I use iDrive for backing up my NAS data to the cloud. The cloud integration is so seamless that I just forget after setting up once. I do recall I had to restore the data back and that was an easy exercise too! The user experience can be a bit better (for example you need to login separately for NAS and then iDrive account), but that is minor. What I like is it just works! The synchronisation performance does not have any negative impact on my NAS, which is great too. Then comes the price! While exploring many options, iDrive came out to be one of the cheapest, but definitely not short of great features. Considering all of this, it's highly recommended! By pointing my Veeam destination path directly into the IDrive Cloud-Drive local directory on a dedicated storage drive (my T: drive), it completely eliminates double-handling files. Veeam drops the massive system restore points in, and IDrive instantly detects the changes and pushes them to the vault. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2? The standard Windows desktop client needs some refinement for power users. Out of the box, it defaults the sync folder straight to the Windows boot drive (C:). If you are pushing nearly a terabyte of server data like I am, it will instantly overflow your system partition and choke the OS. You have to actively go in and remap it to a high-capacity data drive before you start. Additionally, the standard GUI app is a bit of a resource hog to leave running constantly in the system tray. For a clean, automated server setup, it would be a massive upgrade if IDrive made it much easier to deploy a completely headless, lightweight CLI configuration right from the start, rather than relying on the heavy desktop interface. It solves the issue of having to write complex, resource-heavy transfer scripts just to get local backups offsite. Instead of waiting for Veeam to finish and then running a massive copy job, IDrive acts as an automatic, parallel intake valve. It securely holds my core system files exactly where they need to go, giving me a reliable, automated offsite vault that just ticks away in the background without needing manual intervention every night. I love that they have an Express service where they ship a hard drive to you so you backup to the drive instead of over the cloud, so it’s obviously much faster. What do you dislike about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2? I’ve found the software to be very finicky and buggy. Backups randomly get stuck or fail for seemingly no reason. The backups are still really slow even with a super powerful SSD and CPU in my computer. Doing the initial backup was pretty frustrating and it took many failed attempts over the course of two days. One thing I would recommend is using PowerToys’ Awake feature if you’re on Windows. If your PC locks or the screen turns off, the backup can get stuck. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. I love that IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2 is very easy to use and very fast. I never have any issues with my backups, which was a concern for me given my 2GB fiber connection. When I need to download, the speed is also very fast. The initial setup was very easy as well; I just signed up, started the backup, downloaded the software, and it detected my PC automatically. I like how I can add and exclude folders easily within the software. I've been using them for years now, and the 5TB for the first year at $49.95 was a great offer, along with excellent upload and download speeds. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. This is a real limitation as I will get messaged I have used up my 5TB and that I need to clean it or upgrade. I then have to manually go into each folder and delete the oldest backups. I would like to see an option that when it gets too large automatically remove older backup sets. What I like most is the seamless automation of off-site backups. The initial configuration is very straightforward, and the incremental backup system works smoothly in the background without affecting everyday PC performance. The main selling point was that initial backup could be done via iDrive Express, where iDrive ship a hard drive to the customer for the first backup and once returned and uploaded to iDrive's servers, then online backups can begin proper. In my case, the Express service was very very slow when it came to uploading from the returned hard drive to their servers, and the support team just keeps repeating that it will take a day or two. It took almost two weeks to get fully uploaded but the incremental and scheduled backups are now working easily and quickly. Restore functionality seems fine also.
