  ### 9. VP, Engineering

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael S. | VP, Engineering

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2023

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

There are a couple of aspects of StackState that were helpful to us. First, the ability to gain deep insights into our entire AWS/EKS stack. We were already using Dynatrace and CloudWatch but were still not getting the depth of observability we needed to ensure we maintain our SaaS solution's top service levels for customers.

Within minutes of installing StackState, the software auto-discovered and mapped the topology of our entire IT environment – including ingesting data from Dynatrace and CloudWatch, so that we truly had a unified picture of our stack from all data sources.

Within three hours, we discovered and successfully troubleshot two unknown performance issues in our production cluster: One in the database and one in the application layer. We could see where the bottleneck resided and was able to correct both issues in less than a day. Fixing the problems enabled us to achieve two things: (1) to cut in half the transaction times our customers experienced while using our application and (2) to reduce RDS infrastructure costs by 75%. The most important thing, however, was that our customers noticed the faster app response. When your customers notice – and comment, you know you’ve done something great for them.

FieldPulse also uses StackState in our change management process to capture before and after topology snapshots for compliance reasons.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Like any software application you use, there are always things you want to improve. The essentials are there, but we’d like to compare more readily some of the metrics like EC2, application, and utilization of the Kubernetes layer, compare some things on the database layer and get that picture right now to check what’s going on. We can do this today, but we must go to several places.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest win for us is ensuring performance for our customers. We must maintain a robust, resilient, performant SaaS application within a fully cloud-native AWS/EKS environment. We have made many performance improvements quickly, and StackState has enabled us to do that.

  ### 10. StackState gives insight in the topology and status of your mission critical ICT chains

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gideon V. | Accelerator / Innovator, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

StackState gives observability in your complete ICT landscape. It builds dynamic topology views based on cloud and CMDB data and provides you with an actual view of your architecture. You can define views of your ICT of your mission critical processes and drill down until component level.
It provides you with alerts in case of incidents. It helps you find the root cause of incidents and gives quick insight in the impact of incidents.
It helps you prepare changes and predict the possible impact of changes.
The roadmap of Stackstate works towards real AIops, starting with Anomaly detection and Health prediction.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The lay-out of the screens contains all information but could be more attractive.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps minimize the impact of incidents in the ICT environment and so helps minimize the impact on the business. It improves communication between ICT departments as they have a common view on the ICT landscape.

  ### 11. StackState provides an awesome observability solution for dynamic and complex environments.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Niek v. | Product manager Xebia Serious Gaming, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

By combining all available data sources StackState is able to display the entire topology of the environment. Adding business data on top of that you can see the business impact of outages in the glimpse of an eye.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

This is not necessarily StackState but it can be challenging to correlate data from within the enterprise due to difference in naming conventions etc. By implementing Stackstate it becomes painfully clear that it is important to have good goverance on resources to keep track of them.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Cloud Observability:**

Do a PoC early on, to see the value it provides.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Where many monitoring solutions focus on just telemetry StackState provides a full observability solution by combining data such as CMD data, monitoring data and trace data to build a full topology and health overview of the environment.

Relating business impact to IT incidents can be challenging. StackState helps to show the real impact of an outtage making it easier to prioritize.

  ### 12. Great insight into complex application landscapes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dennis L. | Solution Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Using the standard StackPack integrations it's very easy to gain insight into your (hybrid) application landscape easily. At the same time, adding custom content is also quite easy to do and will add value quickly.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Observability in itself is complex, abstract concept and can expose problems that "weren't there before". Managing this to stakeholders can be tricky sometimes.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Cloud Observability:**

Just try it with one or more of the StackPacks available out of the box. This will get you results in a couple of hours. And don't hesitate to contact them if your main system doesn't have an integration. They are willing to help out with that.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gaining insight into areas that other teams manage, will help in understanding each other better and solving incidents faster. Searching for problems in the wrong area because there is no overview of where an incident is coming from is significantly decreased.

  ### 13. Helpfull insights for better services

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andreas K. | Product Owner, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Insights over our services and customers (different services) in one view, roadmap alignment, direct communication and relationship with StackState.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Although the functionality is good and features getting added every release, is the performance our biggest issue, due to the large number of objects we want to have in StackState. But this is getting better with every release.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our problem was no insights over services and customers as a whole (only on components) and therefore difficult to do root cause analysis. With the implementation of StackState we both got insights over the whole stack/service in one view with dependencies, and automatic root cause analysis resulting in faster and better incident solving. Next step is to use StackState for automatic detection problems (AAD)

  ### 14. StackState: Observability made easy

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The UI is very nice and the integrations with existing services provide a big plus. It makes integrating easy and complete. StackState also has great support when things are missing or wrong in the current solutions.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

We are big fans of self-service solutions, so we would prefer if our DevOps teams could add their application monitoring to StackState. However, we have found that this can be rather difficult due to the complexity of creating custom integrations for StackState. So now we use a lot of great integrations created by StackState and try to onboard monitoring on most of the underlying components, so our DevOps teams only need to add the final parts of their stack.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mostly use StackState for monitoring our services. We would like to expand it to full-on observability and AIOps in the future but are not there yet. One of the big problems it solves for us is the scattered nature of monitoring data. Even though we have Splunk as a central data lake, not all data is sent there. This is mainly due to the volume of monitoring data some services generate. StackState and its StackPacks allow us to integrate all these services, making it the ideal monitoring platform.

  ### 15. Great monitoring solution for companies that want to progress

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ar P. | Product Owner, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Stackpacks and the ease of integration. Getting data in a monitoring system can be bothersome, but integration and basic interpretation out of the box make this very easy.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Sometimes it can take a while for some features or fixes are available.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Cloud Observability:**

Modularity is nice, but setting stuff up usually takes a lot of time. Consider that.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gaining insight, relating causes to impact, having the same overview in a distributed organization. Making things visual by itself is already a great benefit.

  ### 16. Hands-on mentality with an innovative approach for topology-powered observability

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gerald B. | Senior Product Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 05, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Stackstate has a clear innovative way of "aggregating them all" - i.e. bringing together many different tools (from AWS to Dynatrace to Zabbix) with different data (topology, metrics, tracing) and the time factor.

Easy to install with Helm-Chart for K8s (OpenShift)
Simple, easy-to-use interface that can be customized for each role.
Very helpful and committed support.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Until today?
I am sorry to say that. Nothing...

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our customers, their developers and our support staff face major challenges when it comes to solving faults and problems. Many complex connected systems in a heterogeneous IT infrastructure often make the search for a root-cause very time-consuming.

We therefore want to offer our customers a simple view of the status of their services. At any time and for any point in time.
Our support teams, but also the developers of our customers, should be led to the root-cause more quickly when processing faults and errors.

Stackstate's open approach and well thought-out concept help to unite a wide variety of data suppliers and reach our goals faster.

  ### 17. Vendor/Friend with which I would like to grab a beer!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vykintas B. | IT Platform Engineer, Associate, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Right from the start when Danske Bank decided to do StackState POC, StackState assigned very qualified engineer. It was a pleasure to work with him. Moreover StackState engineer helped to write initial Python script and showed how easily data could be parsed from internal database and visualized in StackState. Without a doubt POC was a total success. In one month we proved that StackState could visualize a multi tier load balancer architecture as well as other components like virtual servers, core switches, esx hots and much more. To add with, we did add some log sources and proved that it is possible to detect various infrastructure failures like problems with storage and correlate all related alarms to single problem domain.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

To be honest, at the moment StackState GUI lacks some features which would allow more customization for users. For example, more possibilities to group various components. Also, the relation drawing algorithm needs some adjustemts. Happy to said, we had several meetings with the StackState product management team and it looks like some of the most needed features will be implemented with the highest priority.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Cloud Observability:**

If some company has many different platforms, even exotic ones, StackState can easily create an integration for that platform and parse all relevant topology and monitoring data from it.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We did need a tool that could visualize infrastructure and service topology from an existing internal database. StackState proved to be a very good tool for such purpose as it supports Python scripts for topology parsing. To add within our pre-production environment we already have the whole topology and some alerting added. It has been 3 months since we started to use StackState, and only one person is working on this task. The result is really good.

  ### 18. StackState has the potential to become a substantial player in the IT monitoring scene

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The StackState team listens to what their customers need and has fantastic customer support. There is a direct feedback cycle when things are missing or need to be improved.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

StackState is still a startup, and not all features StackState offers are always mature. Luckily StackState listens to its customers, and it is using the feedback to work on improving its product every day.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows you to auto-discover numerous different but depending IT landscapes into one overview. StackState showed us how much we are monitoring in silos and is breaking this down.

  ### 19. Great observatility tool that helps us reduce MTTR

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 11, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The tool helps make our monitoring more mature meaning we can move from a reactive way of monitoring (react after the issue has happened) to a more proactive way (prevent the issue from happening).
Features that help us:
- Standardized visualization
- Great topology and telemetry functionality, each team has a dedicated view but is also looking at the same data and topology as other teams
- Easy to drill down to the root cause of issues
- Setup as a data platform so it integrates well with various data sources
- User-friendly with a low learning curve
- Good and quick support from the Stackstate team when we need it

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The tool is relatively young, meaning we have encountered teething issues. The supplier is aware and is very supportive of solving these. My company is also quite strict with its security settings, this sometimes leads to installation issues. Again, the stackstate team is very supportive of solving these.
Furthermore, the UI does not always handle long component names very well.

**Recommendations to others considering SUSE Cloud Observability:**

If you are looking to make the next step in your monitoring landscape, and you have your component monitoring in place, this tool is worth a try. Contact Stackstate for a demo first and ask for a try-out period.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Stackstate helps us improve the visibility of our IT landscape. We use it to improve our availability, reduce our mean time to repair and improve our customer experience.

  ### 20. The right direction

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rinaldo B. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Complete overview of your IT infrastructure.
No more silos views.
Customizable.
In principle, you can add/visualize whatever you want, from servers and databases to relations, logs, changes, applications, switches etc.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Customization can be better, but StackState is still young and is working on the feedback.
Documentation can be better (I would add more figures and schemes and less text).

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not always being able to quickly pinpoint the cause of a problem in the IT landscape. Exactly because we still use silos-view (not enough view on connections).
We are still implementing StackState, so it is a bit early, but from what we are seeing we are confident we will be able to drastically reduce time to find and solve problems.

  ### 21. Stacksate is the missing link for our Monitoring/Metrics/Observability

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2022

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

The timeline to visualize topology and status in the past.
Good out-of-the-box-integrations with other systems.
Easy to write custom integrations for nearly every system you can think of.

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Had to do many customizations to get it running on our Openshift-Cluster.
AD-Authentication does not support nested-group-memberships yet.
More authentication types would be nice.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Faster root-cause anaysis.
Better overview for our infrastructure.
Better overview of our applications and services.
Everybody has access to the same data and views.

  ### 22. Observability Swiss Knife

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ♛ Ram G. | Full-Stack Tech Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Commitment and tenacity to achieve proposed goals
Very easy to integrate data from several distinct systems
Availability of their people to support the customer

**What do you dislike about SUSE Cloud Observability?**

Nothing to point to much at this stage, except that Stackstate had no expertise in TV Services wich cost us some time to get right information to deploy the views of the service.

**What problems is SUSE Cloud Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We as a company need to have an E2E view of the TV service. Until this point, we were capable to track some flows end to end specialy in some solutions called black boxes and were we where blind
