**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

We have a crazy high return rate from loyal customers using smile. They find it so easy to use, and it instantly increased repeat sales. Folks now stay with us for the long run, and it's contributed to my business feeling more like a community than just an e-comm fly by night. As a founder, I love offering the rewards to those who stick with us, helping bring down the cost of goods for them...which in this economy is everything. It's a win- win for both parties!

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

Haven't experienced a downside. It's been pretty seamless.

**What problems is Smile.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to Smile we had a lot of one and done customers; folks that scan the internet trying to always find the absolute cheapest price on a product. Even if another company offered it $1 cheaper, off they went. With Smile, I don't have to neurotically keep up with the fluctuating market because my customers are loyal due to their rewards and the benefits of being loyal. This makes my job so much easier as a founder, and I love feeling like I am also 'helping' my repeat customers save.

**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

I really like how easy Smile.io is to set up and use. It integrated with my Shopify store quickly, and I was able to launch a loyalty program without any technical work. My customers enjoy earning points and redeeming rewards, and I’ve noticed an increase in repeat purchases since using it. I also love that I can customize the branding so it fits my store’s look. Their support team has been helpful whenever I’ve had questions, which is great for a small business.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The only thing I dislike is that some advanced features require a higher-tier plan, which can be tough for a small business budget. It would also be nice if customers noticed the rewards widget more easily without us having to point it out. But overall, the core features work really well and the benefits definitely outweigh the drawbacks

**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

The backend dashboard is very clean and intuitive — setting up your loyalty program, tracking points and customer activity feels straightforward without needing heavy technical tweaks.

It integrates nicely with Shopify, which means less friction for day-to-day setup and management. 

It offers a lot of standard reward-actions (purchase, referral, VIP tiers, etc) so you get good value out of the box.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

One limitation I’ve noticed is the difficulty in running highly targeted bonus points promotions, such as highlighting a specific product range for an extra points event. The program rules seem somewhat rigid in this area and don’t offer as much flexibility as I’d like.

Additionally, some of the more advanced customization and segmentation options are only available on higher-priced plans. This can leave smaller or niche stores feeling restricted in what they can do.

While this may not be your primary concern, it’s also worth mentioning that many users have pointed out the free and lower-tier plans lack detailed reward-rule options. This is especially noticeable if you want to set up rewards at the SKU or collection level, rather than applying them across the entire store.

I was looking for a loyalty system that was both functional and easy to set up quickly. This solution fulfilled those requirements.

The platform includes all the essential features needed to build a well-structured and effective loyalty system. It is easy to set up, flexible, and provides everything required to create a high-quality customer experience.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The pricing plans are not very flexible — there is a low-cost entry plan with very limited features and then a much more expensive advanced plan. Unfortunately, there is no mid-tier option, which makes it difficult for medium-sized brands to find the right fit.

Another issue is within the referral system: there is no way to control which discounts can or cannot be combined with referral rewards, which feels like an unusual oversight.

In addition, the customer support is very slow — slower than we’ve experienced with almost any other Shopify app. For a market leader in loyalty systems, this is surprising. It often feels like there are too few support managers for the number of clients they have, which gives the impression that the company is cutting costs on customer service.

Smiles help me check the reward points of the customer. It's easy to adjust points manually when necessary. It's easy to navigate even without proper training on how to use it. It helps me a lot to provide good customer service.

So far, I can only see the positive side.
I have no training with the app, but it's easy to navigate its features.

It solves managing reward points. It allows me to track points easily when a customer inquires. It gives me an option to refund the discount code in cases the customer accidentally redeemed it.

Smile.io is incredibly easy to integrate and manage within Shopify, and it provides an immediate boost in customer engagement. The interface is intuitive, and setting up rewards, VIP tiers, and referral programs takes just minutes. We love how customizable the program is—it fits perfectly with our branding and allows us to incentivize repeat purchases without needing a developer. The analytics dashboard gives us clear insights into how many customers are earning and redeeming points, making it easy to measure ROI. Plus, the customer experience is seamless—our shoppers understand it right away, which drives more loyalty and repeat business.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

While the platform works great overall, there are a few limitations that could be improved. Some of the redemptions, like Free Product, can only be applied to 1 listing. IF you have multiple listings for similar products you have to make multiple redemptions.  Reporting could also be a bit more detailed—more segmentation or filters for specific timeframes would be helpful. Lastly, we wish there were more automation triggers available natively (like rewarding customers for specific behaviors beyond purchases or birthdays).

It simplifies the entire loyalty process—customers automatically earn points for actions they’re already taking, like making purchases, following us on social media, or referring friends. That engagement has directly increased our repeat order rate and average order value. It’s also reduced our dependence on constant discount promotions because shoppers are motivated by earning and redeeming points instead.

Lack of analytics and reporting. Cost expensive for entry.

The interface is easy to use and I can manage my customers points easily. it has integration for my customer to use the points either for voucher redemption or product redemption.

there are customer that key in wrong email address in the order and thus the order linked email is wrong, and I not able to move the customer order to the new email address. although points can be added manually to the new email. but not able to track it is from which order afterward.

**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

So far, Smile.io has been a great tool for my small business! I love that it automatically keeps track of each customer’s purchases and points without me having to manually log anything. It’s super helpful that I can customize the reward amounts and incentivize referrals, which helps encourage repeat business and new customers. I also really like the ability to create VIP tiers and offer different perks based on a customer’s loyalty level. While I haven’t used every feature yet, the starter program alone is impressive. It gives you a real sense of how the paid plans could take customer engagement and retention even further. Highly recommend for small business owners looking to build loyalty in a simple and flexible way.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

So far, I haven’t really found anything I dislike about Smile.io. I’m currently using the starter version, so there are still some features I haven’t explored yet. If I had to note something, it would just be that I look forward to seeing how the additional features in the paid plans can further benefit my business. But overall, my experience has been smooth and positive! :)

The customer service is always quick to reply and very helpful. We changed our entire web platform from Big Commerce to Shopify three years ago. The migration was a difficult process, but Smile helped us work out some of the integration issues that we ran into. They worked with us to help find solutions and workarounds to our issues. We used a different

Customer often have issues accessing the widget hub after login. They will log into Shopify in with their 6 digit access code and then go to the widget to view their balance, and the app will ask to log in again. Even though they are logged into Shopify, smile doesn’t recognize the authentication. This happens probably 10 times a week. We ask customers to clear their cache or use a different browser. It’s been an issue since we moved to Shopify and it would be nice to have it resolved.

Loyalty rewards and tracking is seamless. Being able to offer a rewards program is one of our customers favorite features.

I like that smile allows me to add rewards on products, it helps me move my discontinued products and give customers incentives. However, I have noticed that most customers prefer to use a '$x off' reward instead of free gifts.

We offer a 10% off first order discount. My customers ALWAYS email me to ask where their first discount code is. It would be helpful if the unique code could be coded into an email, or it was more obvious where the customers can find their discount. I find most customers don't open the little 'rewards' pop up. The option for a more customizable landing page may be more helpful with my demographic.

Overall, our loyalty program is not used as much as we hoped it would be.

I dislike the price, to be honest. I've considered canceling it because every monthly bill counts for my small business.

I also wish it was more automated so I wasn't having to check in customers and enter their email address in order to use the rewards system. We are an in-person business and don't want to add customer info and email for every transaction when we are busy. I know Square rewards are linked to phone numbers, something like that would be easier for us, or if the customer could check themselves in without us having to do it.

We've been using smile for about 6 years, and once it's set up it just does it's thing.  As a women's fashion retailer, building a loyal community is key. Smile.io has been fantastic for this. It was incredibly easy to integrate with our store and customise the rewards program to match our brand's look and feel. Our repeat purchase rate has seen a noticeable increase since we launched our VIP program.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

If I had to pick something, some of the more advanced customisation options for the pop-up widget are a bit limited on our current plan. It would be great to have more creative control (eg the size of the launcher bubble) without needing to upgrade, but it's a minor issue for us. Also the time zone setting seems to only be for the US and we are in NZ so some of the notifications go out at weird times, especially the points expiry emails. We have adjusted them to go out 3 days in advance of expiry to get around this.

Being a very small business; I am the owner and my only employee, I appreciate that the Starter plan is at a reasonable price and offers the important feature. Most app developers offer the very, very, basic features at their base level plans. So little, that it is basically pointless. But Smile.io's Starter plan allows me to actually get a start and offers an opportunity to grow my business, with my very small budget. Also, the customer service was very helpful, and the rep even check back with me a couple of days later. Then checked back again, because I missed their email and took a few days to response! They wanted to make sure I was all set to get starter.

I am just getting started with the program and do not have a lot of feedback at the moment. So far, so good!

Our customers love saving money off their baby gear purchases, while also supporting a local mom & pop shop in Canada. We use our Smile Rewards customer loyalty program to generate repeat business and help customers make the choice to buy their baby & parenting products from us versus a competitor.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

I would love if it were easier to sync the removal of the entire Sale collection or promo products from accruing rewards points. Having to add the products manually one by one (not as a collection or group of products/variants) is time consuming. It's great that you can now exclude products, but it is cumbersome and easy to forget to add them to exclusion or remove them after promotional pricing ends. It would also be super helpful if it were quick to assign points between friends and family members, especially in our case where people are buying for baby or gift registries and want the points transferred to their recipients.

My only real gripe is price. It’s a strong product, but the cost climbs quickly as usage grows. I’d love more flexible tiers for smaller teams or seasonal businesses.

Smile's UX is very user-friendly. They've done atremendous job of making loyalty programmes very accessible to brands without in-house development capabilities. We set up our programme in less than a day. The support team was always responsive when we got stuck. 
The loyalty tiers is a really nice feature that we will look to explore next.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The only downside with Smile for us is it's integration with Attentive isn't as good as the Klaviyo integration. So if there was one thing I'd request the team to look at, it'd be improving that.

Smile is helping us incentivise ongoing purchases without the need to be running discounts constantly. We're also finding Smile's UX for the customer to be superior to other loyalty programmes we've used, so this is helping with the program's uptake.

Smile.io makes creating a rewards program easy, accessible, and familiar. Many customers are familiar with the platform and the types of programs available because many companies use Smile.io in the online retail space.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The starter plan only allows one integration, which is not enough for using what Smile.io is good for. The next tiers aren't very accessible to small businesses starting out their rewards programs. It would be nice to have a commission based tier.

Smile.io gives customers a reason to continue shopping with us and encourages customers to spend more often. The overhead for creating our own rewards program is way outside of our current means, so having a one-size-fits-all option for a decent price allows us to do things we wouldn't otherwise be capable of.

One feature that I loved but turned out to be risky was the refer a friend. Not Smile.iOS fault, just need to make sure users don’t abuse it by making fake account to get freebies.

With Smile.io I don’t need to run promos or market continuously because the system will auto send emails to customers to redeem their points , which generates more sales.

I've been using smile rewards since I launched my site 15 years ago.  I did not fully expect it to be adopted by all of our customers but it has become an amazing sales tool for us.  Not only does it work seamlessly with my shopify store but the team there are always so pleasant and helpful whenever I need to contact them - fixing any issue right away and offering insight and advice that has been extremely helpful.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

I really can't say anything bad about the platform at this point as i have never encountered any issue that wasnt resolved or a functionality that is missing.

Right now I have been working with the team on building a new customer flow for the new shopify accounts platform that will be launched on our new store design.  The team at smile has offered plenty of advice and also given me clear instructions on how to action any of the flow strategies we've talked about.

The employees are friendly and always try to relay important information in a timely manner. I like how everything is accessible and easy to use.

I would say the biggest downside is not being able to format emails seamlessly. Some pictures and fonts look off kilter and it is unfixable. I wish there were suggestions of phrases to use for a brand so that the customer email are coherent and able to personalize to a brand voice.

It helps me with filling out reports week over week and I appreciate the legacy analytics as well. I have more confidence in understanding just how the loyalty program is benefitting the entire company.

Smile is very user friendly for both the merchant and the consumer. The Shopify app integration for the merchant is simple to get you going and there is a lot of room to expand the application so that you can maximize the acquisition capabilities and build it as a revenue channel. Customers can easily sign up and redeem their points along their purchase journey. We consider Smile an integral part of our marketing strategy for acquisition and building lifetime value.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

There were some changes made over the years that I wish I was more aware of when the new features came out. But eventually we were easily able to update and adjust with some very attentive customer support.

**What problems is Smile.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have Smile integrated on two of our brand websites. And for both of them we wanted to create a sense of brand loyalty and provide an incentive for customers to shop at our brand site, instead of defaulting to Amazon. We think the  rewards points - and the ability to offer targeted promotions through Smile - has had a positive impact on our customer acquisition strategy and has had the extra benefit of a measurable revenue channel.
