Modules are uniformerly structured and users are up and running easily. The ability to define granular roles and permissions, define workflow as well as its many out of the box features allows it to be customised to meet various client needs. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** Having rolled out 50+ sites on Sitefinity I can say the product is poorley supported by the authors and community. Support forums go years with the same issues that are never resolved. The marketplace is almost non existant. When things go wrong, they go very wrong and you require a developer to jump in (and Sitefinity developers are few and far between). **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sitefinity is a robust and intuitive content management solution that is expandable and works well with large and complex sites. It is however quite overpriced for smaller projects that could get away with an open source alternative. ### 2. To many upgrades. The license agreement requires the generator tag which announces an attack vector to hacker. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:** None **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Hosting marketing sites, it does not have to be involved in most content updates, though this is the same benefit as all CMSs. ### 3. Previewing your work is fast and easy. Syncing between environments/sites is easy. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** Still running on old Net2.0. Can't add bullets to content blocks with new UI. The fonts inside content edit screens are too small. There's no need to have spell check run on an HTML box. Lots of little stuff. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** E-commerce and personalized user experience are the next frontier and Sitefinity knows that. ### 4. Our documents change a lot, and this makes managing them very simple. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** I am not a fan of the inability to easily find and replace site content. The CMS stores all of the data in a database, so replacing specific lines of text is a chore to say the least. We also have multiple environments, and our content links are specific to each environment (such as QA to QA, and Production to Production). We had to get a custom URL rewriting widget created just to have variable links on each environment. It was a costly chore and something they should have thought of out of the box without needing costly customization. Upgrading from one version to the next is also painful. It is worse then a new install. The databases need to be rebuilt and a ton of new files need to be installed. It was a difficult upgrade process and we are now worried about doing it again as the versions change constantly. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:** Give it a test run and see if you like it. It is very difficult to customize and upgrading to the latest version is a major project. We would probably not use this if we had to start over from scratch. The difficulty of keeping it up to date and not having a C# developer in our group makes using this CMS a chore. We have specific problems and issues more than other companies, so it may work better for others then it does for us. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Not as many as we had hoped. The WYSIWYG doesn't make it so that non-coders can update content. We still need to have HTML knowledgeable people making the updates. ### 5. Developers have to do everything custom because out-of-the-box widgets are very limited. Example you can't add multiple buttons to the Card widget so we had to build a custom widget for that. The problem with customer widgets is that they are built in AngularJS with is an outdated technology so these custom widgets will have to be rebuilt in the near future. Sitefinity NEEDS to keep up with current technology. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:** Do you research. Don't like that customer widgets use AngularJS so would only recommend for basic sites that don't need much customization. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** Making sites easier to build for our marketing teams and add personalized customer experiences on our sites. ### 6. Great from a user perspective. The drag and drop interfaces for managing and creating content, particularly in page templates, is excellent. Clients' reaction to seeing the UI for the first time is almost universally positive. I also really like the introduction of Feather - it allows developers to use the MVC framework in ways that are much truer to the framework - as opposed to feeling like it is just pasted on the top. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** There are several things within the programming model that leave a lot to be desired. One of the most significant is in how you access data through the API when you are in multi-site mode. They use a concept of data providers that are seeming arbitrary, which complicate accessing data significantly. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are a solutions provider, so we are typically creating Sitefinity websites for clients. ### 7. There's apparently only one in Canada, and the user base is fairly small. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** We switched from Joomla to Sitefinity. Sitefinity review from a developer **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Hristina T. | Software Consultant, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2016 **What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?** There are lots of controls provided by Sitefinity CMS, which can be useful to you if you're developing your amateur website, for example - a website with cooking recipes, or one where you show your pets to the community, or just your personal blog. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** The customization of any of the Sitefinity default widgets is a very unpleasant experience. I can give you a good number of examples. The one issue that took me the most time to resolve is customizing the contact form widget. You can use the provided widget only if you want the customer to give you his/her basic contact info written in a text field. Everything else behaves in an unexpected way (a more detailed example - the file upload field works only with web forms, but not with MVC, and we have to agree that MVC is what most of the clients want). There are plenty other issues but I won't go into detail about them unless you want to hear about them. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:** Do not use it if you want to have many customizations. If your intention is to have a non-professional website, then go ahead. It provides a nice drag-and-drop opportunity which will be useful to you if you're not an experienced .NET programmer. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've been migrating our company's corporate website from WordPress to Sitefinity. Progress Sitefinity CMS - A Developer Review **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Logistics and Supply Chain | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2016 **What do you like best about Progress Sitefinity?** The integration with .NET MVC technology and the ability to create custom widgets in C# makes it a nice platform to extend and integrate with existing code bases developed with similar technologies. The ability to use C# also allows our business to reuse in house knowledge and resources. **What do you dislike about Progress Sitefinity?** Sitefinity Administration can be somewhat cumbersome and limited. The Administration module has thousands of settings and not always intuitive what all of them do or affect. The Email Campaign and Issue seems limited. My marketing department wants more information about Email Campaigns that Sitefinity does not seem to provide. An example is that Sitefinity reports over 2,600 emails delivered in about 3 seconds flat, when in fact the emails are still being processed by the mail server. As a developer I realize the technical challenge, but my business owners interpret status "Delivered" as "sitting in recipients Inbox". In reality it means Sitefinity executed the "SendMessage" method. If there are any internal errors while processing emails it's difficult to get any information without parsing log files. Another mystery to me is the background process that Sitefinity uses to perform some operations. It's tied to the IIS Worker Process. Iif that process fails, it doesn't seem to do a very good job of picking up where it left off. If you don't check the log file frequently you are not aware you are having issues. **Recommendations to others considering Progress Sitefinity:** Please make sure that you communicate to Sitefinity your goals and architecture to understand if integration is possible. Potentially asking them to provide a cloud environment to test on. **What problems is Progress Sitefinity solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are creating content for one of the larger Fast Food Chains in North America. We are delivering content via our website and using email campaigns to track efficacy. ### 14. Even if you are doing a simple marketing web site I would recommend going else where.
