"Difficult to Use"

What do you like best?

The thing I like most about Hippo is the ability to create custom modules and templates specific to your business needs. The file structure also seems to be pretty well organized once you can get to what you're looking for.

What do you dislike?

Hippo is the least user-friendly CMS I have ever used. Everything seems to be very clunky and not intuitive. It requires many layers of searching. I really think there are way too many levels and names for finding your content. Documents, images, etc, are all found under different menus, which just seems too complicated.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Hippo can be extremely complicated to both learn as well as teach to new employees. Expect a steep learning curve if moving forward with this CMS.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hippo allows us to have many different users updating our company's site and manages a lot of content in one place.

"CMS at its very finest!"

What do you like best?

Allow users to develop their own components for stakeholders and let them create their own documents and own their content, this is specifically a tool to teach final users how to own and manage their data from their websites. Also this take users to learn how to track work orders, followed by pending and open orders which take them to the main core of the issue.

What do you dislike?

This software takes a lot of time to being implemented through servers and departments, specifically our license software: it came with a glitch, so I ended up programming the final part of the software by my own in order to implement it through my company, there were missing parts or critical components of the software that didn't come with the license by default.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For those who are looking for a reliable, flexible and pretty user-friendly CMS system, Hippo CMS is the right one to do the job. I highly recommend this software because once implemented, your company or web agency will be very grateful to have it in a full extent of the solution with all the tools set.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hippo CMS is a great software and for that has multiple factors that makes it really different from other similar solutions, but there's one that I see pretty accurate: let stakeholders take charge and take ownership of their content, this give developers a break from these specific tasks. Also, this leads to a content-based CMS approach that either owners or stakeholders would take a look at what Hippo CMS is doing for them.

"Great Program not customer service"

What do you like best?

The PM program is extremely easy to use. You can plug in a ton of information and build an amazing program that any one in the entire company can utilize. Vendor information, Part information, equipment information, schedules, pictures, inventory, the list goes on and on.

What do you dislike?

The time it took to build our program. The company offered us a full turn key product and in the end I had to finish building the program.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Elimination of unscheduled down time.

"Hippo CMS is an open source CMS that should be one of your top considerations"

What do you like best?

Hippo CMS is open source and extremely flexible for developers for that reason. You can develop your own components for stakeholders to create their own documents and own their content.

User management and publication workflow is as you would hope for and expect from a CMS. There are many starting components to help build your site that can also be duplicated and customized. The documentation and "trail" available to download and walk you through setting up a Hippo site are fantastic.

For enterprise clients, the paid components solve many issues in internationalization and personalizing the web experience for customers.

What do you dislike?

If you are not familiar with a content-based CMS, Hippo CMS will take some getting used to. It uses JCR and other underlying technologies are necessary to understand to set up your new customization. If you are coming from a JAVA background, the switch will be less severe.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

For a JAVA content-based open source CMS, Hippo CMS is a top contender for consideration.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

To let stakeholders take charge and ownership for their content (and give developers a break from these tasks) a content-based CMS approach was desired that Hippo CMS could meet.

Being able to internationalize content and target user personas and customized content met the biggest needs and client expectations.

"Best Medium Size Java based CMS I selected based on analysis from other 240 systems."

What do you like best?

Document centric approach

YAML config in latest version

Google groups support

Tutorials

A lot of documentation

What do you dislike?

- No Docker image to start with.

- There is no clear way to REST API to integrate CMS layer with customized UI

- Tutorials are not that precise from time to time, like you follow it but you don't get the result and later on you need to ask questions on hippo forum.

- I had a basic problems when starting the tutorials. It was hard to start a project because of not a lot of information on the website, so of info in tutorials was wrong there were mistakes e.g. in prom files or the setup was intended to use by Hippo Developers only

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having a system to tune a bit and propose as a part of ready solution for organizations that won't just to manage their texts on website

Saves time to not write a lot from scratch.
