What I like most about Microsoft Planner is how simple it is while still being tightly integrated with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It lets teams create, assign, and track tasks through an intuitive Kanban-style board. Its integration with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint makes collaboration feel seamless, so you can stay in the flow without constantly switching between different tools.
Planner also gives clear visibility into task ownership, deadlines, and progress, which helps strengthen accountability and transparency across the team. Features like labels, checklists, attachments, and comments make it easier to organize work and keep everything in one place. I also find the dashboard view with charts especially helpful for getting a quick read on project status and how the workload is distributed.
Overall, it’s a practical, lightweight project management tool that supports better team coordination and productivity without adding unnecessary complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While Microsoft Planner is simple and easy to use, it lacks some advanced project management capabilities. Features such as detailed reporting, task dependencies, time tracking, and advanced workflow automation are limited compared to more robust project management tools.
Another limitation is the restricted customization options. The labeling system is basic, and there are limited filtering and sorting capabilities for large projects. Managing multiple plans across different teams can also become difficult without a centralized portfolio view. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
