"Employment Hero Makes Onboarding and Recruitment Fast, Simple, and Organised"
What do you like best about Employment Hero?

I really like how simple Employment Hero makes onboarding. Setting up new staff is quick and straightforward, which saves me a lot of time. The recruitment side is also great—it’s easy to create job ads, track applicants, and keep everything organised in one place.

I also love that, once everything is set up, the system syncs smoothly with payroll, so there’s no double-handling of information. The app is another big positive: staff can do about 90% of what they need directly through it without having to log into the website, which makes things much easier for them.

It’s also really easy to create and upload policies, induction content, and other documents. There are still features I haven’t had the chance to use yet, like performance reviews, but that’s only because it’s just me in this role, not because the system is difficult.

I appreciate that Employment Hero is always updating and improving the platform. Support has been great too. At first, I wasn’t a fan of having to submit a ticket for everything, but now that chat support is available, getting help is much quicker. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Employment Hero?

Processing the pay run isn’t as quick as I expected. It works, but it’s slower than I was led to believe. Our award also wasn’t available in the system initially, so it had to be built, which added extra time during the transition.

EH does offer some reporting capabilities, but the available fields are limited and don’t really meet our needs. The ability to create fully customised reports would make a big difference. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Free, Simple Payroll with Excellent Support"
What do you like best about Employment Hero?

It's free (I am using the Free Payroll option), it's simple to set up and use. It connects to HMRC and so keeps us compliant.

The support is excellent - I had to ask for help a couple of times and got prompt and helpful responses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Employment Hero?

The only thing we are missing in the Free Payroll option is to be able to auto-calculate annual leave accrued, as we have lots of part-time staff who can work different hours week to week. To combat this, I have created a simple spreadsheet where we can record each member of staff's weekly hours and the spreadsheet will do the running calculations for us, which works just fine but obviously would be simpler if it could all be handled within Employment Hero.

What do you like best about Employment Hero?

I primarily use Employment Hero to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of employees, including performance and development. It streamlines the process of evaluating employees' performance against OKRs and KPIs. I like creating and managing review periods, the ease of onboarding new employees, and updating employee information. The 1:1 module is challenging because as an admin, it's hard to keep track of the 1:1s created for peers. I also appreciate how intuitive the platform is, even for staff who are not very tech-savvy. It has definitely reduced admin workload and improved visibility across our team. At times, the system can feel a little slow when switching between modules or loading reports. Some features, like custom templates and reporting dashboards, could be more flexible to suit different business needs. What do you like best about Employment Hero?

I really like that Employment Hero is a one-stop shop, making it easy to use and implement. It’s great for staff as they can update leave, tax, and super, submit leave requests, view their details, and change their addresses effortlessly. We can onboard, off-board, and hire staff, plus it's linked with our accounts package for seamless payroll processing. We can use it across multiple countries, and it tracks important metrics like sickness and absence. Additionally, I appreciate having everything in one place, including demographics, reporting, and contract writing. The online accessibility is a big plus too. What do you dislike about Employment Hero?

Yeah. As we used it in its infancy, the performance review section wasn't as fully developed. We had a lot of teething problems. We weren't able to have one template and tweak it, so we had to create multiple templates for multiple individuals, creating a lot of work in that aspect. There were a few problems because it was in its infancy, trying to roll out too much too quickly. It didn't fully do what we wanted, and it didn't cater for all users or requirements. What do you dislike about Employment Hero?

I strongly dislike that I cannot speak on the phone to someone for support. So much time is wasted going back and forth through email with the support desk because the solutions are not always clear and sometimes they miss the point/issue. It's not their fault, it's just difficult to resolve issues through email. We'd be happy to pay for a service where we could speak to someone on the phone to resolve our issues. The turnaround time when going back and forth over email is also an issue, particularly when the matter is urgent. If we could speak with someone we could also ask additional questions that would enable us to gain a better understanding of our system which would reduce the need for support in the future. I cannot emphasise enough how big of an issue this is for us, so much so we're considering moving away from employment hero for this reason only. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Employment Hero?

There is limited flexibility in some features, particularly when formatting performance review questions. We were unable to achieve the layout we wanted and had to compromise in several areas.

The 1:1 engagement check‑ins are also quite confusing and not very intuitive to use.

Telephone support being available only on the most expensive plan is not ideal, especially when timely support is critical.

The implementation phase, particularly the initial setup, is crucial for the ongoing use of the platform, especially for payroll. In our experience, it took around five months to get things set up correctly, which is far from ideal. As a result, we had to continue using our previous payroll system for an extended period, effectively doubling our workload.

While the implementation process initially appeared straightforward, it became increasingly complicated as we progressed. The stages were not well structured or thoughtfully laid out, which added to the complexity and frustration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really like Employment Hero for its ease of use and functionality. It's great how it integrates so well with our Payroll system. It's also easy for employees to find information, complete their onboarding details, and keep their information up to date throughout their employment. I think there needs to be more training on new features and how to implement them. I'd love to start using workflows better, but I don't understand enough about them to use them confidently. It would be great to get sessions on how to use certain functions better. Also, we used to use the recruitment feature, but after the kerfuffle with SEEK, we stopped using it, and now our line managers don't want to move back to Employment Hero. As a small business that doesn’t hire often, the constant emphasis on recruitment features isn’t really necessary for us and can feel a bit intrusive. Another issue is with the Xero integration, when an employee submits a leave request, it syncs correctly to Xero, but if the leave request is cancelled, it doesn’t remove the entry from Xero.
