It’s modern and flows so much better than 300. Paying bills is a breeze, and cutting checks is much easier too—fewer clicks, with a process that finally makes logical sense. The ability to upload an attachment is really helpful because when you search the payable, you can see the backup instantly. I also like that the payable header includes an attractive banner showing how it was paid, when it was paid, and the trace #.

I also like how reconciliations flow. Once you click and “match” an item, you can filter it out so it’s no longer an option. This has saved hours of searching for a single transaction, since you can search by payee, method of payment, or transaction amount.

Reporting was always an issue in Sage 300. Here, you can pretty much create any report you want as long as the dimensions are available. The biggest downside for me is the complexity of some sales workflows. In our configuration, certain status changes cannot be reversed, and revisiting a lead marked for future follow-up can require copying the record. That adds extra steps and makes maintaining a clear customer history more difficult.

NetSuite helps us keep track of sales activity across multiple people and accounts. By keeping customer records, opportunities, and quotes connected, it gives us a shared view of each deal and its progress.

For me, the main benefit is being able to identify opportunities that need follow-up, see where deals are getting stuck, and give management a clearer picture of the pipeline. Our sales statuses and saved searches help focus attention on records that need action.

A lot of the material in the Learning Hub and the help documentation is outdated. When I try to follow the steps, it often turns into guesswork because the instructions no longer match the current system.

It also feels like sharing ideas in the Idea Portal is of little use. There are many great suggestions that seem like simple fixes, but they’ve been sitting there for literal years.

On top of that, known defects in the system take a long time to be resolved.

We need to be DCAA compliant and the system helps with this. We have part time employees as well and setting up different PTO accrual plans is easy and being able to automatically post or manually do it gives great flexibility. I have had trouble managing PTO accruals in other systems before Unanet. I like being able to un-post timesheets as well rather than void and have reversing entries. Invoicing is seamless I like the way to enter billable AP vouchers so it solves being able to bill accurately to our Government customers which is 99% of our work. One thing I dislike about QuickBooks Online is that certain features can be hard to navigate, especially when I’m dealing with more complex accounting tasks like correcting transactions or reconciling accounts. I’ve also found that some reports take extra customization before they show the exact information I need. On top of that, the subscription costs can add up as the business grows. Overall, it’s a useful accounting tool, but smoother navigation, more flexible reporting options, and stronger customer support would make the experience even better. **Expensive, unreliable, and created more work than it eliminated**

Our experience with Avalara has been extremely poor. We worked with their team to configure everything according to their instructions, yet in two years they have not prepared a single return correctly. We have had to review, correct, and effectively redo every return they produced.

This was not an occasional mistake or a minor setup issue. It was a consistent failure across the entire relationship. We paid substantial fees for a managed compliance service, but still had to perform the work ourselves to prevent incorrect returns from being filed. Instead of reducing our workload and compliance risk, Avalara increased both.

The platform and service are also unnecessarily difficult to manage. Resolving problems requires significant follow-up, and even canceling a product requires navigating a formal support process and obtaining separate confirmation that billing will actually stop.

Tax compliance is a service where accuracy and reliability are fundamental. Based on our experience, Avalara delivered neither. After two years of incorrect work, repeated corrections, wasted time, and significant expense, I cannot recommend Avalara to other businesses. Carefully review every return they prepare, document every error, and do not assume that paying for managed filing means your returns are being handled correctly. The biggest challenge is that Acumatica can be complex and sometimes requires too many steps to accomplish what should be a simple task. It also takes time to learn where information lives and how different modules and settings interact. Acumatica is helping us centralize information and processes that were previously spread across multiple systems. Native integrations with popular Canadian tax-prep tools are missing, and their support team has limited practical understanding of Canadian tax-code requirements.
