## Microsoft Planner Reviews
 ### 1. Lightweight Project Management Made Easy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jitheesh V. | IT INFRA MANAGER, Computer & Network Security, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

What I like most about Microsoft Planner is how simple it is while still being tightly integrated with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. It lets teams create, assign, and track tasks through an intuitive Kanban-style board. Its integration with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint makes collaboration feel seamless, so you can stay in the flow without constantly switching between different tools.
Planner also gives clear visibility into task ownership, deadlines, and progress, which helps strengthen accountability and transparency across the team. Features like labels, checklists, attachments, and comments make it easier to organize work and keep everything in one place. I also find the dashboard view with charts especially helpful for getting a quick read on project status and how the workload is distributed.
Overall, it’s a practical, lightweight project management tool that supports better team coordination and productivity without adding unnecessary complexity.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

While Microsoft Planner is simple and easy to use, it lacks some advanced project management capabilities. Features such as detailed reporting, task dependencies, time tracking, and advanced workflow automation are limited compared to more robust project management tools.
Another limitation is the restricted customization options. The labeling system is basic, and there are limited filtering and sorting capabilities for large projects. Managing multiple plans across different teams can also become difficult without a centralized portfolio view.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Planner helps solve the problem of task visibility and coordination within the team. Earlier, tasks were managed through emails and informal communication, which led to missed follow-ups and unclear ownership. Planner centralizes all tasks in one place, clearly defining responsibility, deadlines, and progress status.

 ### 2. Easy Task Tracking and Seamless Microsoft 365 Collaboration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Microsoft Planner is easy to use and integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365, making team collaboration simple. It provides clear task tracking, visual boards, and straightforward assignment of responsibilities, helping teams stay organized and aligned without complex project management tools.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Microsoft Planner has some limitations, especially in Planner Premium. Not all fields available in the web interface are exposed in the Dataverse tables, which makes integration and automation scenarios more difficult. This lack of consistency can limit advanced reporting and customization options.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Planner solves the problem of organizing and tracking team tasks in a simple, visual way. It helps manage workloads, assign responsibilities, and monitor progress in one place. This benefits me by improving team coordination, increasing transparency, and ensuring tasks are completed on time without the need for complex project management tools.

 ### 3. Planner, good tool but not very intuitive

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** César G. | P, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

The planner enjoys its integration with Microsoft 365, even its free version, although it is very limited. As for the pro version, it opens important features like statistics or the creation of new columns. Planner is online, but like every online tool from Microsoft, an "installable" can be created through Edge. Planner is not easy to use if you are not accustomed to Microsoft 365 tools. Customer support is functional, but slow. I use this tool daily to record projects. It does not require implementation, just understanding it and creating a template.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

It's complex. Everything in the M365 tools has its learning curve, and the same goes for Planner. In Planner, you can do wonderful things, but they are never intuitive. I wish Planner were more intuitive like the competition.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The organization of teams and their tasks. Without a doubt, keeping a record of those responsible for each task improves projects. Planner helps the company maintain detailed control of projects, and through its usage statistics, it helps us understand the detailed tracking of projects.

 ### 4. Project Progress Calculation Needs Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Food & Beverages | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Planner has been helpful with managing my projects and having a singular view of the milestones, tasks, duration, progress. It also has the ability to create reports and visualise the overall health of the project

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

The calculation of a project’s progress isn’t accurate, because it’s based on the total number of tasks and subtasks. This can make a project look further along than it really is, which then makes reporting difficult. On top of that, the interface feels bland, and the Gantt Chart isn’t very appealing to use.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a tool to manage and track the progress of a project. And share with stakeholders to provide them with visibility. It is useful in seeing how the timeline will be affected if milestones or tasks are not met on time

 ### 5. Simple and Effective Planning Tool, But Can Be Slow

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafael L. | Director de Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Everything is where you expect it to be, and I don't miss anything. It has a careful graphical interface that provides a simple and effective user experience. You just have to take care of how you want to organize yourself.

You have at your disposal a great tool to work professionally without needing complex project management software. I use it daily in the office, and I can't speak about customer support service because I have never needed it.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

I use Planner as part of the Office 365 suite, and certainly the implementation is a little tricky if you want to tailor it a bit to the needs of your organization.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Planner is a great help, both for managing my tasks and for reporting the latest achievements to my boss.

 ### 11. TASK AND TEAM MANAGEMENT TOOL

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tej S. | Assistant Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

A Microsoft tool to organize tasks and teamworks, MS Planner provides a hub for team members to create plans, organize and assign tasks. Files can be shared to all members as it also provides a centralised place to share and view files. One can easily integrate task with outlook using MS Planner, discuss a project within Teams. It is easy to use and implementation of basic office tools is quite simple using this tool, making it a day to day tool to be used. Onboarding team gets simplified using the kanban board interface. Email notifications and availaibility of all the information we need in one place makes it a super tool. It is a tool to be used for everyday activities be it at home or at office. Above all since it's a Microsoft product it's customer care is superb.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

The mobile version of MS Planner is very simple and non-customizable. The absence of recurring tasks and Gantt charts also makes it bad. There is no time tracking which makes it difficult to stay on scheduled and monitor yopur team's progress. Also the lack of portfolio management, no access to dashboards limits its usability.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Planner helps in gathering the elements of my prioject and create a project plan accordingly with a beginning, middle and end. It is a top to-do list tool.

 ### 12. Solves your project management headaches

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jaivir S. | Lead Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Best part is its integration with teams. Everything is then at just one place and easy to track, given the documents, schedule or even assignments.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Risks are not really highlighted or tracked in the bucket section as they may be. Ive used monday.com and that has perhaps more features except the integration part.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Management at a basic simple click level from the ease of your microsoft documents is what it greatly solves. I can write and distribute tasks easily. The charts give a dashboard that help with tracking in great ease.

 ### 13. Simple to use but lacks critical features

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chanaka P. | Senior Technical Writer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2024

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Simplicity. Microsoft Planner simplifies task management effortlessly. The visual boards keep our projects organized, and assigning tasks is a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Does not allow users to have sub-tasks and assign them to different people. This is a critical feature that is not available in Microsoft Planner.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I introduced Microsoft Planner to my company's HR team. HR folks are not familiar with agile/scrum. The simplicity of Microsoft Planner allowed them to adopt agile principles in their operations with ease.

 ### 14. To plan or not to plan.

 ### 16. Straightforward, Basic Planner Tool for MS Office Users

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samuel S. | Donor Database & Contributions Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Very low barriers to implement. Well integrated with MS Office apps and intuitive for anyone already using the Office suite (free with 365). Useful to monitor straightforward and repetitive tasks.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Best suited to smaller organizations and simpler projects. Really more of planning/task management tool than a full project management tool, as it does not include time/risk management nor does have a dashboard to view multiple projects at the same time.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping repetetive weekly and monthly tasks from being overlooked by team members who work remotely. Easily track who is working on what component of the Finance Department's monthly close processes.

 ### 17. Planning made easy

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Peter W. | Web Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

It's ease of use, with the clear labeling, filtering and channel options, it makes adding and editing cards incredibly straight forward, even for new users.
With Planner being included as part of Office 365, your team can stay and work all within one central application.
The ability to seamlessly switch between the web application, desktop app and mobile app makes using Planner on the go and on different devices very easy.
You can easily time spent on particular tasks, with Planner also giving information on who completed what and when in various useful charts and graphs.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Though on the whole, it is easy to use, the drag-and-drop feature can be cumbersome and hard to use, especially on long and detailed boards.
Users can post comments on different cards but are unable to edit them. Making it troublesome if an error is posted.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Planner as a team allows us to accurately plan the week/sprint ahead. Assigning tasks to colleagues, giving deadlines and an estimated timescale.
At the end of the sprint we can then gauge if too much work was assigned to a particular colleague, and if any improvements in deadlines have been met.

 ### 18. A trello clone but with confusing UI

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gonçalo V. | Agile Coach, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

The fact that it's for free, integrates with teams and the web interface. The possibility to have several persons responsible for a card

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

The way it integrates with teams seems confusing. The web interface is somewhat better but still not as good as Trello. It also tries to be a mix of kanban and list management which makes it more confusing

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Planner:**

It's free if you have an office 365 account. So try it

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

To create a visual plan, align teams on where we are and what do we need to do

Lack of predefined options to set for each project status. In a way this is positas well since any status can be entered to share the progress but maintaining the consistency would be lost.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Each and every task is being tracked as required and constant reminder helps to complete the tasks on time. Misses in project delivery is reduced due to these reminders.

I love being able to separate what I need to do into different categories/buckets.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

It can only be used for those with a Microsoft account.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping track of tasks for different people digitally.

 ### 34. Wonderful

**Reviewed by:** Shikhar G. | Associate Project Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

 ### 35. Planner Review

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Easily accessible within Microsoft ecosystem.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Doesn't open up to last task, hub only shows all workspaces

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Assignment of tasks and timeline

 ### 36. Great team management tool

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 02, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

This tool is great for collaborating. It is easy to create projects, tasks, and deadlines. You can assign tasks to team members, and there's even a comment section to manage questions/updates/details.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

There isn't a way to set a reoccurring task, so adding those tasks weekly or monthly is tedious. I also wish you could delete or update the note section of each task as project requirements and urgency can change.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With my team being fully remote, Microsoft Planner allows us to collaborate better. Our team can easily set, manage and meet expectations. Having a user-friendly experience also ensures we quickly onboard new team members.

 ### 37. Planner review - Easy to use

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Harshal R. | PM, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 05, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

The Microsoft planner has a very simple and intuitive user interface. The planning of any task becomes easy with the Microsoft planner. The Kanban board is also very easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

The detail project planning is not available in the Microsoft planner software like other very detailed project management software available in the market. If you are looking for detailed one, then planner may not work.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The user friendly interface and ease of defining the tasks and their details becomes easy with the Microsoft planner. The monitoring of tasks helps in identifying the bottlenecks.

 ### 38. Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Wandy Amaury R. | Software Developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

I love the easy use of this software to manage team tasks.
You can create new tasks, assign them to a team member, add due dates and comments quickly.
And the best is the integration with the Microsoft ecosystem; every update in Planner has notifications on Outlook and Teams.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

I wouldn't say I like the task doesn't have child or parent tasks like other similar applications.
You can not assign points to a task to use scrum methodologic.
It's no scrum compatible.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Planner:**

Add child and parents feature.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manage working tasks in a non-scrum team since the project wasn't about software development.
Assign tasks to different teams member inside a medium project about software implementation.
Manage support tickets for internal software users.

 ### 39. Good tool, good price. Although with some opportunities

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rosanna Paberli J. | Business Analyst / Product Owner, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 08, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Creation of boards. Organization of the agenda, notification to resources when a task is assigned to them. Be able to use tagging for each task according to priority.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

I don't like that you can't configure all the fields used in an agile methodology; they are simple kanban. The tool doesn't allow you to create subtasks for a parent task.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Organization of the workflow. Identify bottlenecks, and be able to take action on this. Manage the task backlog.

 ### 40. Microsoft Planner is fine for straight-forward project planning and/or flow

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Planner has an easy-to-use interface and integrates well with Teams. I specifically like the Kanban style approach or layout - which is widely used in technology organizations today.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

The interface could be more modern looking or intriguing, and I definitely didn't have a lot of success trying to re-open a closed project. It wasn't very clear how I could go about doing so.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Microsoft Planner for communications planning for our company intranet and company-wide communications (articles, etc.) It has worked well & it has smoothed out the process (from draft to final document to final release) for our organization.

 ### 41. Switched from Asana to Microsoft Planner

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kris V. | CTO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Planner is great for its integration with the other Microsoft Office products, especially SharePoint. I previously used Asana and had little issue moving to Planner, although it did take some getting used to. It's simple and clean, and has many useful features for organizing tasks within each plan, and the overview tab ("My Tasks") is very useful.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Because of the "group-based" system, attaching files through Planner is a little cumbersome. I would like a way to change the default upload location for any files that are uploaded through Planner, rather than a) letting said files clutter the Documents library or b) having to upload the file through SharePoint then go back through planner to link to it.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

By using Planner, we are able to have both a birds-eye view of everything that needs to be accomplished for each project, while still being able to "zoom in" and see all the necessary details all in one place.

 ### 42. Useful for Inter-Team Communication and Accountability

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

I appreciate the ability to have multiple boards, with a board for each team of which I am a member. This capability is significant for my role, where I work with the systems design team, as well as the systems development and the users. Also, making it specific to a bucket is fantastic!

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

I wish there was an obvious way to make tasks repeating. I have several tasks that I do on a weekly or biweekly basis.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Planner:**

Definitely use it in conjunction with Teams so that everything is found in a single app.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Planner in Microsoft Teams makes an excellent workforce hub in a single app. Putting tasks in each board visible to the entire team helps keep every member aware of the collective progress, and also ensures we know which team member to contact if we run into a particular issue relating to an assigned task.

 ### 43. Clean, simple organizations for all your tasks

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

User friendly and easy tool to help organize all you task by easily tracking and creating deadlines, sharing files, and communicating with team members.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Nothing, this is an excellent tool for the simple planning of small projects. The UI interface takes some getting used to and appears confusing at times.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scheduling projects and tasks and keeping them on time in an easy way. Keeping the team aware and involved in the timeline of the development of tasks and projects.

 ### 44. Simple to use, not very robust

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa L. | Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Simple and intuitive. Easy to see outstanding To Do items. The board of outstanding tasks is very easy to view and comprehend.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Tasks don't seem to contain dependencies or will move automatically. I'd like to see a more robust feature set.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Using Planner through Teams channels has been a great help while being remote over the last 14 months. I'm able to keep stakeholders reminded of upcoming deadlines from directly within the channel. I do like being able to have a planning tab as part of the Teams channel.

 ### 45. The best planer tool to plan all your work and make a schedule with the team.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 06, 2021

**What do you like best about Microsoft Planner?**

Categorizing features is so helpful. Easy to attach files and documents. Easy to use interface. Allow me to collaborate with other users during the teamwork. Also beneficial in managing tasks and projects. You can also track your own progress.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Planner?**

Comment word limit is sometimes painful during teamwork. During the conversation, there is no option to send a file to a Pacific user. I also face some issues with research tools.

**What problems is Microsoft Planner solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's so efficient for teamwork. Plan and manage tasks and projects are so easy with Microsoft planer. It's easy to use and has an excellent graphic display.
