**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

A lot of organizations don't have a specific blackboard person and thus permissions can be hard to change if you need something done.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard saved us during the pandemic with its ability to offer remote education. I like that accessibilty is built in (students with sight issues don't have to struggle) and I like that there are various services that you can embed and customize.

The ability to quickly and safely generate new content such as quizzes, assignments, discussion boards, journals and images is a game changer for any academic who is wanting to enhance their teaching, learning and assessment workflows.

Every staff member that has attended one of our training sessions were I introduce Design Assistant has nothing but wonder, amazement and a "how do i get my hands on this!" attitude after the sessions.

All of the above, although my favourite part of BBU should distract from how every other aspect of the software is perfectly designed and balanced to produce unbelievably learning opportunities to provide students the best experiences while at our University.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

As mentioned above, there is very little I dislike about BBU. I would like to see blackboard thinking about introducing more of a Gamification style strategy to the formative test tool. Think about how successful Kahoot and Quizizz have been. Could we see a more gamified user interface with the new GenAI Design Assistant still working in the background?

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Blackboard provides the perfect platform where of the University's full time course materials, assignments, and communications. This reduces problems relating to using multiple tools and platforms,

Through the use of Blackboard Ally, students can access their course materials in formats that suit them and meet their specific needs. Staff no longer have to spend time and effort producing multiple copies of their content to meet incluivity requirements and through this flexibility supports diverse learning needs and promotes inclusivity.

Streamlined Communication: Blackboard’s integrated communication tools, such as announcements, discussion boards, and messaging ensures that important information is communicated effectively and in a timely manner and provides a space for outside of the box learning to take place.

Blackboard provides a variety of types of assignments and quizzes, which can be graded automatically giving the ability to provide timely and detailed feedback helps students understand their progress and areas for improvement.

  ### 41. instructional designer

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

The upsides are the the easy to use interface and many features that allow you to create content and assignments.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

I get debug errors from time to time and the same features are not always available in every type of content item (document, discussion, assignments)

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making courses available to students online is the sole purpose of Bb for us.

  ### 42. Scalable, reliable, easy to use.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 04, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I like the ease of use, and available features. I think Bb's hidden power is how scalable it is to a variety of instiutional sizes and uses. It is also reliable and currently has a very smooth error reporting process.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The gradebook, as well as assignments, tests and graded/grading items need some rethinking. We need additional flexibility to have this gradebook truly be useable for different circumstances - currently the focus is on very strict graded academic settings so it doesn't provide the flexiblity needed for more nontraditional academics. and repetative, experiential based learning.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

educational needs

  ### 43. BBU A Great Experience

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

As of right now there’s nothing I dislike about blackboard

It helps with course creation and facilitation. Giving equitable access to classes to our students and a great way to help with professional development.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

There are some areas that need improvement in terms of grading, release conditions, and assignments.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Learning management solution for instructors and students

  ### 45. The BlackBoard ULTRA Positive Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Heather W. | Chair of Arts and Sciences, and English Instructor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

BlackBoard Ultra really helps keep our courses sleek looking, easy to move through, and build, as well as helps students with navigation. We have cut down our questions with students "lost in Bb space" down to almost nothing. On top of this, none of us (as instructors) had to compromise our materials in moving to Ultra. It really has been a win/win situation.

As we already used BlackBoard Legacy before moving to Ultra, we found that the migration over to ultra with the help of customer service, the videos provided, and training team, made for a very smooth transition. This eas of integration was an important factor in our move to Ultra as BlackBoard Ultra is part of our every day work load as instructors, and important that our students (who also use it every day) were able to access it easily as well.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Initially my only issue was how the gradebook (full gradebook) looked. I was used to the old one, and used it to do a lot of my double checking.
However, some of this is my own issue as I am visually impaired, and have to have all of my screens and fonts absolutely giangantic, so that also interfered with the interface of the newer gradebook (because of all the scrolling). Had it been on a normal font size, I don't think it would have been that big of a change. As it was, I simply worked through the other avenues of grading which have been just as good (if not better), and shown me just how flexible Ultra can be.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With many competing Learning Management Systems out there (some less expensive) it was important for us to choose one that exhibited a strong customer service base. Knowing that there were people behind the product there for us when we needed it has been integral, and the team that has worked with us has been wonderful and key in our success in integration.

We also needed to make sure we used an LMS that allowed the faculty to still express themselves for their coursework and students in a way that fit them and gave them ample room to experiment and explore ideas. Not all LMS's have that ability, as many are too strictly structured. We found that BlackBoard Ultra while on one hand giving that initial structure for those that needed/wanted it, it still allowed for creativity and added features and applications for those that wanted to work outside of the box, so to speak.

Being able to put our own ideas and issues into writing via Anthology has also been important. Seeing that what we think matters, and often that others had already addressed the matter, or conversely that a tool was simply not being understood or utilized correctly on our end, which opened up an opportunity for training.

  ### 46. Blackboard & AI -A Comprehensive Review of its Capability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rahul K. | Blackboard Systems Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2024

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

The recent development to redesign and recreate the content on Enhanced Ultra Document is truly a game changer for us. With the AI capability from building the course structure right to the building of assessment had played a significant role in shapping our institution brand value among our students. What's more interesting though is the upcoming feature which is of our great interest like AI powered chat bots to include it in the Discussions where student will be geatly involved interacting with it. All in all, according to me, this is the Go To product if you are looking for a LMS for your institution.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Sometimes, the Courses under UBN fails to load due to high number of course access but otherwise I haven't come across any such big issue.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since being a large institution, we deliver over 5k courses a year and with the increase of users with over 23% yoy, it was difficult for any LMS that caters our needs. That is where Anthology Blackboard comes into picture. It not only solves our operational problems but also offers a wide range of inbult features which we all loves being from an Adminstrator to our students.

  ### 47. My management experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

I like the multiple purposes that my faculty, staff and students enjoy.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

It is not a dislike but more training is needed for the new features. Ultra is worlds away from Original Learn, but we migrated successfully despite the challenges

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows or faculty to offer their content expertise to teach students and residents

  ### 48. Blackboard Learn Ultra is really easy to use and has some pretty advanced features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

Easy management and has a intuitive GUI that is easy to use for both teachers and students. The assignment and assessement tools are really developing in a positive way.
We use a lot of LTI-tools and it integrates fine with Blackboard Learn.
The Ultra version of Blackbord Learn is very intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The messaging system could be more advanced and the portfolio tool could be updated to a more modern design.
The portfolio tool is working fine but it needs an update.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integration with other systems works fine, Kaltura, Zoom, O365, LinkedIn Learning etc.

  ### 49. Blackboard Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Blackboard?**

The user interface is slick. It's also great as a streamlined way to showcase our online offerings

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

Is there a way to not have threads? I wish I could just send a message

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Going from decentralized to a more holistic centralized solution has been great. That's a key component I appreciate.

  ### 50. Ultra Course View Rocks!

Blackboard’s UCV is a robust and effective LMS that improves on previous clients. The gradebook is now easier to navigate and customize.

**What do you dislike about Blackboard?**

The learning curve was a little steeper than I would wish, but I find it easy to navigate now that I’ve used it.

**What problems is Blackboard solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Communicating with students.
