  ### 1. Suite in the sweet spot

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

Monetate is a solid suite of products that can enable three groups of end-users to help their consumers:
1) Those who feel encumbered by their eCommerce platform and need instant flexibility.  Monetate's ability to insert and edit content on the fly and in scheduled campaigns essentially inserts an CMS layer on top of any platform providing agility and timely execution.

2) A/B testing from starters to advanced users.  OOTB the Monetate platform provides the ability to execute A/B/n split campaigns, instantly gather results and make changes immediately when results are found.  Because "actions" can be performed at any level from HTML to Javascript to CSS the ability to manipulate the display layer and test various user interactions is only limited by the imagination of the campaign creator.

3) Merchandising and dynamic content in email on-open are additionally bolstered by other areas of the suite.

All 3 targets and all parts of the suite contain the same interface and concept and most can share data.  The result is a product that feels professional, agile and powerful rather than some type of faux-suite where parts are bolted on from acquisitions.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The toolset is so powerful by tapping into the depths of code.  Although ActionBuilder lets a novice user tap into any area of the display layer it still is limited by the ability of the user to understand CSS tags to some extent.  Support after hours can also be limiting but it's my understanding this is being improved.

**Recommendations to others considering Monetate:**

Comparing this against Optimizely or others consider the depth of knowledge of code of your staff.  Additionally, if you deploy, consider a plan for a naming convention, tagging structure and dating methodology for campaigns.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Bringing agility to a platform that is antiquated and adding A/B testing on-the-fly has been invaluable.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

The dedicated account teams, that learn our business and provide meaningful and thoughtful advice based on their experience with our business and knowledge gained across their partners.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

When we launched--two years ago--the company and technology was clearly optimized for retail clients, with media clients seemingly an afterthought.  That problem is significantly reduced today, but not altogether gone.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**


Optimizing site experience to capture leads.  Let me give an example.

Our website, investorplace.com, serves dual purposes: 1) as a driver of advertising revenue to third parties; and 2) to acquire leads used internally within the company to sell subscription newsletters.  We’ve dabbled historically with using lightboxes to capture those leads, as they’re far-and-away the best means of collecting leads from visitors.

Nevertheless, although they’re an important mechanism for collecting leads from our readers, we always throttled their use.  We frequently heard complains about them from our readers, and, ultimately, we were worried about adversely impacting visits and pageviews.

Until a series of a/b tests using Monetate technology that provided beyond a shadow of a statistical doubt, that the lightbox campaigns had no negative impact on our site’s audience.  No matter how we tested them, we were unable to prove any statistical difference in pageviews, bounce rate, or time spent on page.

Armed with the confidence these experiments yielded, we have deployed lightboxes widely through our site, to no negative impact in terms of audience performance.  The impact, however, has been massive in terms of leads capture (up 3-4x)  and on our organization’s sales of subscription products.
Without significant a/b split testing, we would never had had the confidence to do that.  It truly changed our business.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

Monetate makes website testing incredibly smooth and seamless. While we initially used Monetate to perform A/B and multivariate tests on our websites, we've found that now we use it to make quick code fixes until our development team can get to them. Monetate's account managers and support staff go the extra mile and are willing to help in any way possible. 

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The flicker or load time that it takes for campaigns to appear can be a bit frustrating, but can be missed in the blink of an eye. Additional demographic targeting would be a nice to have, but doesn't hold us back from using Monetate.

**Recommendations to others considering Monetate:**

If you don't already have a testing an optimization tool, don't hesitate to work with Monetate. If you do, Monetate's list of features and support leaves little to be desired so it would be worth benchmarking and seeing if the learning curve and cost of implementation will be of value to your company. 

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Monetate to improve eCommerce site performance in terms of conversion for new and existing customers and use Monetate's segmentation to do this effectively. Also, Monetate helps us make quick development fixes on the fly during busy times when we have larger projects holding up a production push.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

User interface is very easy to learn and setting up campaigns is quick and easy. Their account services team has been outstanding. They are very responsive, quick to help and full of good ideas.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Most of these things are minor and in no way take away from how happy I am as a customer: I can push a custom GA event for a user in a Monetate campaign, I would prefer to have more control over the name of that event. I also create quite a few campaign-specific Actions, and I would like to be able to archive Actions so they are more hidden from view. In the same way, I think some kind of folder structure for campaigns would make organization easier.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Website A/B testing. We are interested in optimizing the layout of our website pages and Monetate is helping with this. Additionally, I can now use Monetate to promote specific offers or products to specific target visitors. By setting each Monetate campaign up as a test, I can measure the incremental value that the tool provides.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

I have been using monetate for over 3 years now. The tool is extremely easy to use. We have been executing extensive A/B test campaigns on the site using this tool which have directly increased conversion and revenue. The request time for new campaigns is very short. Usually campaigns are live within two weeks from when they are submitted to our account managers. 

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

I wish you could preview multiple campaigns at once. To make sure they work well together.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sometimes we use monetate as a cms. Fixing issues that our in house developer does not have time to get to.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

In addition to the intended testing/reporting that Monetate was built for, it also serves as a highly flexible and efficient content management system, allowing us to make changes on the fly to respond to new initiatives from management for targeting various SOA (paid, email, etc).  Support is excellent and efficient.  We've been able to integrate JS/CSS/HTML seamlessly for data coming from other vendors what we want to show/test on our site.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Monetate takes a purely A/B testing approach, and while that's sufficient for many tests, it would be nice to have more MV testing options.

**Recommendations to others considering Monetate:**

Create a very organized system for keeping track of all the changes and results you'll be making to your site.  Don't jump to conclusions on data too quickly.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

User friendly once you get started, sleek design (not that that impacts the functionality :) ) and stable. I enjoy that for the most part, the only hindrance is the users knowledge of the power of Monetate.

The initial interface (after logging in) can be overwhelming if your at a company that uses Monetate a lot. How about a thumbnail view with sleek graphics instead of the long list w/pagination?

**Recommendations to others considering Monetate:**

Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS is highly recommended. The "All in One" HTML/CSS/JS feature is one of my favorites, as you can target div ID's & Classes with ease and inject content into the source

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Special/Promotions across the site on a 50/50 testing cycle. We have also utilized it to display content based on temperature, zip code and previously purchased items.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

We starting using Monetate for A/B testing, but quickly found ourselves using it for targeted content management. The ability to segment customers and have dynamic triggers based on user actions has proven very beneficial. Being able to drop content anywhere you like on your page or suppress something without having to wait weeks for our CMS Vendor to work this through their queue has cut implementation times down to a fraction of what they used to be.  

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

I really wish the reporting was real time.  Knowing that you need a large enough test group to call a campaign a success is obvious and I don't mind waiting a few weeks to see the results.  But, sometimes you can see pretty quick that you created a dog and are hurting yourself more than helping.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We redesigned our shopping bag using Monetate to take out redundancy and clean up the flow. This would have taken weeks with our CMS provider to design, test and implement.  With Monetate we where able to complete this in only a few days.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

Monetate allows the user to focus on what is important in regards to testing optimization - which is continuous testing of everything often.  The platform provides a clear and easily understandable view of campaign performance  - this enables the user to feel confident with the statistical significance associated with the campaign data.  The user can spend more time finding testing opportunities, and less time in the abyss of collection and questioning of data.  Additionally, the support provided by Monetate is top-notch! 

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

It would be great if a user could create multiple actions at once in the action builder interface - as opposed to creating each action individually (and then combining the multiple actions in campaign builder).

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monetate plays a key role in optimizing the online user experience - which in turn generates incremental revenue for the company.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

The best function is the action builder tool in the monetate platform which allows for really infinite ways to create customized content around a site.   The power of being able to AB test different versions of elements on your site apples to apples is a huge advantage.   

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The biggest improvement that could be had is real time metrics on current active campaigns, or even hourly updated ones.  Waiting for a day to see results can sometimes be a hindrance if your content will be varying on a short term basis.

I am always using monetate to serve dynamic content to customers on a daily basis, whether it be AB Testing, special promotions or implementing new content on a short term.  Our site has seen huge improvements in engagement since the implementation of monetate.

Monetate empowers merchandisers to do their job and not work within the confines of IT developers.  If you can imagine it, you can probably build it.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Unfortunately, you are arming business people with conversion rate bazookas.  They will no doubt run poor tests with diluted data and take action on it.

Stop considering, start negotiating!

We are finally able to merchandise our site.  IT "empowered" us with 12 or so fixed banner slots.  With Monetate, we can image, test and deploy faster than ever.

I love that I can change the user experience depending upon how they enter the site. This allows us to test the incrementality of channel promotions, plus optimize each by channel.

I dislike support. They are only reachable by email.

We originally began our search for a site search and recommendation solution. Monetate is able to solve our merchandising constraints , all the while allowing us to test merchandising strategies for effectiveness. We also use Monetate to offset our promo expense by offering a tailored promo by channel rather than to every visitor. Ultimately, we use Monetate for merchandising, personalization, site testing and platform augmentation.

The main benefit of Monetate is that it is easy to use. No coding experience is required, although having some can be really beneficial. The targeting and personalization capabilities are really powerful. 

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

There is a flicker effect on the site when Monetate loads. This is the main knock on Monetate, but it's a small one.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it as an A/B testing tool and have uncovered what our customer really wants versus what our intuition tells us.

Monetate's ability to "takeover" basically any aspect of our website. I also like that the UI gives me the ability to do some things myself.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

The ease of use of Monetate is fantastic. I can start from scratch and have a campaign live within minutes. This gives us the ability to be agile and responsive to our customers in a way that we never could before. 

The ability to dig in and find which customer segments are reacting well (or not so well) to a campaign is invaluable. To then be able to react to those segments has created a lot of value for us.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

I do wish I had more realtime analytics for segmentation rather than creating reports. I would like to be able to have an interface that reacts to what I want. Currently, I select a campaign, select the KPI's and select the customer segment, then execute the report. Although this gives me great information, having a more analytical driven interface would be amazing.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to differentiate our customers in ways that many didn't know existed. I am driving home the point that not every customer is the same, and Monetate's testing and personalization abilities help me do that. I believe that the biggest benefit is to our customers. They are the ones who will reap the benefit of a better, more personalized experience.

The platform is very easy to use. With drag and drop functionality assets can be created on the spot, plus it eliminates the need for creative and IT resources as long as you have pre-built customized actions. The support team and account managers are awesome.

The flicker before campaigns are displayed.

Mobile user experience, website banners enabled on demand, scheduling promotions, abandoned cart, targeting by device and source.
Campaigns performance improved, ECR for mobile doubled in the first month after enabling.

I love how easy it is to use and all the different things it is able to test, target and personalize content for our customers.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The reporting capabilities have been a challenge.  It's great to be able to say if a campaign is successful or not, but to be able to easily go beneath the surface to find indicators of why the campaign performed well or not is really where the heart of being able to use the data to make good decisions live.  This is being worked on by Monetate currently, but has been a pain point for us.

It's definitely worth it if you want to test, target or personalize content displayed for your customers.

Determining if doing certain things with our content is beneficial for us, as well as communicating info. to the customer in ways are site currently is unable to do so in any other way.

I love how good the customer service is. Answers are always provided in a very fast manner. Also, Monetate is such a versatile tool and can be used across multiple teams in our company.

Some of the tracking sources could be easier to view and understand.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

Monetate is very simple to use. I have little coding experience, but have no problem using all of the tools that Monetate has to offer.



**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

There is slight flicker on our sites while Monetate is loading, but it is very small and hardly noticeable.

We are able to differentiate customers and how they react across our different branded sites

The ability to change and update content on the fly.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The momentary flicker when using Monetate to A/B test.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Monetate is a good way to geo-target by location when content is relevant to only a specific location. It also helps A/B test so we can understand what customers want to see and where they want to see it (if at all).

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

The ability to inject html, images, and scripts into a page on the fly and have that be "A/B" tested for effectiveness. I can pause and edit these additions with ease.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Though powerful, I feel the action builder interface is a little invasive and it could be streamlined quite a bit more.

**Recommendations to others considering Monetate:**

At least TRY it... if you think you don't need it... look again. The platform has amazing ROI and the simplicity of the implementation is top notch.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use monetate to serve up all of our site banners and special promotional banners. The ability to time delay, pause, and turn on/off a campaign is truly a wonderful feature.

**What do you like best about Monetate?**

The account management team...they are not happy unless we are happy as clients! They are continually going above and beyond to help us to find solutions to the most tricky of tests. If they can't think of a solution offhand they will certainly involve the right people on their end to find a solution. Additionally, they are always lending insight and knowledge that helps us to create, manage, and refine our testing strategy.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Not a whole lot. Sometimes their development queue can get a bit lengthy, but they recognize and are always trying to find ways to streamline their operations.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Improving Ecommerce site performance. Improved shopping cart conversion rates, uncovered user hang ups, and improved overall site performance.

Monetate's Merchandiser module provides a broad range of features that enable content managers to target content for different customer segments.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

Having to use an XML file for product feed updates feels clunky compared to the rest of the Monetate experience.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to give our client the ability to make content updates to their site without having to push content directly through the CMS, relying on Monetate directly.

The freedom to create new placements on site and push campaigns live real time.

**What do you dislike about Monetate?**

The reporting is very limited in terms of some key metrics in the industry such as impression, clicks and CTR. It's also hard to get a conclusion for a test that has ended.

**What problems is Monetate solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We utilize the tool for both AB tests and also for promotional campaigns.
