Is this a paid review or not, since I’m getting reimbursed for my year’s usage? IDK—you decide. Take my review with a grain of salt if you must. For the price, the storage space is competitive, and if you look at the additional storage included for cloud backups (if you buy 5TB, you get an additional 5TB of cloud drive storage), it feels market-leading. It’s encrypted as well, and it doesn’t count against your core allocation of drive space for file/folder and full-disk backups. I’m still getting my head around how to use the two buckets of storage most effectively, but I’m thrilled to have all the space—even if I were paying the full $99 annually. **What do you dislike about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2?** I had a lot of trouble wrapping my head around the Scheduled Backup tab in iDrive. The backup set names really need clearer explanations. I struggled to tell what “IDMachineBkset” versus “Default BackupSet_User” were actually meant for. It took me an embarrassing couple of days to realize that “IDMachineBkSet” is for whole-device backups, while the “Default BackupSet_User” schedule is for file/folder backups (and not for cloud drive storage, which seems to be a separate bucket of data you have to manage). Another confusing point is that you can run an entire machine backup immediately from the schedule tab, but doing so clears out your scheduled task. After the manual backup finishes, you have to go back in and set the schedule up again. I also don’t like that there’s no option to cap my storage usage. I received an email this morning telling me I either need to pay $0.25/GB per month in overages, delete the files immediately and remove them from the backup sets, or upgrade to a new tier. I’d much rather be able to set a hard cap so that once I hit it, new files simply aren’t backed up and I get an error email or an in-app message. As it is, I’m risking overage charges if I don’t check my email quickly enough. Even thoiugh it was not a deciding factor in my purchasing decision - the pricing is VERY attractive and fair - I have not used any of the AI/Intelligence powered capabailities features so far - but might look at them later on if they can help my digital backup process. I was previously using other well known providers but one charged for a measly 100GB which wasn't enough so I purchased storage from another well known provider again which wasn't great value for money. This was problematic as when wanting to share or show photos/vids from my android one of the apps was not android based and meant I had to use a bridging app which was clunky and subject to traffic limitations. The other didn't always have what I was looking and managing these files across two apps was rubbish. IDrive suits far better as I just install the app and can access ALL my photos on one place. The plan gives me plenty of space for personal documents and media without breaking the bank. The interface is simple enough that I don't need to constantly fiddle with settings.

I'm only a month in, so I haven't put it through an extreme stress test, but so far it's doing exactly what I need—reliable, quiet backup without any hassle.

The cloud integration is so seamless that I just forget after setting up once. I do recall I had to restore the data back and that was an easy exercise too! The user experience can be a bit better (for example you need to login separately for NAS and then iDrive account), but that is minor. What I like is it just works! The synchronisation performance does not have any negative impact on my NAS, which is great too. Then comes the price! While exploring many options, iDrive came out to be one of the cheapest, but definitely not short of great features. It doesn't stop there, however. Backup works, and the product doesn't advertise any more than simplicity. If you have media, you still must use a media application to open files, and so on with all file types. The beauty of the product is allowing two way backup with lots of storage for cheap. It's great that they offer low priced cloud backup and integrations. Getting all this in one package anywhere else could cost a fortune. I have had zero data loss issues. The one drawback is that jumping in manually is sometimes needed. It's fine with me though as it is quick and simple. User interface is solid. It's actually a little old school. I have had no need for support yet. It is nice that upselling and extra charges are clear. If anything comes up I have been told that I need to upgrade or get charged for overage. Which is another thing, the amount of space you're getting for the price is unimaginable if you were to buy a SSD of the same size, and then you wouldn't even get cloud functionality. The set up process was so simple. Using the native app streamlined the hell out of the system as did auto-backups and syncs.The trash folder saved my life more times than I care to admit. Nothing is permanently deleted unless you intentionally navigate over to the folder and delete from there. Even if you're not very tech friendly, the trash function acts as a failsafe in case you screw something up while trying to move docs around or get them off your computer and store them on the drive. **What do you dislike about IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2?** iDrive is designed to be irritatingly difficult to leave. in order to get my stuff off the drive I had to use the app to sync 50GB (the amount of free space on my laptop) at a time to the cloud drive folder on my computer. then i had to pick all those files up and move them to a SSD or another cloud and then start a new sync, effectively removing the last 50GB from my laptop and uploading the next 50GB and I had to work in chunks like that to move a little under a TB of data. which was annoying. Also, the sticker shock after those epic sign up promos can be a nasty surprise. That's ultimately why I had to leave. The platform offers a quick and minimal effort way of backing up all of my files as a handy second backup to my physical Time Machine.
