What do you like best?

Sitefinity is easy to set up and configure. Page management and module creation is straight forward and as a developer it is easy to customize. Site syncing between development and production environment is super easy and helpful allowing changes to be created and published for review and approved before being published. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was more focus on the blogging ability. Seems like a forgotten part of the CMS but many clients often ask for the ability to post blogs and news articles. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is easy to get overwhelmed with everything in the admin, but it's pretty straight forward once you understand where things are, what they do and how to work with them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

The platform is very easy to use and is regularly updated with bug fixes and new/improved features. User permissions are highly granular, meaning we can easily train our content editors to use the platform with introducing risk to more critical areas such as configuration settings. There is out of the box support for a variety of different content types, and these are further customisable to cater for specific needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There are only limited features available to enable thorough content auditing and reporting. This means it it necessary to imlement strict governance around content management processes and procedures to ensure that the database doesn't become clogged with old content (particularly media content). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Sitefinity provides a huge number of features out of the box, and it has improved year on year in our experience. The licensing model is very competitive and the support staff are responsive and knowledgeable. It comfortably sits in the middle ground between open-source, highly adaptable platforms, and higher cost, fully-featured platforms. Deriving best value from the platform will still require software/web development expertise, but at a less intensive degree that more expensive options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Sitefintiy has allowed us to very easily develop dynamic solutions for managing and presenting a wide range of content, such as courses, scholarships, news, events, etc. The multisite capability means we can host an increasing range and variety of sites on a single platform, which helps us reduce costs and support overheads while allowing us to maintain a far greater level of in-house control of our sites and content. What do you like best?

It's a good tool for marketing and business users like any CMS, but what I really like about Sitefinity is that our programmers can extend every aspect of the platform in our native stack to customize it to our exact business needs, which are quite unlike standard marketing or wordpress sites that just manage flat content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It provides a lot of features out of the box that we simply don't need, and those bring a lot of overhead of extra included javascript files or steps to go through. We had to rip out a handful of the default behavior in order to improve efficiency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've used it to give our marketing department a free place to roam and control where they can do whatever pages, articles, content, blogs, news, landing pages, or whatever else they want, on top of a platform where our development team can also work and develop our dynamic applications that deliver unique functionality to our users. What do you like best?

Sitefinity has a great user interface that is intuitive and easy to use for non-technical content editors. The modern UI makes content management easy and fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The only real negative about the platform is the lack of a robust e-commerce system. However, Progress is partnering with best-in-breed e-commerce vendors who have tight integrations with the core platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Become familiar with the features prior to implementation. Choose a Sitefinity certified partner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Sitefinity CMS allows our customers to get to market quickly with new sites and applications that need WCM features. Built in features like news, events, forums, and forms allow us to create compelling sites quickly. The personalization features allow for tailored content for specific types of users. Sitefinity Insight is a newer tool that allows for customer journey analysis, content attribution, conversion tracking and more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Out of the box the number of components available is great. Content management is simple and initiative. The ability to build complex things with the default tools is amazing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

If the default tools don't meet your needs developing custom controls requires a bit of work and research to get right. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The price of this tool can often be a challenge compared to open source options but the quality and ease of use with this product can create great value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The greatest benefit is that with minimal training you can give normal users access to this tool to edit the content without the need to know a lot of HTML, CSS, javascript, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have no dislikes at this time as this was a simple website setup for our Marketing team and the ability for them to manage the site and make their own changes helps meets the Business needs without IT holding them back from changes Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Sitefinity makes it easy to create customizations using the .NET framework. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The ADFS integration is a fairly recent addition and is not as intuitive to use as it could be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If engaging third party help to customize Sitefinity, double check the quality of the code provided. It's very easy to hide poor quality work in the code files that won't become apparent until much later. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

My favorite feature of Progress Sitefinity CMS is that it doesn't put any constraints on my designs. Since it uses .NET MVC I have complete control over the markup sent to the browser. Creating a responsive website that adapts to smartphones, tablets and desktop screens was incredibly easy and didn't require any proprietary tools, just standards-compliant HTML and CSS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The only complaint I have is related to the licensing. I would like to be able to add more back-end users but I am limited by the license edition, the only way to increase the number of back-end users is to upgrade to a higher license edition, which is costly, because it adds additional features which we will not use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Utilizing Sitefinity's extendable custom modules allowed us to create custom content types which we can expose to additional web apps we manage using the built-in Web Services. This has allowed our Communications Dept. to manage the messaging displayed to users of these web apps with little to no involvement of our IT dept. Prior to implementing Sitefinity we would have to submit the updated content to IT, they would have to add it to the web app templates and then re-deploy the app. Now, it's simply a matter of creating the content, assigning the corresponding category or meta-data and publishing the content! What do you like best?

We have implemented Sitefinity as the CMS of choice for various website projects. One of the huge considerations we have when choosing a CMS for our clients is the ease of use and the capability to integrate with external (3rd Party) systems easily. Sitefinity ticks both those boxes. It is extremely easy to use for our clients but still gives our developers the ability to customize where we need it. When used with the Digital Experience Cloud (DEC) that progress offers, it's an excellent marketing tool - top to bottom. We also evaluated the cost of Sitefinity against some other solutions and for the license and implementation fees, it was a no-brainer. Other CMS systems costing 2-4x as much could not compare. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The customer/vendor community is small, so there are limited options outside of Progress for support. This will get better over time, but it is to be noted. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Work with the page editor and the back end of the system - see how you like it compared to other Content Management Systems. Does it feel like everything is organized naturally where it should be? pages under pages, content under content, marketing in the marketing menu? If you can do some tasks, without a manual or instructions - that is a good sign. At the end of the day, most of these CMSs are using the same underlying code (ASP.Net) - it's the user interface how easy to use for the end-user that will make a huge impact on the ROI. It also helps that you will have happy users and fewer support tickets! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Empowering our cusomters and clients to update their own websites. Reducing support calls/tickets so we can focus on developing great solutions for our customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The tech support response and knowledgebase Sitefinity provides helps a lot with setup and development. The documentation is thorough and some of the video tutorials are helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Documentation is not updated as frequently for use cases found in the knowledgebase. Learning curve can be steep for back end development. Training for front end users can be difficult for most users with no technical background or CMS experience. Upgrading old Sitefinity projects can be a pain when troubleshooting errors (errors can be unique or related to each environment, such as windows server version, IIS version, .net and configs etc). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Must have the time to learn or implement the system to customize it to your liking. If you already have products that are using .NET, C#, or MVC this product will be easy for you to implement. Must have some knowledge in .NET, IIS, and Windows SQL. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Custom migration of data from different CMS, personalization, dynamic content development and SSO authentication implementation. Sitefinity provides a lot of APIs to use and a lot of code samples. Their Github repository helped a lot but troubleshooting some proprietary Sitefinity methods may be difficult without actually seeing the code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I like best the page editor, the permissions model, and the ability to organize assets like images and documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Upgrades can be troublesome and end-user features are getting lost in the transition from web forms to MVC. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure your implementer, or your internal team, follows standard procedures and best-practices. Otherwise you could end up with something that works today but becomes very difficult to upgrade and maintain. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Sitefinity to build complex websites, usually with protected (member only) content, elaborate search features, and user-friendly designs. Sitefinity lets our developers work effectively and our client editors manage their content smoothly.

Sitefinity has a robust permissions feature that lets editors restrict content to users having certain roles. This applies to both the back-end editor experience and the front-end access experience. It applies to all types of content - pages or groups of pages, post-type content like news or blogs, and documents like PDFs.

The makers of Sitefinity have introduced in recent years enhancements to the personalization features so that editors can personalize the experience of their visitors based on a variety of factors.

The ability to manage and organize document assets like PDFs in different document libraries is a particular strength of Sitefinity over other popular CMS's like WordPress.

The drag-and-drop page editor experience can't be beat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The Sitefinity GUI is very friendly, and easy on the eyes. This makes it an easy platform to use for hours. The layout of all the capabilities is also very intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some of the previewing capabilities while one is working on a page are very basic. This doesn't allow one to visualize the final result of how a widget will be rendered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is a very powerful tool, so make sure that you have the need for it. The different licencing levels also allow for some more advanced capabilities like personalization and multi-site management. It can get you many of the higher end features without a lot of deployment complexity. Don't consider this if you have ecommerce needs, it's an area of functionality that Progress is receding. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Sitefinity is the CMS for our corporate site (smartercommerce.net), but our organization also partners with Progress Software to provide Sitefinity CMS as the front end to our JD Edwards integrated ecommerce solution. However, I am a user of the software, because I manage the corporate site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The fact that Sitefinity already includes so much functionality plus providing developers with everything to build custom implementations is just fantastic. Being able to use Visual Studio to customize it even further is excellent. We have been able to add custom modules easily, modify existing ones and even add 3rd party components to enrich the experience for CSRs and customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It is somewhat slow when launched for the first time. It was very frustrating when Progress announced they would retire the e-commerce module in favor of 3rd party solutions, however, the existing e-commerce functionality still works even with the newer versions so that hasn't really affected much, but there won't be no new features added. Finally, they have a multitude of tables and lack documentation on them to troubleshoot issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure to evaluate all the modules of the product to be able to make an informed decision when purchasing. Adding modules later is not technically challenging but licensing wise could get expensive. This is a software built with Microsoft .NET technologies so also ensure you have the resources to support the development and customization of the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our customers in the healthcare industry benefit by being able to integrate their internal systems with Sitefinity to provide the public with a robust system to present their information. We have a custom module for CSRs where they can help their customers with events and class registrations. They can even impersonate them to complete their registrations and payments. What do you like best?

I really appreciate the user interface that makes it easy to build new pages, drag content modules into them, and architect the structure of the site and the configuration options needed.

As a developer, it was relatively easy to add new custom components for end users to work with, as well as leverage the existing web service architecture in order to create custom services for my needs.

Documentation was very helpful in adding new customizations or working with existing modules (blog, users, etc.) of the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The CodeSync tool that is available needs a lot of work. It seems like it's versioning does not play nicely when you're using code stored in bitbucket or when you have a muti-user team working and deploying updates. Ultimately I went back to using a simple "xcopy deploy" method.

Documentation for advanced coding needs (such as custom user widgets) was lacking and a lot of trial and error was needed to accomplish what was briefly mentioned in documentation. More coding examples for those would be helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Make sure you have your site architecture and layouts in mind before digging deep so you can easily plug in your custom components once you get started. Take advantage of the new "Feather" platform/module that has been released that allows you to build Bootstrap based components within the site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used Sitefinity to create a fresh looking site for a customer that made it easy to modify content and reorganize the large amount of pages they had. I used the custom widgets and modules to tie in to a third party database of the clients and render dynamic content to end users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
