"Good tool for creating moderate level reports"

What do you like best?

If you can dig deep enough, you can get some good customization and functionality out of your charts. This definitely takes some help or a vast knowledge of scripting in things like highcharts.

What do you dislike?

It is hard to get a good layout for detail reports. Something like Crystal is easier to get text data or to create some type of form or document.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

They have a lot of new products that appear to be useful if you know how to use them. Make sure your customer service rep is going above and beyond to ensure you are getting setup correctly. We originally had a bad experience because our initial setup was not what it should be and we missed out on a lot of functionality. Also make sure if you use their "iHub" that you either know exactly what your doing on your own or that the professional services team does a good job at designing to UI/UX. Our UI/UX is very ugly (the BIRT professional services team set it up) and it leads to very bad user adoption.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use BIRT for our detail reports that display text data or for reports that require a specific layout such as a form/document (sales order, purchase order etc)

"Actuate 11 is really good especially for Dashboards"

What do you like best?

The best part which I like about new Actuate 11 SP4 , is that it has been integrated in eclipse. This makes life easier for any person who is new to Actuate and especially from Java background. As a Java developer I have been working in eclipse. Not only that Dashboard feature brings in better user experience.

I attended a training for Actuate 11 SP4 and it is lot of new features including interactive features which makes the User experience awesome, like you can filter a graph or table report with available information. These features were not available in previous versions.

Adding BIRT has been really good for actuate. I would highly recommend this product for any enterprise level solutions.

What do you dislike?

The major issue which I dislike about actuate is availability of books , documents or study material in market. You have to reach out to Actuate folks only for any troubleshooting. There is no open forum where we can discuss about this.

Secondly, I see that Actuate has limitations in terms of standalone reports being integrated to any Web page.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Integrating a standalone report in a webpage. This will give my users ability to design the page with whatever widgets or graphs or reports they want.

"Actuate is one of the best reporting tool"

What do you like best?

Actuate is a very technical product but it can do just about anything. Performance of Actuate IServer is tremendous as it can handle a large volume of reports with many concurrent users. It also supports OLTP very well. It would be great if it supported more databases and if there were more graph types available.

What do you dislike?

Support for more databases, such as other BI tools.

There can be more graph types.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Performance vise it is the nest tool. It can handle thousands of report simultaneously.

We can customize reports upto any level.

we can create our own framework in Actuate.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There are some very complex performance reports, which can not be handled in other tools. If we want to create our own framework in any reporting tool then Actuate is the best choice.

Actuate can handle 50 to 60 sub reports inside a report very well.

Dynamically creating the datasource, chart, graph, reports are the main advantages. We can do any level of drilling, and can create a performance matrix dashboard efficiently.

"Best of Breed in BI Reporting and Analytics"

What do you like best?

ActuateOne is a complete business intelligence platform that can easily be customized to meet your every BI/Reporting/Dashboarding/Analysis needs. The APIs can automate any task you desire and can seemlessly integrate ActuateOne into any environment or application you desire. It is easy to learn, easy to use and is platform and database independent.

What do you dislike?

Although there is a free version of the BIRT report designer along with its report engine and report viewer (available through eclipse.org/birt), the paid version (Actuate BIRT) is a bit pricey, especially for the small to medium sized companies to be able to afford. However, even though the initial investment is high, the ROI is much better (quicker) than any other BI tool available in the market today.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Definitely worth the price as the ROI will be quickly realized. A complete solution that can easily be maintained in-house.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have helped companies across all industries implement ActuateOne as a complete business intelligence solution for all their customers, both internal and external, internet and mobile. The biggest benefit for these companies is quick, complete and accurate access to their data from anywhere in the world.

"BIRT Actuate Enterprise Usage"

What do you like best?

Users can access from any interface, when they need it, from where ever they are working with one set of development tools

Presenting a range of data in a single user interface

What do you dislike?

The Actuate License model is confusing and difficult to navigate.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would try to have a deployment model in place. There are so many different ways to develop/deploy. Having a policy defined early would have helped a lot.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using several platforms to develop and deploy BI content.

"Administrator and Report Developer"

What do you like best?

Adaptability is the best ... with very limited programming you can have Actuate against any kind of situation.

What do you dislike?

Licensing paranoia. It's almost adversarial - Actuate seems to distrust their customers at every turn. Change server components - new license needed. Add uses - new license needed. It's really pretty awful.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Ask about the licensing situation, they push you to go to their enterprise server solution which is much more expensive than their Express solution.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

BI solution - reporting against numerous data-exclusive tenant Informix databases.
