Permissions are another area that needs better explanation, especially when you’re in setup mode. Also, if you onboard someone in one month and they don’t start until the following month, you still have to pay for them for both months, even though their system access isn’t available until their start date. This wasn’t explained upfront. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** We’re planning to use EH to automate the processes we currently manage manually. I’m also hoping the platform will deliver strong analytics to help us better understand and track what’s happening. Employment has a team of support people based in Australia, we are located in the New Zealand, the support to date is vastly inadequate, the chat bot is useless when asking it a question that is more complex on how to set up an employee, almost every question is sends you in circles, suggest you always state human agent and then you get a person. ### 2. Their Support teams are best in class, with dedicated individuals who look into the issues fully and support you around the system's shortcomings. **What do you dislike about Employment Hero?** Fails to deliver on some pretty fundamental things with leave, rosters, API compliance, terminations and workflow automation. An opaque development system and unresponsive management provide no confidence that the paying consumer is ever actually being attended to. No easy ATS migration from previous system means duplicating the entire database manually. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** providing a wholistic view of employee activity and simplifying the administrative burden in managing the daily tasks of promotions, movements and reports. ### 3. I feel like some of their ideas are good and have potential, but they need to continue with them instead of rushing them and not them moving onto the next thing before it is truly complete or stable. **What do you dislike about Employment Hero?** I feel like a lot of the sections are kind of 60% there - they have a great idea, and start to move with it, but then it falls down in the crucial last 40%. Things seem unfinished, and many of the 'exciting launches' fall short with little to no technical support for the multitude of bugs that plague the system. The implementation support was practically non-existent through their appointed project support team (Lucent) and we are sadly needing to rebuild our system hugely ourselves. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our employees generally are embracing the leave entries section - this seems to be going well. I enjoy the onboarding process, although a big step back in automation from our last HRIS, the candidates generally are favourable about the ease of use in signing contracts and completing paperwork. ### 4. I can understand the reason why as it is a catch all for all time off, and easy to roll out from a technical aspect, but I'd have rather they spent the time working on a functional reporting process). Helpdesk is not helpful. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** It stores the HR data in one central location, but aside from that, the other functionality is not the best. Payroll system is really bad though, we are having weekly issues and the implementation team was not really supportive on Payroll. My team and I are finding it extremly frustrating to be completely honest **What do you dislike about Employment Hero?** Lack of support during implementation for Payroll. There is a LOT of room for improvement on the Payroll site. The team should be better training when transferring data from one system to EH. The annual leave application system is also not flexible enough to let you apply for non-contiguous date ranges. It feels as though features were created solely so that the sales team could say they have the feature, but in reality they don't function in the way that you would expect them to. A prime example is the new "forms" feature which isn't actually a form, it's just another survey feature. Additionally, it appears as though the goal of Employment Hero is to limit the number of potential integrations a business can have in order to entice people to utilise Employment Hero for all aspects but since the features they have are not built for purpose it just means companies are more likely to abandon EH in search of systems that do allow you to find the best in breed programs and integrate them all. The reporting feature is limited in that you can't schedule or share custom reports with anyone else. Nor can you even save the same filters for your own future use. Ironically, the integration between Employment Hero HR and their white-labelled payroll is not as good as the integration between other HR platforms and that same payroll system. In using the system it feels as though the devs (presumably at the order of management) are prioritising creating new features rather than improving existing ones. The workflows feature is extremely limited and often faulty - requiring you to cancel all in process workflows if you want to make an update. If you're wanting to assign a document just to future employees, bad luck, unless you're wanting to create a "team" called "new" and assign that to everyone for the rest of your business' life which is a bonkers workaround that they've been pedaling for years. Employment Hero has a lot of features, that cannot be denied, but unfortunately the vast majority of features operate poorly, and the rest are still not better than the best in the rest of the market. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is better than an excel spreadsheet. ### 8. Being able to create workflows to automate sending probation reviews etc has been really helpful and takes some of the workload away from our HR team. We use EH every day and some of the features are simple to use once you get used to them. Onboarding checklists that create tasks for dept managers have been really helpful. Staff being able to post shoutouts & recognitions for their colleagues has been great for morale. **What do you dislike about Employment Hero?** Implementation was incredibly challenging and the number of issues we experienced was incredibly frustrating. It was very clear that the integrated HR & Payroll platforms were launched to businesses before they had been fully tested and we ended up having to move everything to the HR platform as the integration didn't work. The rota function is terrible. If you have a team of more than 6 people, you'll struggle to view the whole rota and even when you try to print for a better view, it re-formats and becomes impossible to read. The rota function on the payroll platform is better but still not great. Once you've published a shift, it takes7 clicks of the mouse to be able to edit and republish - ridiculously time consuming! If someone is off sick, you have to login and update their sickness every day, it can't just be left open until they return to work. Reporting is incredibly frustrating, managers aren't able to get access to all the reports they need and so administrators end up having to pick up this work for them. While the interface is good and really modern, it does feel quite style over substance. As an HR user, I'd like to have better visibility of ongoing absences etc without having to open reports, everything just seems clunky and much more time consuming than needed. Clearly the platform hasn't been fully tested by HR depts or functioning businesses before being launched. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** Onboarding efficiency has been hugely improved and reduced physical paperwork. ### 9. Initially great. Every HR staff member using the platform has made the same complaint to me. We recently lost the link to the payroll function that we use once a year to up-date award rates. this has increased the manual nature of the platform for us. When we asked for some flexibility that we were willing to pay for, no one from management would even deign to speak with us. Years ago I made the request to be able to change the name and frequency of certifications. We have to combine the two - AL entitled and AL accrued when we look at a payslip, when we approve staff's leave requests. What's worse is the notification we get from EH about a request pending managers approval only displays AL entitled. Apat from that HUGE problem, we get to see our leave balances in weeks - unheard of! what not make it in days, at least for the user's experience. Thirdly, the payslips NEVER display proper notes, ie if some one had an expense deduction - this won't show on the payslip, or an additional payment as a one-off - doesn't display it in payslip. Frustrating! The other most annoying thing - we cant choose a start date for a pay change - it only allows current date or future but not back date ie if a new staff start on 01/05, but the pay is processed on 20th, you can't put their salary figure back to 01/05. **What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?** none of my problems in EH are solved **Official Response from Emma Thean:** > Hi there, thanks for sharing your feedback. We've also encountered several frustrating limitations that prevent us from properly utilising many of the platform’s features. Unable to process 2 timesheets if employee starts a new shift at another site within the hour. Leave accrual not capped if working more than 38 hours per week. Apparently, this can be changed in settings but this should be the norm. Timesheets that have been processed for payment and appear on payslip occasionally show as approved only on timesheet meaning that it hasn't been paid. I wasnt. Found out myself by retrying. Also changes get made but no explanations, for example when onboarding new FTE feature which I have no idea about. Also employee got notification on Unusaul Sign In Activity and HR or Swag support very hard to navigate. I'm finding the platform doesn't do what I want it to do and there is no consultant to speak to. All queries go through online chat which is not personable. I would have paid to have had a customer success consultant help with implementation.
