**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I like most about Umbraco is its intuitive backoffice and overall flexibility. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, which makes day-to-day content management straightforward for both editors and developers. It is also highly extensible, with good support for custom .NET development, APIs, packages, and third-party integrations. In terms of performance, Umbraco can handle production websites well when the solution is properly optimized with good caching, indexing, and hosting configuration. From a pricing and ROI perspective, the open-source CMS gives a lot of flexibility without a mandatory license cost, while services like Umbraco Cloud can reduce the operational work needed for hosting, deployments, and maintenance. The documentation and community are also helpful when getting started or troubleshooting issues, although there can still be a learning curve for developers who are new to Umbraco or .NET. I also like that the platform is flexible enough to integrate AI services and other intelligent features when a project requires them.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

One downside of Umbraco is that the developer experience can sometimes feel more complex than necessary, especially when dealing with upgrades, package compatibility, and custom implementations. Major version upgrades can require additional testing and development work, particularly for older projects with custom code or third-party packages. The backoffice is generally easy to use, but some configuration and development tasks still require a good understanding of .NET and Umbraco’s architecture, so the learning curve can be noticeable for new developers. I would also like to see even smoother upgrade paths and better visibility around compatibility between Umbraco versions and installed packages.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco helps us manage and maintain multiple websites efficiently while still giving developers the flexibility to build custom functionality when needed. It provides content editors with an easy-to-use CMS, while developers can extend the platform through .NET, APIs, and integrations. This helps reduce development and maintenance effort, makes content updates faster, and allows us to adapt each website to different business requirements without having to build everything from scratch.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Writing as a non technical user, I love how easy it is to use. I don't come from an IT backbround but I find it very easy and intuitive to add content and images and make changes to clients sites as and when they need. It is one of our selling features for promoting Umbraco websites... if I can do it, so can you!
If there isn't the option for something I want to do, my husband can easily write the code to add the feature. It's brilliant!

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I can't really think of any other than if i need a new feature or something doesn't do what I want it to I need to ask for help.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is allowing us to provide a CMS which is easy to use and really low maintenance for our end users. It's just so simple to use and I don't understand why more people don't use it!

  ### 3. Flexible, Developer-Friendly CMS That Shines with ASP.NET Core and .NET

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I like most about Umbraco is its flexibility and developer-friendly approach. It makes it easy to create and manage structured content while still giving developers the freedom to customize the solution based on project requirements. I also like how well Umbraco works with ASP.NET Core and .NET, especially features like Models Builder, APIs, and integration with modern front-end technologies. Overall, it provides a good balance between content management and custom development.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

One thing I find challenging about Umbraco is that some features can take time to understand, especially when working with newer versions and advanced customization. The documentation can also sometimes be difficult to follow for specific development scenarios. However, once you understand the Umbraco architecture and workflow, it becomes much easier to work with.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco simplifies content management by allowing content editors to manage website content without depending on developers for every small change. From a development perspective, it gives me a flexible CMS on top of .NET, making it easier to build custom features, APIs, and integrations. This helps me develop and maintain websites more efficiently while keeping the content management process simple for non-technical users.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Over the 10+ years I’ve been using Umbraco, it has maintained its ease of use for both editors and developers, while still staying on the frontier of CMS technology. Umbraco has also remained free, yet it’s managed to sustain a profitable business model. The paid offerings aren’t cheap, but they deliver strong value for customers.

It’s straightforward to integrate with third-party systems, and Umbraco continues to support a healthy marketplace and ecosystem where contributions are encouraged. Performance is better than ever, with a small footprint on server infrastructure. Umbraco.AI has also remained free (which I wasn’t expecting!), and I’m excited to see how customers use it to speed up onboarding and populating a site with content, as well as general editorial work.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Not much, to be honest. The main challenge I’ve found when selling Umbraco to clients is that it’s still relatively unknown in the market, although that does seem to be changing. I also think the price point of the paid offerings can be a hurdle. For example, Umbraco Engage is very expensive for the level of client I typically work with. I’d love to see an option that allows smaller businesses to take advantage of the system.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco has kept pace with AI, and I’m genuinely proud of them for that. It’s been easy for me to build my orchestration and tooling around it by leveraging Umbraco MCP and the uSync package. The biggest thing it solves for me is speed of delivery - I can now turn around a new build within a couple of hours. This really helps onboard new clients & their content too.

  ### 5. Effortless to Use, Lightning Fast, and Outstanding Support

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

As a daily user of Umbraco, I find it very easy to use. The user interface is clearly laid out, making it simple for new users to learn the CMS quickly, which is especially helpful since I am responsible for training others. We make use of the news and events features on our website, and the way Umbraco automatically renders images is extremely convenient, saving us a lot of time. The load times are probably the fastest I have experienced; moving between content, media, and forms is seamless. Whenever we have encountered issues, the Umbraco team has been quick to respond and resolve our tickets, showing great responsiveness.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Small details, such as the absence of a clear format button when uploading copy to a webpage, can be frustrating. It would be much more convenient if there were an option to upload media—like pictures or documents—in bulk and then adjust all their properties from a single page, rather than having to edit each one individually. This would save a lot of time. Similarly, having the ability to delete or move multiple pages at once would also be a helpful improvement.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We manage the website for a large organization, which means we frequently need to update content. Thanks to how easy it is to use and its flexible styling options, we’re able to meet our clients’ needs quickly and efficiently. Being able to reduce turnaround times allows us to accomplish much more, and it also improves the user experience by ensuring the information we provide is always current.

  ### 6. Umbraco: Clean Backend, Flexible CMS That Saves Time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I've been using Umbraco for over two years now, and even before that, I watched my father work with it for five years — so it's been a platform I've trusted for a long time.

One of the things I appreciate most is how easy it is to design with and edit. The backend is clean and well-organized, and you can get to any element or piece of content quickly without unnecessary complexity. This has saved me a lot of time and effort in my day-to-day work, especially given the nature of the projects I handle.

I've used Umbraco to build more than 12 projects for large companies, and every time, it's proven flexible and capable of handling different requirements without major issues. That stability and flexibility is why I rely on it for almost all of my projects now.

Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone or any team looking for a strong, flexible, and easy-to-use content management system.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

One issue I've run into is when deploying Umbraco to a server — sometimes after making an edit or adding something new to the templates, the changes don't get picked up right away. I end up having to restart the server just to see the update reflected. It's a small thing, but it has been frustrating at times, especially when I'm trying to move quickly on a client project.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco makes it much easier to build and manage content-driven websites for clients without reinventing the wheel each time. Since I build sites for large companies, having a CMS that's flexible enough to adapt to different business needs — while still being easy to edit and maintain — saves me a huge amount of time and effort on every project. Instead of spending extra hours on content management logistics, I can focus more on customizing the site to fit each client's specific requirements. Over the 12+ projects I've delivered with it, that reliability has made my workflow noticeably faster and less stressful.

  ### 7. Free, Open Source, and Extensible—Backed by a Helpful Community

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like that it is free and open source, with a good supporting plugin base to expand its features. The support community is very helpful and engaging in answering simple questions about how to set things up to more complex questions, like how to debug a custom plugin or the code for customization.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The documentation can be hard to find information in and is sometimes confusing or not complete. I think their complete rewrite of the administration interface was rolled out too soon, but they have done a good job of getting it back up to par with the old interface, although there are still functions missing, which have been left up to the community to fix.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco is making it really easy to quickly add new pages to my site to allow me to engage with my users and keep them returning. Before Umbraco, it could easily take a day or two to add a single new page, but now it takes minutes to a few hours, depending on the page's complexity.

Letting Umbraco handle all the major concerns, like securing the administration interface and giving my writers an easy interface to add or update pages, takes a lot of work off my hands and speeds everything up.

  ### 8. Flexible, User-Friendly CMS That Helps Our Team Publish Content Fast

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** August 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I really like the flexibility Umbraco has a CMS compared to other options on the market. The UI/UX is easy enough for technophobes to understand while having more advanced areas - in how content and models are made for example - for web designers / programmers.

We're a content heavy business and its been great that a variety of staff are able to get content up quickly without much leg work.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Umbraco has some great modules you can use for forms, commerce etc. I would say the price point on these can be a little high - especially if team members like the idea but are not 100% sure of how the end result will look. Perhaps better trials / demos that can be shown to stakeholders would help here before pushing the button to buy.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bridge Command is a theatrical experience that requires content like new shows / new actors etc to be put up quickly and easily. Umbraco really helps us to get this benefit with a variety of staff skills in web editing.

  ### 9. Editor-Friendly Back Office and Easy Website Development

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It has an editor-friendly back office and an easy-to-develop website.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

In the latest version, I can’t edit the template page. And not rander in website page

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco decouples content management from the codebase, so content editors can publish and update pages, layouts, and structured data without needing a developer deploy. On the Cleopatra/Shifa healthcare platform, that means the content team can maintain hospital information, doctor profiles, and service pages on their own—freeing me up to focus on features and functionality instead of routine content updates.

It also helps resolve the structure-versus-flexibility trade-off. Document Types keep content organized and predictable for editors, while Compositions let me reuse shared fields and behaviors across multiple content types as the site grows, which helps avoid duplicated structure and keeps things consistent.

  ### 10. Flexible, Reliable, and Developer-Friendly CMS

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

At G2, we prefer fresh reviews and we like to follow up with reviewers. They may not have updated their review text, but have updated their review.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like how flexible and developer-friendly Umbraco is. It allows for full customization while keeping content management simple for non-technical users. The active community and rich documentation make it easier to solve problems and extend the platform.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Umbraco is powerful, but the learning curve can be steep for new users, especially for developers unfamiliar with .NET. Some features that are easy in other CMSs require extra setup or customization here.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco helps us manage and deliver content efficiently across multiple channels while maintaining flexibility for custom development. This reduces the time our team spends on content updates and allows us to create tailored experiences for our users, ultimately improving engagement and streamlining our workflows.

  ### 11. Intuitive, Reliable CMS That Boosts Productivity and Delivers Strong ROI

**Reviewed Date:** October 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I like best about Umbraco is its intuitive and user-friendly interface. As a web content manager rather than a developer, I can confidently create and update content without needing technical expertise. Features such as content scheduling, media management and page editing make day-to-day website maintenance straightforward and efficient, reducing the time needed to publish content and improving our team's productivity.

Umbraco also performs reliably for our organisation, with pages loading quickly in the back office and content updates being easy to manage. The platform integrates well with custom-developed functionality and other business systems, allowing our developers to extend the website to meet evolving requirements.

From a value perspective, Umbraco provides a strong return on investment because content teams can manage large amounts of website content independently without relying on developer support for routine updates. We have also found the onboarding process straightforward, and the active Umbraco community and documentation make it easy to find help when needed.

More recently, it's been encouraging to see AI-powered capabilities being introduced, helping the platform continue to evolve and support more efficient content management workflows.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

While Umbraco is very user-friendly for day-to-day content management, some advanced functionality still requires developer involvement. For non-technical users, certain configuration and customisation tasks can have a steeper learning curve than basic content editing. However, this is generally outweighed by the platform's flexibility and extensibility.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco solves the challenge of managing website content efficiently without requiring technical expertise for day-to-day updates. Before using Umbraco, routine website changes often required developer involvement, which could create delays and additional costs. With Umbraco, our content team can create, edit and publish content independently, allowing us to respond more quickly to business needs.

The platform also provides a flexible foundation for our developers to build custom functionality and integrations while maintaining an intuitive editing experience for content authors. This has improved collaboration between content and development teams and helped us scale and evolve our websites over time.

As a result, we spend less time on administrative tasks, publish content faster, maintain greater consistency across our digital channels, and can focus more on delivering a better experience for our users rather than managing technical complexities.

  ### 12. Great Platform for Content Management, Needs Better AI Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like Umbraco for its ease of interface, where everything's clearly laid out and is generally clearer than many other platforms. I also enjoy being able to create modular components that can be used in multiple places, which helps to cut down on editing time. Umbraco sits in a sweet spot between being easier to work with than Drupal and offering more secure and better features than WordPress.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Sometimes elements end up nested inside other elements, making them very hard to find. I think better AI integration for generating things like alt tags would be helpful. AI suggestions for content areas like meta descriptions, titles, or boilerplate text that fits around the page elements could also be useful.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Umbraco for its secure and easy content publishing, SEO features, and flexibility to tailor solutions for each client. It helps reduce editing time by allowing modular components to be reused.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

From a content editors perspective, it is very easy to use. The out-of-the-box editor components and navigation are very easy to use. The multiple places I've worked we have used the self-hosted plan so pricing was free, which means we didn't have any included support or use any of the newer AI features. The integrations we needed like SEO components and XML sitemaps existed from third-party developers but we always had to do research to see if it was maintained and worked as expected, but we haven't had to make big changes recently (this was back in the Umbraco 10 days) so I believe it's improved a lot, and the flexible settings to create reusable component editing were great

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

This CMS is mainly for websites who either don't need to change things very often (e.g. design elements) as it always needs a developer to build or edit almost everything so it shows on the front-end. Examples include building reusable components to put across lots of pages or a template type. Upgrading was also a fairly major and constant requirement to keep it maintained, and in my multiple companies using umbraco, it took much longer to UAT than some other CMS's.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content editing is as easy as it can be and restrictive so editors can't go off and do their own thing. Its great if you have strict design frameworks that need to be adhered to, but note you have to build every component from scratch

  ### 14. Fast, Familiar .NET CMS with Helpful Community and Client-Friendly Backoffice

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like that it's built on .NET, so it feels like working in a normal C# project instead of a locked-down CMS. Models Builder and the content APIs make development fast, and the backoffice is simple enough that clients can manage their own content without much training. The community is also really helpful when you get stuck.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Major version upgrades are a lot of work, and older packages or custom backoffice extensions often break along the way. It also has a learning curve if you're not already comfortable with .NET. I'd like to see more complete docs and examples for the newest versions.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives our clients control over their own website content while we keep full control over the code and structure. That balance makes projects easier to maintain long term, reduces support requests, and lets us reuse patterns and components across different client projects, so we can deliver faster.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Umbraco has a tree structure related to the website's pages; this makes it easy to find the page you need to change. Each page in Umbraco has the same design as the actual webpage, making it easy to find what you need.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

It can take a little time to get used to adding functionality to a website, e.g. adding data types, then templates/partials to make use of these datatypes, etc.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Once a website is up and running, clients can amend content themselves. This saves a lot of time and energy because otherwise, the client would ask us to make amends.

  ### 16. User-Friendly and Intuitive, but the Media Library Search Needs Refinement

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I find it pretty user friendly and easy to navigate. I don't have the best technical skills/knowledge so finding my way around the Umbraco CMS is pretty intuitive and I've found it straightforward enough to learn how it works within the bounds of what I need it to do.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

In how we use it, I think the Media library function could use refinement. I think it's very easy for things to get lost or mis-filed (not all Umbraco's fault, granted) and then the search function to find things in the media library is not very good at finding things. For instance, one regular-ish media file is an annual report. It would be so useful to have access to a file path to find out where the previous file is located so that I can replace it at the source, rather than have to create a new path. It would also be very useful to have an overt option to download files back from Umbraco to my PC, as the only solution to this involves opening the file in a new tab, then 'Saving As' via the right click menu. Not very intuitive, needs a native solution.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco makes website maintenance pretty simple. Having the drag-and-drop feature for page elements is a huge benefit because it means that I can make small changes to pages when necessary without it needing to be a job for IT.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Umbraco has a great, user-friendly interface that’s easy to navigate and pleasant to use.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

To get enterprise-grade performance, you have to move up to a higher-priced tier.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco provides us with a flexible, user-friendly CMS that lets us build and manage content-rich websites without feeling boxed in by a rigid platform. Its extensibility, backed by a strong .NET foundation, makes it especially well suited to the bespoke digital projects we deliver.

For us, the biggest advantage is the balance it strikes between developer freedom and an intuitive editing experience for clients. We’re able to create tailored solutions while still giving content teams the tools they need to manage their websites independently and with confidence.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I've been using Umbraco for several years, and what I like most is the balance between flexibility for developers and ease of use for content editors. Editors can update content without needing much help, and as a developer, I have the freedom to build custom solutions without feeling limited by the CMS.

Umbraco Cloud has made deployments much smoother and saves us a lot of time when managing different environments. We also use Umbraco Engage, which helps us better understand user behavior and create more personalized experiences for our clients.

The newer AI features and MCP support are a nice addition and have started making some everyday tasks faster. I also like how easy it is to integrate Umbraco with other systems and APIs, which is something we do on almost every project.

Performance has been solid, even on larger websites, and the platform has been reliable. Whenever I've had questions, the documentation and the Umbraco community have been really helpful. There's almost always someone willing to help or share a solution.

Overall, Umbraco has become my preferred CMS because it's reliable, modern, and gives us everything we need to build and maintain websites efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

One area that could be improved is the pricing model for Umbraco Engage. Some clients only need specific features, but they currently have to pay for the full product. It would be great if Engage offered more flexible pricing, allowing customers to choose only the features they need and pay accordingly.

I've also noticed that more clients are asking for personalization and audience segmentation. Making these capabilities more accessible through flexible plans would help more businesses adopt Engage without the higher upfront cost.

Other than that, I haven't encountered any major issues. Overall, I've had a very positive experience with Umbraco.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of the biggest problems Umbraco has solved for us is managing content from multiple systems. In one of our recent projects, the client was using three different content platforms. Managing content across all of them was time-consuming, inconsistent, and difficult for the content team.

We migrated everything into a single Umbraco solution. Now the client manages all their content from one place, which has simplified their workflow, reduced maintenance, and made training much easier for their editors.

From a development perspective, Umbraco's flexibility has also helped us build custom features and integrate with other business systems without being limited by the CMS. Combined with Umbraco Cloud, deployments and content synchronization are much smoother, allowing us to deliver updates faster and with fewer issues.

Overall, Umbraco has helped us reduce complexity, improve the editor experience, and deliver projects more efficiently while lowering the ongoing maintenance effort for our clients.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I like most about Umbraco is its intuitive and flexible operation. Content can be easily managed while the system also offers enough customization options for individual requirements.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

In terms of UI/UX, I find the Card Groups visually not particularly intuitive. Sometimes you have to click a lot just to reach the element you want to edit. Integrations could also be set up more easily and managed more clearly. The performance is generally solid but may require optimization effort for more complex projects. The benefit in terms of pricing or ROI strongly depends on how much development and maintenance effort is required for individual requirements. Practical guides directly in the user interface would be helpful for support and onboarding. Additionally, AI-powered features could be more integrated to create, optimize, and manage content faster.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco allows us to centrally manage content and update it easily without deep technical knowledge thanks to its flexible UI/UX. Integrations allow existing systems and established workflows to be well connected, facilitating collaboration and implementation in everyday life. Overall, the platform offers solid performance and reduces development and maintenance effort through its flexibility. This positively impacts pricing and ROI from our perspective.

Documentation, support, and onboarding assist in getting started but could be more practical and oriented towards real scenarios for more complex use cases. AI-powered features have so far played a minor role for us but offer potential to make content creation and optimization more efficient in the future.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I really enjoy how easy the back end is to navigate, as well as the ability to preview pages before publishing and switch between different screen types. The service is consistently quick and responsive.

The forms included are also straightforward to set up and customise to suit our needs.

I also appreciate that if I’m ever struggling with something, there are online resources available to guide me. And if bigger issues come up, the team’s response to get things fixed is always fast.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Not sure if it's just our site, but sometimes page templates can be clunky and not respond correctly. Such as background colours not going full width until you manually add your page into that page template code.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco is a great platform to edit our website, the ability to give users only certain access is essential for us.

Easy to design and very user-friendly. No code is needed, and everything is in one place, so there’s no real need for tutorials. it integrates perfect - we are using vimeo as an example. The website is performing well - just launched it. Price is within budget. we got our external company to onboard us but htey a´have shown us where to easily find assitance if needed. I have not noticed any AI features in umbraco yet.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

as of now I have nothing negative to say

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used WordPress before, and it was technically difficult for me to use as a marketing manager in the backend. Umbraco is simply easy to understand, which makes it much easier to optimize our webpage.

At G2, we prefer fresh reviews and we like to follow up with reviewers. They may not have updated their review text, but have updated their review.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Umbraco’s flexibility and clean architecture make it one of the easiest CMS platforms to work with. The interface is extremely user-friendly for content editors, and the customisation capabilities are great for developers.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Major version upgrades can be time-consuming, and sometimes third-party packages are needed for common features.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco solves the complexity and heavy setup overhead I’ve experienced with other enterprise CMS platforms like Sitecore XP/XM. It’s extremely easy to install, lightweight, and provides a friendly, intuitive environment for both developers and content editors. This saves time during setup, reduces maintenance effort, and allows teams to focus more on building features rather than managing infrastructure.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

The most helpful part about Umbraco is the drag and drop feature and the UX. Anyone can use the CMS without much prior experience because it's intuitive to use. I also appreciate the extent of the features available and how those help you with creating a modern website that looks and feels great!

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

It can be quite overwhelming the extent of which you can customise your website. But that just means you need to focus a bit more on what you need for each page.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's solving our charities tight resources and making it far simpler to manage our website. As a marketer with only two in our team our time is precious and when the rest of team require updates we need to be able to make these quick. Umbraco's drag and drop feature makes that possible.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like Umbraco’s flexibility and clean editing experience. It gives developers strong control over how content is structured, while remaining straightforward for content editors to use day to day.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The learning curve can be steep for more advanced customisation, particularly for teams new to the Umbraco ecosystem. Some features also require additional packages or bespoke development rather than being available out of the box.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco helps us manage and publish website content efficiently without relying on developers for every routine update. It provides a flexible CMS foundation for different sites and integrations, while keeping content management consistent for editors.

**Source: Organic:** Organic review. This review was written entirely without invitation or incentive from G2, a seller, or an affiliate.

**Reviewed Date:** September 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like Umbraco because it is user-friendly, flexible and easy to manage. It gives editors a clear and intuitive way to create and maintain content, while offering enough flexibility for more advanced needs. It is also reliable and continuously evolving.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Umbraco is a very flexible and user-friendly CMS, but there are some areas where it can be less straightforward. For example, setting up a webshop can require more effort and additional solutions compared to CMS platforms that are specifically designed for e-commerce. For some advanced features, technical knowledge or third-party packages may also be needed.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco makes it easy for our content editors to manage and update website content independently, without always needing technical support. It provides a flexible and user-friendly environment that helps us work more efficiently, keep content up to date and maintain consistency across our websites.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Umbraco has a lot of helpful features, and overall it's easy to use. The system that are web team has set up to use drop down menus and other easily customizable features for setting up our weekly newsletter has been an absolute game changer for that process.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

There's a pretty steep learning curve in some places, especially things that I don't use every day. The search functionality for finding and selecting previous content doesn't do the best job at actually providing the most relevant results, particularly when more than one word is used (pulls old stories or stories that don't actually have the searched words)

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Even though working in Umbraco doesn't make up a significant portion of my job, it's nice to know that I'm capable of taking over certain functions when my colleagues are out. And like I mentioned before, having a template to set up our newsletter in Umbraco with a drop down feature has been a game changer. Setting up the newsletter used to be such a tedious, multi-hour process, but now it's really straightforward, much more streamlined, and easier to tweak as needed when changes are required.

What I value most about Umbraco is the flexibility it provides for managing a large, multilingual website. We manage content across 11 languages, and Umbraco allows us to work with different page templates and content blocks, making it easier to create and maintain a consistent website experience across markets.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

What I dislike most about Umbraco is that certain content management tasks can become time-consuming, especially when managing a large, multilingual website. Working across 11 languages means that even relatively small changes can require a significant amount of manual work.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco helps us manage a large, multilingual website across 11 languages without relying on developers for everyday content updates. Its flexible templates and reusable content blocks allow us to create landing pages, publish articles, manage events and maintain consistent branding across different markets.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I love the most is how the user friendly the back office is for editors. Most CMS platforms require a lot of manual navigation and a lot of time spent on making small manual changes. That's not the case with Umbraco.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Nothing major. The user interface for Umbraco Engage could be improved and the data could update more frequently.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have over 20 editors in Umbraco across our organisation, many of whom are not technical. Umbraco makes it easy for them to make the changes required. In my position as an administrator, Umbraco's customisable user permissions are essential in ensuring all the users have the correct permissions.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It’s flexible for both developers and content editors. Since it’s built on .NET and is open source, it integrates smoothly with our existing stack. The headless option and API support also make it straightforward to connect with Angular.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The UX/UI could be improved with stronger search, filtering, and bulk actions in both the tree and the media library. That would definitely make day-to-day work faster and smoother.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Less developer dependency because editors publish and update content without raising tickets, which saves us time.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I find Umbraco fairly straightforward and stable, which really aligns with web development best practices. The platform's consistency helps me intuitively understand the main concepts and make it easier to train new users. I also think the user interface is fairly good, rating it as a 6 out of 10, and it generally makes taking the right actions simpler and more predictable. The well-architected system stands out as a positive aspect compared to my previous experience with Ektron, which felt dated and complicated.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The UI is not fully consistent, which can be annoying since some actions can be done using the keyboard, but then in the same workflow, there'll be steps that can't. Plus, some notifications block the UI buttons, which is frustrating. Errors in Umbraco are also pretty cryptic and not very helpful, so fixing problems becomes more challenging. On another note, we've had ongoing issues with using usync for scheduling between a staging and production server, which kind of makes scheduling pointless. It's also hard to preview changes without saving or publishing them, which unnecessarily fills up the logs. Comparing different versions is not user-friendly since we have to decipher JSON files, which is confusing for editors. Permissions, too, could be better organized. Overall, the interface needs a bit more consistency. Every feature should have keyboard shortcuts that work everywhere. It would be nice if usync worked with scheduling too. Also, updates like easier page previewing, intuitive change reversals, and a forensic tool to review changes by a person or timeframe would really improve usability.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco simplifies updating website content and makes it easier to train new users by providing a fairly straightforward and stable CMS. Its consistent UI helps users take the right actions intuitively.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I use Umbraco to update content on our healthcare website and for front-end development. It allows us to update the website quickly and delegate editing rights to the wider teams at the company. I find it excellent for document management and replacing PDFs quickly. I also like how easy it is to set up online contact forms.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Sometimes it can be difficult to edit templates. I wish there was more control and the possible use of magic words to include certain functionality.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Umbraco to update the company website quickly and delegate editing rights. It's excellent for document management and setting up online contact forms easily.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I don’t have any major dislikes about Umbraco. If I had to pick something, I’m not a big fan of needing to re-earn a certificate every few years, but I understand that’s part of the business model, and I can respect it.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco (in combination with plugins) helps us put down a lot of basic websites for customers who want nothing fancy. And even if they do want something fancy, Umbraco is easy to extend.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like the delivery API; it provides a structured JSON response that works well for headless development. One suggestion from my side is to provide a secret key (or similar option) to set up a draft version of content in a headless setup. Right now, I’ve had to create a custom API and write some additional code for our client to handle this.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

In headless development, I’m creating a preview for the client, after writing preview api code, and configure in our headless code. it should be inbuilt

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

in case of headless devlopemnt, it should be like a real-time live preview on the basic of componet drop on page.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

Umbraco is very user-friendly and has great features that fit our needs. We use it for multiple websites, and it’s convenient that we can access them all through the same screen. It’s also very intuitive to use, and most of it can be learned as you go.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I don’t have any major pointers. If I had to nitpick, I’d say that adding data to some forms could be a bit smoother, but overall there isn’t much for me to call out.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our previous CMS was a tangled mess of data and pages. Umbraco is much more organised, and that alone saves us a lot of time when managing content.

  ### 36. Flexible and Open Source, But Upgrades Can Be Tricky

**Describe the project or task Umbraco helped with:**

This task involves translating various fields related to the Umbraco platform into multiple languages while maintaining the original meaning and tone.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I use Umbraco for our work on a lot of sites and find its flexibility very appealing. It's great that we can use it for many different types of sites while maintaining a standard shared core. The multi-site capabilities are very useful for our needs. What I like most about Umbraco is that it's open source, which lets us add specific functionality we need, even if it's something very niche that we might only use once. The strong community is also a big plus, as it allows us to utilize functionality created by other users. The initial setup of Umbraco was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Currently we are upgrading our sites, and at times the upgrading process can be annoying. Some components are not backwards compatible.

**Recommendations to others considering Umbraco:**

To improve the upgrade process, consider implementing better backward compatibility for components and providing more detailed documentation to assist users during upgrades.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco is flexible and useful for multi-site setups with a standard core. I can add specific functionalities due to its open-source nature and utilize community-created features. However, I find the upgrade process can be annoying due to the lack of backward compatibility in some components.

  ### 37. Flexible CMS with strong usability and reliable support

At G2, we prefer fresh reviews and we like to follow up with reviewers. They may not have updated their review text, but have updated their review.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

What I like most about Umbraco is that projects can be implemented incredibly smoothly with it. Even complex requirements suddenly seem easy to solve because the system is very clearly structured and you quickly reach your goal. The ease of implementation is one of the biggest advantages – from the initial configuration to ongoing content maintenance, everything works remarkably smoothly. Clients also find their way around well without long training, which significantly simplifies the entire process.

We use Umbraco in almost all web projects because the implementation works so efficiently and the results are reliably convincing. If questions arise, you quickly get competent support – whether through the support team or the active community. Additionally, Umbraco can be seamlessly integrated with other systems, making it a true all-rounder in daily use.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

What is sometimes challenging are smaller details that only become apparent during larger projects – for example, that some extensions or integrations still need some fine-tuning. Updates can also occasionally mean effort if you have implemented very individual solutions.

None of this is a real obstacle, but it shows that Umbraco really plays to its strengths when you work with it regularly and take some time to really get to know the system and configure it optimally.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A major problem that Umbraco solves for us is the combination of technical flexibility and editorial simplicity. Many CMS systems are either very developer-heavy or too limited for complex requirements – Umbraco strikes the perfect balance here.

This allows our clients to maintain content independently and without the need for training, while we as an agency can implement technically demanding setups and integrations without any issues. This saves a tremendous amount of time in projects, reduces support requests, and ensures long-term customer satisfaction and stable solutions.

  ### 38. User-Friendly CMS with Deployment Challenges

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like the layout of Umbraco and how easy to use it is. The authoring layout is pretty easy compared to other CMSs I've used, which makes it a top choice for ease of use. The blocks are easy to use too, and it's been a lot easier to educate other people on how to author, which has been a huge help. The new block tools are very detailed and easy to use, and the site settings block makes it easy for me to update everything at once. I also appreciate that there's a preview mode available.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The biggest pain point for me has been the deployment of the site. Since it's been hard for people to just, I don't know if it's just the way we set it up, but not everyone has access to publish. So it has to go through our developer.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco is easy to use, making authoring layouts simple compared to other CMSs. It reduces client questions about authoring and enables others to take over tasks easily. The easy-to-use blocks help educate others, streamlining the process and saving me time.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It’s open source and extremely easy to extend. The documentation is great and straightforward to understand, and the user interface is customizable, which makes it easier to relate to and use.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Honestly, there isn’t much to complain about. It’s so easy to customize that you can always adjust it to fit your needs.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s great for everyday content handling, scheduling, and planning, and it also lets me connect to just about any system.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It’s easy to create new pages without writing any code, which makes the whole process straightforward. The recycle bin option is also very useful. Mainly open-source and free

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

There’s no test email option. Whenever I want to send a test email to check whether it’s working or not, I can’t.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From Umbraco 13 to the latest version, the security settings for users change.

  ### 41. Highly Scalable and Easy to Use, But the Cloud Version Needs Improvements

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I enjoy the visibility that Umbraco offers me regarding its functionality, which allows me to understand it and make the most of it. I appreciate that it is an Open Source platform, with a large community behind it, which I feel gives it a strong foundation for support and growth. Additionally, I find that Umbraco is quite scalable and flexible, which is a significant advantage for my web projects. The initial setup of Umbraco is very simple, which makes starting to use it a comfortable and hassle-free process.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

The cloud version is currently in a gray area where it is not entirely viable for certain markets.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Umbraco because it is an Open Source platform that offers scalability and flexibility. I also like the visibility it provides to understand and make the most of it.

  ### 42. Intuitive CMS with fast functionality, needs workflow tool improvement

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I love how Umbraco has great functionality, allowing tasks like uploading results to be completed in seconds thanks to simple import/export tools. The user experience is seamless and intuitive, making it easy for everyone to find what they need swiftly. I like that the CMS and frontend are simple to use and the interface is smooth and not clunky. It's also easy to train other staff and the CMS navigation is clear. Plus, it's easy to build pages.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Some challenges with the workflow tool which could be improved to ensure users can easily request publication of their work. There have been errors with it working and not allowing users to request publication of their pages.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I find Umbraco's simple import/export tools save time, turning tasks that took hours into seconds, and the seamless, intuitive user experience helps families, supporters, and professionals find what they need swiftly. Training staff is easy due to the clear CMS navigation.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I use Umbraco to manage content on our website, view client info, and pull client data through forms. Umbraco consolidates a lot of tasks in one place, and the integration of Forms makes managing webinar events much easier. The best part of Umbraco is the admin section; it's clean, refined, and user-first on v17.4.2. It allows us to quickly pull client information up in neatly arranged sections and enables our teams to function as one dynamic unit.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I find that Umbraco tends to be quite slow, meaning some features are either inaccessible or incredibly time-draining for me. The web content editor takes a while to load for me; similarly, so does the admin section.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco consolidates tasks, making managing webinar events and pulling client data easier, and helps our team function dynamically.

  ### 44. User-Friendly but Prone to Breakdowns

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

I like that Umbraco is sometimes really user-friendly and easy to pick up. The initial setup was easy as well.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

It seems to break a lot, and conversion tracking is a huge problem that we still don't have solved. Also, we find that features break often.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco allows us to manage website content and track conversions, providing customers a portal to apply for courses. However, we face issues with conversion tracking and frequently broken features, despite its user-friendliness.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

You can tailor the editor experience to the smallest detail, Umbraco doesn't impose any practises on you, so the end product will fit the client needs, instead of you trying to fit the clients needs to the end product.

In addition to that, you can extend Umbraco in any way possible, making it a great choise for both small and larger projects.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

Steep barrier entry, if you are used to products like WordPress, where you get a lot out of the box. This is probably not a bad thing, because you then don't have to disable all kinds of unneeded features.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco can integrate in any way. I have built sites for all kinds of businesses, automatically importing content from other vendors, and delivering content to 3rd parties.

What I like best about Umbraco is its scalability, flexibility, and ease of use. It provides a great editing experience for content managers while giving developers the freedom to build customized solutions. The platform is reliable, well-supported, and suitable for projects of all sizes.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

While Umbraco is a powerful platform, some advanced features and customizations can require additional development expertise. Major version upgrades may also require careful planning and testing to ensure compatibility.

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Umbraco helps us solve content management challenges by providing a flexible and user-friendly platform for managing websites. It enables faster content updates, reduces dependency on developers for routine changes, and improves overall efficiency. This allows us to deliver better digital experiences while saving time and resources.

**What do you like best about Umbraco?**

It’s easy to access and get started with. The community is great, and the documentation is solid as well.

**What do you dislike about Umbraco?**

I don’t really dislike Umbraco. The only downside for me is every time we have to migrate something for next version. Especially on the frontend backoffice part and for custom packages.. A lot has changed over the years, which makes those migrations more of a hassle. .. but changes are good often

**What problems is Umbraco solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s easy for our customers to use and straightforward for us developers to set up. I also like that it isn’t trying to do more than we need. Compared to e.g. Sitecore, it’s much easier to navigate.
