers the comprehensive evidence and analytical strength necessary to support investment decisions, manage risk efficiently, and communicate value with assurance.

**Official Response from Storey Sheriff:**

> We're glad to hear that you find Morningstar Direct's data breadth and depth impressive and that it's helping you make more efficient use of your research time. We appreciate your feedback about the Presentation Studio and will take it into consideration for future updates.

 ### 48. Competitor Analysis You’ll Love

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clement L. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

competitor analysis. Great for rankings and compare with other investment.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

presentation studio...too slow. It takes a long line just to load. Also very long time to load a report.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Competitor Analysis and sales support

 ### 49. Vast Data Sets That Make Analysis Easy

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I really like the product. Nothing to change at this point.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Competitive analysis of mutual funds and ETFS.

 ### 50. Invaluable Tool with Seamless Setup and Powerful Insights

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gabriel C.

**Reviewed Date:** October 23, 2025

**What do you like best about Morningstar Direct?**

I find Morningstar Direct to be an invaluable tool for the type of work we do, offering unmatched data power and effective information. It provides access to up-to-date information that managers don't necessarily provide, which is crucial for comprehensive analysis and decision-making. The platform allows us to compare funds to categories using the category average as a benchmark, providing deeper insights into fund positions relative to peers. I am pleased with Morningstar's user capability and robust database, which are very strong and beneficial for conducting due diligence and oversight of fund managers. Additionally, I appreciate the straightforward and seamless setup process facilitated by the customer service team through live demos. The presentation studios are a very valuable tool, allowing us to create decks that facilitate productive meetings with managers by providing a reference for trends and historical changes in the funds. Overall, the software's features, like equity attribution or total portfolio attribution, presentation studio, performance reporting, and the Workspace module, are highly utilized and extremely useful in executing my tasks efficiently. Lastly, it is reliable and a must-have solution for manager selection and portfolio management, offering everything needed for our roles.

**What do you dislike about Morningstar Direct?**

I would appreciate better peer group categorization for separately managed accounts (SMAs). Currently, SMAs are mixed with different account types like high net worth portfolios, composites and institutional pooled funds, making comparative analysis less effective. The peer group percentile rankings are not very reflective, which makes comparisons challenging. Additionally, the presentation studio experiences lag, causing delays when downloading or running reports, especially when generating multiple reports concurrently.

**What problems is Morningstar Direct solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Morningstar Direct solves timing issues, providing updated fund information faster than managers. It allows us to benchmark category averages for better insight into fund rankings, making performance tracking more accurate and aiding effective fund management.
