**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

What I like most is being able to bring logs, metrics, and application performance data together in one place. The dashboards and search capabilities make it much easier to investigate issues without having to jump between multiple monitoring tools. I also appreciate the flexibility to customize dashboards and alerts based on what the team actually needs.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

The biggest downside for me is the learning curve. There are a lot of features and configuration options, so it takes some time to figure out where everything is and how to get the most out of the platform. Log filtering, along with some of the more advanced capabilities, could also be more intuitive and easier to navigate for first-time users.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main problem it helps solve is having application, infrastructure, and log data scattered across different places, which can slow down troubleshooting. Elastic Observability brings logs, metrics, and traces together, so issues can be investigated from a single platform. I found this especially useful for adding context around performance problems and narrowing down potential root causes without needing to switch back and forth between multiple monitoring tools.

Elastic Observability provides a single pane of glass for logs, metrics, and traces, making it easy to investigate issues, identify root causes, and monitor system health in real time. Its powerful search and visualization capabilities significantly improve operational efficiency.

The main drawbacks are the learning curve, complexity of configuration, and potentially high ingestion/storage costs at scale. Some troubleshooting and dashboard customization tasks can also require significant expertise.

Elastic Observability helps solve the challenge of monitoring distributed applications and infrastructure by bringing logs, metrics, traces, and APM data into a single platform. This allows us to quickly identify performance bottlenecks, investigate incidents, and determine root causes without switching between multiple tools. UI / UX

The interface is clean and well organized. It is easy to navigate between logs, metrics, and other observability data, and the dashboards make it simple to get an overview of the current system status.

Integrations

I like the range of integrations available. It makes it easier to collect and centralize data from different applications and services in one platform.

Performance

Elastic Observability performs well when searching and analyzing large amounts of log data. Queries and filtering are generally fast, which is especially useful when troubleshooting production issues.

Pricing / ROI

The main value for me is having logs, metrics, and observability capabilities together in one platform. It can save time during troubleshooting and make it easier to identify and understand problems.

As a cloud infrastructure engineer managing diverse environments across EKS, Docker Swarm, and AWS, Elastic Observability provides a unified pane of glass that is invaluable. What I like best is how seamlessly it correlates logs, metrics, and APM traces across the entire stack. Instead of jumping between different monitoring tools for Kubernetes clusters and varied deployments, Elastic brings it all into one highly queryable interface. The powerful search capabilities and intuitive visualizations make troubleshooting complex CI/CD pipeline bottlenecks or microservice latency issues significantly faster, drastically reducing the mean time to resolution. While the platform delivers immense value by drastically reducing our mean time to resolution across diverse Kubernetes and AWS environments, the total cost of ownership requires active management. The unified visibility and correlation capabilities are definitely worth the investment for an infrastructure team, as they save countless engineering hours each week.

However, as log volumes and metric cardinality grow, the associated costs—whether that means compute and storage for self-managed clusters or the pricing tiers for the managed cloud offering—can escalate quickly. To truly get your money's worth, you have to be highly disciplined about data retention policies, cold storage routing, and index lifecycle management. If you maintain strict data governance, the return on investment is excellent, but without it, the storage costs can easily start to outpace the value.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

While Elastic Observability is incredibly powerful, the learning curve can be steep, particularly when it comes to mastering its query language for complex log analysis. As a generalist infrastructure engineer managing diverse environments across Kubernetes (EKS), Docker Swarm, and AWS, I find the initial manual setup and dashboard customization to be quite time-consuming. It lacks enough out-of-the-box, pre-built dashboards that could immediately simplify insights for cloud-native deployments. Additionally, at scale, resource consumption—specifically system memory and disk I/O—can become demanding, and managing index lifecycles requires constant attention to avoid unexpected storage costs and performance bottlenecks. Incorporating more automated configuration assistants and expanding the repository of plug-and-play templates for containerized microservices would significantly reduce the initial onboarding friction and ongoing maintenance toil.

To enhance the user experience and streamline operations, Elastic Observability could benefit from the following improvements:

Managing disparate environments across AWS, Kubernetes clusters, and containerized workloads previously created fragmented monitoring silos, making end-to-end root cause analysis slow and cumbersome. Elastic Observability solves this by centralizing distributed logs, metrics, and APM traces into a single, unified pipeline.

Having full-stack visibility in one place has drastically cut down our mean time to detection (MTTD) and resolution (MTTR) during production incidents. Correlating deployment changes directly with latency spikes and microservice bottlenecks across our CI/CD pipelines has eliminated guesswork, saving valuable engineering hours each week and ensuring higher system reliability and uptime.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I like Elastic Observability because it provides strong log, trace, and metric visibility. It makes operational data easier to understand and interpret, and it helps turn that data into useful insights.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

One thing I find challenging about Elastic Observability is the learning curve, especially for people who are new to Elasticsearch, Kibana, and query languages like KQL or ES|QL. On top of that, there are many configuration and customization options, which can make the platform feel a bit overwhelming and complex at first.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, the biggest benefit is faster troubleshooting and root-cause analysis. Rather than checking a metric in one system and then switching to another to dig into logs or traces, I can follow the issue across the different signals in one flow. This reduces the time it takes to identify and resolve incidents, and it also gives me clearer visibility into what’s happening in the environment.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I think Elastic Observability is a great platform to see how devices are working and to troubleshoot issues like whether a user's device is turning on. It provides all the details at once place, which is helpful for root cause analysis. I also appreciate being able to see the performance of APIs, checking if they are taking too long or encountering errors. The setup is straightforward, even at the entry level, and I find working with queries to be a good experience.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Sometimes Elastic Observability doesn't work until I open it in a different tab, which is kind of frustrating.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Elastic Observability to troubleshoot user device issues and monitor API performance, seeing all telemetry data and API calls in one place, which helps in analyzing problems quickly.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

We used it mostly for logs, and its easy to manage teams and roles so user dont get permission to see logs that they should not see, which is very important in banking system

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Updates are coming very fast, you have to keep up with them and watch expetionaly for major updates. Sometimes there are some metadata that take storage and are not easy to deal with

Elastic solves problem of having easy access to logs so you can much easier find problems. Its a place for most of statistics with logs, metrics, datastreams etc

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

Smart search feature that lets me search a huge set of data instantly, since indexing happens immediately upon ingestion. With other data lakes, indexing typically takes much longer to complete, so searches aren’t available as quickly.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

One thing I dislike about Elastic Observability is the learning curve. You need to get comfortable with tools like the Elastic Query DSL, Kibana Lens, and the QL language, and that takes time. Because of this, team adoption can be slower than expected.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Elastic Observability lets us query huge amounts of data in seconds. We use fraud detection models that require features drawn from a very large dataset of messages and call transcripts, and with Elastic Observability, feature engineering becomes much easier and more straightforward.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I appreciate the ability to quickly search through large volumes of logs and metrics and correlate information from different systems, which makes troubleshooting much easier. The flexibility of Kibana dashboards is another aspect I really like, as we can build customized views for different teams and use cases. The initial setup was relatively easy, particularly for the basic integrations. Elastic agent and the available integrations made it straightforward to start collecting logs and metrics.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Cost management can be challenging, especially with the large volumes of logs and metrics that we collect. It would be helpful to have more built-in tools to identify unnecessary data ingestion and control retention and storage costs. Having clearer recommendations showing which data sources or log types are causing the most ingestion and storage costs would be beneficial for identifying low-value data before it reaches Elasticsearch.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Elastic Observability to centralize logs and metrics, simplifying incident troubleshooting and providing operational visibility across infrastructure. It allows me to search and correlate data in one place, making it easier to understand what is happening system-wide.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

Elastic Observability could provide one stop solution for enterprise observability and security platform. Being a platform engineer, coherence in the platform tools is imporant, from quickly understaning the tools from their opensource availability to enterprise feature, elastic observability stands out. I have used Kibana, and Log search, and I can confidently say, with AI agents prolifirating day by day, the comprehensive solutions, and faster retreival (Agentic Retreival) is going to be a thing.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

I still see there is a gap of having a Tracebility where OTEL Logs can be collected, may be I am not yet aware of it, but that is something I see as a gap. Elastic could really be a complete solution if that is added as one other primary feature.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I think log search and analytics is the primary benefit that is providing our organization. It is well known among deveopers and is providing meaningful out of the box as well automations to us.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

Unified platform to track logs, metrics, events, and data in one place, easy to configure, easy to use, and to create dashboards, we just need to have data in elastic. Great in performance in terms of scale, as we have tested this in large scale SAAS product.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

New ecosystem, so a new learning curve is needed, as configuration can be complex for teams without expertise in the Elastic ecosystem. For complex dashboarding also a learning curve

We are tracking logs, events, and metrics to improve our product and track the funnel, churn rate, performance of the product, and also track alerts in case of any deviations

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I appreciate Elastic Observability for making everything visible with a single dashboard and its ability to monitor my environments effectively. The timeline feature is handy for determining if a problem is connected to a single server or more, which saves time compared to searching on the server itself. What stands out most for me is the AI-powered insights, along with the LLM and Generative AI integrations that enhance its capabilities. I also value the LLM observability, automated pattern detection, and dashboard automation. Plus, the initial setup was very easy and done really fast with just a few individuals.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Dashboard and customization challenges for first-time users. The entire first-time manual setup is pretty time-consuming, also searching through every possible query. If that could be done with an assistant it would save a lot of time.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I used Elastic Observability to track my GKE infrastructure and everything ran smoothly. I appreciate the APM feature the most because it allows me to see the interaction between the more than 80 pods I have on my GKE. Before using this, tracking logs was a nightmare, but APM makes it easy to see how data travels between pods. This helps me identify which ones need attention. Initial setup was really easy, and overall, I'm very satisfied with its performance.

Maybe there could be more pre-built dashboards to simplify GKE insights.

Elastic Observability makes tracking my GKE infrastructure smooth. APM helps me see interactions between my 80+ pods, turning a nightmare of log tracking into identifying which pods need attention.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

It’s quite easy to get started with. The fact that Elastic is technology-agnostic makes it straightforward to learn and to integrate with other technologies. For example, I initially began using it through Google’s Cloud Marketplace, but at one point I hesitated because Google Cloud already has a product called Cloud Monitoring. Still, I decided to give Elastic a chance and try it, and honestly, it’s a terrific product. There’s a lot of AI-related functionality, and the fact that it has an MCP server I can use makes it really easy to implement and work with. I now use it daily as part of my job operations.

Regarding support, I have an MSP contract with a company, so I get first-hand support from them, and only the toughest cases are escalated to Elastic. To be completely transparent, once a case reaches Elastic, the process is quite easy and the response is fast.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

It’s really hard to have a productive conversation with my manager and other decision-makers about why Elastic is a good choice. For example, most of my company relies on New Relic for observability, so it’s difficult to clearly show the benefits of switching or adding Elastic. Other products have stronger “sales” sites and materials that I can use to compare and contrast, but Elastic isn’t very good at selling the product in a way that helps internally. It’s an amazing product, yet I don’t have an effective way to present its value and benefits to C-level stakeholders.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My company is adopting an SRE culture, and Elastic has been easy to implement. It’s also straightforward to create metrics based on our needs. Most tools rely on predefined metrics, whereas in Elastic it’s really easy to create more complex metrics that we can use to assess whether a service is up or down, and whether it’s working or not working.

I find Elastic Observability really helpful for collecting and viewing logs from all of our on-prem servers. The ability to view all logs in one place and monitor server metrics is great. I particularly like being able to view current running processes with Elastic Agent, as it helps a lot when debugging servers and identifying processes that cause CPU usage spikes. The initial setup was very easy and pretty straightforward, which I appreciate. Overall, these features make Elastic Observability a valuable tool for my needs.

It could be overwhelming to view all the logs without any proper filtering for a first time user. Also, there's a bit of a learning curve to know where everything is.

It also gives operators a clear view of the system, making it easier to see spikes and act before they happen, which is great for our online gambling operations. It's powerful to know what's happening on both the system and operator side.

I find it challenging when hardware becomes corrupt and we don't have a view on that. It would be helpful to have a process that alerts us, so we don't lose logs before it happens.

Anomaly detection and categorization can be hard to manage, especially when there’s a high number of unique entities. I also feel it’s missing more built-in dashboards and templates tailored to specific adapters or data sources.

I like one of the best features of the elastic observability is the elastic search, which I really enjoyed. This facilitates a rapid search for the necessary logs and provides a wide range of filter options for querying to extract the necessary data from the logs.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Occasionally, findings may not be entirely correct during the fetching process, and there may be extreme delays. 
And because there is so much integrated and it is not very user-friendly, I find the experience to be a little challenging.

By enabling search criteria and allowing us to view the logs in real time, it makes it easier to find the specific logs we're looking for and helps us avoid hunting for logs on the server in the conventional manner.

there are so many features, unfortunately it is overkill. You need to tune your solution for your own needs. Anyone on the IT industry, who is looking for a observability tool needs to try it at least once(POC, Testing). Elastic defined all the standarts on this observability stack.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Overkill for the details, you need to be preciese about the needs. Otherwise you will get lot of information with no result. The latest AI additions are useless, there needs to be some templating to make things simpler. Ressource consumption is another downside. You need a real cluster with a lot of fast IO disks.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Single dashboard for all your monitoring exports. Later you can combine them with some alert mechanisms etc. Biggest benefit is about correlation between different data streams, so you can observe someone who send a mail from your internal network is at the same time on vacation(which can be caught easily on Elastic)

Elastic Observability is a powerful platform for observing transactions & telemetry customer data so that we can correlate issues within a short duration. This also helps us to handle Mean Time To Resolution (MTTR) efficiently, which is crucial for our end users. Along with the internal state of our applications, we can also gain insights into their dependencies & potential vulnerabilities to prevent production failures.

Improvements in the documentation would be helpful while we work with various data connection and visualization requirements. It will also ease the complexities faced during Agent setup for our environment. Elastic Observability is apt for our enterprise needs as it aggregates, correlates and inspects our application's telemetry data to visualize our functionalities.

Working with log messages, metrics & traces is crucial for identifying what's happening in our environment while the application is deployed. **What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

It allows to search keywords or attributes pushed by fluent D filter in text format and returns JSON documents based on the search keywords and selected time frame. More than going through each Kubernetes log it's easy to search any issue within a few seconds around whole log files.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

When we use the elastic search API over HTTP it will take much time to return the JSON response when the log files' weight becomes terabytes. However, it can be avoided using backup and clearing the old logs from the storage.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Check the issues in Kubernetes clusters in a minimum amount of time. It helps us to reduce the allocated engineers in the monitoring team and is always helpful when it comes to an issue at the Kubernetes level.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I like the watchers feature the most. It is very useful in support lifecycle. we create events n our logging and then we once we create the watchers for the given event. the watcher gets alerted. we can also write an action like triggering a slack notification that will alert the monitoring team. this has helped our team in championing the proactive monitoring.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

in watchers, the queries are limited unlike the free search/ lucene query. sometimes, its difficult to write a complex query for filtering an event in watcher script.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

we are using Kibana to bridge our monitoring and support lifecycle of the applications. Once we receive a failure event in application, we log it which will be picked by the watcher in Kibana and triggers a notification to monitoring team; who in turn looks at the event and decides whether to flag it to support team or not. In this way, we capture production failures much faster.

Reduce the time engineers spend reading log files related to the Kubernetes cluster by using keyword search. Query any indexed keyword within seconds for any timeframe.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

Over time, the query time will increase due to the heavy volume of logs, and Elasticsearch might sometimes hang due to the large volumes of log data. However, backing up old logs and clearing them would help to maintain Elasticsearch's health in a good way.

Monitor the performance issues related to Kubernetes clusters and applications delivered to customers globally in a particular time frame. Furthermore, it helps to display the visual elements in Kibana.

**What do you like best about Elastic Observability?**

I like three things about Elasticsearch:

1 - Its flexibility
2 - Its reliability 
3 - How much the product has evolved over time

I have been using Elasticsearch for some time and even after a few years, I'm still amazed at how flexible and reliable it is. I have been able to use Elasticsearch to ingest millions of events and build queries/dashboards on top of it and every time Elastic has delivered above and beyond.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

There is very little I do not like about Elastic. Maybe one thing that could see improvement over time is the Kibana UI. Sometimes is not counter-intuitive how it works, especially if you're trying to build complex visualizations.

**Recommendations to others considering Elastic Observability:**

Elasticsearch is a flexible tool but it might take some time before you can fully experience the benefits of such a flexible piece of software.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been mainly using Elasticsearch to benchmark/troubleshoot application performance. We use it as a data sink where we ship hundred of thousands of events, on top of which we build different visualizations to analyze our applications' performance and optimize accordingly.

1) Flexibility of integration with almost all the tools and components around the globe.
2) Ease of use.
3) Developer friendly API's and Query mechanism.
4) Super quick.
5) Support for Distributed Computing.
6)Very powerful analytics tool called the Kibana which is the 'K' part of the ELK stack.

1) No multi language support for handling request and response. Means, the request and response can be sent and received in the same language only. No cross language support.
2) Works on near real time. It means there is a lag of at least 1 sec between the time of data input and the time when the data becomes available for search.

**Recommendations to others considering Elastic Observability:**

One must definitely consider using Elasticsearch in their enterprise application suite.
Few reasons being:
1) Did not find any other tool which provides so informative visualisation of logs on a user friendly dashboard.
2) JSON based query language which is easy to learn, adopt and use.
3) Can process millions of records with ease.
4) Can be considered if near real time logging is accepted and real time logging is not required.

**What problems is Elastic Observability solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1) Easy to use, efficient, scalable.
2) Lot of filters provided by Logstash API's which allows integration with almost all the tools and components from different vendors.
3) Powerful and very informative Kibana dashboard. Can be used to index almost all types of data.
4) Supports Distributed Computing. Data is stored across multiple nodes. Hence, making it fault tolerant and resilient.
5) Very powerful tool for visualization of Logs, events that flow across multiple streaming platforms like Kafka, Spark etc.
6) Filtering based on various criteria to narrow down the search results.
7) Search results can be bookmarked, stored in a file, displayed on a console.

I have been impressed by Kibana's flexible layout, which makes it easy to visualize large volumes of data in one place quickly. Kibana has allowed me to put everything I need to see right at my fingertips to make real-time decisions.

It would be great to have more support materials to guide new users in connecting their data and setting up their visualizations. I am intrigued by the machine learning options and would love to understand that more, but I struggle to find suitable materials.

Dashboards and visualization feature in Kibana is really great. There are tons of ways you can visualize and analyse your data. The feature of importing and exporting object helps save time.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

It's a bit complex to integrate kibana as application logging tool. There will be many challenges on setting up agents and if the agent faces some issue then that can cause issues in log file rotation. Data is retained for less number of days and it can become more expensive if you need more data retention period. However, it does offer cold storage.

**Recommendations to others considering Elastic Observability:**

If you are moving to Kibana from any other vendor and are not aware of ELK then I would recommend first learn about it and then use the tool because it will help you gain knowledge on how data exactly flows from application server to the dashboards.

We use Kibana for API logging and monitoring. Using different visualization we created log dashboards in order to help us identify problems in our system and make changes.

Kibana along with Elasticsearch is such an useful and great open-source tool. In several projects we depend on ELK stack for monitoring and alerts. When it comes to searching for logs and errors, this is one of the best solutions out there in the market.

**What do you dislike about Elastic Observability?**

The query language can be tricky. Even setting up certain alerts needs a certain level of tool and scripting. With the understanding of its scripting syntax, it can be hard to use this tool.

**Recommendations to others considering Elastic Observability:**

It's an open-source tool that can be used in many different ways. It can be used for log aggregation, monitoring & alerting, or even as dashboard reporting. I would highly recommend this in many different scenarios.

There are a bunch of things that I like about Kibana:
1. Beautiful visualization: The visualization provided on the interface is a very handy tool during debugging.
2. It also provides an interface to monitor and manage our Elastic cluster
3. We can filter logs on the basis of various parameters. This has come out to be the most important tool in our daily work and especially during incidents.

There is nothing I dislike. It is going great with the application. The details we are provided are very specific and you can also use Search API and python packages to integrate with your scripts.

Best thing about Kibana is the ease of conversion of visualization and dashboard into reports as we need reports to send to business daily for log and alerts. Also, automatic alert generation is an outstanding feature.

Installation of external plugins require lot of effort and very difficult to install on the first go. If a dataset is too large, there are better options, or you can use Mongodb etc. UI can be further improved.

Elasticsearch is a larger version of Logstash that brings together a smaller amount of data/logs. Elasticsearch creates an index for the data gathered, and one can use that index to fetch the data on Kibana or any other visualization tools to create reports.

Elasticsearch is only valid if we are dealing with more significant amounts of data or for companies willing to create reports for archived data of the previous 5 or 10 years.

Kibana is an excellent tool to analyze log data and monitor or track logs for various applications. It is extremely user friendly Writing queries is also not rocket science and can be learned within a few minutes.

Installation is not very simplistic. The URLs are incredibly long; although there is an option of a short URL, it can timeout quickly. You then have to write the entire query again.
