Some of the features I asked for previously have been implemented and there is constantly something new. I also get a chance to work on the content designed for helping others, which adds an extra layer of purpose. The project managers are super-helpful. It is not something 'new', but it is still worth mentioning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Smartling? I previously asked for a 'Follow' feature on string issues and it has been added, but now I think it needs an improvement. It should show either everyone who is following or whether the linguist who worked on the string in a previous step is following this issue. This will help editors see whether an issue was recognised by the linguist who submitted the content. At the moment, for visibility, we still have to add a + comment, but it creates a lot of unnecessary emails. Bulk-added jobs get deadlines assigned automatically, depending on their size, so you can easily end up with several medium-sized jobs all due on the same day, with added up word count that takes a few days to complete. We can, of course, ask project managers, but it would be cool if work balancing was automated to take out the stress of waiting for a reply or worrying whether the request reached them out of hours. It offers great flexibility and a robust set of tools to make the translation process more efficient. What I value most is how well the translation memory holds up across long-running accounts — TM leverage on repeat strings saves real time on updates, and TMX export is reliable when I need to move segments into my own QA and glossary workflows. The CAT editor can slow down noticeably on files with a high segment count, which becomes noticeable on larger enterprise projects. I've also run into cases where visual context wasn't available for certain strings, which meant translating without full context and having to go back and check against the live UI later for QA. Before using Smartling, managing translation memory and terminology consistency across multiple enterprise clients meant more manual cross-referencing, inconsistent terminology and slower turnaround. With Smartling's TM leverage and locked glossary terms, I can maintain consistency across large volumes of UI strings and reduce terminology QA time without manually rechecking every string against a style guide. This has been especially useful when working across clients with different house styles, since the glossary and context notes keep the brand voice consistent without me having to hold every rule in my head. Here are some of my observations when working on an iPad: 1. You need to double click to use the “save page” and “submit” buttons twice to be able to use them 2. Going from page to page is difficult 3. I have noticed that with some multi-page jobs, if you use the “save page” option, not all segments are saved 4. I love using Smartling mainly for its context function, which is incredibly helpful when translating: with just one click, I can see the final result of my work and check whether it really fits in context. The ease of consulting style guides and any attached documents is also unparalleled. I really appreciate that I can see issues created by other linguists and that they can see mine too; this way, we can spot and resolve any inconsistency or doubt together simply by reading each other’s comments. "Fast and easy to use" 4.5/5 What do you like best about Smartling? This it is a very intuitive translating software. I found it easy to use from the very beginning. One of my favourite features is the "issues", as doubts are visible for all translators and solved easily and soon. I also like the fact that it loads fast and working with it is, therefore, fast too. It slows downs a bit when there are too many pages to be translated/reviewed, though. I have been working with Smartling for over 8 years and I understand more and more that it is one of the easiest online tools to use and that causes the least problems for the translator. The glossary doesn't have much information, it could be a little broader and complete and not just have a specific translation of a word. I really enjoy Smartling because it is simple to use and quite intuitive. I use it on a daily basis for my translation work. The ability to access my clients' global glossary and translate according to their preference is a huge help. I also appreciate the MTPE translation feature, although my role now involves reviewing to ensure accuracy. The issue reporting service is great, as it allows me to send questions directly to clients for clarification, which is valuable for understanding the source language better. Smartling's support is helpful in guiding me to use the tool more efficiently, and the feature to claim jobs only when I have the time to work on them is practical.
