“Xero’s Simple UI and Automated Reconciliation Save Us Tons of Time”
What do you like best about Xero?

As an accountant, I take care of many research projects in our department; previously, we used Excel and Tally only, but it used to create many difficulties for me. In terms of its user interface, Xero impresses me in terms of simplicity. Everything that one requires is easily accessible, without any hassle at all. The dashboard provides a brief overview of finances, which comes in handy when the HOD suddenly calls for a brief overview of finances.

What saves a lot of time in this software is reconciliation, which is automated in our case, because we've integrated our bank feed. Usually, everything matches up automatically; however, one has to go through the list and confirm by clicking 'Ok.' We've also integrated the software with Stripe for conference registration fees paid by foreign participants, which makes everything automatic. Finally, I find it helpful when I need to ask the AI bot JAX some questions such as: "How much have we spent on the DRDO project this month?"

Onboarding was easy as well. I am not a CA; I am just a normal admin. It took me half a day to get everything done by following the onscreen prompts. What's more, their pricing was really good because of their special offer compared to what others were asking for. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Xero?

It seems the mobile application could use some improvement. If I just want to check my balance, the app works fine. However, if I need an itemized list of project expenses, the current layout doesn’t really support that, so I end up having to access the account on a PC.

Another issue I’ve run into with the accounting software is related to how our department manages different grants. While Xero lets us track expenditures by project, it’s quite difficult to create a detailed utilization report that compares budget and expenditure in a single table. At the moment, I export the data and build a custom report in Excel for the principal investigator.

One last point is pricing: the price list is shown only in USD, which means the cost depends on the current exchange rate. Having an option to pay the monthly fee in rupees would have helped in my situation.

As for customer support, the articles section works well for routine questions. But when I had an issue with a tax code for one of our sponsored projects and needed to submit a ticket, it took about two days to get an appropriate response. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Xero solving and how is that benefiting you?

I’m currently learning accounting software as part of my coursework at Manipal University Jaipur, and Xero has been introduced as the practical tool we use in our finance lab. Before this, the main issue was that we focused almost entirely on theory—ledgers, reconciliation, GST filing—from textbooks, with little to no hands-on exposure to a real cloud-based platform that businesses actually use. Xero bridges that gap.

It gives us a safe sandbox where we can practice using dummy company data: connecting bank feeds, matching transactions, creating invoices, and running reports. Because of that, I’m now much more comfortable navigating a proper accounting interface, not just Tally or spreadsheets, and that confidence should directly help when I step into an actual job.

It has also made concepts like multi-currency grants and automated reconciliation feel practical and real, rather than just exam topics. What do you like best about Sage Intacct?

You can customize pretty much everything, which helps the software work the way our business needs it to. We rely on a lot of smart rules to link data together, and that flexibility makes a big difference in day-to-day workflows. There are also a ton of integrations available. For example, we integrate Ramp for AP and Ripping for payroll. Lastly, the intercompany accounting is great: we can pay bills from any entity, and the intercompany engine handles the work of allocating expenses to the correct entity, regardless of where the bills are paid. What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?

The fixed asset module is not internally developed, and it feels clunky and not very intuitive. We are in the real estate business and have a lot of fixed assets, and we’ve struggled to find solutions that work well for our workflow. They also seem slow to roll out new features. I understand they are working on a new, internally developed fixed asset platform that will be fully integrated with the Sage workflow, but it hasn’t been rolled out yet, and I believe it has been well over a year—possibly two. - the workflow is customisable hence any information we need can be sistematically collected about any new contract / renewal, and approval flows are transparent and robust

What do you like best about QuickBooks Online?

What I liked most about QuickBooks Online was how effectively it centralized invoicing, expense tracking, reconciliation, reporting, and operational accounting workflows into one cloud-based platform. In daily work, handling financial tracking manually across spreadsheets and disconnected systems created delays and unnecessary reconciliation effort. QuickBooks Online simplified that significantly by keeping transactions, invoices, bank feeds, and financial visibility organized in real time.

The bank-feed synchronization, invoice management, bulk uploads, and reporting dashboards were especially valuable because they reduced repetitive manual accounting work and improved accuracy during operational tracking. The integrations with banking systems, payment tools, and operational software also improved workflow coordination considerably. I also appreciated the UI/UX because newer users could adapt quickly without requiring extensive accounting expertise.

Another strong advantage was the cloud accessibility. Teams could review invoices, expenses, and financial summaries remotely without requiring installation-heavy desktop environments. What do you like best about Shopify POS?

I really like the ability to take in person orders from the palm of my hand via an iPad or iPhone with the Shopify POS app. If you use a newer iPhone you can even take tap to pay payments with your phone without the need for any extra hardware. I can customize the POS screen fully with discounts, custom tiles, shipping options, and more. Compared to traditional POS systems with clunky hardware this is incredible. We use Shopify POS across multiple iPads when we go to trade shows. We can use it with wifi, starlink, or offline. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Shopify POS?

There are two things that cause us issues with Shopify POS. First, if you get logged out of your Shopify account while at a show it can be difficult to get logged back in quickly especially if you have 2FA enabled, like we do. I understand the security aspect, but we need access in a hurry and never know if/when we will get logged out by the system. Second, setting orders to ship instead of in person sales can be tricky. What problems is Shopify POS solving and how is that benefiting you?

Shopify POS is solving the issue of making in person sales at trade shows and events that our company attends. We attend many off-road, motocross, racing, and remote events that don't really have a place to set up a traditional computer for sales. Our team can easily walk around with an iPad or phone and complete transactions from anywhere without the need to sit down at a desk. What do you like best about Rillet?

Starting from implementation the experience was amazing! I've been part of ERP implementation projects that have taken 12+ months, whereas we were live in ~9 weeks. The implementation team was really knowledgeable and took the time to understand our processes and help us design / build the system that would scale with us.

We've been able to reduce our timeline to reconcile cash from 5 days to 1 day leveraging cash rules and AI-enabled cash matching automation. This as well as the native subledgers for previously manually tracked prepaids, fixed assets, and deferred revenue, have allowed us to reduce our month-end close timeline from 12-14 business days down to 5-6 business days.

Also, the customer support team at Rillet is fantastic! They do a great job of listening to customers, understanding pain points, and offering solutions at an incredible pace. I've worked with other software solutions where it's nearly impossible to get a hold of a support team member, so this was definitely a game-changer. The UI/UX is overall really clean and easy to use. That said, there are a few improvements that could make simple drill-downs or filtering data a bit easier and more intuitive. Since it’s a newer platform, there are definitely areas that can still be refined, but whenever I’ve raised something with our support team, they’ve been great about taking feedback seriously and offering a solution. Our company facilitates peer-to-peer lending and we are perhaps the largest in the country. So naturally we handle a large number of transactions on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This leads to a lot of data being generated. To manage and reconcile this data, we are using Kosh.
