Kaseya, ever since Kaseya acquired Unitrends the support platform seems to have changed to offshore support. They used to offer fast helpful support over the phone with a quick 1 minute verification, and now there is twenty-to-thirty minutes of verifying whether our account has paid for support, then finally speaking to a person whos english is not their first, or even second language. We use Unitrends with our current VMWare implementation. It integrates well to back up the entire hypervisors. I like using Unitrends Backup and Recovery as it offers a user-friendly interface. The deduplication feature is really handy for saving storage space. I appreciate the backup copy to the cloud as it plays a huge role in ensuring business continuity. The instant recovery feature is very valuable because it allows us to launch the servers at any point in time in the past, which is crucial for our operations. Overall, I find the system reliable. We've been running Unitrends for about 13 years and it saved us several times. We were given a good price for the full product with support which makes it worth it. Unitrends doesn't fully support Proxmox, which is essential for us going forward. We are looking to either change the backup solution or go with another virtualization solution. We might have to go with Microsoft instead of Proxmox, which is not ideal. Support can be hit or miss, with some engineers being qualified and others refusing to properly do their jobs. I like that Unitrends Backup and Recovery works very consistently with very few problems. I use a virtual Unitrends appliance, and it reliably lets me know when there are updates, so I can keep everything up to date. I find restorations fairly easy to set up, and I appreciate the ability to restore to a separate virtual server rather than overwriting the existing one. It's great that I can set up retention policies across all the backups or have different policies for each server. With the virtual appliance version, I find it frustrating that in a virtual environment, where you can normally move virtual servers from one physical host to another or take snapshots of virtual machines, you are not allowed to do that with the virtual Unitrends appliance, as it will corrupt things. In a VMware environment, the snapshot process is so good and reliable, you can move almost any virtual server at any time. But you cannot do that with the Unitrends virtual appliance virtual server. It would be nice if the system did a better job of notifying before the disk space becomes an issue. Recovering from a system where you run out of space interrupts backups and requires Unitrends support team assistance. This is where you get to select any of the available image based backups you have made and boot it up on the appliance itself (if you have one as we do) or on any hypervisor. Retention is the big issue here. I'm not sure when this changed, but in the past, when the device was full, it would clear out the oldest backups in order to complete a new backup. A few months ago, my device decided to just arbitrarily delete the most recent 2 months of backups in order to create space. I appreciate the instant recovery feature in Unitrends Backup and Recovery, which is really helpful when production is down due to server issues.
