I like how customizable Qualtrics is. It is very easy to make surveys with a lot of specific or proprietary needs. The analytics dashboard provides a lot of information about the survey responses. Qualtrics has a user-friendly interface. The training videos are high quality and they have live chat support in addition to a community forum when you need extra help. Qualtrics XM helps you build respondent-centered surveys through their Expert Review feature and is helpful in giving you tips on how to improve your survey. The tool is very flexible, someone familiar with the program is able to use the program for a number of purposes - surveys, longitudinal studies, 360 degree feedback, registration, calendaring, and tracking to name a few uses. One thing that my institution does not like is the difficulty of collaborating surveys. Only the creator can collaborate a survey. This is problematic when one user programs the survey but someone else has to maintain, administer, and analyze it. This second person may want to add users to help them, but has to ask the creator to collaborate to these other users. We have also had issues with the program saving. Pop-up windows time out and don't save progress but the user doesn't find out about this until they navigate away from the pop-up. Also we have created advanced reports that will randomly forget what data source the widget is supposed to pull from. We use these reports so that we have a professional looking, complete snapshot - when widgets are missing it defeats the purpose. At times it can be frustrating to have to use the interface to apply logic. Qualtrics helps me to easily create eye-catching surveys and share and distribute the data across departments easily to all stakeholders. I love the ability to customize to almost every level and to brand and beautify the surveys. Also, the Dashboard feature is great! It allows you to share insights at a glance and with customized views to each person who views it is getting exactly the information they need and nothing more. The best thing about Qualtrics is the requirements it fulfills. It clear aims to tackle the needs of those doing real research. Features such as A/B test and data connectors proved a real asset in our digital marketing research. It is really easy to develop and run a survey using Qualtrics. It is a great way to collect data of any sort. I use it to get feedback from students in the courses I teach and I use it my research. Sometimes it tends to fail in platforms created for more comfortable methods, precisely on mobile devices, although it maintains an integration for a more versatile execution with more strategic methods, it should be noted that it presents very nefarious nonconformists, knowing that it does not maintain the same functions than the web version, it admits defects in relation to its options of use in a frequent way, which results from an optimal problem that requires immediate solution. I do not like the fact that when I change something in a survey, it generates a new link, and the responses and recorded as new ones and do not include the answers submitted before the changes to the survey. Our company uses some out of the box web service features specifically designed for us and sometimes it takes a while to get ahold of the correct person to answer or solve our issues. It's always taken care of but I wish there was a dedicated contact for specialized problems like the web service or API's. Thankfully, this doesn't happen often. It is easy to learn, and has EXTENSIVE training/documentation (including many videos). The support is knowledgeable and helpful. The platform has all the "bells and whistles" (features/capabilities) needed to conduct complex surveys, with multiple quotas. I'm old and old school, so I miss creating and copying blocks of code/syntax (which I used to use with Ci2/Ci3/WinCati). I felt more confident when I viewed the code as a text file, but I am gaining confidence in Qualtrics over time (it has NEVER been wrong, though I have screwed up a few times).
If you obtain respondent sample from Qualtrics, be sure to include robust checks for bots/fakers/non-qualified respondents (not a problem specific to them, that applies to EVERY sample vendor you use). Don't assume that the review by the Qualtrics QC team will find/remove bad records. Having used a variety of different survey platforms, I think Qualtrics’, especially for the features it offers, has the most intuitive and easy -to-use interface of any of them out there. The core platform is lightweight. To get any of Qualtrics analytic tools, it will basically cost you an arm and a leg. It’s extremely cost prohibitive for those with smaller budgets. For example, our rep kept trying to push us to upgrade our platform to use StatsiQ and TextiQ which would have been really nice, but almost tripled our cost (even after their so called discounts). I really love how I can make multiple surveys and save survey blocks (e.g demographics questions I ask in all my surveys) to import them to other surveys later. I also use the embedded data feature quite a lot such that in order to ensure confidentiality and to organize my output/data. For example, I won't collect name or any other information from people, but I'll add to the end of like their participant number and later I can combine their survey data with their other study data! I also randomize questions and attribute values such as "1" and "0" so I also automatically get the accuracy of the answers. So if I have fairly straightforward tasks, qualtrics makes it really easy to create multiple versions of it, store accuracy information and also add embedded data to assign values that I don't get from people who are taking the survey. I also like the ease of use and the looks of the site, all the different question type options and easy modifications to the texts or answer choices. I wouldn't say this is a dislike but it would be nice if it could fully randomize the questions, then "remember" what the order was and ask questions/calculate accuracy based on that. However you need some level of coding/looping in order to do this and for simpler tasks qualtrics works perfectly. I also wish that I could modify the image display a little better or was allowed to edit the pictures in my graphics library. To optimize the look/layout for images I constantly have to upload adjusted versions, save and preview, which can be time consuming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
How simple to use and intuitive the platform is. Building, modifying, launching, and analyzing surveys is really easy to do with the available tools, and improvements to these are always being made. I have a hard time using the reports function on the platform to give me what I need - i usually just download the survey results data to a .csv file and do my analysis in Excel. This works, but takes time and I feel like the platform does this for me, so I'm just duplicating efforts.
