I seriously considered and gave thought to more things that I like about WileyPlus, but I honestly couldn't say there was anything else good worth noting. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** - I'm going to start with the intro video. It says "24-hour live support". Not true. I tried to contact them and you have to first fill out a questionnaire (which is reasonable) but instead of directing you to a live chat/call, it shows a screen that says something along the lines of "we will look into this problem". - The slide shows that they provide for you about the lesson barely help with the graded problems/test. Sometimes you can see what you did wrong, sometimes you can't. During one of my lessons, there was a decent amount of information that was left out, which made me struggle with the multi-step accounting dropdowns. - Another thing is they make you do an insane amount of work on ONE question, rather than spacing them into different questions. The questions take a long time, and instead of giving you a variety of questions, WileyPlus repeatedly asks you the same type of questions (ex. how to fill out a balance sheet, income statement, etc). This often occurs on the tests, elongating the time you spend taking it. Another thing about the tests is it's only about 25% of the material you covered in a chapter and it happens to be the hardest 25%. - Also, when filling out the balance sheet, income statement, and retained earnings, for example, you have to do simple math. The hardest the math gets is 1000 + or - 1000. It would save a lot of time if WileyPlus did the simple math for you, as actual accountants have programs that do the math for them. - One other thing I'd like to add is they overcomplicate what you are learning. Instead of teaching the correct, direct way, they take turns and spin easily-explainable terms/topics into something more complicated and confusing than it has to be. - My peers who use WileyPlus (including myself) are constantly doing work and not understanding the topics. A studious person like myself and some of my peers go back and rewatch the slide presentations and example problems provided by WileyPlus, continuing to not understand most of the topic. I've even turned to a tutor (who is an accountant) who has helped a great deal and explains things in a more direct, easy-to-understand way. I hope whoever is reading this takes serious consideration in using WileyPlus. I'm not saying this program has to be perfect and understand fully that programs such as these cannot be perfect, but WileyPlus has to make extraordinary changes into making itself halfway decent. There is a bunch of little things that I will not get into because I don't want to nit-pick, but if you are a professor/teacher, it will not only save your students time, effort and a ton of stress, but they will not fully learn Accounting if you use WileyPlus. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** WileyPlus have not solved any noticeable problems whilst I've been apart of this program. ### 2. The best way I can describe my Wiley relationship is as a Partnership. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** I have a large class, 1,700+ students a semester, so sometimes I run into some unique situations or issues. Wiley has my back and gets me to support ASAP to address the situation and to mitigate the issue. I feel like with any provider there are going to be bumps in the road but with Wiley, they make it as smooth as possible. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** By using the WileyPLUS system it allows us to use the Textbook homework, and provide the students with many additional learning resources (such as Adaptive Practice) that we would not be able to offer otherwise. ### 3. Last year, I taught two different sessions of an Accounting Course. One was asychronous and one was synchronous. The nice thing is you can build modules and set hyperlinks for the students to specific sections of the text. WileyPlus also provides a ton of assignments, question banks, and practice problems. This was my first class and I couldn't have done it without Wiley. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** The only thing that I did not like was some of the Excel assignment problems were very rigid. I had several students complain that the formulas they entered into the spreadsheet should have been marked correct, but due to a very slight formula difference, they were incorrect. I also had several students have problems when uploading spreadsheet assignments to WileyPlus. They would get notifications that their assignments had been flagged for cheating. I would have to intervene much too often. **Recommendations to others considering WileyPLUS:** If you are teaching a college course and you have the opportunity to use WileyPlus, I strongly recommend it. The powerpoint presentations are prepared for you for lectures. There are plenty of sample questions and problems that can be assigned from the question bank. Wiley will even grade them for you. This was my first time teaching and WileyPlus made it a much more enjoyable experience. Doing all this work manually would have been extremely time consuming as I also work full time. Pretty awesome product for students and professors. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** WileyPlus made teaching my first two accounting courses at the college level actually managable. I do not think I could have done it without having access to all the resources Wiley provided. WileyPlus not only provides a ton of resources and helpful information for the students, but for the professors as well. Wiley provided conceptual guidlines for each chapter and useful suggestions on how to structure lectures. ### 4. WileyPlus has helped me a lot in getting closer to my goal of getting students to read the assigned chapters by making WileyPlus’ adaptive practices as part of the grade. The adaptive practices Wiley developed are unique and set themselves apart from other publishers. If students try to attempt to complete the questions found in adaptive practices without reading the corresponding chapters, they will have a hard time receiving the full credit. A student who is well prepared when starting the adaptive practices, will be able to identify the concepts they are still struggling with and which concepts they have mastered. In contrast, a student who is struggling with a particular concept, may be prompted to review and answer questions related to earlier concepts relevant to the current concepts. For example, a student struggling with the physiological changes related to stress, may be prompted to review concepts first introduced in the biology chapter to ensure that they have mastered the concept. This approach set WileyPlus apart from any other publishers.Wiley is family-owned company and these family values show at all levels. Once I adopted the title, I was assigned a costumer success manager as well as a digital learning executive. Both are an integral part and ensure that the switch is an easy and pleasant experience. I have seen students’ performance increase since requiring the adaptive practices. I just finished my first 8-week section and was pleasantly surprised when I am assigning final grades. I didn’t have any Ds or Fs. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** That WileyPlus is not that compatible with Safari. **Recommendations to others considering WileyPLUS:** You won't regret making the switch. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am struggling with students to read the chapters. We do not have a large enough budget to hire enough graders to grade homework. WileyPLUS solves that problem. Associated with this solution is the instant feedback and problem solutions given to students. The algorithmic determination of problems helps to reduce students from merely entering the numbers that another student has found to be correct for his/her problem. The availability of videos demonstrating aspect of the subject matter that are difficult to produce in the classroom. Practice questions and practice problems give students the opportunity to test their understanding on their own timetable. Features such as "What an Engineer Sees" present an active solution of problems with illustrations and voice over that are similar to what an instructor might do in the classroom. ### 6. I also love that the customer support is amazing for instructors and students alike. I like all the course resources that are available for instructors and students. The textbook is fantastic, the Blackboard integration works well, and I can create my own assignments or use theirs. I'm a creature of habit, so I've gotten very comfortable and familiar with the legacy version. Almost effortless on your side. Moreover, the projects are so well integrated in each chapter. It frees up time for me and grades homeworks and quizzes. It's a valuable resource for students with homework hints, links to the text, and other ancillary items that help your students get the support they need in real time. It's more than just an online textbook, it's a true classroom management tool that is a game changer. It's helped me shift my role in the classroom from teacher to facilliator. There's lots of classroom resources available and I get to select the sections I want to present and share with students. The bonus is in the almost 8 years I have been using it, the developers of WileyPLUS have constantly evolved to improve features and stay ahead of the tech curve. I plan on doing a full dive into CANVAS course integration in the fall. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** There's no downsides. I would recommend if you are a HS teacher to spend the first day of class getting your kids signed up and walking them through how to navigate it. It's pretty intuitive, but that's a good practice to implement. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am saving time- no more grading homeworks and quizzes. I can set the parameters of multiple tries, hints, due dates, and due times. This has helped me reinforce the process of problem solving in physics over "what's the answer." I do this by assigning the same homework sets to all students, but each gets different numbers. There's so many choices and options and it's really easy to use. ### 41. Other than that, I like it very much. **Recommendations to others considering WileyPLUS:** Get help from your Customer Success Rep to get your course set up to do the things you want to do. They are VERY helpful and knowledgeable. I usually want to have different options for the homework sets than what the default settings give, but couldn't figure out how to do that. My rep told me I just needed to make a copy of the assignment, then change the settings to what I wanted. Worked great! Secondly, ask your students daily, at least at the beginning of the semester, about any problems they are having with getting access to the WileyPLUS course material. I had someone trying to access the old WileyPLUS system this year, but we had moved to the new WileyPLUS platform. Catching those types of difficult issues early on will help the students have a better experience, and make the best use of their time on the WileyPLUS platform. Additionally, check in with your students to see if they need any extra help on the concepts. Most of the time, they do not, but every once in a while they have difficulty with a concept that we can clear up in just a few minutes of class time. One last item: I like to work all the homework problems myself, just to make sure that I can cover any particularly difficult concepts before assigning that problem set to the students **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Just user errors! ;-) Students are learning the material well. Our books help us visualize the content we study. Then our online homework pushes our understanding of the material to help us better understand the basics more. I have not experienced a consistent issue accessing the site (such as the site is down for maintenance excessively or is down with no explanation). I think both our customer success specialist and account manager are a part of Wiley Plus, so I do want to mention how much I appreciate their correspondence. They are always prompt, provide very detailed responses, are willing to have a phone call/whatever it takes to help me resolve an issue, and are always responding professionally. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** I do not like the inconsistency in how to provide an answer. Some problems ask to round to 1 decimal place, or 2, or 3... Some questions will only accept answers within 0.01 decimals after much calculation (finding estimated mean and then the standard deviation) where a slight rounding in calculation can change the result. **Recommendations to others considering WileyPLUS:** Don't hesitate to ask questions. In my experience, every employee has been extremely knowledgeable and happy to help me learn and/or resolve any issues. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Most of my problems with Wiley Plus have been students not reading instructions on homework assignments or my complaint above. Our student passing rate has gone up 20% since using Wily Plus. Any other issues I may have experienced with Wiley Plus have been resolved either through googling the "problem" or by contacting my customer success specialist. ### 43. Each instructor has an assigned Customer Service Specialist who will help with simple tasks such as getting your course set up or complex things like transitions to new edition or upgrades. The 24-hour student online help is good for most student technical problems, but they never fail to surprise me with new ways they can mess up, so if they come to my office and I call the instructor-only technical help number, I have always gotten any problem resolved right then. Then the resources are interactive and very supportive of learning beyond just memorizing, if the students will use them. I find I need to create some graded incentive, but once the serious students get into it and see the value of the adaptive learning and use of the interactive activities and animations, they would do it even if it wasn't required. **What do you dislike about WileyPLUS?** Can't really think of anything other than cost, and the new advantage pricing coming in 2020 with extended access for students that withdraw or fail, that will get better. This is especially important for Anatomy & Physiology where many students do need to repeat. I do get initial resistance from students because they would rather watch YouTube or use Quizzlet because the WileyPlus seems like too much work (which it is and should be), but that is because it is supporting real learning. **Recommendations to others considering WileyPLUS:** The support is amazing compared to what I hear some of my colleagues using similar products from other publishers say when they have problems. **What problems is WileyPLUS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest benefit is consistency across multiple sections with different full and part-time instructors. By using the Adaptive Learning feature and access to all the 3D animations, etc. all students in Anatomy & Physiology, no matter who they have as an instructor, are able to take advantage of the supported learning. ### 44. The best part is that if they miss a problem they must redo it and get it correct for credit.
