What do you like best?

As a home care software provider, it is extremely important to provide our users with strong day-to-day operational reports. This includes clinical, scheduling, invoicing and financial aspects.

We evaluated several solutions and we found JReport to be the best operational reporting solution on the market. It allowed us to seamlessly create a reporting platform that allows our developers and customers develop reports using the same platform. The ability to embed JReport directly into our application made it the clear winner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

JReport has reporting concept called Business Views which allows for user friendly views and advanced data transformations including authorization. Business Views don’t have all the same supports as their older generic views reporting concepts. The supports are improving with every release.

Also, JReport has two reporting models (page reports and web reports). Web Reports are the more user friendly and accessible but don’t have the same feature set as Page reports. Again, the supports are improving with every release. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If operational reporting (client listings, invoices, etc.) is the primary reason for your reporting framework search, JReport is way ahead of the competition. If discovery based analytics reporting (dashboards, cubes, etc), JReport is competitive when compared to the competition. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We wanted an embedded browser based solution and we had four core use cases. JReport checked all the boxes.

1. Operational Reports developed internally by our developers

2. Operational Reports developed externally by our customers

3. Dashboards developed internally by our developers

4. Dashboards developed externally by our customers

In the past, we have used a number of products to solve each of these use cases so it was a huge benefit to have a single reporting platform that did them all. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

As a hosted software provider it is critical that we deliver efficient access to customer data as well as tools to help them transform it into actionable information. The fully featured report design environment helps them develop custom reports that answer their unique questions. Complicated report templates can be fully designed, developed, tested and published without programmer or IT intervention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Ideally, the JReport Server component that delivers report output to our customers would be provided as a hosted solution. Placing the task of optimization, upgrades and maintenance into the hands of the experts would allow more time to explore new features and added functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a reporting solution that efficiently consumed our XML formatted data delivered through a comprehensive system of web services. This solution needed to provide a GUI report design environment that we could make available to our customers to meet their custom reporting needs. The reporting system needed to be fully featured to include the ability to schedule reports and deliver report output in multiple formats.

What we have realized is that by addressing all of these needs, JReport has added significant value to the software and services we provide to our customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

I was looking for an embeddable BI solution and JReport is the best of breed in this area, head and shoulders over the competition! Their intuitive drag and drop interface allows us to create great looking reports in minutes. JReport architecture is scalable and allows us to serve thousands of users worldwide. Equally impressive was their responsiveness in implementing features required in the Life Sciences industry. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Initially the product lacked some features but their support team reacted quickly to our meet our needs. The JReport desktop designer looks a bit dated, however the Web GUI looks very modern. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Just try it! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our platform was lacking customizable dashboards and analytics. It would have taken man-years to develop a similar solution, then consumed a sizable portion of my R&D budget maintaining it. JReport provides a rich feature set at the right price. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

A ton of options and control over your reports and dashboards. The function builder, for example, is very extensive. If you want to create exactly the report you want, this is the tool for you.

Additionally, the support we have received from Logi has been the best I have ever seen from a technology vendor, both in terms of quality and responsiveness. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

With great power, comes great responsibility -- and, at times, a steep learning curve! Also, the drag-n-drop in the web UI can be a little finicky at times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If your reporting needs are more lightweight, look at Logi's reporting tools. For more serious needs, JReport is the way to go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Speed of report development is amazing. Once we learned all the tricks, we were rolling out production reports in a day. Embedding them into our web apps is easy using either the API or URL's.

Graphing options are extensive and visually engaging. Once configured, ease of use and administration is excellent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Some things are better done in the web based "Web Report Studio" and others are better done in the "JReport Designer" application. My personal preference is the web based interface, and I wish all functionality from the application were available in both places. A few inconsistencies in how you do things between tools makes it a bit confusing to switch between them. It appears that the web interface is improving with each release, and soon there will be very little need for me to use the application for developing reports at all. What do you like best?

The team at Jinfonet has been very good to work with throughout the project. Leveraging JReport for a complex multi-tenat embedded reporting project was never going to be easy, however the final result was a fully embedded solution adopting the look and feel of the host Web Application, seamless single sign-on and performant reports even for very large data sets. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Although there are always issues when developing a complex solution, the teams worked well together and the outcome was a successful project. The learning curve can be steep at times and the Java development tools have some room for improvement in the areas of bulk maintenance for internationalisation. Throughout the time during our trial run of the product, our liaisons were extremely helpful and prompt in their responses to our questions. We are using JReport in a way that is not the norm, yet their team assisted us every time we got stuck. I would like to specifically acknowledge the help that Leo provided our team during the testing phase. What do you like best?

The product can easily embed in our software so our customers have no idea that the reporting is separate from our main application. Our customers demand that we can create complex reports to meet their needs, and also require the ability to create their own reports when they are answering questions related to how their business is running. By using Jreport we can consult with them and quickly build reports for them but at the same time can train on the basics in short time to build their own reports. JReports offers many functions that have been able to satisfy the needs of our clients and we have been able to create reports to the exact specifics per their request. Creating sub reports has also been a huge feature for us and our clients. We also like the ability for Jreports to cache data, flexibility of scheduling reports, and exporting in different file formats without the need for other tools. What do you dislike?

There is quite a learning curve with building reports using the designer and it can be tedious. Some updates feel like they are still in beta due to bugs not caught during the QA process. What do you like best?

JReport is a powerful solution with great flexibility when integrating into an existing software platform. Multiple approaches are offered for defining data sources, such as JDBC or XML. And, it fits naturally within an service oriented architecture. Our team experienced a short learning curve and quickly began producing value for our customers.

Our team appreciates the ease of tracing data on the report back through our platform to the underlying datasource. JReport Designer is precise and very clear on the source and filtering of data for each field or visualization on the report. This greatly decreased our maintenance and support costs compared to other reporting technologies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

JReport Designer provides everything you need to produce a high quality report. However, the user interface, specifically the visual designer, can be tedious, depending on the complexity of the report. Our team spends the significant time, relative to other activities, on the layout and visual aspects of the report.

While the notion of versions doese exist on the JReport Enterprise Server, there is limited support for a revision control system, such as Git. A growing organization with an ever increasing number of reports will face a few challenges to coordinate rapid development across multiple teams and projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Evaluate if JReport will easily fit within your SDLC and integrate with your current technologies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The ability to interact with Java allowed us to embed reports in our application, and create a report center.

The overall ease of use.

The scheduling in JReport is vastly superior to Crystal Reports. We have about 250 scheduled reports that run regularly. It’s very simple to set the schedules up, and add and remove users.

Customization capabilities - we can make a report look exactly the way the business wants it, from the color background to the fonts and highlight colors. The end reports are very professional.

The fact that you can have so many detail sections, you can add as many of the banded sections as you need. The cross tab feature is very nice for certain reporting, you can do sub-reports and call different reports inside of one.

The server is solid. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The bursting reports could be a little more intuitive. Because we don’t do many, so every time we do it, there’s a bit of a learning curve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

When we set it up, I don’t think they quite understood how to do the catalogs and keep the data separate. We have some issues with locking up catalogs if there’s a lot of development. We’re trying to split out reports into more individual. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using Crystal Reports and had a lot of localized reporting and people doing their own spreadsheets. We needed to get all the data and reporting into one location that could be used and shared throughout the company.

Considering our multiple divisions, we’ve saved a lot of time. We’ve saved about the time of one employee per week from running and distributing reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
