What do you like best?

I really like the simplicity of the Altaros panel, is really very simple to use.

I also enjoyed the integration with Wasabi Storage.

Backup storage with Altaro is very cheap by integrating Wasabi

It is possible to set up local and remote storage locations very easily.

CDP provides an additional layer of security in case of a ransomware attack.

Deduplication is amazing, saves approximately 70% of the data! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

It does not back up Linux physical machines or Windows desktops. It would be perfect if it did.

could have option for cloud disaster and recovery, possibility of performing a backup restore directly on Amazon or AWS, it is will be a great feature if exists. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It should be considered that it does not back up linux physical machines.

There is only support for physical Windows Server and provisioning will only be possible on a hyperV VM Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm just using it to back up my clients virtual machines.

The backup process runs perfectly, and I sleep more peacefully now, with the logs sent daily in my email.

Response from Angelica Micallef Trigona of Altaro VM Backup for MSPs

Thanks for your review of Altaro VM Backup for MSPs. We really appreciate your input. Should you wish to back up physical Windows desktops, you can do so with Altaro EndPoint Backup for MSPs, managed via the same multi-tenant console you are already used to. We don’t yet support direct recoveries on cloud infrastructure but will be starting with Azure VMs (launch date as yet to be confirmed).

What do you like best?

Altaro for MSPs is so simple and easy to use. The intuitive web portal is great and appealing to users with any level of skill and experience in a BDR solutions role.

The Altaro Management Server allows us to fully manage and maintain our own clients backups within our own control, without the need for a third-party solution. Our clients are reassured and love this 'one supplier' solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We had significant issues in setting up the Off-Site Server. This has now been resolved but took some time initially.

When we would like to manage a client server backup, we must login locally on that client server and run the Altaro agent locally. If we were able to manage the server from the Altaro Central Management Server it would be brilliant and save a shed load of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Replication and Verification of backups is just awesome. A great feature that allow us to demonstrate the exceptional level of resilience and protection provided with Altaro software. Spinning up server backups is a quick and simple process.

Altaro will allow us to generate new new revenue streams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

There are many VM backup products out there, but few that can compete with the likes of DATTO and this was it for me. With a centrally managed web interface for all my clients, I can setup my own on-site and off-site backup locations. This is VERY powerful as I'm no longer a slave to specific server hardware or high priced third party off-site locations. Glandular restore, including exchange mailboxes and messages are even easier than all others I've tried. The overall cost to our company is pennies compared to the rest, and I believe this product is just as good, if not better, than all the rest. I've been with Altaro since it's beginning and I can honestly say their support team only gets better and better every year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

For a perfect product, Altaro needs a physical server backup solution that can restore to physical hardware. The current version will only restore as a VM, and while that's powerful in it's own right for migrations and transitions, A physical server backup and restore to physical server would make this product the very best solution for smaller MSPs like us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The immediate problems solved are the elimination of high cost off-site storage and the high cost of hardware for the local backups. This product is a game changer for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The backups are so reliable that I almost don't have to monitor it. I have been using it for years and Altaro is constantly adding new features and improvements to the software. From a pricing point, I think its the most attractive in the market. I have used other vendors for backups and cost has always been an issue as well as ease of use. Altaro is great in all these areas. Lastly, the offside backup function is impressive even over lower speed connections. I have not had to seed an offsite backup in more than two years because the de-duplication and speed is so good that its just not necessary. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Possibly adding more hyper-visors to the list of compatible systems. Altaro is adding new features all the time so I cant really complain about anything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The trial period is all you need to test the product out and love it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is critical that physical and virtual servers are backed up and also stored offsite. With Altaro, I can offer a solution to my customers that is cost effective and world class. I no longer have to rely on someone in the office to take the backups offsite since I can get daily offsite copies to a remote storage repository. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We have been using Altaro VM backup pretty much since its inception. the product has gone from strength to strength. As an "All Inclusive" MSP we offer backup as default on our service packages so we needed a simple, solid, reliable and easy to maintain solution to satisfy these requirements. We use the CMC to centrally manage all our clients and there associated hosts and guest VM's. The CMC gives us a single windows to view backup health, replication health as well as the technical information of each host. The CMC is also great as a single source to update all our clients hosts in one swoop.!

Clients asked about Offsite backups and it was around that time that Altaro released the Offsite Server Solution, is was easy to setup, we host ours at a local data centre and as a bonus its FREE :)

With the addition of replication we no longer have to use the Microsoft Solution of multiple servers to achieve what Altaro VM backup will do with just 2, this saves time and more importantly the client money.

Most MSP's will realise the advantages of "Per Month Per VM" billing too, no expensive one off costs per client. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Occasionally we have had issues with software versions not upgrading and getting stuck in an install loop, however this is cured by rebooting the host server, not a major issue but rebooting a clients host does mean downing the clients guest VM's. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Clients like the fact that we can report back daily by email the backups are complete, both Local and Offsite.

Replication is a real winner, having a standby system ready to roll in an emergency is great news for the clients

Restoration of the complete guest VM, Virtual Disk, Folder, File is also a winner, especially if you use shadow copies and they have lapsed.

Multiple archiving options also help with longer term backups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Altaro is not overly complicated, functionality is great (running backups and more importantly restoring), support is there the instant you need them, and the pricing structure is great for the clients and the MSP. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

We've had compatibility issues in the past where newer versions of Altaro didn't like BUs taken with older versions. Took a bit more time but no major issue. As time goes on that will be less of a problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The multi-tenant platform, where we can get an overview and manage all our clients from a webpage is awesome. We couldn't go back! We also love the ability to host an Altaro Off-Site Server, that we can give clients secure access to, that doesn't require a VPN. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We chose Altaro for our VM backups and Client VM backups because of it's simplicity, in setup and configuration in management and its off-site facilities.

It's as easy as 1 2 3 .. 4 because of the off-site side of things. I like it that the setup does not force you to install additional [microsoft] packages. It's just next next next finish and straight to configuration. Lov'ít. And after setup and configuration the management interface is very logically, you have aquainted yourself with it during configuration. Which Host should be backed up? Which VM's of that Host should be backed up, Where to should it be backed up. When? Done! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The only thing I dislike is that they made it more secure :D let me explain. It used to be that the folder structure on the backup volume was easily, in human readable form, to follow. You could copy the corresponding VHD to where you wanted it. Nowadays it is more obscure. To be honest we never need to use it, only once it the 10 or so odd years we have been using Altaro. I never asked support about it because we're happy with the product. As requested feature I would like a more ways, global kind, of cleaning up the backup location, a feature like "clean up all backups before yesterday", or "clean up all backups before last week" It is there, but per VM. That feature would be potentially harmfull, but so nice to have. All in all there is not much we dislike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

It is easy to rollout, one setup, and straight to customer specific config, which is a breeze.

It has a nice Overview dashboard, can use several ways to notify. Oh and the last backup is the full backup [reverse delta] Compression is good. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We solved the problem of having to buy a license for more machines than we need. And we can do the billing now per vm and per month. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We first tested Altaro in 2016 and have never looked back.

We are a small MSP who relies heavily on this as a sound backup solution for our SMB clients.

The ease of use is outstanding and this has only become better over time.

The de-duplication and compression is second to none, easy to read dashboard, fast backup and restore,

boot from backup, physical machine backup for the host, built in health monitor, continuous data

protection and the list goes on and on. Support team is knowledgeable and available when required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Not much to dislike about Altaro backup, if anything I would like the reporting to be a little more

comprehensive for failure emails, other than this Altaro meets all of our requirements, including backup for O365.

A workstation backup would be handy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you want fast reliable backups with a very easy to understand console then I would definitely recommend you trial Altaro. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Altaro requires minimal administration, takes very little time to configure and have your first

backup under way. More often than not restore of files or folders is required and this is fast and reliable.

We have been extremely satisfied with Altaro, utilised in Hyper-V environments, definitely worth a trial if you are

in the market for a good backup solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We moved from DATTO, Solarwinds Backup and Veeam and love the intuitive design, configuration and use of Altaro. They also keep making it better each month we are very excited to partner with Altaro! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I wouldn't say we dislike anything but hope one day they will also have the ability to remote into our systems when we have an issue to see it first hand rather than forwarding them logs or voice and chat only. It has all worked out and support has been great I just think issue get solved quicker ifbboth parties can see with their eyes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Give it a try if your using any other BDR solution or looking to backup your Office365 and or Physical and Virtual Servers Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were able to create our own BDR Solution with providing our customers a high powered micro PC as a backup server running Altaro with backups every 15 minutes we are extremely satisfied with our move to Altaro and neither would any one else who did. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Our clients love being able to outsource their offsite backup to us and avoid having to have a member of staff responsible for remembering to change the backup drive every day and take it off site and also avoids the chance of backup media being in someones bag which in a fire situation might get left behind. What do you like best?

This is a great fit for smaller clients that might need to backup a server VM or two, especially Hyper-V ones as the software can reside on the Hyper-visor.

Price-point and functionality are hard to beat and the product keeps getting better. Most of the functionality is intuitive after a quick read of the help documentation and support is available. My only gripe is with the management console as you can't change backup configurations in detail but still need to login in o the on-premise client to do so, also reporting could be better. Again for the price point provides good value and keeps evolving. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Management console is more of an overview console as the detailed configuration needs to be done on local client installs. Some of the reporting could be more elaborate (example. Off-site backups could report more detail on size of backup from particular VM's and provide better insights). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Great for MSP's providing services to the SMB market space. Pricing is more affordable without sacrificing on the functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Great solution for clients that don't need an Enterprise level backup (especially if running on Hyper-v). Great flexibility for backup locations and continuously improving functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Whilst not necessarily an Altaro specific issue, I was a little surprised that the physical server backups cost £8 per server per month via our cloud supplier, as opposed to £4 as per the virtual machines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Before implementing the Altaro products for our clients, attempting to manage backups was almost a full time task. Now we simply monitor the console and / or check our email alerts to ensure that operations are running smoothly. We have already utilised the software to completely recover two separate clients from ransomware attacks - this recovery was completed within 24 hours, something which would have simply been impossible prior to our adoption.
