## Optimizely Content Management System Reviews
  ### 1. User-Friendly CMS with Some Limitations

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Beatrice B. | Translator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I use Optimizely Content Management System for localizing, creating, and optimizing landing pages. I find it very user-friendly and appreciate that it's structured to serve even junior-level e-commerce coordinators. I like the layout and category structure, allowing me to review, preview, and localize content from master languages effectively.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Sometimes it's very clumsy and has certain features missing or that simply don't work. It is quite a limited platform when it comes to creating more creative content, such as articles or adjusted landing pages.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Optimizely Content Management System for localizing and optimizing landing pages and as a platform for our e-commerce, managing products and CMS pages.

  ### 2. Software review and feedback for Optimizely Content Management System

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ma. Clarizza F. | Digital Marketing Senior Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The best thing about Optimizely CMS is their customer support; even on the weekend, they are always available. Apart from that, the ease of use is one of the best things about using Optimizely. In our company, aside from the development team, we have a content team that curates the content of our corporate website. They always want to customize some content, and they can easily customize that the way they want using the rich-text and add some custom HTML code, which is a feature of the CMS.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

One thing in Optimizely that is a challenge is integrating other software which they are not yet supported. Hence, software that is big in the market can be easily implemented, such as InRiver and other things, with Optimizely CMS.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely CMS helps us solve customization request of the stakeholders with their built-in feature and deployment support. In our team, every weekend we are having a deployment to Production and Optimizely support always helps us whenever we are facing issues with the deployment like a revert, a database update.

On the content management side, Optimizely is top-notch with customization feature that helps our authoring to our website more ease. It's convenient since we are just building pages and blocks and we can easily drag and drop those content stack to each other.

  ### 3. Optimizely CMS Review 2025

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roel Cezar C. | .NET Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

One thing I've always liked best about EPiServer (since I've been developing on it before the transition to Optimizely) is its versatility and open-source integration with other platforms. As a CMS developer, we are creating a content management solution that our internal authors would use, and Optimizely has its distinct feature to curate content, page layouts, and other public materials on our website. The customer support is very responsive whenever we have an issue with regards to deployment to our different staging environments, aside from production. It can also support having to develop a multisite which will share a layout to have different websites in one.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The least favorite feature for me is the challenge to upgrade to the latest one, as we do have an issue upgrading our framework as well. Overall, Optimizely is top-notch in its service in terms of Content Management System.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The content management and curation of public materials in our corporate website. Optimizely has an ease of use to develop with and to use by the our internal authors which leads to a top SEO engagement/metrics in our site that converts page visitors to a potential customer.

  ### 4. Optimizely CMS, from content management to marketing workflow engine.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paul d. | Chief Technology Officer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I have been using Optimizely CMS from 2006 and have seen it grow through all the years. The last few years its effectiveness has increased due to being part of the Optimizely One product, integrated with AI and workflow. This has really leveraged the product to go from Content Management System (CMS) to Digital Experience Platform (DXP) to Marketing Operating System (Marketing OS). It is not a place to do tasks anymore, but to check up on the final content of your workflow on every channel and in every language. It has become really easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The real power of the Optimizely CMS is leveraged in the newest version, which requires an upgrade for many existing users to a different format. Looking at long-term strategy, you would need to do that anyways, but this could hurt user adoption on the short-term.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely CMS, in combination with its Optimizely CMP product and Opal AI, really leverage the power of workflows with Generative AI and AI agents. Instead of providing information on how to do something, the system really does the tasks for you in good quality. All steps still need human oversight, ofcourse, but free up much needed mental space for the creative work as a marketer.

  ### 5. Easy to use with lots of customization opportunities

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alyssa G. | Web Development Specialist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I find the CMS easy to navigate while also having many customizable features to enhance the usage of the system. As a web developer, not only is the CMS interface easy to work with, but so is the code. There has been many opportunities to add our own customization and it's pretty easy to integrate any add-ons and apps. The CMS works well with 3rd party implementations as well as Optimizely's own library of apps. I feel the opportunities are kind of endless with what you can do with the platform which is always a plus. Their customer service has also been top notch with detailed reports and fast responses. 9 times out of 10, their customer support will have a solution ready for whatever problem we happen to encounter weather it be on the code side or within the CMS itself.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I do feel that the developer documentation could be a little more detailed. I find that whenever I need to look into the documentation, i'm still left with a few questions. But on the bright side the forums will almost always have an answer within them. And also i do end up finding answers on google from independent blogs/forums and customer support usually can help fill in any missing info as well.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely allows for everyday people, who have little to no website management experience, to create a website with ease. It allows for the customization of a site and with a web developer on the team, even more customization is possible. Honestly, it's kind of endless the opportunities that are available to easily create a website with a good user experience.

  ### 6. Easy content editing and custom functionality

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michelle H. | Web and Digital Marketing Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Optimizely is easy for a variety of content editors to make changes - with permission restrictions it's simple to grant team members access to manage their content contributions. The ability to develop custom functionality has been beneficial for our team and has allowed for unique user experiences to help set our brand apart from peers. The ease of integrating other 3rd party solutions into the CMS has been seamless. I've had great customer service from Optimizely over the years where they are quick to respond to tickets and helpful with requests that are less common.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The out of box forms are a little limiting and require custom development in order to style them and/or create custom workflows. It would be great if the A/B testing capability was available outside of their ODP package.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The site search feature allows us to easily track content topics users are interested in and/or looking for. This feature has allow our content team to develop relevant content and provide easier navigation to items people commonly search for, which has reduced calls to our call centers.

  ### 7. Optimizely is a robust CMS with a rich feature set for organizations of all sizes.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian L. | Senior Director, CRM and Web Integration, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 21, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The Optimizely CMS is intuitive and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The system is expensive and could be cost-prohibitive for smaller organizations.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Optimizely to run our website to support over 100,000+ of our members. The Optimizely CMS is solving several key challenges for the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) by streamlining content creation, management, and delivery across its digital platforms. Prior to implementation, AMTA likely faced difficulties with outdated content workflows, inconsistent user experiences, and limited personalization capabilities. Optimizely CMS addresses these issues by providing a user-friendly interface, robust content personalization tools, and seamless integration capabilities. This empowers AMTA to deliver relevant, timely information to its members and site visitors, enhance engagement, and maintain a consistent brand voice. As a result, the association can better support its mission of promoting the massage therapy profession and serving its members through a more dynamic and responsive digital presence.

  ### 8. A great CMS for developers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan O. | Manager of Web Development Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

As a developer and technical admin for the Opti CMS, I find it very easy to do whatever I need. Things work as expected and We've had nearly zero downtime since using the platform. Although the ease of use for editors depends greatly on choices made during implementation, we've found the experience to be positive. The CMS is easy to use and our customer support team at Optimizely are very supportive and take great care of us.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I don't really dislike anything but there are some minor annoyances over some things in the CMS.
Recently we've needed to find a document stored in the CMS based on its public URL but, because it was stored inside of a "for this block" that was likely stored in another "for this block" or "for this page" folder, it became nearly impossible to find. Some additional internal reporting and management utilities would be helpful.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our previous CMS platform was a bit of a disaster, partly due to the platform and partly due to the implementation. This product allows us to host our website within little-to-no technical issues outside of some implementation problems that we are easily able to remedy. We can host the content that we want, the way that we want, without worrying about the technology. Our internal stakeholders have just gotten use to the site being up 100% of the time without issues. Even when we deploy updates to our CMS, we have zero downtime.

  ### 9. Excellent product and easy to use as a developer

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robin F. | Backend developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Ease of use, as a developer to code-first approach to CMS is very useful.
Plenty of training materials available and an active community forum.
I use this every day and alongside other CMS offerings and find Opti to always provide the best environment to implement a fully functional website using a mix of Opti features and standard .NET practices.
Very extendable and lots of 3rd party plugins available to use and simple to create your own and integrate into a CMS website.
Customer support available for reporting issues and assistance using cloud services.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Since upgrade to .NET core some features have not yet been implemented (DDS admin)
Upgrading from .NET framework to core can be complicated and time consuming.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Agency website development providing boiler plate style sample projects (Alloy/Foundation) for a starting point to get a website running and customised quickly and easily.
Client requirements often involve heavy customisation of base product, which can be done easily with Opti CMS.

  ### 10. User friendly CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Currenlty our version of CMS is not in latest which lack of new features. theres an error everytime when we tried to update the global link translation. it requires a latest version of CMS and other nugget packages

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fallback language, if the content of particular page is same with other region we dont need to create another content for that paticular region to save time. we just have to set the fallback language

When a requestor requires a time and date to publish the page , we can set this up on episerver using scheduled publish time

**Reviewed Date:** June 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Optimizely CMS strikes a solid balance between flexibility for developers and ease of use for content authors. The UI is intuitive, making it easy for our content team to manage and publish updates without needing technical intervention. As developers, we benefit from its strong integration capabilities with ASP.NET and C#, allowing us to create custom blocks, APIs, and features with minimal friction.

We use the platform frequently across multiple global pages and campaigns, and it scales well with our enterprise needs. The CMS also offers a wide set of features, from versioning to localization and user permissions, that are critical for managing large, content-rich sites.

Support from Optimizely has been responsive and helpful whenever we've reached out with questions or run into issues, which adds confidence to our day-to-day operations.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The initial learning curve can be steep for developers who are new to the platform, especially when dealing with complex configurations or legacy projects. Some aspects of the documentation can be inconsistent or lacking detail, especially when dealing with version-specific features or upgrades. Additionally, performance can occasionally lag on large-scale content-heavy pages unless optimization is proactively managed.

We use Optimizely CMS as the core platform for managing and delivering content across our global enterprise website. **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Adrienne K. | Social Media Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

It helps me keep on top of my content tasks easily. It also enables quick collaboration and removes clutter from the inbox.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

It takes a while for many people to get used to best practices and even more for everyone to work in the same way. I know this is pretty much up to the implementation team and not the system itself, however, the system is built to be used by people so there is always the human element to be considered.

Aside from that, calendars are hard to use.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content management is made easy with this tool. No more having to scour emails to search where the last change in an article ended up, it's all in one single place.

  ### 17. Optimizely CMS Review

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Optimizely has been our CMS for the longest time. Best thing about it is the fallback settings, you are able to propagate the change on the page without recreating the pages. second best thing, if can be considered, is the preview page. It allows you to view the page and review it without publishing the oage.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The navigation. It took us some time to be familiar with the navigation especially if you are creating blocks within the blocks structures.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Although the personalization capability of Optimizely is lacking, this is what helps us with the pages and sections we need to limit the audience and personalize the user experience.

  ### 18. Optimizely can still be improved

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Audrey Margareth H. | Supervisor for Content Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Optimizely is sync to our system and it is fairly easy to use

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

In terms of user interface, I feel that this can be improved. not very much looking aesthetically but fairly serves its purpose

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In terms of user interface and user experience, I feel that you have so many options going on your screen. Too many things are happening on the side, panels and even top most surface

Optimizely CMS streamlines content management with personalization, A/B testing, and automation, making it easier to deliver targeted experiences. Its scalability and integrations improve efficiency and user engagement.

  ### 20. A mostly good start for Optimizely SaaS CMS, but with some edges to be polished.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Some communality with the traditional Optimizely CMS, in terms of structure and look & feel;
Search functionality included OOB;
Quick support, and willingness to make additions/improvements based on feedback;
Configuration via GUI is simple and easy;

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

As customization is limited, things like extended configuration options for things like rich text fields would be appreciated by content editors;
GraphQl makes FE integration easy, though there is room for improvement (things like field nullability, and content area fields should reflect the types actually allowed);
Lack of tools for content/configuration synchronization across environments (GUI and API options are available, but make it difficult to keep track of what's being changed in each environment);

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content management and search capabilities, in a headless SaaS.

  ### 21. Easy to Use and Customize CMS

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I like how clean and easy campaigns are to be created with many subtasks, where we have recurring tasks and campaigns that happen each month. The team is able to quickly and easily replicate tasks and apply to multiple accounts. It's very easy to follow the logic, and create standardized task templates. I interact with Optimizely every day.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

I wish customer support would be a little more involved with bringing simple functionality updates to life - IE: the big one - the search functionality leaves a lot to be desired.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely helps combine multiple tasks per multiple accounts and divisions into clearly defined campaigns. It benefits my team and me by being able to structure/copy campaigns for future use as templates to easily recreate and request the same deliverables at the end.

  ### 22. Balancing Usability and Complexity in Optimizely CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Insurance | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The most helpful thing about Optimizely CMS is how easy it makes content management for both developers and marketers.

1. The editor interface is intuitive. You don’t need deep technical skills to create, update, or publish content.
2. It supports real-time previewing, so you can see exactly how your content will look before it goes live.
3. The personalisation features are powerful—tailoring content to specific audiences without complex setup.
4. For developers, it's flexible and extensible. You can integrate with other systems or build custom components easily.
5. The CMS is also fast and stable, which is critical for maintaining performance at scale.

If you're managing a multi-site or multi-language setup, it handles that seamlessly too. It’s well-suited for enterprise use cases where governance, scalability, and user roles matter.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

1. For developers unfamiliar with .NET, the learning curve is steep—especially when customising or extending functionality.

2. Licensing and infrastructure costs can be significant, making it less attractive for small to mid-sized businesses.

3. The admin UI can become overwhelming with many content types or users.

4. Some useful features require additional licensing, which adds complexity to the product stack.

5. Deployment and upgrades can be effort-intensive in heavily customized environments.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely CMS helps us manage and scale digital content across multiple markets, channels, and teams efficiently.

1. It solves the challenge of maintaining brand consistency across websites, languages, and regions.

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

It's very flexible & customisable ensuring, if used correctly - there are no gaps in the creation, editing, approval and so on of any type of content. I'm not sure what we did before it to be honest! Everything is laid out in a logical fashion & users are accountable for their contributions.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Some features need to be more clearly labelled, it's not always intuitive as it should be. The default notifications are a lot and it should be easier to opt out of being a watcher on all tasks & to select a back up person to temporarily take over responsibility for my tasks when I'm away.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enables me to manage my workload & know what is the highest priority, it makes collaborating so simple. The

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

The work I do entails a variety of steps and Optimizely CMS makes it easy for everyone to stay current on work management steps. It's also easy to add photos and comments.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

it works really well, I have been pleased with it.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since we work as a team there are a number of steps that we need to stay current on and it's clear to know whose step is whose and where we are in the flow. I also appreciate the two days heads up when my step is due.

**What do you like best about Optimizely Content Management System?**

There is nothing I have ever wanted to do on Optimizely that couldn't be done, it is highly flexible, anything can be developed with minimal restrictions. Optimizely is capable of handling large numbers of SKUs with complexity including regional pricing and customised content for different visitor groups.

**What do you dislike about Optimizely Content Management System?**

Development of new functionality can be slow and expensive, there are very few out of the box plug ins that can be simply turned on without significant customisation required.

**What problems is Optimizely Content Management System solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Optimizely provides a flexible environment allowing us to cater for complexity with our e-commerce offering, while also meeting our lead generation needs.

It is mostly straightforward to use and customizable. You can highly customize using code. As a developer, I use it to create new screen message and page templates that can be edited by others.

I did not like the training material, yawn. The interface seems a bit clunky and outdated. I have not used other CMS solutions so I don't have others to compare to.

It is a great way to pass off to the business tasks that are mundane and out of scope for a developer such as updating pages with new graphics, charts, wording etc.
