I don't like Avalara their sales tax does not display in the sales tax field in quickbooks. Instead it displays where in the product service field. We had to uninstall it to prevent our clients from rejecting invoices. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

They don't stand by their product and claim the issue with their sales tax not displaying in the sales tax field is a quickbooks 'display error'. My favorite part of using Avatax is that they are comprehensive. We no longer have to collect the data and upload it into a program or try to figure it out on our own. They figure the tax on each order, create reports at the end of every month and then file with each state and locality which we are registered with. I also like that we can easily add new items and they will be taxed correctly because of the detailed definitions on each tax code Avalara uses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really appreciate how Avalara streamlines our sales tax filing, making the entire process much more efficient by saving a tremendous amount of labor. The system allows us to file our tax returns accurately and quickly across numerous jurisdictions, which is incredibly valuable for our business operations. This efficiency in managing sales tax responsibilities has had a positive impact on our business workflow. Additionally, I am pleased with how Avalara assists us in accurately billing our clients for sales tax and supports the preparation and filing of our sales tax returns in multiple jurisdictions. I love that Avalara has experts to know all the state laws when it comes to sales tax. With the addition of economic nexus, our state collection requirements more than doubled and Avalara helped us to get compliant in all the states we needed to. They had a nice tracker and dashboard to make it easy and clear where and when we needed to get registered.

Don't forget about the ever changing tax rules like the retail delivery fees some states have added (with more along the way) and all the juristictional tax rate updates...they are on it and have the rules implemented for clean collection and filing. Customer support could use some work. I understand there are thousands, if not more, of clients probably constantly reaching out for help so do understand the delays that can be had, but some of the responses we get are just the canned, "out of the handbook", responses that do not really offer any help. Yes, I can go to the Help Center and get the same response, but I went to support for a more personal touch, if you will. I'm so thankful for the service Avalara provides. It has saved our accounting staff an incredible amount of time. I love that Avalara keeps us updated when we're nearing nexus in another state. Avalara automates the determination of the proper sales & use tax rate based on what is being sold, and the location of where the sale is completed/work is preformed. The tax calculation is granular for each invoice item. This automation has allowed our company to expand into multiple states, all of which have diferent taxability rules and unique exceptions, as well as taxes at state and local levels. We would have never been able to expand at such a rapid pace had it not been for Avalara and automation of this process. The filing of the many required tax returns is just the cherry on top! Avalara also helps with all the various registrations required to expand into new states, and now offers a very affordable system to manage vendor W-9 forms and 1099 preparation and filing. Avalara is continually developing new product codes as customers bring new product offerings to the market. Our company does some work that is exempt from taxes in certain areas only due to very specific exemptions in the state & local tax codes. We find that the Avalara codes are not alwsy granular enough to address these specific unique exemptions, so custom rules and work arounds have to be developed. The Avalara sales tax solution, AvaTax, is seamless, accurate and provides us with the reports we need for state sales tax compliance. Our company has been using AvaTax since 2018 and we've never had system or accuracy issues. When a need comes up, whether it is a specific report or a new tax, Avalara can be slow to implement changes until an industry need has been established. Our company experienced a difficult implementation process. We were initially informed that Avalara offered a connector compatible with our version of Dynamics AX 2012, but this turned out not to be the case. The post-sales hand-off and onboarding experience is terrible. Their customer success and integration is outsourced to a team in India. It took three weeks to get a kick off call, and when we finally did the team was not adequately informed of our use case. Our integration project manager was unable to set clear expectations or effectively communicate the integration process entailed. It was difficult to schedule meetings, or get clear guidance over email. Our efforts to escalate have been ignored, leaving us with very low confidence that our integration will go smoothly. What I like most about Avalara is how it saves us time and reduces risk. The automation of tax calculations and filings is a huge relief, and the platform's accuracy gives us confidence that we're staying compliant. I also appreciate the ease of managing exemptions and having access to tax research tools all in one place. It makes handling complex tax scenarios much simpler. While Avalara is very helpful overall, there are a few areas that could be improved. Sometimes the integration with our systems isn't seamless, which can cause minor data inconsistencies.
