SaaS operations management, or SaaSOps, is a process of managing, governing, and securing SaaS products within a business. SaaSOps solutions are designed to provide businesses with greater control and visibility over their SaaS portfolios. These solutions offer a central point from which software administrators can—among other things—manage user and team access, licensing and spending, IT workflows, integration integrity, data and access security, policy adherence, and SaaS-related process automation.
SaaSOps solutions are required to integrate with a huge array of SaaS offerings, as well as offer automation capabilities (e.g., automatic permission assignment by role during onboarding) related to any connected solutions. These products can also have functional nods to SaaS spend management tools by offering visibility into SaaS usage and fiscal value; they also have some effective similarities to software asset management regarding solution management. Furthermore, SaaSOps solutions can perform some similar functions to security tools, especially around access management. SaaSOps platforms, though, are designed to act as full-visibility, broad-functioning central command points for all SaaS management, governance, and security needs.
To qualify for inclusion in the SaaSOps category, a product must:
Provide visibility over a company’s full range of SaaS solutions
Allow administrative control over individual user and team access
Manage solution integrations and policy adherence
Dictate security and privacy policies relating to SaaS access and usage
Provide process automation capabilities surrounding SaaS administration
