Complete e-commerce platform **Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2017 **What do you like best about Shopify POS?** There are a lot of great built-in features like a blogging platform, online & in-store POS system, comprehensive third party application integration, extensive pre-built themes & app store and finally (but most importantly) excellent customer service and support. **What do you dislike about Shopify POS?** Because the platform aims to keep its functionality easy to use for everyone there are some limited functionalities like B2B wholesale options are lacking and a few of the more in-demand apps are costly on top of the fees Shopify charges. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify POS:** If you have some technical know how and a smaller shop, Shopify pricing will be expensive. If you want to focus on running & marketing your store (and prefer known monthly costs), then Shopify’s pricing will actually be a an incredible value. You don’t have to hire developers or a technically savvy SEO consultant to take care of things like Google Merchant Center or Schema. Every ecommerce platform is going to have a learning curve, but I found that Shopify has a slightly steeper curve just because the jargon the use is slightly off. **What problems is Shopify POS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Wanting to provide another channel of revenue in addition to two brick and mortar locations. Also many of our customers want to have ease of ordering where they can have their products ready for pick up before coming to the location. Some of the products we sell are things people want a recurring shipment so using the shopify platform with an add-on app to make this possible has provided a really good user experience for most of our customers. From the analytic side of things it has been really helpful to learn more about the products our customers and visitors are most interested in and what content we should expand. ### 2. Shopify support is also really responsive. **What do you dislike about Shopify POS?** Shopify themes are very limited and cost a lot. It's hard to get good support for the themes – the ones I have tried have limitations or glitches, which affect the functionality, user experience, and end up hurting sales. Many themes are not very customizable on the front end – knowledge of CSS/HTML is almost necessary if you want certain design elements just the way you want them. Ideally, I would love to see Shopify create ways to integrate their POS system into sites built with WordPress or Squarespace. If they ever do that, I would definitely recommend Shopify! **Recommendations to others considering Shopify POS:** If you are able to use a different CMS website builder, such as Squarespace or WordPress, I would highly recommend doing so. It will save much time and frustration in the future. At this time, Shopify is the only CMS website system that manages both in store and online purchases. The number of transactions we had definitely varied day to day. We switched from a Square POS to Shopify based on a few factors, the main being that we were trying to move in an E commerce direction. Shopify made it easy across the board for our in store sales and our online store. **What do you dislike about Shopify POS?** When we had a strong Wifi connection, we never had any issues! However, sometimes when we were on the go, we would have some tech issues. Granted-- this could be related to network connectivity, but sometimes we were unable to load the app completely. For any of our outside events, this was an issue, and we usually had at least one a week. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify POS:** It is easy to use from any smart phone ,as well as online. We used our phones to ring up our customers, so it was always handy having it ready to go at any time! **What problems is Shopify POS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The Shopify POS was slightly cheaper for the cost of the business than that of our prior POS system. When we launched the new website, it made more sense to have the same POS system as our E commerce system. It does provide all the basic necessities. **What do you dislike about Shopify POS?** The site could use A LOT of improvements, especially when you are trying to do more than just record transactions. I found that we had to look to Shopify apps to get to where we need, and even then, the majority of the apps required a monthly fee, just adding to our expenses when really Shopify should already have said functions. Also it is very hard to customize reports to exactly how you want it, I found myself going to different areas of the site to gather information and then consolidating it together, which took A LOT of time. The customers data section should be easily integrated with transactions, but that's just not the case. You also cannot easily edit transactions once it goes through, very inefficient. Also the free app that helps edit the order, only messes up the records in Shopify by duplicating transactions. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify POS:** Be wary of its limited use of functions, but great for small businesses starting out. **What problems is Shopify POS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Shopify is good for recording transactions. The only problem that we solved was adding a free app to help sort through delivery options. Without a POS, merchants who want to operate an online store and a brick-and-mortar shop often have to keep track of two different inventories, product catalogs, and payments systems. The Shopify POS and ecommerce systems operate on the same platform, allowing updates to be made instantly across both platforms. Today I was ringing someone up at the store, and I realized that I could save shopping carts on my POS iPad. I use the Product Customizer app primarily. And there are a few tweaks that i wish they'd make - I wish there was an in-store pick-up option, and the ability to make some items non-shippable. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify POS:** Make sure to designate your products with Vendors and Categories, so you can run detailed reports. I use the vendors section for something completely different than vendors.
