The product Anaplan is highly flexible in terms of configuration and can support many features such as Workflow, Real-time calculations, real-time what-if scenarios. Since it also has a mobile app, users can easily access their reports on their mobile app and don't necessarily need to log in to a computer to look at the reports. It is versatile and different planning needs can be fulfilled by using this. You can do your Supply Chain Planning, Financial Planning, Merchandise Planning, Territory Quota Planning and what not! It's quite easy to learn and implement as well and learning material is simply awesome. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Since it's a cloud based technology, a lot of model builders can work on this at the same time. But the problem is if anyone makes an error during implementation, the system freezes for everyone. Sometimes the error time even exceeds 15 minutes. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** It's a very easy and adaptive tool. It can be described as excel or access on steroids. The tool is flexible and scalable to adapt to any business objective. The tool exposes silos and barriers in the business that are necessary to have during organizational transformation. The best part is the tool is business owned. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Reporting is currently undergoing a facelift. They are transitioning to a new UX, which provides improved visuals to display data. Currently, there is no way for the platform to realize the current date. This is on the product roadmap and should be resolved in the near future. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** We currently use Anaplan to solve for strategic revenue planning, account segmentation, and Incentive compensation management. My solved for our enterprise account selection by using Anaplan to objectively model and predict customer spend by our company’s products and services. From there, we were able to effectively and efficiently develop new business targets for our accounts, that are transparent with the sales reps compensation targets. ### 12. Centralizing information also allows users to view changes from other parts of our organization, which drives more efficient planning cycles and communication among departments. The new user experience is also industry-best. Dashboarding translates cleanly to the mobile application, and on-screen views are professional and effective for communicating data to higher level users. I have been involved with Hyperion and TM1 implementations in past roles, and Anaplan is by far the easiest and fastest to implement. Changes on-the-go are also very efficient to roll out, which is not the case with more complicated and less-sophisticated platforms. For organizations that experience dynamic lines of business, Anaplan is an ideal solution for quickly developing what-if scenario analysis to reduce uncertainty and promote smarter forecasting. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Managing large amounts of data presents a challenge at times. Due to Anaplan's configuration as a planning tool, there is a trade-off between calculation speed and data storage capabilities. Many times, our users would like to see highly specific, transaction level details within Anaplan, but due to the size of our organization, this is generally an impossible task to accomplish without exceeding the maximum allowed workspace size parameters. Reporting is also not a strong suit for Anaplan. Most of our users are used to more flexible ad-hoc reporting similar to what is offered in Excel from Hyperion or TM1, so creating reports to match the capabilities of other tools often presents challenges. However, as with all things in Anaplan, the more time you spend in the system as a developer, the more you are able to find solutions for previously unsolvable problems. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** Your success with Anaplan is measured by the amount of knowledge and investment you make in learning the platform. Any company needs to invest in a full-time staff to support the system, which will increase user adoption as well as grow the use case potential within the organization. I have yet to run into a situation that cannot be solved with Anaplan, but it took time, creativity and an architectural focus to design solutions that had not yet been discovered by other developers. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** In my work, my clients have solved issues around workforce planning, financial analysis, executive reporting, Capex and depreciation, cost allocations, real estate investment and property management, data integrations, and model security management. All of these areas have added significant efficiency around our planning cycles (reduced forecast/budget completion time, better communication across departments, greater visibility into cost savings drivers). ### 13. It takes short time to implement complex functions with Anaplan. For me developing Anaplan is easier and faster than developing excel. With Anaplan Connect, developing an interface is also possible. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** It's easy to implement Anaplan, but it's easy only for trained Anaplan developers. It doesn't mean in-house production is easy. If you are an Anaplan customer and want to maintain in your company after Anaplan partner had developed, you need to take enough time to complete Anaplan training. Anaplan is a cloud solution. Please do not expect the same response speed with Excel. So that, it's not a good idea to use Anaplan only to input data. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** Data visualization If you could clearly define the data you'd like to watch, any data visualization is possible. Anaplan NUX is beautiful. You can also use Anaplan for presentation, you don't need to use Powerpoint anymore. Operation visualization To implement Anaplan, you need to organize business operations. The complex and black-box business operations will disappear in your company. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our customer had planned proper production volume by themselves. We created logic to calculate the production plan and implemented it with Anaplan. Now, what our customer needs to do to plan production volume is only wait for the interface from SAP and log in to Anaplan. Every month, they see all necessary data for production automatically. With Anaplan, I can implement complex logic like this in a short time. If we had implemented this logic with excel, the excel file would have been too complex to understand and often froze. ### 14. If you can provide Anaplan the data relationships, it can show you deep insights and allow you to perform extensive scenario analysis. In short, it is the answer to making big data useful. No one sifts through thousands or millions of transactions to see patterns and trends. Anaplan gives you the tool set do it. Additionally, Anaplan is build-to-suit; the answer to 'Can Anaplan do it?' is almost always 'yes'; it can consume and enhance your current data structures as well as provide the foundation for bona fide process transformation. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** While the nature of the tool promotes collaboration in the planning process through its role functionality, the day-to-day collaboration is not mature yet. There is room to grow in workflow and collaboration-specific functionality (e.g. comments in-platform). The platform's pricing is based on allocated space, which means that it can change over time and is subject to the data you load and the capabilities that you utilize in the platform. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** As an implementation partner, I help companies solve a variety of problems with Anaplan. I primarily focus on sales performance management (SPM), so I will comment from that perspective. The most pervasive business problems that are solved by Anaplan are developing and managing territories and setting and adjusting quotas for the sales force. Most organizations lack any type of enterprise-level solution that does this, and the most frequent 'system' that is replaced is Excel. Anaplan provides a single source of truth for territories and targets; it allows for collaboration around that single data set and holistic data analytics that provide insights from an individual sales rep to mid-level managers to executives who oversee regions, business units, and entire organizations. The most potent advantage that is realized is the ability to view high-level KPIs, but to then drill into the details at a low level to understand what is driving them. ### 18. They may not have updated their review text, but have updated their review. **What do you like best about Anaplan?** Anaplan is not an out of the box solution that forces companies to fit their business process into a predefined mold, it allows businesses to build up models and planning processes that fit their needs and can continue to evolve as their business grows and changes. It is difficult to imagine a modeling scenario you can't build in Anaplan. The tool allows for a lot of flexibility in the type of planning a customer wants to do, and can truly be owned/managed by end users instead of by IT. This allows for much quicker turnaround on adjustments to a model. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Since Anaplan is not a pre-built solution, it does require more up-front investment in time and resources to get set up. It requires participation from multiple groups across the organization to put together a well-thought out model and more importantly to maintain and update the model on a regular cadence to keep up with a growing company. This can allow for things that shouldn't exist in Anaplan to be put into Anaplan (such as data storage). I also think ANaplan's front end and reporting capabilities could vastly improve the appeal of the platform, this could help reduce a customer's need for separate reporting/dashboarding in another tool like Tableau and further streamline processes by having robust reporting directly in Anaplan. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** Have a clear plan for the future state process you would like to have in Anaplan before starting on building Anaplan; this will make the build easier, faster and ultimately result in a better model output. If you try to design a process during the build, it can quickly get messy as things are built/rebuilt or the direction is changed halfway through the build. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan very quickly solves a lot of issues around internal communication and transfer of information because it is cloud based. Instead of having multiple versions of documents, a "living" version of business plans sits in Anaplan where anyone from the organization can access to review and make changes. This in itself reduces a lot of the time spent on planning. Through implementing Anaplan solutions at multiple clients, across several industries and use cases, I have consistently found that having a dedicated model admin that knows how to build and adjust the model on the client side is most effective, it allows the client to view and approach using Anaplan as an App that requires regular updates and releases of updates to end users, rather than a one-time set up. ### 19. Users can see the results of What-if calculations instantaneously. Calculations are written in simple "Excel" like syntax. No coding is required. If sparsity wasn't an issue the models can be easier to implement and easier for end users to adopt. **Recommendations to others considering Anaplan:** Ensure you allow adequate time to implement Anaplan. Still, I'd be wary of the cost of the product, concerns around the sizing of the model, and no ability for alternate hierarchies. Given that, I'd say many products out there have similar issues in some way, shape or fashion, however Anaplan does bring a modern maturity to the forecasting real of tooling. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Excel-based models are slow because of their size and interlinked, meaning that forecasting has to occur at a higher level and is a genuinely manual process. By using Anaplan, the worry of speed to forecast and sending sensitive information over emails/slack/webchat goes away, while having a codified view of the calculations brings everyone onto the same page as to how we get to a number. ### 47.
