What do you like best?

The direct customer support is great. Many occasions got answers after hours. Product works as advertised. We are getting very good performance out of the system, and when we faced some misconfigurations , the support team was there to help us any time. Their support system is very transparent, integrated directly into the web interface. So far our tests only included vmware esxi vm backups and a few restores to test the system. There were no glitches with it. I particularly like that only the source is licensed, so we were able to roll out several off-site data backup locations to further protect the vital parts of our infrastructure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

There is no problems with Nakivo so far. I have only a minor grievance, that is in our scenario, we are running a second hypervisor just for the vcsa service, and in order to back that up I need to make manual clones to the main hypervisor, because it was only licensed to the 2 processors in the main system. It would be nice if all versions would include domain integration, so the deployment would be more secure than a single user/password pair. I wouldn't mind some sort of a feature that the transponders would not have to be offline for scubbing, because in some of our datastores it takes well over a half a day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Add maybe support for domain integration to all services. Consider a different approach for integrity check and cleanup that doesn't completely disable the transponder (or make the backup queued so that they would execute when scrubbing is done) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a quite easy-to-manage, turnkey solution for our backups. Complexity in our backup systems reduced greatly by investing in the Nakivo solution. And now that the reports come daily it is a lot safer and more efficient to keep an eye on the backups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It took me only few minutes to configure my first VMware backup to QNAP 451+ NAS, even-though I have never used or never seen the product before.

NAKIVO support is really good, they reply back to you immediately if you have any issue with the product.

It is really worth the money we have spent for NAKIVO Backup licenses since it does the job perfectly and the licenses are really cheap. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

At the time when I configured NAKIVO Backup for VMware 6.7 U3, it did not identified VMs on my VMware platform. So, I had to get a patch. But after a week NAKIVO team was able to release their latest permanent build with VMware 6.7 U3 support with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Go for it, It is really cheap and does the job perfectly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Recently our Active Directory was crashed and stopped working, luckily with help of NAKIVO Backup I was able to recover the whole VM and start using the AD as it was before.

Report generation for auditing purpose is really easy. It takes me only few clicks to generate a report. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The ability to convert a standalone server to VM and the addition of tape and VTL support for backup was the only thing pending. Very simple and clean interface. Not many tabs to move around. Very easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Nothing as of now. With the introduction of 9.1 version, most of the inabilities have been rectified. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Easy, quick and no hassle backup software. Now with the support of Tape and VTL and with SQL plugin, it covers all aspects for a proper backup system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Nakivo Backup and Replication for it self has already very important software features that I give high-value importance such as the storage encryption and the large data accessibility on various type of file systems shares like CIFS,NFS, AFP and last but not least ZFS, but adding this software to the high range potentiality of a raspberry pi creates a easily configured device that can actually be portable to test in many network infrastructures. The external storage scale-ability is one of the strongest points in this method of backup application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The Software for itself has no Cons, the only downside is the raspeberry bandwidth limit on USB speed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Just try it out and see if it fits your needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Very fast backups + built in deduplication saves storage space. Very reliable, we've never had any failed backups with Nakivo. Support team is very responsive and competent and they always checks if ticket has been resolved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Bit pricey, but still very well worth it's price tags. Good products do have their price for an reason. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Absolutely worth trying. Easy to install and if you have eg. Qnap NAS, you can install Nakivo directly to NAS and offload some resources from VMWare to NAS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Backup reliability (we switched from competing product which we had too many problems with). Nakivo has been working very reliably and it's restore speed is very impressive, especially with FlashVM boot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

You can get all the features in one product easy to install, configure and update due to ready to run OVA appliances. The web interface is easy to use and you can create a user that can recover files without touching the VMs. Many powerful features such as replication, self healing, backup to the cloud, etc are included at no addictional cost and it works with free ESXi.

Technical support is very prompt in answers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the web interface is not so fast when you are over the internet but is even simpler to deploy than a dedicated console. Waiting for an offload to Microsoft Azure in addiction to the Amazon AWS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

What do you like best?

You get NAKIVO to a much lower price than big competitive manufacturer (veeam) while offering everything you expect and need to keep valid backups of your virtualized environment.

NAKIVO even offers "Apps" for the major NAS brands to run the software direct on your NAS which reduces cost. Mostly I would recommend to use the Virtual Appliance as you should have this little ressources on your ESXi/Hyper V Cluster if you need such a Virtual Machine backup solution... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

If you still use older ESXi versions in combination with older exchange servers (for example ESXi 4.1 with Exchange 2007) NAKIVO won't be able to use log truncation. Also you have to install a alternative "transporter" to use older ESXi versions - every time you did an update of NAKIVO itself. But that's not a big deal and won't affect many of us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If you search for a Backup solution for ESXi/Hyper V use the Trial of Nakivo and check the license prices. You won't regret it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

The most use full and best thing about Nakivo Backup and Replication is that it really works out of a box and with very little prerequisite involved. The configuration process is really simple. Plus as a system it does not brake up. If there is a error in job you will find it in FAQ most of the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The only downside i see is some times the component involved in the process confuses you. like transporter service and also adding or increasing storage of the appliance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Nakivo is very client friendly, so its make it more easy to assign people to maintain the backup and replication jobs. Second big advantage its is value to money if compare to other product available in the market Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

We were searching for a backup solution for our customers - of course we had a brief look at all the well known and widely used solutions. As NAKIVO is now able to backup Hyper-V in addition to VMware we gave it a try. I have never seen a backup solution that is so easy to set up - I'm working with this kind of software for over 25 years. It really takes only minutes to get it up and running as mentioned already in other reviews. Backing up is one side - we have also tested the complete site restore of a machine with 8 VMs - everything works as expected. And the possibilty to install NAKIVO as an application on top of a standard NAS is really awful. So for a small environment it takes about one hour to set up a NAS together with NAKIVO.- and you are protected.

Simple to install, easy to understand, possibility to install on Windows, Linux, NAS. Price is in comparison to other products on the market very interesting and makes it possible to use a professional solution even in small businesses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

At the moment I do not see any cons even in comparison to the most used solution(s) out there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Ease of use with multiple platforms support. Knowledgeable support staff.

I especially like that I do not need to use a Windows license to run Nakivo. That was one of my main differentiation between Veeam and Nakivo.

The Nakivo support & maintenance renewal was very simple. Quote, PO, Payment, License in less than a day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The webgui is at times unintuitive. No ability to backup the Nakivo configuration in the even of loosing the backup server.

Sometimes the links to web based KB articles are broken. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Use the trial and consider running Nakivo directly on a storage device if you can dedicate storage device to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Able to backup multiple ESXi hosted machines, without using agents. Simple to do test restores which can include ESXi customisations on the restored machines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Installation options (Linux, NAS - eg. Synology, others, Windows, more!). Ease of use. Great SMB pricing (several tiers of pricing depending on requirements). Excellent pre-sales support. Superb performance. Intuitive interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

GUI feels slightly unpolished, and it would be advantageous to have a more size responsive interface for mobile platforms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

The flexibility in options for installation is outstanding, and the ability to run it on a dedicated off-the-shelf NAS such as the Synology or QNAP is an exceptional bonus. The pre-sales staff was very easy to work with, and were very responsive to all of my questions. I've tried a number backup options, free and licensed, and Naviko was an excellent solution at a very reasonable price. The documentation is excellent, but in reality the software was so intuitive that I didn't need to read it to complete my first backup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have a few SMB folks using ESXi free (hypervisor only), and after a short trial using a test VM, we found Naviko to be an exceptional product. The web GUI is very easy to navigate, and the number of installation options is outstanding! We chose to keep the backup instance off of the ESXi platform, and installed Naviko on the Synology DS218+. Super easy installation, and the product does quick work of backups. The quality of software for the price is simply unbeatable for SMB use, and I imagine Naviko does equally well scaled up to the enterprise level. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It is easy to setup and offers great performance. In addition, we really like the built-in chat option that allows you to instantly talk to Nakivo support. I am really surprised that other companies don't offer the same. It really reduces the learning curve for the product and we were able to get some answers within seconds. We also love the native integration with Synology. Basically, you can have it up and running within minutes. Also loved the ability to download it as virtual machine which would reduce the workload on our windows server once we switch to Nakivo. Last, but not least, we like the current licensing and maintenance cost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The interface itself could use some face lifting. While it is somewhat easy to use, it isn't looking that great. But that's really the only con I could come up with and it isn't really important for a backup solution, is it? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

You should really test it out. While it might not have all the bells & whistles like Veeam, it probably has all the features you really need. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My organization is currently using Veeam Backup & Replication, but since I also recommend solutions to our customers as part of my enterprise architecture consulting work, I like to keep up to date with other products. In general, we are quite happy with Veeam, but many of the latest features are geared towards large customers. This might be great for some of our customers, but for small customers these enhancement also increase the price for features that we don't need. As such, I was really impressed that Nakivo is offering features that many smaller customers have been asking for. For example, you can download Nakivo Backup & Replication as a standalone virtual machine or even as an application installation for smart network storage solutions (e.g. Synology). Why is this important to me? As a small customer, it helps us saving cost for yet another operating system. Furthermore, these options typically also reduce resource needs (CPU and memory). Again, this might not matter for larger customers without resource restraints. What should matter to all customers is that Nakivo Backup & Replication is easy to use and includes enough bells&whistles to keep your data safe. More importantly, it does so at the same speed our existing Veeam solution does. So, yes, we are seriously thinking about switching over. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The web interface is really usefull and allow end user to recover files without interact with a Windows application (we are using Linux and WIndows clients). It's really cheap compared to the other solutions and offer a good support with integrated chat on the main control webpage. From a functional point of view Nakivo allow the replication and implement incremental/full backups and data deduplication. It also allow to exlude from the backup log files that are not always usefull. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The UI looks old but it is ok. Only don't look for "whistles and bells". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Ask for a demo, it will take 20/30minutes and explain you a lot of license related functionalities Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Nakivo I can setup file backup and replication jobs in few clicks. I can have a low downtime (not aiming to 100% uptime) with replication and a second server that will be bringed up when the main server fail. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Coming from a KVM solution and migrating to VMware with two clusters, we were looking into a solution to backup our complete machines. Looking at the obvious competitors and testing a few, we noticed that the other software solutions seemed archaic and sometimes did not do a good job displaying backup progress or adding additional datastores as a backup target. Veeam being the industry standard for VM backups seemed way overpriced for what we want of the software solution. Besides, most used features that we (maybe) want to use in the future are already included in the Professional license.

We use this backup solution for our 2 VMware Essential clusters of 3 machines each. As long as we don't overlap running jobs everything just runs fine without intervention. We already tried to restore from the backups which resulted in a fully functional booting VM without corruption. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

If you really need the extra features other packages offer, you look elsewhere. However, I cannot really think of a reason why anyone would need more features then already included the Professional/Enterprise license. This might be the lack of complexity in our situation :-)

We definitely can't see any downs, since the product did everything it promised and did not crash during our tests and production time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The complete absence of backups, not counting rsync as a backup. We now have backups on site and a backup copy job to our office from our datacenter site. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Incredibly fast deployment ! Provides preconfigured virtual appliances for Vmware and Hyper-V.

Just import VA and start backuping. When backup is running there is low impact on resources.

For small deployments best soulution is to deploy full bacup system on supported NAS device.

I installed it on Synology and everything works from there

(management, transporter and repository in one box).

The ability to have unlimited transporters and repositories makes this backup solution also very useful in larger deployments. Working with console and scheduling backups and replication is very simple Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
