## Betterment at Work Reviews
  ### 1. Low effort 401(k) administration that saves time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eric R. | Revenue Operations Manager, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

As the person who administers our 401k, what I value most is how little the platform gets in my way. Betterment handles the investments and default allocations, which is a real time-saver at a small company where I wear a lot of hats. Employee facing onboarding and tooling is good enough that most everyone can enroll without pinging me. The admin dashboard surfaces what I need for census and contribution tracking without a lot of digging, including plan docs that I routinely need to reference.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Plan-design flexibility is more limited. When I was evaluating a safe harbor change and thinking through ADP testing and top-heavy exposure, I wanted more built-in modeling and clearer guidance in-platform rather than having to work it out separately or with support. Reporting exports could also be more configurable. Support is generally responsive but can slow down on nuanced compliance questions that fall outside the standard playbook. Badly needs integration with my PEO, Deel.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives a lean Ops team a competitive retirement benefit without requiring a dedicated benefits admin or a separate advisor. The automation around enrollment and contributions removes recurring manual work, and offering a modern, low-friction 401(k) helps with recruiting a ton.

  ### 2. Flexible Employee Options, Easy for employees to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian E. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers a variety of investment options and loans for employees. It's beneficial as it allows employees to get a loan from their 401k and repay it through payroll deductions, which simplifies the process. I also appreciate the ability for customization for employees and the enhanced options for customization and loans compared to our previous provider, Guideline.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I don't like that the employees have to sign up themselves and sometimes they get lost when trying to sign up. The initial setup was also a bit hard, and we encountered difficulties because our contact was changed mid-process, which significantly delayed things.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work offers diverse investment options and loans, allowing employees to repay through payroll. It integrates well with accounting software and provides customization for employees.

  ### 3. Easy Payroll Processing, Clear Notifications, and Fast Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wendy M. | Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Website is easy and communication between employees and management/payroll is very good. Payroll is easy to upload and process by downloading a CSV file and entering data. Approving distributions and getting notifications are easy and clear as well.
Pricing was better than our old plan and employee options are greater as ell.
Support has been quick to repond to any questions, typically within hours and the same day.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Having access to a real person and having a phone number for contacting was the biggest dislike I have. All communication has been email or online support. Maybe I am old school but a real person connection has been my biggest dislike.
All communication with online and support has been quick response but I do miss that personal connection.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I do not have any problems.

  ### 4. Effortless Payroll Integration, Minor Reporting Hiccups

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristi H. | Staff Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really appreciate how Betterment at Work functions smoothly with Rippling to handle payroll efficiently. Once an employee is set up, it's completely hands-off, which makes this task one thing I don't have to worry about when ensuring payroll runs smoothly and all the information flows correctly. I also like that employees have direct access and control over their own accounts without having to go through me. They can make changes, check their account balances, and work directly with Betterment, which removes the task from my plate. The initial setup was pretty straightforward and easy, which added to the positive experience.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Admin reporting is a little weird. You will eventually get there, but it isn't my favorite feature to work with. Actually show the reporting option. Having to select 'Run Report' seems backwards and goes against my instinct of where to actually find the options. As I am a Controller, I was asking my CFO for the reports as I didn't think I was given access. My screen always showed 'No reports to show'. She had to tell me how to run them before I realized I even had access to the reporting.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work integrates with Rippling for smooth payroll processing, making it hands-off once set up. Employees manage their own accounts, reducing my workload and ensuring better control over account activities.

  ### 5. Affordable 401(k) Management with Room for Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ben L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I really appreciate the ease of setup and management with Betterment at Work; it's extremely easy and painless, which was one of the reasons we chose it. I also like the low-cost affordability. The fact that I don't have to think much about management beyond the payroll each month is a big plus for me.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I would love direct integration with our payroll. The fact that I have to manually do it every month is kind of annoying. The fact that I can miss rate changes because it's not synced automatically bothers me. So I would love to see direct integration with our payroll system.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work allows us to provide competitive benefits to recruit in a hard-to-hire area and adds an additional benefit we can offer.

  ### 6. Smooth 401(k) Management with Helpful Reminders and Easy HR Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We’re able to manage our 401(k) plan smoothly for employees, and we receive helpful updates and reminders about important documents that need to be filed and submitted. The UI is simple and easy to understand, and it integrates with our HR platform and runs very well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

From a functionality standpoint, there isn’t much to dislike about Betterment at Work. It serves our team very well, and the platform feels seamless to use day to day. The UI is simple and generally good, but it could benefit from some modernization and a more updated look and feel.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Definitely the right management tool for our 401(k) plan. It helps me manage our employees’ contributions and handle any immediate problems or concerns with ease.

  ### 7. Easy to Navigate, but Needs Broader Third-Party Access and Integrations

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian H. | Founder, and CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We have found the platform to be one of the easier to work with and navigate.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

As a platform, it would help to offer broader access to third parties, including benefits brokers, retirement plan advisors, and integrations to admin platforms. While some of that is in place, the competitive market has opened its doors, and providers that put up barriers will eventually not be as favorable.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is helping several of our clients offer retirement plans to their employees

  ### 8. Easy Setup, Great for 401(k) Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like that the app is super easy to work with. I also like that you're able to have your other investments and your own high yield savings account in the same place. For myself as an employee, I like that I'm able to go into my app and have all of my different investments there right alongside my 401(k). From an admin perspective, I appreciate that it is easy to use within the platform.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I feel like sometimes stuff in Betterment at Work can be really confusing for me, and it isn't quite dumbed down enough. I also feel like some experiences working with Betterment employees have not been great. They've been a little bit on the cranky side, so I usually leave the conversation feeling guilty about asking for help or feeling bad that I was bothering them.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work helps us provide a 401(k) to our employees.

  ### 9. User-Friendly Employee Experience That Truly Engages Our Younger Workforce

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jazlyn O. | Human Resources Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The user-friendly employee experience, especially with our younger workforce, that is attractive and more engaging to them.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I wish there were more admin features, some of the employee management features are not set up the best, and it would be nice to have more insights and abilities to do more to better support our team members.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The pricing was attractive, especially leaving our previous plan administrator, given our company is also very financially cautious right now.

  ### 10. Great software for retirement tracking and investment.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard G. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment offers a great UI to see how much you're investing and where it's being invested. As an admin, I can also easily do the same with all employees.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I have not found any dislikes. I wish I would have gone directly through Betterment instead of using a 3rd party, but pleased overall.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment is helping us to provide retirement benefits and a 401K matching program. We are a young company and this helps us provide a needed benefit.

  ### 11. Helpful expert support and automated investing, but limited to the UK

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angella N. | Full stack developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work because it offers free consultations with financial experts and has friendly, responsive customer support. It also gives me helpful insight into savings and crypto investing, which supports my long-term planning. On top of that, the platform automates investing, making it a reliable and efficient tool for me to use.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The only downside is that it isn’t available internationally, as it’s currently limited to users in the USA

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As the name suggests, Betterment at Work helps individuals set aside money for retirement. Its automated investing features support long-term saving by steadily building funds and allowing users to earn returns over time. The platform also integrates with payroll systems, making contributions and overall fund management more convenient and efficient.

It also supports cryptocurrency investments, giving users another option for diversifying their portfolios. Because automation handles much of the process, investing feels more streamlined, which can help users grow their savings and manage their earnings more effectively over time.

  ### 12. Clean, Easy Platform That Integrates Smoothly with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospitality | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

From an accountant perspective, it is a nice clean platform that integrates nicely with Gusto. I am happy with the ease of service, but wish there was a better way to set up approval of each payroll. Price is fair (on the company side), employees seem to like it as well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

We have 3 different payrolls that are connected to Betterment, it is sort of frustrating to have to approve each different one and select the payroll account EACH TIME. Also, would like $0 payrolls to auto process.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping our employees plan for the future, it is very important to me to see other people have come ups.

  ### 13. User-Friendly UI and Seamless Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew O. | Accounting Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It has a much better UI, website, and overall feel than a lot of other financial institutions. Its more user friendly and connects with our payroll system well.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There have been a few issues on syncing employee data, the employee census was also difficult as a first year client.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is automating our 401k contributions and matching contributions, which benefits our team eliminating manual work and it has more accuracy.

  ### 14. Seamless Payroll Integration That Makes Benefits Self-Serve

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Renee Q. | Director, People Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's seamlessly integrated with our payroll system, reducing much of the admin and making the process self-serve for employees.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The fees are a little higher than we'd like for participants.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are supporting us through our 5500 reporting right now, and that's a huge administrative burden lifted from our shoulders. We also seem their support with compliance questions from our employees often.

  ### 15. Efficient Retirement Management, Needs Improved Reporting

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Minnie G. | Tax Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like Betterment at Work for its multi-access feature, allowing accountants and owners to manage things seamlessly. The reminder system is another aspect that works especially well, helping ensure important tasks aren't missed. The initial setup was good, which made transitioning to it pretty smooth.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Some of the reports I ran can be improved. The reports could be more specific, like having one designated for filing retirement tax credit, etc.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage 401k efficiently, solving the burden of retirement plan management. I like the multi-access feature for accountants and owners and appreciate the reminder system.

  ### 16. Automatic Deferral Sync + a Support Team That Knows Compliance

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

the Rippling integration, deferral elections sync automatically every payroll cycle, no extra work on my end

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Not much to complain about honestly. If I had to pick something — during onboarding, more guidance on timing the last deferral with the outgoing vendor would've helped. We had a gap in deferrals for the team during the transition that better sequencing could've avoided.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mainly it's making sure we offer a competitive, industry-standard benefit without a ton of overhead on my end. The distribution review/processing workflows are straightforward, easy to review requests and process them without a lot of back and forth.

  ### 17. Effortless 401(k) Management for Small Businesses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liz D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

I find Betterment at Work easy to use, and it simplifies decision-making with its prompts, which is great for a small business owner like me. I like that it allows my employees to make changes easily to their 401(k) accounts. It's one of those applications where you can set it up and not have to worry about it. Additionally, the platform's initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Nothing

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Betterment at Work easy to use, simplifying decision-making for a small business owner. It allows my employees to easily manage their 401(k) accounts and is a low-maintenance solution.

  ### 18. Good option for 401k

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Abigail M. | HR Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The interface is very easy to use. Our employees have not had any issues using it.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The one time I have needed their support team, it took a while to hear back compared to other platforms.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We previously did not have a 401k, so Betterment is benefiting our employees by providing them with a great benefit option.

  ### 19. Transparent, Easy-to-Use Platform with an Accessible Business Interface

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like the transparency and easy access of the platform. I have been a customer on the personal side for a long time and was pleased to see that the business interface was just as accessible.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

As someone who is completely new to managing a 401k account - and as the sole employee - I would love some 101 level materials to make sure I am not screwing things up and that apply to my situation

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has solved the most basic problem of providing an option for a 401k

  ### 20. User-Friendly Portal for Retirement Savings, Needs Improved Loan Feature

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laura B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I like that the customer portal of Betterment at Work is very user-friendly, making it easy for me to see where my stocks are going and where my contributions are being made.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I think the part where you can take out a loan for distribution needs more visibility on the portal. Also, I didn't face any challenges setting up Betterment at Work, but it wasn't very seamless.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work for managing my retirement savings, and the user-friendly portal lets me see where my stocks and contributions are going.

  ### 21. Great experience with the tool with minimum time spent on payroll tasks relating to 401k

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** saraansh c. | Controller, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The online platform is quite intuitive and the support team is responsive whenever we needed any help with the setup. The integration with our payroll platform also works amazing.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Investment advisory for employees from time to time. Limited investment options.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy management of 401k plans for employees and easy reporting.

  ### 22. Smooth Onboarding with Helpful Betterment Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

When I onboarded, there were issues with the transition from my prior provider. These were entirely related to the prior provider and not Betterment. My Betterment representative helped me through the process to complete the onboarding and this was very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There is nothing that I dislike about Betterment at Work

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work handles everything for me in an easy manner, so I don't have to devote time or mental energy to managing my company's 401(k) plan. I really appreciate that.

  ### 23. I’ve noticed that it really helps more employees get involved

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Flavia C. | Employee Benefits Specialist, Entertainment, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

My favorite feature of Betterment at Work is that it made managing the retirement of employees easier. Once it was implemented, we connected it to payroll and contributions became smooth. I apply it to various occasions as often as onboarding and benefits season, and this makes our HR processes effective. The features which provide customized investment advice and tracking of progress will provide enough features so that the employees can have a chance to plan their retirement without overloading our staff with questions and handwork.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work has weaknesses. Although it does a good job in contributions and tracking of goals, it is not very flexible in extracting detailed reporting information. The size of features is good on the whole, although the creation of detailed reports can involve the exportation of data and restructuring. Since we also use frequent reporting when we are reviewing benefits, this introduces additional work to the HR department as well as slows the decision making process when making changes.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The largest issue Betterment at Work solves to us is having the employees themselves engaged in the retirement plans. In the past, there was need to have manual tracking and reminders. Employees become more regular with saving, having such features as automatic contributions, goal guidance and portfolio rebalancing. Since it is a frequently used tool in our case, when we go through benefits checks, the HR is aware, and employees feel valued. This has enhanced trust on retirement plans and minimized paperwork.

  ### 24. Seamless Payroll Integration with a Great High-Yield Savings Bonus

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nick M. | Senior Human Resources Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The integration to our payroll provider was seamless and the high yield savings account is a nice added bonus.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The investment options are more limited than our previous provider.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has helped in keeping our benefit costs down.

  ### 25. Betterment at Work Makes Employee Decision-Making Easy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work is user friendly, easy to navigate, and makes decision making easy for our employees.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There are some attributes I would like to see displayed in the dashboard that I have to go into an employee's profile to view, like if they have claimed their account. We also have to pay a paper fee for some employees.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed to switch 401(k) platforms since our last one was acquired.

  ### 26. Nice Interface for Employers and Employees, QBO Integration Could be Better

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Onboarding was fairly easy. The interface from the employer and employee sides are nice.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

There is not a customer service phone number for the employer. They do not offer mutual funds. They do not show the employer match on employee paystubs with the QBO integration, which is a big problem for accounting and requires manual entry to overcome.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It reduces most manual entry for retirement funding in payroll.

  ### 27. Helpful Chatbot and Responsive Team Follow-Up

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ana R. | HR Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Utilizing the chatbot and the follow up from team members.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I wish the platform was more transparent.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Questions that employees might have.

  ### 28. Reliable platform for structured retirement benefits

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Violette S. | Employee experience manager, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work is unique in that the responsibility of retirement planning has been positively changed. I use it frequently, particularly when I am training new employees. The payroll integration is very reliable and it was implemented with ease than expected. The features are what I like most since they guide the employees without my involvement. Such transformation in itself has minimized interruptions and made my workday more committed and foreseeable.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work does not suit very customized benefits structure, as far as business is concerned. The said restriction has introduced additional processes in my workflow particularly when making payroll amendments. The platform is used on a regular basis, and therefore minor inefficiencies are noticeable. There are certain features that seem to be reserved by pricing levels and this restricts the flexibility of small teams. It has not prevented us, but has brought about workarounds.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work is a way to deal with the issue of administering retirement benefits without the need to strain the administrative type. It is useful to my business in that it saves time and mistakes are minimized. Employees are more involved, and hence I have fewer follow ups. I make regular use of it, and the payroll integration helps to maintain everything on track. The process of onboarding and the continued benefits is better, and it makes daily HR work less stressful and less demanding.

I don’t love that we don’t have a dedicated CSM for our company.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

More diversified portfolios, easy to transition and use the platform

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

Manual updates like for Education plans and SAR forms. To do the SAR distribution, I need to pull two separate reports. I feel like Betterment should provide one report for us to make it easier.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Better customer service than Slavik, but still incomplete direction/details from support team

  ### 34. Solid Product and Pre-Sales Support, but Post-Purchase Help Falls Short

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The pre-sales support, and actual product are generally solid.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

After purchase support has been really rough. The website is shiny, but doesn't seem to be useful for much of anything. Getting ahold of a person to help has been a disaster in the past.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Providing a retirement plan for my employees.

  ### 35. Seamless Payroll Integrations, But Support Guidance Was Hard to Find

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

It's seamless running payroll and having the integration items reflected immediately after.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

We didn't have a dedicated person until an issue arose and we didn't know how to find out where to go for guidance. It took multiple emails before we knew what to look or ask for.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Seeing everything in one place helps.

  ### 40. Betterment at Work smoothed our benefit reporting, freeing HR for higher impact initiatives

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rita H. | Manager, employee financial benefits, Hospital & Health Care, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The flexibility of the employees to increase or decrease their percentages of contributions whenever they wish to, without the need to go through human resource. This Air Flex has a great deal to do with it. Such an interactive outlook as a simple what-if scenario builder helps staff members visualise the effects of moderate changes in contributions on their long term scenario, which is again more interactive than a standard projected outlook. The quarterly insights reports that we provide to employees have proven to be surprisingly useful in drawing attention to forgotten benefits specifically related to tax, something that most employees do seem to find useful.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

In the administrative dashboard, there is poor filtering with which to segment the engagement data according to department and tenure of the employee. It becomes difficult to recognise particular support requirements. We would also like the ability to stream specific financial wellness messages to specific groups of employees directly in the platform. Impersonal messages come out poorly The lack of an HR internal messaging system so that HR can influence the employee to do something like review annual statements involves introducing email campaigns.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It was so overwhelming to think that one day they had to save long term, many of our junior staff had student loans and they were not able to picture a long term savings scenario. They did not have a clear and easy to digest and understand starting point which is more than just retirement. Betterment at Work made saving procedural, categorizing payment into smaller more controllable units such as humanitarian funds or travel in the future. This brought the term wealth building to a more practical, less-scary place. Within a short period of time since going live, we have observed that there is a marked increase in the engagement captured of these different savings objectives, indicative of a mind-set change of moving away to a state of financial paralysis to proactive planning amongst our younger workforce.

  ### 41. Very happy with Betterment at Work after a number of years

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Molly S. | Head of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 13, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

We've used Betterment at Work for a number of years to manage our team 401k plans. Overall, I've been very satisfied with the service and resources they offer. As our employer admin, I really appreciate how clearly it maps out the specific actions I need to take to stay in compliance, and keep my team up to speed. The support team is also very helpful when I have questions or need help with something, and the online interface is very user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

When we initially transitioned our 401k platforms to Betterment, it was a somewhat difficult and convoluted process, however I can't be completely sure if this was more due to the complexities of our previous platform. Since shifting over, I've been very happy with the Betterment offering.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work helps streamline our 401k offering and reduce the administrative work required to administer the plan to our employees. There is always some amount of work required to successfully offer and manage a 401k plan for a company, but I think Betterment does a great job of handling the complexities and making it as simple as possible for the Employer.

  ### 42. Works well for our organization

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mary O. | Chief Administrative Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

The admin interface works well and the user side is also straightforward. The onboarding was relatively smooth. Our staff is happy with the investment options, and it is easy to make changes. It integrates well with our payroll platform (Gusto) which makes the backend easy. When there are tasks and compliance work to be done, they make it clear and easy.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I do not like that you can't pick up the phone and talk to a person when you have a question or issue. Their online support is fine, but sometimes I want a person. There is some user features that we had with our old system, like seeing how much your paycheck would change if you altered your contribution, that Betterment does not offer.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We changed payroll platforms and needed a new 401k provider. It helped us set up a new system to get former employers out of our plan.

  ### 43. Seamless User Experience with Room for Improvement in Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daria F. | Manager, HR, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 01, 2024

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

Betterment at Work offers a user experience that is both intuitive and visually appealing. The platform allows users to navigate with ease, enabling them to access resources and complete tasks. Most employees find it straightforward to manage their retirement plans, which significantly enhances their overall experience with our 401(k) offerings.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

The primary area for improvement is the integration process with our HRIS system. It could have been more streamlined, as the current setup is somewhat complex. Additionally, better communication during system updates or changes would be beneficial. Keeping us informed throughout these transitions would help us manage expectations and ensure that all integration aspects run smoothly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work effectively addresses challenges related to 401(k) management. The user-friendly access to financial resources and educational tools empowers our employees to make informed decisions about their retirement plans. This increased understanding and accessibility enhance the value of our benefits package, contributing to higher employee satisfaction and engagement.

  ### 44. Betterment is User Friendly

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gillie M. | Benefits Administrator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2025

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I'm relatively new to managing certain aspects of our company's plan and Betterment has made it very easy for me to get up to speed. I particularly like all of the resources that are available for plan administrators. I was able to easily create a presentation for our company using what Betterment had already provided. Also, I recently had an issue with an employee who could not access their account and the customer support team handled the issue very promptly and to my satisfaction.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

One downside to Betterment that I have noticed is that many of my employees somehow skip adding beneficiaries when they set up their accounts. I don't know why it's not more obvious in the flow for them to complete that step. In my estimation, 80% of employees neglect that step.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Betterment at Work gives me the resources to educate my employees, which ultimately contributes to an overall positive culture.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Betterment at Work?**

I appreciate the automatic investment strategies on Betterment at Work that make it so easy to set up goals. The platform takes the complexity out of the process, which gives me peace of mind knowing that it handles the work efficiently, making the investment process faster and less stressful. The Duca Sonar content provided is also very helpful as it simplifies understanding of how to index, further empowering me to manage financial activities effectively. Additionally, the educational content is written in a way that is easy to understand, empowering clients to take control of their financial decisions without feeling lost. The initial setup was pretty simple to complete, with the system guiding us step by step through the onboarding process, making it smooth and efficient without consuming too much of our time.

**What do you dislike about Betterment at Work?**

I would like to see more customer support options for the remaining plans. Sometimes, the options don't meet all the company's needs, so a bit more flexibility would be helpful. Additionally, the mobile app could be a bit more user-friendly.

**What problems is Betterment at Work solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Betterment at Work to manage employee benefits and investment options, enhancing financial security and motivation. It simplifies complex tasks and provides real-time growth insights, which connects employees to their financial goals. The automation reduces stress and speeds up processes.
