You pay for users and space. So space is valuable. Anaplan models easily get very large if you are not careful. Saving space as much as possible sometimes results in overcomplicated architecture. It combines good data analytics with great user interface for planning. If built correctly it's fast, easy to use and reliable. The flexibility also extends to implementation scope and speed. If the criteria of implementation changes mid way through the project Anaplan has the features and flexibility to deal with almost every change thrown at it. They have a great learning platform that help speed up the understanding of Anaplan for both business users and future model builders, which greatly empowers the business users to keep the tool up to date. Anaplan is a type of system which, if implemented successfully, sells itself inside the company, the more functions you get on the platform the larger the benefit of having such a platform can be achieved. It is very simple to integrate and synchronize different areas of Anaplan models between each other, like make your supply chain application deliver data automatically to jour finance application, doing away with long e-mail chains of finding the correct version of the plan to use. It also extends to 3rd party sources, Anaplan supports easy integration possibility with dedicated analytics tools or allows for a simple integration with source systems. It's fast and reliable and does not ask a lot of IT resources to set up. Once implemented Anaplan becomes a daily source of truth for the functions using it. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Their user management, specifically when it comes to licensing, can sometimes be a bit difficult to follow and properly track in the system. Although there have been good improvements lately with enhancements to global User Management views it still lacks an easy overview of contracted licenses vs used. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan standartizes the planning process, it makes data (especially results) transparent for the management team. Due to primarily replacing Excel-based planning processes it unlocks the possibility to work with more data and larger granularity of data faster. And not only that it allows that within a cross functional model where you might have multiple departments and business functions working in a seamless live model. With it's ML Timeseries forecasting capabilities and Linear Optimizer Anaplan can solve very complex business problems quickly across multiple functions although these two primarily have a direct impact on Demand Planning and Supply Chain, that then is passed down to finance or other parts of the business using the system. You can also see buggs and user errors in the planning cycle dramatically decrease after implementing Anaplan. It's flexible enough so that the platform can be built around your business process, but the user interface can be made strict enough to ensure correct entries and reduction of user errors. ### 22. Anaplan is a very Flexibile and Scalable platform due to hyperblocks/hyper models, very strong in Collaboration and Ease to Use which includes Ease of Implementation becasue of we can build models using Agile methodology. As Anaplan supports various planning areas in an organization we can build an enatire build Connected Planning environment and can easily build Scenario Planning capabilities because of its multi dimensionality capabilities. Supports various types of Data Integrations and last but not least the product is continuously being innovated. Anaplan has great customer support **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Inspite of a lot of advatanges, managing new development and production bug fixes is still a painful proicess. Need more innovation in UX pages versioning as the cganes in NewUX are mostly manual. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** At Qualys, becasue of Anaplan the time for forecasting and Budgeting has been reduced drastically and the platform provides an amazing collabrative experience unlike excel. Pur CFO now can look at the budget and Forecast vs Budget vs actuals variance all in single place and is all live data unlike with excel where there were teams pulling multiple files and trying to aggregrate every week/month. ### 23. And to use this functionality to improve the data quality of forward-looking views and the decision quality of leaders using that information. Flexibility to tailor dashboards and data views based on user personas and roles. The security model is infinitly flexible here and yet not difficult to configure. Scalability. You can (and should) use Anaplan to improve a small, less risky business process but then branch out and broaden the scope to other areas that are not feasible with existing systems. This really allows you to practice an agile approach to the improvement journey. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Some of the front-end dashboard functionalities could be improved. Specfically, the lack of a multi-tab view of dashboards that you've viewed (or list of recently viewed) means you bounce around a bit. The original (aka "classic") dashboard in Anaplan allowed this tabular view and users really liked that. It would also help if you could do a "wrap text" like Excel and have the grid views auto-size the row heights. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** We've used the product across about 20 use cases spanning each of our major businesses globally. So, while each use case has its own business case and story, some general themes apply to all: How it benefits... - Anaplan has helped us integrate and streamline planning processes...particularly processes that span departments and teams spread globally but rely heavily on disconnected data sources like excel files and manual reconciliations of these sources with enterprise systems. - Anaplan has enabled a true "single source of truth" in a real-time environment catering to various user personas. So, now we avoid the confusion over what "the number" is during peak planning periods with many iterations. - Anaplan has helped us to overcome poor data quality from source systems by leveraging the flexible (and auditable) functionalities to normalize data and make the best use of it with stakeholders....vs. waiting until we "clean up" all of our source data challenges. ### 24. It is the best placed tool I have come accross to replace the 'messy middle' and heavy dependence on modelling in excel. The platform allows you to build your processes, formulas and plans in line with the structure of your business and the ability to drill down provides transparency. It allows for end to end planning accross your business. In the Alternative Investment industry we have seen this clearly. In additon to standard FP&A and Workforce Planning use cases Anaplan can truly offer a breadth of capabilities. Real Estate firms use it plan the entire lifecycle of their assets from Acquistion Underwriting Models, through Developments, Asset Level Planning, Disposals and Fund Modelling. Private Equity firms have seen value in building out Fund Outcomes models, Valuations, Carry Waterfalls and more. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Management Reporting has been a great new feature but it would be great to see this develop even further. Adding the TODAY function would also be useful and the ability to sub-total via a selection in reports **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Time to value, with short implementation time-frames, Anaplans benefits rapidly realized. The platform enables collaboration, provides one source of truth, enables security, version control and transparency. ### 25. There is a quite low level of entrance to the platform in order to be able to create complex models. If you are good in excel and VBA, you will be definitely good in model building. You can cover any business case by Anaplan, it's proved by my 7-years platform's experience. An UX is great, you don't have to get used to that. It is very native and user friendly. Anaplan doesn't stay in an one place. It releases new features very often. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Unfortunately, Anaplan doesn't support any scripts modelling. Therefore, sometimes you have to pass a very long building way in order to reach your goal. The greatest disadvantage of the platform is a price. It is quite high, your company need to have a really good profit to afford it. On the other hand, Anaplan brings a real value. That amount can be calculated. In many cases the savings cover an Anaplan's TCO. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a consultancy company, we've managed a lot of Anaplan implementations in different domains and business cases. It's been FMCG, Pharma, Banking, Mining, and Tech industries. All of them found their benefits in the Anaplan's implementation. Some clients cut twice their time for budget campaign, others increased transparency and efficiency in C&B process for their Sales Reps. Many clients provide a great feedback about an ability to create and compare different scenarios in very rapid way. In my opinion, the greatest benefit in the Anaplan implementation is that clients, finally, get verified and enhanced buisness process, that have really clear definition. In addition to that, they can change the process, even by their internal champion. Nowadays, when the things are changed unpredictably fast, this is extremely important. ### 26. Companies can replicate their business processes with minimum to no compromise. It is one of the few tools on the market (with Excel) with this level of customization. Anaplan is probably second only to Excel in project development time, it is incredibly fast. Finally, given that it is a formula-based tool, there is no scripting needed so anyone can pick it up. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** The user interface. Even though Anaplan has invested a lot of time and effort over the last couple of year to improve it (new user experience, management reporting,...) I don't believe it's quite there yet. Simple things are still missing. Additionally, proper workflow capabilities need to be re-introduced (Anaplan did release a v.1 in 2020). **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Problems: siloed business processes, difficulties to consolidate the figures, multiple data sources, manual calculation/template errors, no audit trail, no data security Benefits: time savings, live consolidated figures, single source of truth, accurate and correct calculations, advanced audit and security capabilities ### 27. Its dashboards or reports update on the fly when data change. Its flexible modelling features allow seamlessly model update. For example, when adding a new entity to entity list in a model, the same set of calculations will applied to the new entity straight away. No need to duplicate calculations for the new entity. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Dashboard functionality is not as flexible as excel. For example, font size in dashboard is not adjustable. Cell highlighting by user is not possible. Line item alias is not there, we need to create a separate line item to accommodate the reporting requirement. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before Anaplan, we used spreadsheet for monthly workforce planning process which involves 20 cost centers and around 400 workforce resources. Some resources will be shared by multiple cost center, and it caused double counting in planning. To maintain the accuracy and integrity of data, a delegated staff responsible to meet with individual head of business functions and to input the workforce planning data for them. Also, it took the staff around 3-4 stressful days to produce a consolidation report. During these 3-4 days, any new-comer or resignation still need to be handled and updated to get an accurate report. With Anaplan, individual head of business functions are able to input the workforce planning data themselves via the self-serve dashboard. With the control of cost center resources hierarchy, planning for shared workforce resources without double count become possible. Also, a cost center dashboard, which is impossible in spreadsheet model, allows the head of business functions to review their own workforce planning. Once the workforce planning data is completed by the head of business functions, the consolidation report is produced automatically. For any changes in resource, it reflects in the report immediately. ### 28. You can pretty much model anything you want and without the need to write scripts. Anaplan is probably the most flexible modelling tool on the market. This means people can stick to their models and don't have to conform to any other standard. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** Just like Excel it is affected by the numbers of cells used in the model. Fortunately, we are talking here of billions of cells before running into any sort of issues but still. It would be great not having to worry about it. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Collaboration is drastically improved. People don't need to send each other spreadsheets or worry about formula errors. Multiple stakeholders can access the platform simultaneously but can only see the data they have access to. During C-Suite reviews, if anyone asks: "where does that value come from" the presentor can drill down into the value. When previously preparing for C-Suite reviews, different parts of the organization may have calculated the same metrics with different logic or inputs, Anaplan forces the organization to provide transparency, alignment, and standardization where applicable to that planning process. ### 30. There are so many features that make this empowerment possible, such as version control, real time calculation updates, and dynamic cell access. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** When an Anaplan Model Builder attempts to implement a formula that is invalid, sometimes, this results in the Anaplan model locking up (or "toasting") for a period of time that ranges from seconds to minutes (depending on the size and complexity of the model) while the model processes and reverts the change. During this "toaster" period, no one, including Model Builders and users, can navigate or make changes in the model - This is extremely disruptive. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Through Anaplan's Application Lifecycle Management functionality, I can Model Build in an existing Anaplan model without disrupting users' working in the Production model. Anaplan: Multi-dimensional Planning Excellence **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2023 **What do you like best about Anaplan?** Much like with many planning solutions the removal of spreadsheets, the structure of the calculations really comes forward There's a great community of global users who are able to problem solve and provide solutions where required Although there's a relatively steep learning curve it is very intuitive and once the basics have been achieved then it's very easy to scale Front-end for end users is very clean and not at all spreadsheet-like The sandbox nature of Anaplan means that any problem can be solved within the platform - if it can be done in spreadsheets then it can be done in Anaplan **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** On massive datasets can be quite data storage heavy albeit new functionality is out to help with that No native connectivity to other systems - requires heavy usage of APIs, ETL tooling, etc to get data from source and then onto other systems Can be sometimes complicated to debug issues with calculations - but this is often because of poor modelling The sandbox nature of the platform means that anything is possible and bad models can easily be created which don't confirm to best practice **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** A variety of problems are being solved within our organisation: P&L planning across business units, cost management across the whole organisation, group-level consolidation and reporting of P&L Having a consistent tooling for cross organisation processes means that everyone knows how to do their forecasting and how information needs to be inputted. ### 48. Anaplan gives you the same flexibility to build whatever you need, but with enterprise-level information system guardrails for things like security, auditability, change control, etc. **What do you dislike about Anaplan?** The initial price point is pretty high. It is hard for organizations to inexpensively do a Pilot or Proof of Concept. I would like to see them offer an inexpensive 90 or 180 day option for 2-4 users with Model Builder access to accelerate adoption. **What problems is Anaplan solving and how is that benefiting you?** Anaplan helps our clients connect their Financial planning with Operational planning. We hear over and over again from our clients that they are able to forecast more frequently and more accurately because the Anaplan solutions we configure for them reduce the time to forecast and plan. ### 49.
