The ease of use is a plus for newcomers to 3D modeling, but it can eventually turn out to be a constraint for projects that are meant for professional quality. SketchUp has the ability to rapidly transform the initial design concepts into precise, correlative 3D images, thus eliminating the need for proficiency in CAD or a complex process. Being very user-friendly, I am able to iterate fast, have several options and spot problems early in the design timeline. There really is not much to dislike. GeoHECHMS is our primary modeling program when analyzing watersheds. Typically, we utilize the program to delineate subbasins and gather hydrological data that is necessary to implement into our hydraulic modeling, such as the results hydrographs the program gives us. We also use the program to run our dam breach analysis for dams that breach at level pool. Due to my lack of experience it is difficult to state what I dislike, but I would recommend a 'Helpful Tips' area that can be toggled on and off. It took me a long time to find out how to snap to objects, as I was unaware that many of the keyboard shortcuts are the same as in CAD. A beginner-friendly tips section within the program that can be easily turned off would enhance the learning experience. Although online videos from CivilGeo are helpful, nobody wants to watch a full video just to learn basic keyboard shortcuts. These basics could be better addressed through built-in tips. GeoSTORM allows me to determine the time of concentration quickly. I have been using GeoSTORM to evaluate the drainage area and run off coming towards a project site and determine if the run off will overtop a newly constructed dirt road that does not appear on the DEM surface files. We have a large team over here and with ARES we have good collaborative features like Commenting on the drawing, picture note and Version history. Which really helped us to cut down our overall project completion time.
