I was an ActiveCampaign user for 8 years, from 2017-2025. It was fantastic - the functionality was very robust - the most robust I've ever seen. To the point where I started relying on email marketing as the main revenue driver for my business.

So why am I giving it a 1-start review?

Because in late 2025, my account was shut down for no reason, and without warning. When I tried to log into my account, I just got an error message. I had to reach out to support to find out what happened.

At first, I thought it was an ActiveCampaign-wide problem. I waited a day, and tried again. No luck. I waited 2 days and tried again. Still no luck. After 3 days, I started to panic, and emailed customer support. It wasn't an ActiveCampaign problem. It was just my account.

When I emailed customer support, they said they're looking into it. When I asked for a deadline, they didn't commit to anything. They usually get back to me quickly, but another couple of days had passed by, I've already lost a lot of money because of this outage, and still no luck.

By this point, I started looking into other email marketing providers. By the time they got back to me, I already created an account at a different email marketing provider.

When they got back to me, they told me that they're taking so long because it's the holiday season. First of all, bad excuse. The number of days off during the holidays are two: Christmas and New Years.

Second of all, a lot of businesses (their customers) make the most sales during the holidays. This is not the time to work less hard on their end.

Another couple of days had passed by (I had already started using the other email marketing software), and they told me that it was a mistake on their end that my account was shut down automatically. They reinstated my account, but by then it was too late.

This was extremely poorly handled. If my account was shut down, I should have immediately received an email, explaining the situation, and something is being done about it. They should have also been a lot less casual about it.

For a business that relies heavily on email marketing, a mistaken shut down should have been top priority.

After everything was resolved, as a gesture, ActiveCampaign refunded me for one month of usage. Nice gesture, but I lost a lot more money than that, and I spent a lot more money than that on migrating everything from ActiveCampaign to the new email marketing software. One area that could be improved in Lemlist is the process of extracting campaign lead reports. Sometimes we create a campaign and later want to export the leads into an Excel spreadsheet, but the process can be a bit difficult or not very intuitive. A simpler and more direct way to generate and download campaign reports would make the workflow much easier.

Another point is related to the lead search system. In some cases, Lemlist finds a contact during the search process, but when we add that lead to a campaign, the platform charges credits for the email and phone number even when the system cannot actually find the email address or when the person is no longer working at that company.

Four years as a paying customer. I downgraded my plan, and Mailchimp deleted all survey response data from three active business surveys. No warning during the downgrade. No option to export first. The data is gone.

I contacted support. First response: "not possible to recover." I escalated, asking for a senior engineer, an explanation, and backup recovery. That was over a week ago. No response. I submitted a second ticket through the web portal. Also no response.

The survey data was submitted by third parties for my business operations. It wasn't mine to lose, and it wasn't Mailchimp's to delete.

The audit permission level doesn't allow you to view flow designs, which isn't consistent with how other ESPs handle it - that's kind of irritatating when auditing potential client accounts. The two-step limit on pop-ups is restrictive, and adjusting image sizes within the pop-up builder is more difficult than it should be. Also having a deliverability 'score' section from 1-100 would be great. The analytics could be improved as well, but I have faith Omnisend will make these changes overtime. One thing we observed is that sync timing and field mapping occasionally need monitoring, especially wen dealing with large or fast moving datasets. There were moments where updates didn`t reflect instantly or required a quick check to confirm everything aligned correctly. The main areas where I think there's room for improvement are the SMS experience and the reporting dashboards. The SMS functionality feels a little underdeveloped compared to the email side of things it could be more intuitive and better integrated into the overall campaign workflow, so it feels like one seamless experience rather than a separate add-on.

The dashboards are useful but can feel a bit clunky at times. I'd love to see more flexibility in how you can view and customise your reporting being able to pull the metrics that matter most to you in a cleaner, more visual way would make a real difference to how quickly you can act on insights.
