Spanning Backup has not seen any improvements or relevant new features in the last three years. If you want to search for a backup email or want to export data the user interface is a total disaster. You really need a lot of time if you use the search functionality because it is incredibly slow. The backup of the data itself works, but a complete export of the data is factually not possible. It was extremely easy to setup - backups were running within 10 minutes. We have only done a restore to validate it works but that process is very simple too. It can be setup so all new users and SharePoint sites are automatically backed up without any administrator interaction. Users are able to initiate their own restores. That you cannot immediately export something. You have to wait for an email, and then go to the Activity section on their site, and even though you just ran it, you have to go the the "past" tab to find that export to download. I like the face that Spanning works directly from within Salesforce. The interface is not its own login, but is authorized as a managed package. The initial backup took over a week, which I found frustrating. However, once it was complete, the ongoing backups were prompt and reliable. Terrible customer service especially since the move to Kaseya ownership. The billing system does not seem to work for a credit card and is amateur (or was in June 2020 when I cancelled the service). As a SAAS company with a product offering that is not expensive, it needs this to be seamless, but it is not. What is worst when it failed that blame the customer rather than resolving the issue properly. We got pushed to an off-shore customer service team who were unresponsive and poor at resolving the issue. When we got frustrated and cancelled the service, they refused to provide any refund and put us to a debt collection firm. I love how easy it is to set up to start backing up my O365 data for my organization. I have been using Spanning backup for more than three years. On more than a few occasions I was able to quickly restore missing or deleted emails with a few clicks. The web admin dashboard is quite easy to use.
